I like Star Trek, but I am not a trekkie - no conventions here.

Look at it this way - remember Star Wars Galaxies? It's only Star Wars by name.

If this movie is nothing of the Star Trek canon, or remotely similar, it is simply an IP attached to special effects to make money - nothing more. That's all i'm saying.

Anymore, eye-candy is just as important as the story.  I haven't followed the movie real close, I don't like seeing the whole movie in previews before paying for it; but I don't think they ever said it would be a rendition of the originals. 

Let's face it, they needed a fresh take since the last Trek movies have not done so well.  I liked them all, even though they were just like a long episode.

Probably not, but you never know.  A lot of people liked the transformers movie and didn't like the original cartoons.  Just ante up $12 or whatever ticket prices are in your area.  If nothing else, you can flame it on imdb with all the hard-core trekkies that think it is bastardizing their religion.

Which is what you don't get.  Even if my taxes go up some, I'm willing to pay more to help out those who have nothing.  Get them the medical help they need, which gives them a shot at a better life, getting a job, and start paying taxes on the money they earn.  So everyone paying a little could potentially increase the revenue generated by the government through taxes and eventually cause our taxes to go back to the regular rates or even lower due to the increased number of people filing.

 

Or you can just assume all people who need help are low lifes and aren't worthy of your help because you are above them.

 

I look at the big picture, helping out our society as a whole.  People like you look after themselves.

We could just euthanize the homeless.  That would save money all-around.  They get sick a lot, living outside and whatnot.

Glad to hear it is a good movie.

They need to stop worrying about what the hyper-nerds are going to think of the film, as it follows original story lines.  Those people will never be satisfied.
