Now, everyone will cry 'Not an MMO dude'. But that is kind of my point. Look at that book and ask yourself, do I wanna work that hard at a video game?

while I personally enjoy Falcon, most people will answer 'Hell No, I already have a job!"

Thanks for your informative reply. I really don't know where to start answering your criticism, hmm? Maybe you tell me first what you think constitutes the rubbish?

Thanks for the link though, but to point it out, that wiki is only concerned with the tabletop, there is also a RPG, you know that, no? So while the tabletop naturally is only concerned with combat, the RPG is not.

Looking forward to hear from you in more than two sentences.

Well no, lexicanum isn't relative only to the TT game (actualy i've never see anything about the TT game) but also to lore and everything that comes around warhammer 40k universe.

Famous and infamous character, history of the Imperium and other faction and so on.

And for answering your other question, i don't spend time arguing with someone that doesn't know nothing about a particular subject.

Because the task that you suggest in the first post usually are accomplished by servitor (at least in the imperium, other races like orks simply doesn't give a shit about those things).

Who wouldn't be a drooling lobotomized bunch of flesh?

Most of the replies here revolve around combat, PvE or PvP, and that's fine. WAR basically limited itself to combat and for that reason and because the combat was meaningless and unbalanced it failed.

So whatever they do, they need to give ppl alternative gameplay-mechanics when they don't want to fight. Combat is good and everything, but sometimes i just want to chill, do something else while being in my favorite MMO, improve on my char beyond the range of items and armour.

Give me alternatives, give me plenty of meaningful stuff to do and a truly persistent world our actions can shape and modify. Explore the lore beyond just using it as a backdrop for quests.

Ppl still eat, drink, wear clothing, indulge in entertainment. I want dark bars on vast space ships or i want to learn how to make the best neuro-implants there are. Let me distill alcohol and sell it to the latest recruits who want to drown their latest nightmares come true. Let me manufacture battle drugs or soothing drugs, or halucinative drugs. Or better let me be the high-tech cook. Inventing new food surrogates with all sorts of effects. Give me some recipes, make them modular, let me combine them to come up with something new.

The devs need to think of what ppl do in this setting when they don't fight and kill each other. I can play a shooter only for some hours a day, we haven't heard of anyone yet who collapsed from exhaustion because he played too much CS. If a company wants players to stay in their game 24/7, they need to give them more than just combat and combat centric gameplay.

They need to give them more than just a WAR, they need to give them a world.

I suggest you to document a lot better before writing a pile of rubbish like this.

This is a good start http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Main_Page .

the game is in the condition we were told it was in before pre-ordering.

i take a few weeks off between my weeks of beta testing so that i can see the big differences in the game as each new client is able to be tested.

its not a sham, wait for nda to drop if you are tight on cash.

Same here, I havent been on Beta sicne Block C went live, mainly due to work commitments,

Most of the Beta testers knew exactly what they were going to be doing in the Beta, sadly some of the 'younger' players have been brought up on teh WAR type beta which was basically just a free trial of a 'nearly' complete game.

True Beta is nasty adn gritty, and bug ridden, adn incomplete as it comes, because we are testing the systems to see if they work, not because we want to run around griefing other testers for the lulz and doing stupid stuff

The same war beta that started with 6 class (3 for each faction) 2 zone and a place holder for levelling mechanism and a shitload of bug?

Yeah defintely all the feature were enabled from the start.....

Maserati for crhist sake!

Sorry to hear of your loss, OP.

I can understand you having to try Darkfall yourself.

It reminds me of my trip to Iceland, and someone telling me about an Icelandic delicacy called Hákarl.

They warned me that I wouldn't like it, but I said, "Hey, how bad can it be?"

Well, needless to say, it was the nastiest tasting thing I had ever eaten. I guess it is an acquired taste.

I see the "Sandbox" card has been played on you. Don't let it bother you, and chalk it up as a learning experience.

BTW, I came across an interesting article on sandbox play the other day.

The article is well written and informative.

The History and Theory of Sandbox Gameplay   Enjoy!

Good article

Gamestar.de is an excelent webzine around games and they did already hosted a good article about DarkFall in May "Darkall : back to the roots" ..they seem to understand games.

Also 7 pages for DarkFall is IMO more adequate then 2.

LOL why do so many ppl go to odd sites to just to find a good review and post them on this site which gave the game a 6.0 ??? And then go thur all the BS to say that "This" site is a good site and should be trusted because they gave a 7 page review??

O ya if it is not ENGLISH speaking its a non factor, Lol these kids these days.

No if it isn't a positive review its not deserve linking. Lol these kids thses days

One random note.

The "description" (in this case 6 / Acceptable) word we use with each review is probably outdated. As far as our editorial guidelines go, we look at this kind of like school (9 is an A, 7 is a C, etc.).

Thus, to us, 6 is a D. Acceptable is not really the correct descriptor word (we're working on that).

 AFAIK D is a 5

This is why we don't use actual letter grades. Everyone has a different scale!

Where I went to school (and what I told the writer):

10 = A+ / Perfect
9 = A / Amazing
8 = B / really good
7 = C / Average
6 = D / Mediocre
5 = F / Broken, but with redeeming qualities
2-4 = F / Broken, with fewer redeeming qualities
1 = F- / No redeeming qualities, and it doesn't really work.

Darkfall, no matter what you think of it, is not actually broken. I think it's fair to say, it works as intended.

I ask again, based on the comments of the reviewer, how that is even a 6 under your system.

Based on this scoring system, I'd say a 5 is more in-line, or yes, "F"

Same question

 They aren't afraid of "pissing off fans." lol

 If you think that, you haven't seen some of the things they feature, write, or link to. I mean, in this very article he basically says that Vanguard had more polish than Darkfall. If that isn't asking for players to respond strongly, I don't know what is.

  Beau

Because they know a rave review or anything remotely like it would spark even more hate on the forums. I really doubt anyone can seriously give it a 6 / 10 if you aren't a diehard fan.

Look at this:

Final Score
6

Acceptable

Pros
Good concepts
Non-Standard design
Well designed world
Cons
Clunky controls
Huge lack of polish
Little content
Very niche audience
Very poor interface

Consider:

What game could possibly then get a 1, 2 or 3? Or even a four or five?

This is not serious reviewing.

Exactly.

i mean he put in the pros Good concepts and Non-standard design, come on those two points are the most vague pro i have ever read.

And anyway how good concepts can be a pro when in the review it's clear that those concepts failed to be applied into the game?

I think I would have liked to see the review be a bit longer.   This is a sandbox game and to summarize a game with this many features in only 2 pages seems a bit light to me.  The reviewer did not really talk about the metagame at all, which is one of the game's biggest lures to a lot of people, much like EVE.   It's a safe score, not low enough to be a Zitron, or high enough to be a fanboi, but at the end of the day I don't think this site's official reviews really carry much weight with most of the people who visit here.

You know what is funny about the first eurogamer review?

It's the complete opposite of the mmorpg.com review, right score with a completly wrong text to support it.

Personally, i think they just wanted to avoid having to wipe up Tasos tears of rage. See, with the "acceptable" rating, Tasos and Darth get to crow how mmorpg.com deemed the game acceptable ( hardly a glowing recommendation but better than they'll get elsewhere outside of small time rags Tasos pays for reviews ) , and the rest of us get to laugh because the truth is now there for anyone to see.

I told Stradden I'd accept whatever review score they gave. I can live with this one, all things considered.

I thought the same thing but christ it's really pathetic.

I don't know but the reviewers are too afraid to make a review where text and score reflex each other?

Another review of this game where the text doesn't alligne with the score.

If you read the review you imagine a score below 6 instead you find a 6.

I don't know...  Sometimes I think they are really serious people making a good game... other times think they are doing the same as Tasos but without all the noise.

Because we don't have anything. The only good thing about MO is that they are not full of absurdity as Tasos was. But we haven't seen anything solid yet.

On top of that, we don't have the prices yet, 9 hours before the shops open.

I'm having second thoughts about this game.

From what I have gathered they are opening the shop before you can actually buy the game and there you can check the price.

All other concerns aside I dont really see the problem of them not announcing the price, its not like they are going to tell you to write a blank cheque and post it, there will be a price when you buy it, wether its announced now or before you click buy its irrelevant.

You enter into a shop for buying a pair of trouser:

what would happened in the past years:

-you can check size (system req) and price of the trouser before paying it

what it looks that happen now when you enter into the same shop:

-you pick up a random pair of trouser and without knowing the price you pay it and after that the employed tell you the size.

When will the so called hardcore pk'er crowd realise that they're the ones that bitch and moan more than the so called carbears? Almost every post I've read from one of you idiots is whining about the implentation of any rules that might hinder your playstyle of "grief, grief, pk and pk"

You want to pk and grief all day? Fine, but live with the consequences, and if you can't handle any consequesnces for basically playing a sociopathic killer then you're a long, long way from "hardcore".

These games are NOT designed solely with you morons in mind, they're designed for people who want to have a structured world to play in, with pvp and player killing as a PART of it, not the be all and end all. If we wanted that then we'd all play CS and be done with it.

Jesus why do you think there's been a lack of ffa/pvp mmo's on the market for so long? Because they're usually not that succsessful, because they're populated with you "hardcore pk'er" fuckwits. (As an aside I think that anyone who describes themselves as "hardcore" for playing a COMPUTER game is a human joke)

FFA pvp is just a facet of MO, so get over it. If there weren't loads of other things to do in-game then you idiots would have another empty server full of people fighting naked so you didn't lose anything (because you're so "hardcore")

Creeping Jesus, you people are a laughing stock.
