Star Wars: The Old Republic: The Competitive PVP Interview
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 3/15/12 8:51:47 AM
So, this competitive PvP interview doesn't once mention the ridiculous CC in this game? There is very little skill involved in PvP in this game. Most of the time, it's who can faceroll their way to victory with their multiple CC abilities. Resolve, doesn't work 9 times out of 10. Snares and Roots don't even add to resolve. Knockbacks add very very little, and immediately start your Resolve bar decreasing, so you end up with less Resolve than what you started with by the time you even get back to the fight. Asking for a game to have no PvP stat, and little to no CC, would make that game's PvP competitive and fully based on skill. I'm not saying take away PvP armor, because you could still have that as a reward, with more heavily leaning on whatever the HP stat might be in that game, while still relying 100% on skill to get you through a PvP encounter. Facerolling CC does not make a game have competitive PvP. And there's my 2 cents. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: The Curious Changes of Patch 1.1.5
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 2/29/12 12:49:31 PM
Ya, I hear ya. The PvP gear should be equally as easy to obtain as the PvE gear imo, but one side of the game should not provide a distinct advantage over the other. So in that regards, I'm completely happy with not being destroyed in PvP even though I'm a new 50, since I've got the skill to survive and thrive. But I do think that PvP gear should be just as easy to obtain, for the gamers that do not like even doing the PvE side of things at all, they shouldn't be punished with a lot longer gear grind. I want a game that has no real CC to speak of, with maybe only minor stuns and diminishing returns, with no PvP stats on gear, that is purely skill based PvP. I'm hoping TERA is that way, since it involves actually having to time your attacks since you have to sit through their animations, and also to actually dodge and/or block incoming attacks, and to aim your attacks and spells/arrows. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: The Curious Changes of Patch 1.1.5
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 2/29/12 8:34:08 AM
I dinged level 50 on Sat. night, have already done EV and KP both in hardmode and normal mode, have BiS sniper rifle, 3/5 Rakata, Columi in my other slots, full epics, and blow people up in PvP with like 0 expertise. I'm glad PvE gear can compete in PvP, because I'm completely against a PvP stat. In to many games has a PvP stat ruined the PvP, becoming entirely gear-reliant, and not needing any real skill to survive and thrive. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: The Dorkside - An Honest Review
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 2/03/12 9:03:02 AM
Wow, a Coyote write-up that I actually fully agree with, AND enjoyed reading? Didn't think that'd ever happen. I fully agree on every single point listed in this review. The space combat is just awful in TOR. I'd love to see a JtL styled expansion. As for the scale, I think it's a good size, to really express how big the planet is supposed to feel. But, I also feel that speeders need to have their speed about doubled. I paid for a speeder and training at lvl 25 for a SPEEDer that doesn't even double my movement speed? And at 40, I wiped my bank account out and down to like 3k credits for more speeder training and a new speeder, so 265k credits, for a 10% speed upgrade? And at 50, that's like another 400k credits minimum (unless you are a cybertech) for another whole 10% speed upgrade? And the market UI. I LOATHE YOU! But seriously, it's so horrendous, and poorly thought out, and you can't even search by individual slots, let alone stats or anything like that. And the one that bothers me the most, is the RESET button is right below the search. User error, but I can't tell you how many times I've set up all my filters on a search, only to hit the bottom of the Search button, only to have it register as the reset button. The UI in general is pretty piss-poorly done. Can't hide empty slots, can't move bars around. Only things you can move are the chat window, and the group/raid UI location. In a AAA MMO, seems kinda lazy. Fortunately, they are working on adding in UI customization in an upcoming patch, but no ETA on that particular feature. |

The Secret World: What Weapon?
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 12/15/11 8:53:47 AM
This Illuminati will be using a Sniper Rifle for ranged DPS, and either pistols or some form of bladed melee for up close. Not sure whether I'll delve into any magic. Looking forward to trying this game out. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Mirrored Classes
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 11/30/11 8:24:35 AM
I'd rather the classes weren't mirrored completely as far as skills go, but I imagine most people will be playing the classes they choose more for the flavor of the armor, weapons and story. So while one play experience in one class may be "similar" to it's mirror, it really won't be that similar at all. Because once again, you'll have different weapons, armor graphics, and entirely different stories. Yes, I wish there were some differences, and yes, it's completely due to developer laziness, but you just gotta keep on keeping on. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Freedom!
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 11/23/11 8:34:35 AM
Only got to play in the last beta weekend, so what's your take on class balance? It seemed to be that the force users weret he dominant classes, while the rest just kinda had to suffer through. As the guy above asked, what's your take on the fairly limited character creation options, and the removal of the "set all to match chest" option? Is that back in the new build? |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Drop the NDA!
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 11/16/11 8:20:42 AM
Pretty sure they've stated they will not, and will never remove the NDA. It's to protect them from the many failures they've had during the beta process, or so I'm told. I got to test it this past weekend and thoroughly enjoyed my time in TOR. Looking forward to launch, but I wouldn't get your hopes up on the NDA being lifted, ever. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Imperial Agent Progression Trailer
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 11/07/11 8:33:35 AM
Agent was my planeed class from the second I saw it was going to be a class. I'm glad to finally have a progression video for this, and both Operative and Sniper look great. I'm really looking forward to playing an Imperial Sniper, now more than ever. |

Rift: Ashes of History Live Event to Start October 12th
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 10/13/11 9:02:19 AM
There is raiding and PvP for end game as well, not just expert dungeons. For raids, there is Greenscale's Blight, River of Souls, Gilded Prophecy, Drowned Halls, and Haammerknell Fortress. There are lots of armor and weapon skins, albeit not as many as I'd like, but I'm accustomed to the options available in games like CoH and CO. The game has been out for less than a year and already has 3 20man raids, one of which has like maybe 5 guilds in the world that can complete it, and 2 10man raids as well, plus PvP, and you are saying there is no variety? |

Rift: The Best Loyalty Rewards
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 10/04/11 8:58:08 AM
I can't beleive you are all up in arms over some freaking vanity items and some new mounts. Trion is a business, and they are offering rewards to the players who are willing to keep paying to play their game. Players get rewarded for their time and money spent, Trion makes money, and develops new content and keeps the servers stable. Everyone wins, including the snotty kids who complain about others buying their vet rewards early. That's all this is, and shouldn't be looked at past. Trion rewards players for time and money. Trion makes money off this. Trion uses said money to develop new content for the game. Everyone wins. And no, I have not paid extra time for vet rewards, I'm a month to month. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: The End of an Era and Beginning Anew
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 9/28/11 8:44:01 AM
SWG was amazing when it first came out. The game had loads of options and specializations to choose from, to build your Star Wars character into whatever you truly wanted. Then along came the Combuat Upgrade. The CU changed much, but it was still a pretty fun game, just not quite it's former glory. Much later along, came the New Game Experience. Well, the NGE killed the game. It took your loads of character class options, condensed them down to 9 with set progression, and took the ultra-rare jedi that required LONG LONG periods of time to unlock, and made it a class available to everyone. Pre-CU SWG will be missed greatly, the game as it is now, will not be missed by this player. TOR is looking great, only I wish they had player housing, although I'm sure that's something they'll add in later in the game. There is plenty that they can still add in post-launch, just as SWG added in later patches/expansions. |

Champions Online: Noob Time with Ripper X
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 9/22/11 11:03:41 AM
I can spend literally hours on the tailor, or in character creation, coming up with ideas. My costumes can go through numerous iterations, all before I ever even leave the tailor for the first time. The costume pieces available are near limitless for what you can do to combine them. I think my most I've ever spent would probably be 8-10 hours, working on one costume, through multiple sittings. Work for a long time, save, take a break for awhile, load the costume back up, and continue working on it. The customization of your outward appearance is amazing, and wish more games did that, so that you don't start looking like a bum in rags and very slowly work your way up like in most mmorpg's. That said, I would agree with the people talking about how the video was pretty much random and useless as it shows virtually nothing of ingame footage. Even if it were to just skip some like mentioned, and show a brief overview of the entirety of the tutorial, it would have been much better. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Is Fatigue Setting In?
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 9/21/11 9:03:12 AM
Yes, the fatigue is setting in for most players, myself included. I have the CE ordered, and will stay that way no matter the release date, but, I'm getting tired of the wait with mere scraps of info being leaked. The main problem I see is Bioware and EA's handling of their PR and release of info. We're supposedly not far from release, yet we are still not very well informed of the game, beta weekends have been cancelled indefintely, and still no release date listed, with a pushback to 2012 "not off the table". At this point, they need to be prioritizing getting the game released while the hype level is still high. As MMO players, we expect there to be bugs at launch, and that they can get handled pretty quickly once the game is launched, so there is less development time and more fix time. They have a LOT of great looking games coming out this holiday to compete with, so they need to capitalize on the hype level while it's high. |

Champions Online: King of the Hill PvP Launches
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 9/20/11 8:15:34 AM
This game isn't DAoC or WAR. Literally the only 2 games that I can think of that had this option. Go play them if that's what you want. They are simply introducing more flavor, albeit to a very craptastically balanced PvP system, since CC is incredibly broken in CO. To the poster below you, also, "Whaaaaaa! They give us more content, but I complain like a little petulent child!" That's what I got out of your post Zigmund. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: SWTOR's Story Will Change Questing Forever
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 9/15/11 8:14:06 AM
Yet another thing I'm really looking forward to with TOR. I'll be the first to admit that rarely do I bother with the quest text in MMO's, as it's just a bunch of bla, mixed in with go kill this, deliver that, and return. Actually putting a voice with emotions behind the quest will make them feel more important and indepth than what we're used to, so I can't wait to play. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: PAX – The Alderaan Warzone Experience
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 9/13/11 8:40:56 AM
I cannot wait for TOR. The more I read about the PvP, the more I'm looking forward to it. I'm hoping the open world RvR is sort of like DAoC's keep sieges, seeing the planetary fortresses that you take. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: PAX Interview - PVP, Voidstar, and Replayability
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 9/02/11 12:06:36 PM
So, people are angry over having Warzones(scenarios or BG's), Open World PvP, PvP lakes, AND PvP planets with what looks like keep siege gameplay mechanics? Everything I see about PvP in this game gets me more and more excited. And to whoever said that PvE gear will be better than PvP gear in PvP, wow. It was stated that the PvP gear will have some sort of a PvP stat that will give about a 10% boost to damage resistance, healing and damage output for PvP. I normally hate PvP stats on gear, but only having that 10% boost will work fine, as it doesn't completely invalidate a player's experience in PvP if they aren't maxed in PvP gear. The stylized Warzone PvP scenarios sound pretty fun. Having designated PvP lakes will be great, as they will attract players and make finding the open world PvP less of a hassle. And the PvP worlds sound pretty cool, since going by the video of one that has been released, they look like they will be Keep Siege style gameplay, only with Star Wars bases instead of a keep. I don't know what's not to love about what has been released so far. |
