Ya I hope beta is soon seeing how all the other fps mmo's require me to upgrade to play them smoothly. But really JGE seems better than the games that are currently released so I am really excited to get in the beta and finally get to play a real good twitch-skill based space simulation mmo again. |

Now I have wanted a good sci-fi game with fps and mmo features for a while and that is why I jumped at this one. Though it has some bugs now and again that you come across the main game play is good. I think it has potential as well. Most people say that DFO has good pvp because you can lose all your crap when you die but the fact is I can't tell because the skill system is so screwed up that it makes pvp frustrating because you have to be married to the game to reach a point where you can compete and do at least decent damage and that is unfortunate because there is a big lack of pve for people to enjoy untill they are at a lvl where you can have fun with pvp and go toe to toe with people and have a good time with it. Unless you are cool with macroing. I'm not into playing a game were you need to macro while afk to be competitive. It feels so boring that I would take a slow death rather than grind day and night just to compete. I need a more interesting lvling and rewarding mechanic than that. That is where I think FE does a good job and that is important to a healthy mmo as well. Now pvp is still meaning less to some in FE because you don't lose stuff. I need action not loss to enjoy pvp. Loss keeps you from enjoying pvp because you can not sustain replenishing your gear over and over. It also takes time to collect and refit with gear which is not fun and limits the amount of people that are able and willing to pvp; and is a frustration to the point that makes me reconsider my subscription. DFO is guilty of lack of pvp for this very reason I think among others. So I have been enjoying FE, but it is also interesting even to myself that I have been enjoying FE even though I play on a 6 year old rig with 3gs ddr1, a 6800gt agp card and a athlon 4000+(which is single core) which only manages to play FE at a consistent 9-10 frames per second. I really don't know why I even try but I keep coming back for more despite my obvious need to upgrade; but I still manage to get things done and have fun. I think that says a lot about the fundamental game mechanics or at least it proves I have mental health issues lol. I think they are on to something with FE though it is still not clear to me what their plans are as I'm a very new follower, I think any new content could be very good because the core game play works well. |

This thread is doomed to fail! JGE is going to give us lots pvp in space in a twitched -skill based mmo environment. So lets be a little patient and let them give us a good quality game. I mean I can think of at least 2 mmo's that just are not finished and yet were and are being pushed out the door when the basics still need tweaking. |

I like the guy that is interviewing. He did a fine job of getting info out of Scott and there are plenty of good shots of game play and things in the game. Here is a clickable link: www.tentonhammer.com/node/74260 I think the game is coming along nicely and I can't wait to play! |

General: Fuller: The Customer Is Always Right
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/11/09 10:26:55 AM
What the article says is right. There is a sort of gap that is not often bridged between players and developers and so the only way to get the changes and quality you desire is to become a developer yourself. I am hoping in the future there is more focus testing and serious consideration of suggestions for solutions to problems. Net Devil has said that they are doing focus testing and adjusting instead of assuming that as developers they know it all. Hopefully this kind of attitude spreads because honestly the game developers as a whole have been mostly failing to create anything fun. Hopefully ND's Jumpgate Evolution will break the cycle of fail and more developers will wake up to the fact that there is a better way.

If you are talking about a system like DFO, no thanks, I'm already sick of the politics and lack of pvp. Keep JGE the way it is so I can have a PvP mmo that delivers PvP with twitch-skill based combat finally. Don't confuse who the enemy is, makes for a boring game. Try to go find some pvp and find an enemy city. So you start attacking just to find that they are allied with your ally :( Now what? I guess it's time to roll out to another place and hope there is someone there to fight. Finding PvP is a chore in DFO and I don't have time for that non sense. I want combat and lots of it. What I get in DFO is politics and very little PvP with a lack pve and it sucks. |

I'm hoping that Alganon turns out to be fun. I went to the site with the screenshots and that game looks almost identical to WoW! Alganon is one I have not been following but everyone is talking about Aion which is the same lame point and click let down that wow is except that there is more focus on pvp. When will people learn. I mean you get to the point where you realize that most companies are jumping on the band wagon. So when I look for a new game now I move on when I learn the combat is basically wow style. If I don't need to aim my shots manually and use cover I'm simply not interested any more. |

Do you know what the ND Dev's would do for even 1/2 WoW's players?...

Most mmo's these days don't focus on the combat. More focus is put on getting gear and not allowing for player skill to be all important in battle is the main frustration. Most mmo's have a combat system in place where you have very few options. Either you go for utility or raw power in character customization and that is about it for choices you can make that effect combat outcomes. The rest is random dice rolls and ability rotations. That is not good enough! We need to be handed the reins and be given more control and freedom but at the same time more fun. A good combat system in an mmo needs to be complemented by big battles as well. I think JGE has covered the all important areas that are missing in mmo's today. PVP focus is great and being able to lvl off an enemy player is a very good feature but in a sort of confused faction setting like you have in DFO you see things like blood walls and short conflicts that don't happen too often. So really ND has made the right choice imo with their 3 sided nation system. What I see is a focus on the important issues at the expense of the less important unessential parts such as the merc experience and avatars that can explore planets or stations. Though this is just the beginning and sacrifices need to be made to allow more time on the important core parts, I believe it is a good start, with all the main ingredients that I am looking for in an mmo. The fact that it is sci-fi is a nice bonus as well. Allowing for more control in the faction warfare is neat and nice to have but I really would like to see a game like JGE with more action than politics and less grind hit the market. |

Your just sore because ND made JGE different from JGC. JGC was ND's very first project. They have learned a lot from the other games they made and changed the JG sequel accordingly. Fact is this game has all of what I want in an mmo. All the changes being made are for the best. The changes add more to the playability of the pvp and the rest of the game. Your just choosing to see only the things that are left behind yet what is gained is more valuable to making the game work better in an environment that encourages more pvp. Now one thing it does not do is add the mercenary experience of Eve and DFO but JGE is a pvp game that does not hold you back from the action. I will take action over grinding or sort battles that don't happen too often any day. This game needs to be made to give those of use hungry for action in our mmo's somewhere to call home. I don't see any reason to think this game will fail. In fact the devs have been pretty careful to not skimp on the core features, being careful to test and see what works and they have made a pretty nice finished feel to the interface. I like their development process and praise them for not releasing a product that is not really done yet. No one likes to be suckered by the hype just to find the game falls short of the promised quality. |

Does it have twitch-skill based game play? No. It is just another wow clone and if you play Darkfall you will understand how real aiming is more fun than point and click sticky targeting. JGE will be the king of twitch-skill based mmo's. Aion and wow are good mmo's to start with but the combat is what really matters in an mmo and wow clones fail at fun combat. You will get board of this game as soon as you realize you really don't like the non interactive combat, like I did. Try shooting and arrow in DFO or Oblivion and you will know what I mean. |

The ground game engine needs to be scraped, it is not fun. The space part of the game needs pvp objectives to fight over that give bonuses to the side owning or capturing it. There is no real feature in the game that provides people with an experience worth $15 a month. |

ND has a few mmo's under their belt so they do at least know how to launch a mmo but they have not set a release date so 09/09 is just a guess by the vendors to try to get your pre-order money. ND has stated that they are not releasing even the open beta till the game is as fun as they want it to be. So we can expect a high lvl of polish for JGE and they already have combat nailed down so it's really just a matter of content and the quality of it. I'm hoping they are adding cool things to the husk capture pvp. They already have some sweat looking ships that I can't wait to own. :) |

It simply is not a big part of game play and so it really does not matter too much. There is collision with big targets like cap ships and stations but I don't think they have pvp collision. |

It's just low lvl combat and it's just from an event like e3 or something. The people play testing are really the guys everyone wants to see videos from, but they can't until F&F testing is done. |

Why would you create an mmo with space combat content and then have nothing to do at max lvl accept mine or grind on npcs for loot. You need a pvp objective that gives a reward of some kind! But they give us new houses? What the hell are they thinking? Crafting is great in swg although vanguard crafting is better I think, but crafting is not the most important part of the game. If you don't have fun combat you don't have a good game. SWG could be easily fixed with focus testing and lots of it. Actually they need a new engine for the ground game and then focus test the piss out of it like ND is doing for Jumpgate evolution. |
