Dont know about that Avery it seems severall here have already proven you wrong on the draw distance thing and id just like to add that in my MMORPG i can see clearly for 300km's. Of course EvE is a very different game to AOC [such as having better life prospects and being set in space] but netherless it still counts.

The fact that Nintendo had a lack of 'Hardcore' games is really pretty meaningless to the Nintendo target audience as they are mainly after the more casuall games like the various party games and sport games. Fact of the matter is the Wii is aimed at a very different audience to the 'next gen' consoles so they are hardly competing really.

I went and got a DS for similar reasons as i love RPG games and the touch based games like Bubble Bobble,  the DS has lots of those.

Oh and it gets lots of Final Fantasy games.

So what teh OP is saying is all you need to get a really great machine to play AOC in DirectX 10 is to buy a £400 graphics card and a £2-300 AMD processor. AND a new motherbourd as its probable your current one isant compatable with the processor.

And thats after many of us upgraded there computers for when AOC came out a few weeks ago so they could play the DirectX10 version [which as it turned out didnt materialise afterall].

AOC is such a demanding MMO.

EDIT:- Have to say tho that graph only compared AMD processors no Intell ones were there that i could see?

Oil companies are currently sitting on 68 million acres of leased federal land, and aren't doing a damn thing with it. Truth is, they don't want to add more oil to the market, they don't stand to gain anything from it. They have been holding those jelly beans for so long their hands are sticky, refusing to eat a single one.

Bush is willing to give them whatever they want. Oh wait, Bush = them. It all makes sense now.

You have GOT to kidding!

 No he is NOT kidding!

He may not be kidding, but he is also not correct on this issue.  Why would anyone want to spend billions of dollars speculating on land where there may not even be any oil, instead of drilling where we already know there are known reserves?  Like Anwar.  Oil companies might as well just flush their profits down the toilet.  Also the idea that oil companies don't want to drill more oil and sell it on the market is silly.  Do gaming companies not want to make new games?  Do automotive companies not want to build new cars?  It is the life blood of their cash flow.  I suppose the oil companies didn't really want to discover all the oil that's already been found.  Someone must have forced them to do it.

Bad anology there its an apples and oranges comparison as games and cars are a very different type of commodity. A better anology would be those who produce gold. Which would be better seling a billion tons of gold therefore lowering the price of gold, or would it be better only selling like 10 tons gold and getting much more because there is less gold.

Oil is worth a lot more when demand is bigger than the supply.

Not that i disagree with the main thrust of your post, its just i think the idea that oil companies dont want to drill for more oil AND sell it on market [therefore forcing the price of oil down] isant such a silly idea if you consider how the supply and demand part of markets can be used to generate more profit.

meh, I want to agree, but after how horrible FFXII was, and how bad FFXIII sounds like it is going to be along with the rediculously long development time that seems to have produced nothing I am thinking that the FF series is on it's way out as far as being a major series.

You should try the Duel screen ones then.

^ The only Sci-Fi MMORPG that appeals to me at this time.

Tabula Rasa was a pretty big flop in my opinion.  I played through the beta and it was just horribly weak.

HUXLEY is a glorified UT3 full of emptiness until you get in a match.

EVE is cool and all but in my opinion it's overcomplicated controls and very steep learning curve keeps a lot of players away from it - as well I agree if they added planetary missins where your avatar can get out of the ship to conduct business, get into some fights etc it would be a much bigger hit [at least avatar/space station gameplay is coming to EVE in the future a la social hubs, not missions.]

Stargate Worlds.... What can I say, I loved the Stargate movie, a can't stand the show and have no idea how such a poorly written, produced and acted series can stay around so long and be so popular while something like FIREFLY gets snuffed out by the a$$holes who run FOX.  The game is almost as uninteresting to me as the television shows.

Jumpgate Evolution looks very boring as well...

Earthrise is the only thing on the horizon atm that gives me any hope for a good Sci Fi MMORPG.  BEYOND that horizon however, I'm hoping to see an incredible BioWare Sci-Fi epic MMORPG, possibly STAR WARS.

Yea what the devs say is that what is currently being introduced is just the basic stuff other things will be added later as players request them.

I used the term MMOG intentionally, so SL would fall under this category.  Heck, it's more MMOG than GW. :)

Anyway, I didn't mean to cause people to lash out at others.  I really was curious about others defintion of a sandbox.

Well lets bring things back on topic then

My definition of a sandbox is pretty hard for me to pin down into a sentence or paragraph so i shall start by listing some key features that i would want to see in a sandbox.

- A big gameworld [be it on land or in space] With no artaficial bounderies such as a mountain range you cant pass or a bubbel surrounding the world which you bounce off.

- Must have a good storline and NPC quests which you can completly ignor and not even touch if you wish

- A decent rescource system in tandem with a well designed crafting system that can not only make anything but also make things that are better than named stuff.

- A non centralised regional market [this helps create palyer made crafting/mining communities with sone PvP protectors].

- Non consential PvP anywhere with full loot and permanent item loss due to damage. [bitter pill i know but thats why the next aspect on my list is there].

- Decent noobie areas with invincable and powerfull NPC police [the noobie town is safe as is the surrounding countryside which gradully gets less safe the further out you go] And NPC police patrolls in surrounding areas which are gradully less in number and weaker the further out you go from civilisation.

- Player buildable Bases\Cities with full market and manufacture potential.

- Destructable player cities.

- A PvP system that encourages experimentation [one way is to ahve tons of different item types with variations]

Now those are some aspects which will make a community based game with groups of guilds banding together for muteral benefit in wilderness areas with small PvP groups protecting them for cheap item and mining access. While you also have the anarchists who go around killing randomly making the groupe protection more meaningfull. Then you will have  a game with a society thats palyer made.

And to me thats what a sandox game should be big freeform with anice community and some dev made toys to help you paly in that sandbox.

Despite having paid for the next couple of months, i've decided to quit WoW... i'm just sick of it. It's a disgustingly shit game and it's about time I jumped off the tread mill.

So i've been lookin around for good MMOs to play, and i've come across EVE... it has great graphics which would be complimented nicely by my samsung lcd monitor... HOWEVER, it looks/sounds ridiculously complicated!

So I've basically got 6 questions:

1) Is it worth starting at this point? Dont see why not the whole troll argument that you cant catch up is untrue its just that in EvE it can take a few months [6 i reckon] before you can REALLY compete till then join a corp and work in a group, oh and Focus your skill training for the first 3 months in 1 area like for example cruiser flying in one race only.

2) If there are pvp servers, are they worth going on? (i like to pvp) There is only one server in EvE [intentional] This helps create a rather interesting community where reputation and trust matters as you cant hide ina  different server if you steal from your friends.

3) Are there any expansions? Or do I only have to buy the one game? You only need to buy the game there have been several expansions in the form of several big patches whicha re free to download and are downloaded automatically as part of the patching process.

4) How long will it take me to pick up/understand/play without really thinking EVE At most i would say about 1-2 weeks to learn everything you need if you are in player run Corperation [guild] where they can guide you and answer questions. 4 weeks if you stay solo. of course this is really dependent on the person learning.

5) What kind of game is this? Like, can you get wings of space fighters aboard your mothership to attack other players? Do you gain loot by killing other players? Do you have to start over again if your ship gets blown up? You controll one ship which is also your true Avitar [you are plugged into the ship via implants]. There is no set goal in eve and unlike wow no clear path of progression. What you have is 6,000 true to scale star systems with community groups in corps mainly mining producing items and selling them on the completly player run market with palyer set prices, and there are those who act as pirates trying to steal the goods and blow up the industrialists. If your ship gets blown up the ship and anything on it is FULLY lootable and the ship is destroyed permanently so only fly what you can afford to lose. Which is why it helps to join a Guild as you will ahve a finantial cushion from the corp in free ships and guns for the replacement ship [you will be asked to contribute in some way tho to the corp by for example mining].

6) What are the players like? I'm really not interested in playing an MMO with a bunch of 16 year old tards. As in any MMO there are 16 year old tards but they are in the minoraty and most of the time if your polite on the channels so will everyone else. Also you will find many palyers to be helpfull and at times generouse one thing tho DONT beg too much many palyers in eve belive everyone has to earnt ehre own cash at the begining.

Thank you!

Well im sorry to say its not the game server as there is no problem logging my end or for anyone else i know in EvE.

One possable cause could be your service provider or perhaps a bad link between you and London?

Shrug, if anything put me off from AoC it's that.

And you were suprised the community was like that

It was pretty obvious what the community would be like months ago when certain features were confirmed.

- Wide scale non consential PvP.

- Giving AOC a 'Mature' reputation.

- Boobs. [now covered up]

- Nipples. [now covered up]

- Decapitations.

- Blood spurts. [no blood now at all].

I mean really what else were they expecting with features like that?

yeah I see what you're saying gurugeorge :)

Well good thing is the Classic graphics engine is still considered by many to be a pretty good one so the ships will at least still look nice. Besides you can always re-initiate the premium graphics download at any time.

Yea i did that by mistake myself took me awhile to fix it as i didnt realise the ESC menu had a section where i could re-initiate the download. So what i did in my ignorance was reinstall EvE took me 40 minuites till i could try again [had the patches on a external drive].

Personally i find EvE very safe myself with few agressors if any and perfectly peacefull.

Then again i am a 4 year vet so i know how to avoid trouble if i need to as well as how to intimidate the rowdy Pirate noobs
