What would you choose. Be honest please:

  • a) the skirmishes system you have now
  • b) a whole new end-game zone.

B. If I want to play mini-games, I go play Wii with friends. Skirmishes are nothing more than instances with a pet system added (and yes, I HAVE played them, all save for the two that require the book chapters to unlock).

I've spent a signifcant amount of time in every zone in the game. They have far more replay value for me (everyone is different in this regard) that the diversion system they gave us.

<3

I'm glad someone else shares the opinion with me. Skirmishes are a cheap, instant and repeatable  way to have "fun" in an instanced space. Sure, some people might find that entertaining, but I still think majority of the loyal players (lore-fans) are much more interested in the Middle Earth world graphical representation than the actual gameplay.

I do think Turbine is not trying to please its main playerbase as usual, but rather keep looking to attrack new players. I think that is their initial marketing and design strategy ever since they offered extremly cheap lifetime offer. They strategy is not to maintain the customers, and are not afraid to sacrifice and break promises made at release in order to gain favor in newcommers (for example -> during the beta, they announced LM is as far as they will ever go with the magic).

Turbine as usual is not trying to please its playerbase? Then why would someone who isnt pleased with the way turnbine treats its playerbase pay for an xpac on tuesday only to cancel his account shortly thereafter?

Again, another t.ll post with an attempt to discredit someone without really reading the thread. I am not gonna explain it when and how I cancelled. It's somewhere here already.

So like i said, you dont like turbines treatment of their playerbase so you purchase an xpac and then cancel your account after a couple of days but continue to play skirmishes that you do not enjoy. Its not to hard to see that something doesnt quite add up here.

I for one don't enjoy WoW at all anymore. But this is a load of BS. WoW will not remain number 1 until they shut it down. As all games before it WoW will be toppled eventually. I cannot say if that will happen in a week, a month, or even years but sooner or later it will happen. Thats what happens in life, and especially in gaming.

how do you know it wont just shut down before it gets toppled then?

Yeah right. Blizz will shut down the biggest money maker in MMO's.

Combat speed as well as mount speed has been increased. If someone doesnt like the game for one reason or the other there is nothing Turbine can do to satisfy them.

Most likely and I guess.  Nice and concise. Will return for more when the game launches.

no problem grandad, just glad I could fill your day with something.

You over estimate the value of speculation.

Superman will have to be nerfed in some way. Maybe they could have him lose partial power somehow.

Im unsure how things are now but during CB my thought wasnt the need for more xp but for more quests to get the xp.

If you sign up do you get a new mount or a cool sword?

I'm in the UK. So my provider is Sky. I was on unlimited before but obviously the area isn't as well provided for with internet and stuff.

Got some boxed games at the moment, mainly WoW, WAR and LOTRO anyone recommend which one to go for?

Well i play LOTRO now. Ive played WOW and WAR. Ive heard WAR is on its last legs but its been awhile since ive played and WOW im just super tired of but if your new to it then you might enjoy it as well.

Yeah, the "bandwidth limit" bean counters have been active here in the U.S also. Comcast has a 250gb limit before you're considered an "excessive user". So far, AT&T has no limits at all though. Not sure about Verizon and some of the other smaller ISPs here though.

Yes those in rural areas with no choice seem to pay out the nose here and if memory serves its a satellite link.

Im curious as to your ISP. Ive heard of limited d/loads from   some satellite companies here in the states.

Dragon Age is noway near a dark fantasy. The fact you can kill kids has nothing to do whether its dark or not.

Dark fantasy is a horror setting. Please read a couple of definitions on the internet.

Which I did go and read. Perhaps you wanna update the Wikipedia page on Dark Fantasy, which even puts Lord of the Rings' trilogy into that category.

Your examples are all darker, and I agree with it. It's not because darker games exist that the genre only applies to the darkest of the genre.

I didn't realize mentioning "Dark Fantasy" would create such an argument, but it's nonetheless interesting.

Yes LOTR is dark fantasy as is The Sword Of Truth saga.  Some are confusing dark fantasy with horror.  I would agree, that the child killing aspect alone would qualify this game as dark fantasy.

I do like the art style of the Asian games but have to agree the kung fu stuff is lost on me. I dont like kung fu movies or games. Might give the Chuck Norris fans a place to congregate though and that could be a good thing.

Double Chuck Norris post lol.

Most likely and I guess.  Nice and concise. Will return for more when the game launches.

Problem is OP you will have to be an adult to buy the game.

Damn Gamers seem to have shorter memories these days.

VG would not even exist today if SOE had not bailed it out but I guess any credit that was due them, especially for those that got to keep their jobs, is long past its sel;l by date?

If SOE drops VG who on earth would pick it up? Who would want to buy a non-established I.P. with no additional merchandise revenue coming in and in an industry where the first couple of months normally decide the long term appeal of a new game (or not). The best VG players can hope for is that SOE keep spending server space on this game because no one else is going to.

This whole SOE is evil stuff is boring and shows how shallow some people are.

+1 and this is comming from an ALPHA tester who played the game till 6 months later then came back again for a short stint a year later. VG was DoA until SoE gave Sigil funding. So stop acting like SoE is the bad guy , this game would have never launched if it wasn't for SoE.

Vanguard wasn't much better than DOA on its release if you really want to split hairs.  No one was done any favors by the condition vanguard was in when it was pushed out the door.

What exactly was vanguard saved from?  A swift death that would have been a minor story for a month.  Instead it has lingered long past any healthy semblance of an mmo and remains a constant reminder to any developer wanting to add a little sandbox to the theme park that they might end up like this nightmare.

If the company that "saved" vanguard from becoming vaproware was not willing to correct the problems that afflicted the project for the previous 4 years then it should have died in development.  Handing a pile of money to a mismanaged project without correcting the problems only guarentees it will continue to fail.  Time and money were not the issues behind the failure of vanguard.

Does it make any sense for soe to spend money on a project that already failed and take no corrective measures to make sure it didn't continue spiraling down the toilet?  Would anyone posting here think that was a wise investment with their money?

No shit if they had let it die then those who do enjoy the game might just wander into WOW territory, Christ .

People who have played them, are talking. Please read OP and thread title.

This is maybe your 8th post in this thread. Single-sentenced. That has nothing to do with skirmishes. I asked why would community prefer instanced small heavily scripted zones over a single large open zone with exploration full of deeds etc.

What I like about the skirmishes is that its more to do. Questing and grinding deeds is fine but there are times I want to do something else and the skirmishes are fun.  There are plenty of quests to do and deeds to complete the way things were before Mirkwood. I see nothing wrong with more/different things to do.

Does anyone know how improved the combat is now? I have heard mixed reviews of the combat revamp. If you can just rejoin the game with the new combat in place I would sign back up in a second.

Word is, its a great change. Groundbreaking? No. Much improved? Yes indeed. The changes are for everyone, you do not need SoM to feel it.

Just did a couple quests and a skirmish with my hunter. Combat is much better, other things I noticed right away was a legendary weapons improvement and faster mount speed.

Sounds great I Cant wait for the European release, seems like the update went smooth in US so we should get it on thursday :)

Only about an hour and a half d/load time and I have dsl. Then again I started it at 11:30 a.m. so maybe the servers werent too busy at that time of day. The skirmishes are a lot of fun.

EVE Online also launched Dominion today. What a coincidence.

Apples to oranges. Anyone playing LOTRO isnt  going to get sucked into EVE due to an xpac and vice versa. Two different settings and two different styles of play.
