Warhammer: mark of chaos is essentially a heavily watered down version of the Total War games, which is a shame because the Warhammer lore should provide for great gameplay of that variety, but so far nobody has done anything extraordinary with the license.

Yea would be nice if they did that Warhammer has a lot of interesting lore to it that could make for some interesting tactical conumbrums such as the chaos wasts and the warp gate. Or the Dwarf Fortresses and the ogre warbands.

There's not 250,000 people, there's 250,000 active accounts, and anyone who has played EVE know many people own 2 or more accounts, and that's not even including the farmers who probably run dozens each.

There's probably more like 50,000-100,000 real people playing EVE online.

CCP are liars A bit strong dont you think? , and they know it, yet they use it to advertise still.

First of all your partly right according to CCP's In-game Finance Dev the current percentage of those 250,000 accounts that are alts runs at about 19%.

Also your post could equally aply to WoW's claim of having 10,000,000. Point is all MMO's are like this its part of the nature of MMO's.

Getting somewhere skillwise takes long and requires patience. EvE is a lot less addictive than most other MMOs around. You can't boost yourself by grinding mobs/raidbosses/dungeons 24/7, and even the things you can achieve take a LOT longer than in any other modern MMO. Or like an online-guide put it unwillingly  "You might want to take a month off after reaching level 3 missions to max out your learning skills"

Plus, the PvP (and combat in general) is deep, complex and - mostly through the high stakes - exciting. But if you're looking for action packed "storm the front"-pvp, EvE does not provide at - all. So if someone's judging PvP by the rate of fast paced action and rewarding "boom headshot" moments, EvE's a perfect F.

I'm not putting any form of PvP or game style over another, I just want to state that everyone complaing about "EvEs bland PvP" is very right, and very wrong. It depends extremely on what one is expecting from videogame combat.

PS Don't make a mistake and underestimate fast paced combat, e.g. in World of Warcraft or any FPS of your choice. Though armies of people say "lol if i played as much as mr nolife there I'd pwn just as much" - untrue. There is such a thing as talent in fast paced videogames, reaction, improvisation, etc., just as there is talent in logic (which probably comes in handy while playing EvE)

Yea i agree its a matter of taste really some will like EvE's slower paced game play with brief spurts of heart pounding action, And some will prefer a faster paced game like Everquest 2 or WoW for example.

In the end as long as everyone is enjoying there chosen MMO i dont think it really matters.

Horizons - tried this briefly, long download time for a game thats so full of performance bugs.

WoW - It was the community and dated graphics that did it for me.

Neocron - The community and the graphics were what did it here too especially the scenery as it was all different shades of brown.

Guildwars - Not a true MMO and the community was disgusting.

Second Life - It would be easier to list what was good about this one [ the fact its easy to uninstall].

So will DX10 magically fix most of the bugs in AOC and add more content in the higher levels then?

And for those folks ill-informed about what CCP does to people who buy ISK from sources outside the official channels?  Take it from one who knows first hand, no bans, no suspensions, they just take the ISK away from you.  They don't even fine you or anything.

Sure it sucks to lose it, but hey, I had it for almost a year before they caught up to me and it served as the seed money to get me started in the game.

How do I know?  Did it last night (08/12/08) and got a ban for a EULA violation.  Seriously.  No reason given.  Just poof! - 2 years worht of playing out the window.  And, with the provisions in the EvE TOS, there's really no recourse.  Contact their support department, and wait the average of 4 MONTHS it takes for them to respond, or just give it up and go elsewhere.  Not exactly good customer support, by US standards - guess the standards are different over where CCP operates.

Again - don't bother the GMs or you chance losing everything you put into EvE.

Thing is that there are 2 things that make me disagree with you.

1. I only have your word for it that your opinions are fairly unbiased and you have played eve for 2 years.

2. I have played EvE from when it was just a few months old and Ive not even gotten to know more than a fraction of its population, so how would you who has played for just 2 years know what percentage of EvE's population has more than 1 account?

I myself feel that about 4/10 of the people I've gotten to know well enough in EvE have more than one account [mainly a hauling alt], tho i did know a industrial corp once with  12 active members in it and only one human running things [ ], now he achieved a lot in EvE. Back on topic tho I've probably not even got to know 1% of EvE's population yet.

Oh and most of those i 'know' are empire industrialists and mission runners.

Those are good points. Yes, Eve can be played on a mac, though I think there is a special client for that? and EQ1, forgot about that.

Naa i belive its the same client. Little warning tho its a new addition [Mac Compatability] so im not sure if there are still any bugs for macs right now.

And if your Vast Personall Experience just means the peopel you have met in Eve then id have to say your opinion isant worth much. Provide statistical data if you want to fight the data CCP has released as thats a lot more solid than your personal opinion.

Actually it does it shows the game is progressing and feeds the Fanboi Hype. Unfortunatly because information about the game rarly comes out most critics take this as possable evidence that the game is either......

Hiding something.

Is going to be delayed again

or

Is a big scam [unlikely].

It wouldnt hurt for some more concrete information to come out of the studio from time to time. And it would silence a lot of the critics.
