Sometimes a game just doesn't "click" with me, so I can understand the OP's issue.

SWTOR never drew me in, even though I played it for more than 2 months. I mostly was playing it to see what happened next, but never with any great enthusiasm. One day I stopped logging in and that was that. Never even reached level-cap.

My experience in TSW is completely different. I love the atmosphere and the game world. Sometimes I just sit in some busy spot and watch people going by. I'm totally immersed in the world.

I also find the world extremely immersive, and a lot of fun.

My experience is the opposite of the OP's.  The more I play, the more I learn about the game and character skills, the more I want to play, see more, and experiment with other builds.  The stories are the best on the market by far.

I also really like the combat.  The funny thing about it is that GW1 is almost universally loved for its combat, and TSW's combat is basically an evolution of GW1's combat.  The single player and group synergies are very compelling to me.

Not planning on quitting anytime soon.

Agreed!

OP - WAR, RIFT even WoW and SWTOR were some of the worst at giving you variety in mobs....it's just the way it is....also it's easy to see that the story, lore, location and atmosphere kind dictate where the mobs are, which makes sense.  I saw alot of different types of mobs in Solomon Island and I look foward to seeing even more in Egypt.

I seriously think some people just WANT to find something wrong with this game...it's almost a "how dare you try to defeat my pop culture MMO's with your not so pop culture game!"....it's kinda amusing.

SWTOR prabably released more content in the first 6 months than TSW will be abe to in 6 months.  You can't really knock SWTOR as it has way more players today. discounting the free week going on now.

SWTOR has better combat, the warzones are better designed, and it has raids. not the best but it has more to keep players than TSW does.

SWTOR story which was their main focus wasn't near as entertaining as this game. Far as updates go no one knows whether they will do a good job at this or not. Neither game has combat to brag about so really a wash there. PvP is pretty much even although it doesn't appear they'll have to revamp it completely like SWTOR is doing far as their "end game" PvP play. Not to mention the game world design of TSW doesn't seem to make it as single player intensive as people appear to be grouping for even single player material. Which is ironic considering SWTOR had more group oriented content.

So really overall the only thing SWTOR has over TSW is raids. I'll take the superior story telling over that.

Keep trying though. You're bound to get somewhere eventually with as much as you try.

Assuming they stick to their plans this game has a lot more up side than SWTOR. Which is something I never would have believed and laughed off if someone said before I tried both games out for myself.

I'll double up on this and say:

- Mob AI in TSW is about 200% better than the Mob AI in SWTOR

- Quests in TSW are by far superior to SWTOR's grindfest with dialogue

- You can count on the fact that TSW will have raids way before the 6 month period.  Funcom is kinda known for and founded the instanced dungeon and don't have a single MMO out that doesnt have Raids....and the raids in AoC are some of the hardest/best Ive done, so that point is pointless.

You can't compare the two games....TSW is in a league of it's own....it's a different MMO...there is no use comparing it to anything...

I'd say it would be pushing it, but I think it would run it.

Do you really believe TSW should have a higher score than 7.5, with bad combat and pvp?

 Depends...

Since many saying this are actually referring to the animations and somehow can't seem to ascertain the difference hard to say.

The animations are bland and lackluster. The combat is fine. Not anything extraordinary but not what others make it out to be either. Pretty much your standard shtick

Will be really nice when this whole bandwagon thing about the combat moves on.

Exactly....SWTOR was a piece of junk right out of the gates.  I played the closed and open beta and never purchased because of that.  To give it an 8.0 and TSW a 7.5 (which I also did closed beta for and ended up pre-purchasing) is crazy....but whatever....I just think that gamespot is losing it's review credibility....used to be my #1 place to go for reviews until the one dude stopped reviewing.

TSW was never touted as the next god in PVP....as a matter of fact, PVP was never really touted at all by Funcom.  They mentioned it, but normally after mentioning everything else...this was something I mentioned before the game released (that Funcom focuses on PVE, and throws in PVP) and it held true.  there were no surprises there.

As for combat, bad combat?   The combat is very similar to GW1 and Rift...kind of a combination....just you can use 2 weapons without swapping, have to think about every skill and passive you use and it can make or break your ease in killing....not sure what is so bad about that?  If anything it's standard, but combat preparation requirements are better than most games.

I'm no longer sure what the patch actually fixed. I had group chat die on me this morning, so chats not fixed yet. Around half the quests I've accepted in Egypt have been bugged. For the first bit, I was really enjoying myself with TSW, but with all the bugs I've seen now, I can't even recommend this to friends it gets so frustrating.

Yeah...there are a few bugged quests in Egypt. Seems some of them were broke with 1.1 I believe and chat isn't fixed either. They really need to get that chat thing worked out pronto.

I concede then...fair review.  Im still in Blue Mountain...im a casual gamer so haven't been to egypt yet.

How much did they give SWTOR again? oh right 8.0

So, a huge wow clone with voice acting, inferior pvp (TSW's pvp isn't that awesome either), and is the most expensive video game ever, gets a better score? Hmm, not sure if i should take reviews seriously

Here you go 72/100 on metacritc, the game is not amazing okay?

Did you bother seeing who gave the lower scores...basement dwelling bloggers...lol...nobody of any real credibility.  The higher scores were given by much more established companies, inlcuding Ten Ton Hammer.

Gamespot is number 2 for gaming websites so not sure how you can say 'Ten Ton Hammer' is more established or has more  credibility.

I wouldn't say all that....they lost their way a few years ago....they had another writer (who did the Vanilla WoW review and was their MMO reviewer) who was the best reviewer i've ever read....he no longer review's and since then their review's have lost a bit of objectiveness.  The scores have also been brought down for all games across the board, which is ok, but why do that if the rest of the reveiwing sites and magazines are not.  That's kind funky

Just because it is 'fixed' doesn't mean it gets a pass.

If a product is on the market for $$$, it deserves to be reviewed as it is.

It doesn't need a pass, but it was a little deceptive for the reviewer to not mention that many of the bugs had been fixed in the latest patch...just sayin

Nice one Gamespot....worst review score ever....let's give the game a 7.5 because of bugs that were fixed in the last patch....

The review is actually pretty good, but why put this review out after the first patch only to complain about bugs that were fixed?

Is there anyway to make a female char that doesn't look like a freak in this game? most of the faces look horrible once you zoom out, like freedy kreuger and such, is there any of them that actually looks decent when zoomed out?

you have about 3 choices for a decent looking female.. I seen my clone many many times. CC overhaul is coming though

Do you know if people who already have an established character will be able to recreate their look once the overhaul is in?

yes Ragnar himself said you will get to recreate your char its going to be like a plastic surgeon thing they are working it into the game sounds interesting but basically like a barber shop thing from other games

Ragnar also mentioned that your first visit for any of the 3 is free

Our Dragon Cabal is active and playing and that's really all that matters.  Im not too worried about numbers....Im pretty sure this game will scare off a number of "pop" mmo fans since it's a bit more difficult and requires a bit of patience and firguring out.

Pretty close to SWTOR, your toon doesn't talk in cuscenes and you have no options in dialog. Are investigation missions with puzzles. You are alone most of the time, are some instances and PvP zones for grouping.

Think that is my issue with all games now days, no immersion. The MMOs I was able to play for years,  just had so much going on I could get lost in them.

I read an article that made me laugh about a TSW review, the guy was on an RP server and role playing a guy who thought he was stuck in an MMO, every time he found a bug he would role play.  Immersive in that way.  I didn't find it to immersive, more like a grind, bugs, and every once in a while something cool.

Here is the link, is funny writing http://kotaku.com/mmo/

sry... but what about you talking?

I'd honestly say that solo, you are gonna find the game a little tough...Imma solo'er I know.  But with a group, you get added incentive and the game is a bit more easy.  The mobs are tough, but I like the challenge.  Im tank specced and now in Blue Mountain not having too much difficulty.  But with a grouping adds more incentive...you can go either way...that's the beauty of the game.  The Instanced dungeons are some of the best Ive been in...they are like raids for other MMO's

Templar bible thumpers and Illuminati Corporatists are scum...join the Dragons...we fight for no-one but ourselves!

you don't have to kite at all just is more efficient and less boring with this build.. I'm also not using melee here I'm using two ranged weapons.. You use two melee and some tanking gear and you can stand toe to toe with stuff if you please

this is true.  I am Hammer/Chaos tank and I just stand there an hit (except for dodging the big attacks).  Careful going Chaos though....not that many ranged attacks....it's a very "in-your-face" magic

long story short - this game isn't balanced, and there are going to be alot of FOTM builds

Define "balance"?

Does "balance" mean that any 14 abilities chosen are equally powerful to any other 14 abilities chosen?  .

why not?

in a game with no levels, shouldnt player ability matter more than the 'right build'?

Yes, and this game does souly depend on a players ability to build the "right build" with the skills offered.  There is much more "thought" involved than quick reaction skill (although you need that too especially in dungeons).   You need to have all the right ingredients to make the perfect dish, but only you can put the work in to finding out what the right ingredients are.

I stopped reading when you claim there are a lot of bugged quests.  I've made it to the 3rd area (Blue Mountains, or is it Blue Ridge?) and I've had a total of 3 quests bug on me, all of which I was able to finish.  Many of the quests that are "bugged" are a result of the increased difficulty with the quests in TSW.  The hand holding is minimal compared to other MMOs that people have gotten use to.  In other words, the problem often lies between the chair and keyboard, not in the game.

3 bugged quests is 3 more than should be acceptable at release.

We are in Egypt and have had 7 bug so far.  One fixed itself after 2 days.  We heard another is fixed too.  4 of them are investigation missions that wasted 2-3 hours of our life before we broke down and checked the forums that the missions are simply bugged.  Generally the investigation missions do not reset properly after another player either fails or succeeds or both (varies) the mission which could be easily fixed by making them reset properly after a certain period of time.  These should have been tested further.  Game shouldn't have released with any bugged quests.  Maybe 1 or 2 acceptable throughout the entire game at release, but having 7 bugged quests ~35% into the game is simply unacceptable.

Here's a short list of bugged quests so far for those doing them:

Something Wicked 4/5 - The ravens being stacked in each position will indicate this quest is bugged.  Clicking ravens in the right order does not cause them to fly away as they should.  Can't complete due to this.

Men in Black 4/4 - Initiating the proper sequence will not cause the device to shutdown.  A single person doing the wrong sequence will cause this to bug till instance resets.  (This may have been fixed in the last patch)

The Black House Tier 3 - Ashes do not spawn if another player completed this quest recently, so the quest cannot be completed.  The respawn timer is over 3 hours.

Taking the Purple Tier 2 - Ambushers do not spawn if someone completed the quest recently.  The respawn timer is over 3 hours.

League of Monster Slayers Tier 3 - The Shadowrunner sometimes won't spawn and even after waiting over an hour.

Scavengers Tier 5 - The infected MOB stands outside the mission area and never becomes targetable.

The Big Terrible Picture Tier 3 - If someone has completed this quest recently the crystals cannot be rotated and thus the quest cannot be completed.

I love that everyone forgets the days of WoW when everything was bugged....when you knew on patch day not to log in because you'd crash a million times anyway.

Wasted 2-3 hours?  Isn't that what you do when you play a video game anyway?

If it's such a bother for you, stop playing.  I myself will enjoy it, bugs and all

Failed attempt, but at least you tried.  I am curious though.   Why give a review 2-3 days into an MMO releasing?  Most have barely broken the surface of this game by that time?

Also, this is definitely a smooth launch compared to other games, ESPECIALLY, considering how many things are different from most MMO's.  Whenever you introduce something new to anything, the percentage for failure raises exponentially.
