So I just started playing Hellgate and I know it was lacking at launch, but I have a couple questions.

Are these things in the game: Mail, PvP, Auction House

And I'm assuming Flagship Studios failure means no expansion?

Aghh! Sorry.

I posted something here but now it doesn't make any sense so I'm just going to leave. Bye.

In every MMO's forum there are going to be some haters and lovers both on extreme sides of the fence... The haters saying stuff like "The grind is terribl! The graphics are kiddy! OMG A 2D MMO LOL???" and the lovers will be like "MAPLE THTORY IS THE BETHST GAME EVA!!!" no matter what...

But the fact that these lovers exist is reason enough to just let it lie. In my opinion, all MMO's have a bad grind, but in this very thread someone admitted to being level 97, so, it can't be THAT bad if at least someone still enjoys the game after getting to that freakishly high level. As for me, I have like 13 MMO's on my computer because I have attenion span of a tampon.

So anyway, that' my 2 cents. Maple Story is as fun as anything else in its own right. And the grind is a grind like any other grind.

Zu, like all of IGG's games, will be a hit or miss for most people.  As for me, I just started it, but I can tell I won't like it as much as AO.

It's definitely worth a try, as some people will surely love this game. I have some criticisms, such as class determining gender, but beyond that, it's a lot of fun.

And it picks up once you level a little.

I never claimed I wasn't going to ensue hating on you. But at least I don't crudely judge other people's hard work. The game is quite popular in Taiwan (where I currently am studying abroad (so no, I'm not 13, but 21).  I have quite a history with MMO's and video games in general, having owned a computer since I was 4.  If you don't like the game, that's great, but why create an account just to hate? So far you only have a few posts and it looks like you've spent most of your time acting like a little bitch. Be honest. Don't you hate yourself a little sometimes?

The game is awesome, and not buggy at all anymore, and new content is being added every month. Anyway, that's cool that you're closedminded. Not everyone can have a soul. I just hate people like you who go out of the way to shit on someone else's hard work with no respect to how difficult and well thought out it actually was. The game has depth that some paid MMO's lack. To someone, this game was a labor of love. Now, if it genuinely sucks, yes, we'll say "Sorry.. but this game sucks", but since there are at least half a million people in the world who disagree with you, I think we can toss that possibility right out the window, right? You should check out the chinese servers. This game's been around for a little while in Asia now and if you can get past the 2D graphics, which by the way aren't unattractive to anyone I've talked to, there are tons of kinds of pets, mounts, armors, weapons, special items, crafts, amazing PvP etc. There's so much this game has to offer but you just sit there with your 3D fixation and drool over WoW or whatever you're playing these days.

Graphics don't have to be amazing to present good gameplay. That's pretty much Gaming 101 right there.  If you are that obsessed with graphics, you shouldn't really be looking at a 2D game in the first place. But like I said, the graphics in this game are actually great, for what they are, and by far more appealing than WoW, in my opinion.

Not to sound like an idiot but could you tell me what Habo Hotel is... I'll look it up...

Anyway I've played WoW, EQ, EQ2, Asheron's Call, Asheron's Call 2, City of Heroes, Villains, Star Wars Galaxies, and tons more, and I found that I tend to enjoy wandering from game to game, and I expect something new every time. Perhaps that's why I like this game, and enjoyed Maple Story. I hate the anime style, but the gameplay and other aspects of the graphics are appealing and, above all else, refreshing to me. I make no apologies for my tastes. WoW and all those other games are awesome! Anyway, I AM in fact rather poor because I just spent $1000 dollars buying tickets and hotels for traveling to Singapore and Hong Kong (Chinese New Year is coming up, so we just are starting break now), so yes, I do like free MMO's and I also enjoy being able to go from one to the other rather freely without worrying about paying monthly fees. One afternoon I can play Lunia or Maple Story, the next I can play Guild Wars or something like Cabal (which I hope we get in the states).

Is it spelt "drivle"? I think it's "drivel".  Then again, it's probably just a typo and I'm sure I've made a few too ;)

Pretty easy to find... This is the documentation and manual you were looking for. I asked some guys over at IGG and they sent this link to me. It seems complete, but please note, you can also target monsters by "Right Clicking" on them. You don't have to attack them immediately with "Left Click".

Hope this helps.

Also, I'd like to add to your complaint about bosses. Are you aware that if you're in a party with the other people attacking the boss, you will all be guaranteed credit for the kill? And you justified the bosses' difficuly yourself... They do offer amazing rewards, such as rare pets, unique weapons and armor, and items that can sell to other players for tons of money, if you can't use them.

I do agree with the robot thing... Although keep in mind that Robots aren't meant for fighting, but for quick transportation and collecting/crafting.  Robot skills can become much much higher than the character level because the developer's anticipated that fighting would not be a priority for the crafting classes.

Also, the bit about not having any documentation is an issue.

As for bosses, they shouldn't be a problem, but since there are so few people that play the game, they are. Once the game picks up, it's not going to be an issue.

The item mall is dirt cheap... 10 bucks for character slot. That's less than guild wars, and guild wars you have pay 30-40 dollars for each game and expansion. You could go the whole game up to the current level cap (60... will be changed to 90) without buying a thing from the item store, if you wanted.

Dual-classes are mostly useless, but my main uses both Chaos and Wraith magic quite skillfully with no real problem. Some other hybrid classes definitely could be useful (Miner). Still,  the game gives you a ton of premade, functional classes to start out with, so I see no reason for hybridization. It's just for more flexibility.

Kill-stealing sometimes is a problem, but usually when that happens other users have been polite enough to wait around and help you to get the kill again. No need to complain for that, AO users so far are among the most friendly and polite I've seen in the online gaming world.

I recently discussed with one of IGG's representatives about how the patches lack patch notes, and the representative personally gave me a list of recent changes... Mostly fixed bugs (what seemed like hundreds) and translation errors (more fixes to come). Documentation is a possible addition in future patches, as is a "dueling system".  If you've played AO, you're already familiar with the amazing other PvP system available, so I'm excited to see what they do with dueling.

I'll forward some of your concerns to IGG and I hope you can give AO another try when it's a little more developed. It's really a lot of fun.

If you like fun and can take the 2D approach, this game's for you. Honestly, people hating on this game... I just can't understand. I Haven't had this much fun with a free RPG since... ever. And I've tried a ton. It's simple but elaborate, the graphics and music are great, the spell and special move effects have good graphics, and the gameplay has tons to offer a casual gamer.

Seriously, don't be such a hater until you try the game. If you tried it and you don't like it, be constructive and say why you didn't like it. Don't be an idiot and just list things like "if you like swimming with great white sharks while wearing a seal suit, you'll like this game". It just makes you look closed-minded and unclever. I've heard complaints about bugginess in the game, but I just started playing and after about 20 hours logged in I haven't encountered one glitch. Although, the path from last week may have fixed those, so I guess I don't know.

Anyway, if you join the game and go to Angel Lyceum A you'll find a large group of people who wholeheartedly disagree with your asonine opinion. If you really feel that badly about the game, give it a review, and then shut up. Why come back to this forum just to be a hater? I bet you're the same kind of person who spams hate on every youtube video.

Move out of your mom's basement, get a college education, a girlfriend, a job, and some goddamn decency before you spend the rest of your life split between hating online and working the counter at your local Gas N' Go.

This is not really an issue... As long as the game is in an environment that isn't modern, historical, sci fi, or something like that, it'll be classified as fantasy because it wouldn't belong in any other category. I mean, if there's some kind of giant lizard in the game, it's fantasy. If there's large lush valleys and magic users... Fantasy. No one is going to feel betrayed by a game that doesn't regurgitate the same boring old crap.  I pray to God every night for a high quality MMO with unique races and enemies (not really, but you get the point.)  Here's an idea... How about a game that doesn't have any humans?

I'd like to point out that that character model is better than a WoW model.

Anyway, I've never played dungeon runners, but I'd like to... However, it seems the website is down. Does anyone know why? Or when I can download it again?

AC was the very first MMO i ever played, and i still remember it fondly. I'm suprised at how the graphics have held up, but they're certainly showing some age these days.

I think the best thing about AC was the character development. At its time, there was no better character creation, and the fact that you could level up just from doing things like using the "Deception" skill was pretty cool. I played a Chef (not a real class) and a Vagabond. No one except me ever played the vagabond, though, I'm pretty sure I was the only Vagabond above 20 on the whole server.

Anyway the magic system was great, with the components being needed, and the portals were fun. Sometimes I'd hop in a portal just out of curiosity and end up in the direlands. I've often thought about going back to AC, and if you've never played it, then you really should try it for a few months. Know your roots, if nothing else.

Personally I just see nothing to complain about. The art is beautiful, the crafting system is pretty solid, the item mall is dirt cheap (10 bucks for a new character slot is about as high as it goes), the classes are well formed and there exists the possibility of creating a hybrid class (most aren't good), lots of armor and weapons, PD system adds to appearance customization, the pets are great and customizable, the mounts are awesome (and you can fight while on them. Suck that, WoW), the music is fun to listen to, the community is friendly, and the GM's and online support are EXTREMELY helpful. One of the online support people added me to her MSN in case I had any other questions. The GM's regularly hand out rare item, like Double XP cards, during events. The PvP in game is well developed but there aren't enough players so far to take advantage of it, since the game just came out of Beta.

Anyway people need to quit hating this game, it's not half as bad as they say.  Better constructed than WoW? Maybe not, but definitely more FUN than WoW in short bursts.

Yeah, I totally agree. Orcs are everywhere. I really am quite disenchanted with Orcs. They were cool when Warcraft came out but now it's just the same thing over and over again. I definitely agree that games should try to invent their own enemies rather than going to the stockpiles.

The hype level is pretty low, but that's misleading...

What we have here is a free online game that is unique, beautiful, filled with great music, large environments, multiple cities, many monsters, pets, minions, 4 schools of magic, a hybrid class system (that leaves us a little wanting, actually), robot suits, funny translation errors, and an item mall filled with content at a relatively cheap price... A new character slot is about 10 dollars, for instance, and you won't need one of those for a while.

The game also has mobs of monsters that raid the towns, special events hosted by the GMs who hand out prizes normally only available in the item mall, a surprisingly strong crafting system, and the ability to import any image you want for your avatar.

Combat in the game is simple, but still satisfying if you've ever played a similary game. The controls are a bit alternative, but will quickly become familiar. Try to get used to all the shortcuts early on, learn about crafting, gathering, fighting, magic, etc. and you'll have a great time. Since it's free and the download is only 700 megs it's easy to get some friends to play. My brother, dad, and a few of my other friends all joined after I did.

The pets you can get are a great addition to the game and eventually become almost completely necessary. Mounts are relatively easy to attain and nice to look at. There is a large variety of mounts, including pigs, lizards, horses, chickens, cats, wolves, boars, gerbils, and more for mounts. Pets come in the form of elementals that you can buy and raise and evolve.  Other pets can be found as rare drops from certain bosses.

Skirmishes are available, which are PvP (i think, i haven't done one yet), there are guilds too of course.  Lots of fun to be had.

People were very negative toward this game during its beta period but its starting to shape up and skeptics are starting to turn. We see more and more new users every day and there's a large group of people that clearly love the game. It's virtually brand new too, as it just came out of Beta (although MMORPG.com says its still in Beta.

Check out the website and ask around on the forums. The moderators and customer service people are extremely helpful and cooperative. One of them even added me to MSN in case I needed further assistance. I can't recommend this game enough. It's not very buggy anymore, and most complaints I've tossed out about the game have been rebutted.

Give it a try. You should like it if you have a soul.
