By the way, you can transfer chars from pvp to pve servers free of charge. So instead of starting from scratch, why not just xfer? Crom is the busiest pve server but Blackscar is by far the more mature. Hope this saves you some time! Amafi *edit just realised this may apply to EU servers..still, it may help someone. |

I just returned on a 14 day trial and agree with what the OP said about the immaturity of the community. However, as I had chars on different servers, I also tried playing there, and might I say it was a COMPLETELY different game. Amazingly, people were helpful, friendly and talkative. I'm not gonna say what servers I played in case the asshats migrate there, but I must admit that I nearly quit after 5 mins on the first server. Amafi |

DAOC for me was the best MMO I have ever played
Round Table Pub (General) « Dark Age of Camelot 7/08/09 4:17:21 AM
Great post Drnegative, some great points I've not heard for a while. The music in SI was awesome, so relaxing. And as for the classes not being mirrors, well unfortunately that is kind of what we ended up with..(archers?) Mythic did listen to their community, and once they started messing with the class balances, it never stopped. I would like to have seen Mythic stick to their guns and make people play the game the way they made it. Yes, Mythic made some mistakes - ToA imo -not for the content, but for how it affected the community, forcing spawn camps etc, but pre ToA were the best gaming years of my life. As I said, I still play as I think it is still the best MMO out there at the moment, but even though it's prettier it's a shadow of it's former glory. Amafi |

Nope, at least not that I'm aware of anyway. There is 15 day trial period but it's only on a new trial account. Either that or resub for a month.

DAOC for me was the best MMO I have ever played
Round Table Pub (General) « Dark Age of Camelot 7/06/09 2:30:16 PM
Like most people in this thread, I think DAoC was the best MMO ever to have been made. I recently went back to Classic where I have chars on all 3 realms, and you know what? There is still action.. Granted, it's not as heavily populated as it once was, but there are still keep takes, relic raids and RVR going on. I've also noticed the numbers creeping up, probably in anticipation of the new Ywain server.
It's not dead yet!

Bioware to publish new Dark Age ExpansioN!

MMO = community. Without movement to rebuild the community it would be a waste of time. All the pretty eye candy, GUI and 3D upgrades couldn't help a game that is a shell of it's former self. Only thing that can is organized community support and consistant and sustained player population. You just described WAR |

Will this new server Ywain allow old EU accounts to be re-opened?
Or just US? |

I had this issue. Tried everything to fix it - the only thing that got rid of it was by changing my OS back to XP..(was using Vista 64 bit)

Haha, I can see you just dusting your hands saying, 'that's the end of that chapter!' Well, I must admit, sometimes in the early years I found levelling somewhat relaxing. I also agree that the journey is just as important as the destination. It's where I made most of my in-game friends. ALL of the game should all be FUN. You can't expect to have a game that is crappy to play until end-game, just the same as you can't have a game that is crappy at end-game. BUT, who says levelling is the way to go? AFAIK there has been NO MMO's (with the exception of EVE) that has changed the way a character advances. And please remember that this is a forum..It is our duty to whine!

Let's look at a few recent MMos...AOC, Vanguard, WAR, Darkfall, LoTRo, DDO..etc For all their slight differences, they're all the same. Alright, some are doing ok, but they aren't doing great. It's just churning out the same old shit in a different skin. Taking an established title and jumping shamelessly onto the WoW bandwagon with a half-baked clone with crappy code hoping in vain that somehow people will like it. I think we need something different now, the MMO scene is tired. What gets me most is that how can they make a bad game? You have a certain amount of money, you know the capabilities of your programmers, and you should have an original idea. If a husband and wife team can make a half decent game funded with just donations (Mount & Blade). Surely a multi-million $ company can churn out something half decent? Well, Apparently not. I used to be a huge MMO fan, now I simply can't be arsed with them. They're all shite IMO. Amafi

What does Vanguard look like? Heres the Answer
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 6/14/09 8:43:26 AM
It had always been in the back of my mind to try this again. I quit shortly after release as the game was both severely bugged and had terrible lag, but for all it's issues it did seem a decent game - It just wasn't ready to be released. Now it seems the game has matured a bit, and had it not been for the fact that I'm currently downloading LoTRo, I would be downloading this. Good post OP, nice screenies

To all the fans of this game, I hope WAR continues with the full support of Mythic / EA, which no doubt it will - until the bitter end. But I'm seeing Mythic focusing on new material for the game when there is so much broken, and that's never a good sign. Personally, I hope they clean the slate and start with plan B, DaoC 2 hehe |

Hi Melogore, I don't think that people here are necessarily bashing WoW. It is undeniably a massively successful and popular game. It's just that why would we want to see another game which is like it when we can just play WoW. It's obviously for the cash, we all know it. And before anyone starts, we know WoW has taken ideas from other games..That's not the point I'm trying to make. For the past few years we have seen loads of MMO's fall flat on their arse simply because we have seen it all before..We all hope the next one is going to be the one...But it never is. Sometimes I think the MMO genre is on it's way out..I would love to be proved wrong. |

So what have we learned from Warhammer?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 6/03/09 7:17:29 PM
What do we want? Warhammer is a beautiful game with many original features..but by general consensus it is still lacking something..or else the population would not be decreasing. I have not played the game for 2 months and although I had some great times, I did not feel that 'addictive' quality that I have felt in other games. Is it the community that is lacking? Is it the lack of end game content? Is it poorly balanced? Is it too easy? I am only bothering to post this because I have seen what they can do. The best gaming moments of my life have been courtesy of Mythic, but I feel they could have done better with WAR. I think they tried too hard to cater for everyone, but if I put it like the kid in the fairy tale..The Emporer isn't wearing any clothes. It's just not that great. So what DO we want? Maybe if we told the powers that be, they wouldn't think we wanted fucken WOW clones..

Let me tell you something now, and this is from experience. Chars that are OP now will be replaced with other chars who are the new OP class..Which in turn will be replaced with different chars who are OP..Etc etc. When they have been around the block with the chars, the next step is to release NEW chars which are OP. They will claim that this 'balancing' is in response to the players feedback. Their previous MMO DAoC is still doing this lol. Here's some feedback for you Mythic...You stink. |

Petition to Close down Warhammer?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 4/18/09 7:55:33 PM
Yes please, close this pile of shit down. The game was sold to us with lies basically..Which we wanted to believe (or at least I did). Contrary to what that fat fuck Paul Barnett said, we STILL have to collect fucking bat wings and other meaningless, bland, brainless quests (chores more like) to level. Yes we can decide whether to level through RVR or PVE, but they are both shite, bugged, no fun, imbalanced and still a grind. Mark Jacobs and the rest of his crew should feel a thousand shames at this pathetic attempt at this WoW clone. By the way, I resubbed after recent patches thinking maybe it had improved...lol, my bad.
