This would lead me to believe that the White Lions are indeed the next career choice.

Add to that the fact that order doesn't have a pet class, and if you consider the massive "popularity" of hunters in WoW, it's evident that people like having pets. I don't know much about the white lions but if the lore suggests that they have pets, I think it would be a natural fit.

There is an interesting thread on this over at Warhammer Alliance.. and indeed some unofficial polling suggested that this would indeed be a very popular class, especially with the ladies.  Everyone likes a pet kitty!

(Edit for spelling.)

This was specifically addressed in one podcast recently.. They all blur together so I can't remember which one...

Yes, if you buy a NA copy you can play on NA servers.. even if you are sitting on the bottom of the Caspian Sea...in a little submarine... with wireless...

Vice versa with european copies.  As to free european shipping? no idea.. isn't amazon fairly reasonable?

Lies, all lies!

I just get hyped on WAR sometimes (thanks to Paul enthusiasm mostly), but then I think about it and see what seems to be the new WOW, and that gets me worried.

Also not being able to dive, and no underwater content. And no official forums. And no fishing. (I'm serious).

LOL AT U  , but i promise in a good way.

In one post you are worried WAR will be too WoW-like, and in the same breath you are bummed there is no fishing....  CUZ it is WAR!!!! That is why they are trying to cut down on hobbyist crafts and pointless emotes.. to make the game more WAR immersive...  remember all those lame blokes farming rep in AV while fishing?? bah.. they can stay in their game please.

The official forums point is interesting, I rather liked M. Jacob's reasoning on not having it. (I'LL LINK POST HERE IN A SEC) Especially if you read WoW's official forums... they are SO BAD, I always feel dirty on the inside after I get sucked into them.

I agree with you on underwater content... I hope at some point it is added... that would be a nice addition in their 5-year plan. WoW has pretty good water mechanics... too bad they haven't expanded on this more... one of my favorite all time zones is blackfathom deeps.  Heh maybe they will recycle it and make it a 10-man instance...

Believe me if two of the biggest threads in the AOC forum were direct bashing of WAR then I would have posted this thread there, however by looking at the two forums unbiasedly its easy to see there is much more bashing going on in this forum over AOC, then there is at the AOC forum over WAR. Look through almost any thread on this forum and at some point a fanboy will come out of no where and start spouting about how WAR>AOC in some way or another... Cant you people just enjoy the games for what differences they have instead of just wanting them to be the same or claiming one is Soooo much better then the other that anyone who sais otherwise is a total lunatic.

Well I think this is because AOC is too busy bashing themselves, and frankly.. everyone waiting for WAR is bored out of their minds right now and chomping at the bit to discuss anything new at all.

And if you think it is bad here... post something in that 'other game's' forum... ever watch chum spread out on the ocean?

Im honestly dumbfounded by the ratical fanboyism I see for some of these MMO's coming out recently. I plan on getting both of these games when they're released(Already tried AOC actually and thought it was great). But seriously I come to the WAR forum to see peoples thoughts on WAR! Not on how much the Fanboys hate AOC because its taking some of the subscriber base away! Its pathetic, if you dont like AOC go tell people on the AOC forum were it belongs! Dont degrade the WAR player base with your idiotic need to be rooting for the most l33t game out there..... And get rid of this ridiculous mind set that you can be a fan of only 1 game!

I just don't see how your thread helps this situation. at all.

1. Scolding fanboys just doesn't work. definition of a fanboy is someone who will spew out worship with only partial facts, while 2 fingers are stuck in their ears to any criticism.

2. How about not bringing up WAR vs. AOC is your first post... maybe post some innovative new thread?

3. Why not attack fanboys in general in a pub thread or something... as if it is limited to WAR and AOC. puleeeze.  I have lately decided to start posting alot more just because fanboys are constantly coming in to troll.

The quiet, but  vast majority is pulling for both games... why wouldn't you? no really - WHY...WOULDN'T...YOU?

EDIT: @ganton (and yes this is a general YOU not a personal attack.)

Sorcielle - you yourself said WoW was fun. Although that was right after you said it was "dumbed-down to the most casual denominator".

In the same post you said "just more of the same gimmicks". Which doesn't seem to be true but you don't like them anyway. You said they were "carebear candy".

So, basically you say one thing then say another when it suits your needs to mindlessly bash WoW.

The keyword here is "mindless(ly)".

Sigh..... I love how some of these posts jump on anything I say positive about WoW and turn it arond, -as if by saying something positive it makes my argument weak or incoherent. - and thus my disappointment is due to my own irrationality.

@Coffee - some of your points about how siege works in WAR are outdated or just plain wrong.  What else can I say to that?

My goal with these posts was really not to start a fanboy flame war, but rather to express my persoanl disappointment about duplicate 10/25 dungeons.  I can only repeat that it feels gimmicky to me... If you want to do 25 man content, you should be able to find a 30-man guild and do it. The class roles in a 10-man dungeon ultimately become limited and even more cookie cutter.  At least with 25 people there is a quite a bit of variance to how the encounter can be sculpted.

Yes, I would rather play a MMO that is actually FUN. The "hardcore" people like you have probably forgot what this thing called "fun" is but I will not play a MMO that takes pride in its archaic gameplay that punches you in the nuts at every opportunity.

This is what I meant by getting off topic... You are putting alot of bias on what is fun/not fun from your perspective. I am OK with that, but understand everyone has their own definition. WOW being carebear = fun?? well for some yes, for some no.... but really do you need to attack me personally?

And, no, grouping with 9 other people is NOT soloing. Also,  if you do these raids and never feel like talking to them then its because you're anti-social and that is no fault of WoWs.

Again, why the personal attack -  as if I am this anti-social gamer? I am not or never been.. I am simply stating the mechanics of WoW are currently such that you can do most anything with a selfish solo mindset.. i found PUG dungeon running to be increasingly anti-social.  The way blizzard gives out awards does not discourage this.

Also, I'm not sure what you mean by the "same gimmicks". What gimmicks are they re-releasing?

This is really the meat of my frustration with blizzard currently... you may agree of disagree, i will not bash you for it.

1. Aerial combat.. great idea.. will be strictly in a controlled zone area, unaffected by the greater world... basically a cute mini-game (yeah i am gonna say carebear candy).  Aion is trying to pull this off as a core game mechanic... maybe they will, maybe they won't, but that takes alot more balls.

2. Siege weapon open world PVP zone... 1 new zone with siege weapons... again cool, I loved AV (old school AV) maybe some of the people who are tired of arena idiots will have some fun.... Warhammer is designing their entire server realm around this kind of mechanic.. again if they can pull it off, wow! just sooo much coolness and fun..

3. one new class.. spawned at level 55... sigh... what ever happened to hero classes? (especially when the previous expansion just traded a class to each side...)

4. 10/25 man duplicate dungeons... immersion breaker for me big time.  it makes me feel like i am in a childen's theme park, not an evolving parallel world.

The new combat system in AOC has been bashed as gimmicky button mashing, and who knows how The Chronicles of Spellborn will turn out, but at least both these games are trying to make a more immersive complex combat system.

WoW just  takes a very old system and strings it along ad nauseum. I guess I feel like I have already been there/done that back in EQ.  (yeah re-read your first reply here...) I only get personally annoyed because IMO many of the posters ignorantly salivate over everything blizzard does, clueless to how many of their ideas and plucked from this or that game.

Nothing wrong with small and solo group content, but it is much easier the smaller the groups are.  The more people you add the more mechanics and tools the devs have at their disposal to throw against players, because there is not only room for every class, but room for multiples.  Love it or hate it, that is just the reality of how things in current MMOs can be built.

I like Blizzards attempt to capture many styles of play and offer multiple avenues for people to play.  I may not like all of them, but that isn't what is intended.  Just that there is enough of some things to find enjoyable.  I hope more companies follow suit in their design theories.

I guess the reality is you many of those posting here really do like an MMO dumbed-down to the the most casual common denominator, and that is OK, WoW is the perfect MMO for that - fun, polished, and with no real need to depend on anyone else. With epic 10 man raids - you really can solo this entire game now without any real social interaction.. (yes grouping for 2 hours and not even talking with strangers is solo'ing IMO.)

But this thread has gotten off topic I think... for a company that only releases an expansion every two years, it is sad to see just more of the same gimmics and instances re-introduced. Yes it is nice that more people will see NAXX, but it will never be the same as it was as a 40-man, and it was HARD.  And all raiders do not live in their basement with their mom...

On another point - the lore of the WOW IP has been broken beyond all repair.. so who really cares what they dream up...

Funny how people say Blizzard is stupid or clueless because of this announcement.  I don't know.  A company that has successfully dominated the MMO (if not video gaming) world for the last few years deserve some slack.

It's a good idea.  Everyone gets what they want.  Casuals get access and the hardcore still have their tough instances.  And for the small minority of hardcores that are complaining (and I think most are liking the changes), well, I think Blizzard doesn't mind if they leave.

OMG - It baffles me!!!

In a game where they have made SOOOO MUCH MONEY and ushered in A WHOLE NEW GENERATION OF GAMERS...

You guys are discussing the merits of NOT ONE BUT TWO ITERATIONS OF A RE-HASHED INSTANCE!!!! Give me a break.

NAXX already HAS BEEN in the game.. it ALREADY WAS a 40 man raid - PROBABLY THE COOLEST ONE THEY DESIGNED...  The really hardcore players HAVE ALREADY CLEARED IT...

This is what you are looking forward to?

Imagine if Blizzard included beer and strippers with their expansion pack - real beer, and real strippers.  Haters would still post something like:

*Yawn*, beer.  I've drunken it before, it's nothing new.   And strippers?  I can watch porn on the internet anyway.

No matter what Blizzard do, no matter how good the new expansion pack, there is no pleasing these people.  They are in a perpetual state of self-destructive vicious circle of awaiting new MMORPG releases only to have them vomit into their faces before falling into the gutter of MMORPG street, later to be run over by Horde riding Kodo mounts screaming at the top of the lungs "oh my god this is so much fun, I hear they're including beer and stripper in the next x-pack".

To sum up: people will always whine, especially when theres an opportunity to bitch about WoW.

Let's get one thing straight here.. I really do like strippers, and I mean in real life - real strippers are hot, and serve a valuable and respected spot in my own personal life (your's may vary, as it is my understanding we have damn good strippers here...)

only thing beer leads to? more beer...

It may be easy to discount my one, or a couple of other voices around this topic, but there is a huge population (especially here on MMORPG where people actually have played more than one MMO) of people that are outright DISGUSTED by the re-hash of WOW. The magic is gone from this game.. for me and for many others.. and once its gone, its gone.  I really did enjoy it for a long time, and for that I am happy. I would say I felt even more this way about EQ1, it was even more magical, dangerous, absurd etc... but, alas we all chase the dragon.

In honesty I am waiting for WAR... it is giving me that same feeling in the buildup.  AOC I have been on the fence about for a long time - might be fun, but nothing new for me there either. You may or may not like the inventiveness WAR is bringing to the table, but at least give them some credit for taking a step forward, for delaying a game for polish, for trying to make PVP actually mean something.

@coffee - who knows, maybe I will try it out, though i am doubtful, TBC left such a bad taste in my mouth, and if all is well I will be chasing the dragon in the next great MMO.

I dont have the means to scan the article and i believe we are not meant to do that anyway, but this edition only hit the shelves yesterday.

Shoot him Shoooooooot him!!!

Oh wait he was. just. the. messenger.

Yeah I found that article.. it is just a poor piece of journalism in general.  We all know there will be so little NEW news around WAR until guild/open beta, people are going to pounce on every little thing thrown out there...

I mean what can they really tell us in the next 2 months.. That the White Lion will actually have a 'bear' for a pet?  That one of the mastery paths for KotBS will be an AOE glare reflection off their armor? (with knockback!) That the Blackguard is actually a small dark-elf kitten driving around ina really big spiky suit?

'Abysmal' is such a loaded word... I am sure Fox news is hiring writers..

In games, there hasn't been an original idea since Pong, so I don't see why everyone is ready to throw down over who copied who. If WoW fans want to cry copycats, let them. Warhammer is older, but it's the cornerstone of World Conquering Fantasy-gaming to begin with, so just chill. You want to get start around the beginning, try playing Risk which started in 1957.

Risk was such a sweet game! 5 hours to God domination! Really every RTS is just s copy.    And I am not talking about computer risk... I am talking rolling three 6's right across my enemies continent!

Wait a sec... gotta stretch my legs (does a little dance.)

From my unofficial (and slightly biased) browsing - It does indeed seem that WoW has plateau'd in subscriptions - high water mark being this last christmas rush - WoTLK will staunch its decline some next year, but I think the net effect will still be a slow and sure drop as the market is enhanced with many new generation games. But am I really saying anything new? NAH

I just wish buying/selling stock was as easy as guessing MMO subscription cycles.

BTW counterstrike is an Atari Tank clone.. in case you didn't know.

I don't think anyone really expects Blizzard to add any thing that makes you go WoW(pun intended). Just like Burning crusade it will be another expansion that is more of the same with a few features that are new to get people to play the game.

Most likely the Death knight class will be overpowered it makes sense because they want you to buy the expansion, so having a new over powered class would be a good incentive for a lot of people to buy it.

I would buy the expansion if they done something like added a new way of leveling, or remade all of the old zones like they did dustwallow marsh, or even remake azeroth so flying mounts can be used. It just does not look like they are adding enough to justify a 30 pound price tag especially when they make 1 billion dollars a year in profits off of WoW alone from its subscriptions.

Other, less profitable mmo companies like for instance Turbine release expansion size updates for free every 3 months, I believe CCP does the same every 6 months. If they can do that in 3/6 months why does it take 2 years almost to copy and paste all of the old content and change its colour, and text for quests which is what that preview sounds like.

My earlier flippant post aside.. You nicely summed up exactly how I feel about the Blizzard expansion model.

I was a pretty hardcore WoWer until about 3 months after TBC... at which point I hit the uninstall button and have never looked back.  I have some fond (rose-tinted) memories of those first 20-man strat runs (no idea why.. scholo actually way cooler IMO) up to unlocking AQ and Naxx... TBC was so uninspired... like a movie seqel that is so bad, it actually ruins the original flick for you as well.

Their timing has been exquisette, but never have I seen a game so succesful, give so little back to their players in the PC world.

Yes Coffee, I am a WOW-hater and I am watching you!

I blame it on the community Funcom is attracting. Honestly, in my opinion, never seen such a rabid community on both sides of the fence. It's a big reason i am not picking up the game. Least POTBS, while the gameplay wasnt all there, the beta and launch communities were great.

I completely disagree... The reality is Wow's popularity ushered in 10x the amount of MMORPG gamers then we had 5 years ago.. unfortunately the predominance of these people ARE immature... We can expect to see flame ups like this for every release from here on out I think.

MMORPG's, like it or not, are no longer just for the 'geeky' who know how to tweak, mod, and over-clock their computers.. they have crossed into direct competition with console gamers.  IMO console games really only need 2 buttons to play any game... ON and IWIN.

Immature is a word that gets thrown around alot.. but for some kind of yardstick... subject yourself to the official WOW forums for about 10mins... the answer is pretty self-evident.  In time these people will mature, we may need to nudge them along a bit... and if you think AOC and WAR are going tank with such a fresh supply of gamers in the market... maybe you should re-read your Econ101 textbook.

There were some setbacks with the system and though it was mainly in regards to Witch Elves tripping over their boobs after aging, there was also the issue of Knights of the Blazing Sun going all "Tin Man", and Orcs being unable to differentiate the hues of green as well as also being "Size Queens".

The feature should be re-instituted once they find a more durable brassiere for the Witch Elves, get the Knights of the Blazing Sun all lubed up, and teach the Orcs that color isn't as important as size (this should leave them fighting over only one thing and the game can continue as scheduled).

HAHA !!!! And the reality is... this is probably the post that hits closest to the truth... I can imagine the mythic brainstorming sessions, after they had announced orc size and dwarf beard length... no way elf boobies didn't come up over and over!  i can just imagine what paul's next pod-cast would have sounded like.

@volkmar and elvenangel - you guys are both very well informed, and indeed just arguing over semantics - could you please be OK with being both right?

For everyone else who is disappointed by this - when you would've hit 40 and everyone has a mature avatar, would it have really made a difference? Sure seems like a TON of extra work. Instead they are throwing all their time into trophies and siege/keep systems... (give them some credit please!)

to the OP - NOTHING WORSE THEN SOMEONE POSTING A QUESTION THREAD ONLY TO HAVE A COMPLETELY BIASED OPINION FOLLOW IT UP 2 OR 3 POSTS LATER...

I know this has probably been asked, and yes I have looked through countless posts.  But I still can't get a good answer.  I know there are battlefronts for the pairings, greenskins v dwarfs, empire v chaos, elfs v dark elves.  My question is, will you people able to attack anyone in the RvR areas?  or do you have to stick to your pairings.  Can you move around to the different fronts?  Or are you stuck fighting one race?  Flame away, I will be sitting in my pool till the flames die down.

GAH! and now there are POOL FANBOI'S posting here.... this site is indeed going to hell.

The many video blogs that came out of Paris last month are an excellent reference to the state of the game... in one this exact question is asked., and basically as soon as you can get to your first warcamp (lvl 5ish) you can easily transfer to any of the warcamps in your realm..

the quote was like: "even if you start off as a different race, you can meet up with your friends in about an hour.."

yes - the chicken mechanic is to guard against higher tiered enemies ruining lower zones... it only affects RvR areas, not PVE.. so as a friendly you can hang out and power-level your friends or what not..
