Why not hand out one big quest, kill 10000 Wolf-Men and spare me the hassle of returning all the time?

LOL is there really a quest that redundant?  I mean I can believe it but all I heard for years was how brilliant and cutting edge VG would be.

My biggest gripe still remain to be those deadly dungeons. VG dungeons are HUGE, and filled to the rim with nameless critters UBER fast respawn and woe to you should you wipe in any of those low levels. You can easily lose the XP of an entire evening of hard work with a few bad placed deaths. I never shared the idea of death penalities. Ppl should not be penalized for playing a game. Period. You can encourage them to stay alive by bonus XP, if you must, but I never liked the idea of penalities. RL is full enough of that.

I think developers can do anything they want with their game.  Its their baby.  But thats also probably why VG only has 4 servers...

VG remains one of the greatest "could have beens" in MMO history. It has improved, but no dramatic turnover I can see.

I agree there.  Brad was given control of a multi million dollar project and he borked it.

Grab a brain . the quest is for gaining rep. It was put in for people that are waiting for a group for Thel  So you can solo up some rep Its no different than grinding rep in any mmo out there.  So they put in a little kill quest for solo people no one said you had to do it .

As far as dungeons go like I said grab a brain.

If you don't like the game, fine, but there's no reason at all for any of us to argue about what's right or what's wrong. Either you don't like it or you do. That's it.

Some people are continously saying that this and that game are doomed and dead and has failed. apparently not since each and every mmo out there that is "doomed", "dead", and "has failed" actually has a community, wether it's big or small and people who enjoys their game.

Yes, this is a forum and we all have the right to say whatever we like, but continuosly spreading negative comments and unconstructive ideas? That's not a discussion to me, that's just, sorry for this, whining.

......X likes the game, Y doesn't. Wham, it's settled, just drop it.

Cheers.

WIth all due respect this post is nonsensical.  This is a FORUM where people come to discuss, argue, debate and praise/be critical of MMO games.  To just say "I dont like it" and DROP IT is plain stupid.  Why dont you like it? How long did you play it? what features did you like/dislike about it? the number of questions goes on as does the discussion.  And by the way, these may offer some ideas/suggestions that could be put to good use by gamers and game developers alike.

Sorry if YOU dont want to hear anything bad about your game, which is basically what your post is about.  If it hurts your feelings so much take a clue and STOP READING THIS FORUM.  People have a right to whine, be negative and bash a game, the same way they can praise, adore and compliment a game as well.  This is what MMORPG.com is about and will always be about.

So that's settled, just drop it.   ::Hands the OP a tissue::

This thread is extremely daft. Its basicly saying that people should not post their views unless they like and support the game. The line "there's no reason at all for any of us to argue about whats right or whats wrong" is just stupid. The whole point of the forums is so that people with opposite views can debate about them. If we have different viewpoints then....urrgghh.....we're gonna disagree. The OP is saying that anyone who has anything critical to say about Vanguard should just drop it. No. How about YOU just drop it?

I recently resubscribed to Vanguard for the 4th time to re-evaluate my opinion of it. Its actually not a bad game at all......well.....by the standards of a PvE mmo anyway at least. However one of my biggest problems with the game is the ugly character models. The anatomy is completely wrong and every race uses the same body which is a complete cop-out. They are all basicly the same avatar but with a different head for each race. They look ugly, stupid and lifeless and need to be changed.

I have posted about this on other threads and the typical response from the diehard fans is "Oh well no game is perfect" or "Stop whining and dont play it if you dont like it". In other words the fans totally refuse to discuss anything that feels like an attack against the game. The silly thing is that I am not attacking the game. I am simply pointing out a problem with the game which is letting down the overall quality of Vanguard. What these fans fail to realise is that outright denial is only hurting their game further. They want more players to come and join them but at the same time they refuse to talk openly about whats wrong with it and instead will only talk about its good points. The phrase "sweeping it under the carpet" springs to mind.

This thread is another example of the general attitude of its fans.

Ya we get it neon you dont like the game .We've all heard it for what ,2 years now from you . No offence ment but i see you jump into every thread about vanguard and say the same things over and over . You sound like a broken record . Hate to say it but you sound like a whining little baby to me .

7 hours a week?  all on one day (weekly maint)?

because that's what wow has.  and i've seen Wow actually come up early from downtimes.  Your statement would only be true if the "1 month" in question were one of the first 2 months of wow's existance.

Actually your right but when i was playing WoW at the 2 year mark, so about the same age vanguard is now. There was many , many times i couldnt log back onto my server for up to 2 days .

That's not the case in LOTRO, only the humanoid types do.

And in SoTNW, no one drops money. But what i find funny is they drop food. Particularly amusing are the skeletons that drop beef.

lol well i guess lotro got it first ^^

lol@sotnw

Do you not play vanguard ? With all your posts on the vanguard forums about the ugly character models you would think you would know that only humaniods drop money in vanguard . So guess that makes LoTR second.

..ever wonderd that.

in every mmo when you kill a mob(non humenoid) it usually drops money...

why on earth would an animal drop money ^^

no mmorpg has really noticed that ^^...or  just botherd to fix it ^^

Why do you think , because MMO players are the biggest whiners in the history of mankind .With all the crying you hear on forums about the  stupidest little things ,god forbid if a game ever comes out that dosent reward the player for every kill

And when i jumped it looked like my toon was skipping down the street right in the middle of a gay pride parade that was enough LoTR for me

Gay pride parade in Bree? and people are complaining of the lack of events in LOTRO!

MyPreciousss.....i spat coffee in RL...the single funniest comeback i've seen in years :D You Win A Peanut :D

Also QFT on your OP, really good post.

Not only was it a brilliant comeback ,but Mypreciousss must have some ESP Ability because thats exacty where i was. In the street outside the Prancing Pony tavern in Bree.  To funny ,got quite the laugh from that comeback myself

Although one could tell by reading the info that Mythic was giving out during these last 2 years, this is now a fact for everyone. WAR is boring. No innovation at all. A game that plays exactly the same way as WoW or LotRO. All that PQ and ToK crap is nothing else than the usual MMO elements in a different wrapping (the wrapping being not very different itself). I need some answers from the fans. Why were you so excited with the ToK? How different is it from LotROs book thingy, and how can it change the way you are experiencing the game? What about PQs? What is so exciting about those? And the combat. Oh my. ABSOLUTELY no new ideas. Slow, repetitive, easy. As uninteresting as it can get.

The only thing I kind of like is GUI. Although it has bugs all over the place.

well lets not forget that wow copied everquests model 100%.

Why do people give wow credit for ideas that everquest, DAoC, and ultima online did way before them?

Because 90% of these trolls came into the genre with WoW.  All they know is WoW.

I dunno seems like a different game you guys are playing lol.

As far as the un-install. I DLed the trial by first DLing the Sony launch pad. From there I DLed the trial.

The launch pad showed up in my windows menu and I could un-install it. However the Vanguard did not show up anywhere. I am guessing because I DLed it thru the launchpad. There were no problems with either the DL or running the game client.

Wasnt really planning on writing a review since I only spent a few hours in the game, but as some of you have made comments I will try to reply.

The game for the most part ran like crap on my computer is one reason I did not like it. It was choppy and the best frame rate I could get was around 20 fps. I had to turn down the graphics to balanced and medium for the most part to achieve this.

My computer is custom built with very good quality parts and I could run AOC (when it worked) and most other games at high graphics settings and get good fps.

Q6600, 8800gt, 4 gig heatsink ram, gigabyte mobo, etc etc.

The game looked flat or something. It reminded me of DAOC graphics heh. It was like there wes no depth perception or something. And the colors were off...like the trees were too green or something.

Now maybe it does look "amazing" as some of you have suggested on the highest settings but you would need a $3000 dollar computer to run it. Sorry, but its not worth building a new computer of those specs to get this game to look nice. I did turn the graphics all the way up to high and took a peek but didnt see that much of a difference. It still looked flat with no depth perception to my eyes.

The avatars, especially the males looked just out of proportion and had this moon looking Shrek type face lol.

Animations were a real turn off. Running with arms straight down at the sides. Jumping is just a little up movement. Spell attacks you just raise your arms a little bit.

Finally, I could not find any quests or any helpful information on figuring out the game on the trial isle. There is only one tutorial that I found about diplomacy. And the diplomacy system seemed really stupid to me. Like a mini card game. That turned me off as well. The trial isle seems to just leave you to figure stuff out all by yourself. Hell I couldnt even figure out how to talk in the global chat to ask questions. The game is just not very intuitive at all.

I could see playing it if it were a free game or a reduced fee or if you already have the Sony pass but I don't think its worth $14.99 per month in any shape or form when you consider there are much better quality games out for that price.

Again I only spent a few hours in the game so probably didnt get to see many of the gameplay features. But based on what I saw on the trial isle its just not worth it. The trial isle was boring.

Anyways, the game was just not to my tastes. To each their own.

Well you mentioned DAoC ,so vanguard isnt your first mmo. First off your an infant in the world you have to earn the right to get and see better spell effects and animations by leveling your character. Ive never played one game yet where a low level character dosent start off with limited animations.Even a first time WOW player could tell you that  As far as running and jumping your just nit-picking. Sorry vanguard dosent have faggy little twirls and and spins when you jump like WOW or LOTR , but for me thats great . If you think Vanguards new Free trail is so boring just what game's have you played because to me vanguards 10 starter area's and its new free starter area are head and shoulders above any other game ive played Ya wow starter area's where so good i was wishing they had a no xp button like vanguard. Who you trying to kid here ?

When vanguard first came out i was running it on a old AGP computer on higher settings than you claim.  I built that $4000 computer your talking about . Actually $3200' but the monitor put it over $4000 and ive been playing the game every setting maxed at 1920x1200 sence about 5 days after release  Ive had absolutly no performance problems , except my 8800 GTX was crashing quite abit the first few months , but that was nividia's crappy driver's . Seems nvidia was so excited about getting the first DX 10 card out that the forgot to porperly support DX9 , fing retards. You could build the same computer for about 1500 now without the smoking monitor though.

And finally if you couldnt figure out vanguard  from lev 1 to 10 in a few hours without searching for guides than i think the game would be a little tough for you, so its a good thing its not to your taste

No i wont be buying warhammer

I have never been able to understand how people can say these things about Vanguard. I bought Vanguard when it first came out and it was absolutely dreadful. Sorry but it looked like crap and my PC ran all the other mmos fine. I remember the landscape looking quite nice in some areas but all the character models were the ugliest things I had seen for a long time. The game just seemed to have all the standard boring content that you get in any mmo except that it was more dull and lifeless to play.

I came back to have another look about 4 or 5 months ago and it still looked as bad as it ever had done except that it ran a bit smoother. I really couldnt see all of these amazing improvements that so many people kept ranting about. I uninstalled it again soon afterwards.

Now I hear that the character models are being redone and with this new trial island I can have a peek at the game again and see if anything is new. If I had to pay for it then I certainly wouldnt give it a second thought but if I can try it for free then it will be worth a third look. I agree with what WisebutCruel said.......Vanguard does indeed need a LOT of polish.

Well all help you try and understand than , ok this is a tough one but am sure you will understand . Not everyone has the same likes and dislikes as you thats why . I know this is hard to believe but some people can play games for what they are and have fun. Some of us dont need every little thing to be perfect ,its a game and if it dosent visually stimulate you enough to use a little bit of your own imagination than i feel sorry for you life must be real fun

I suggest that you start reading some books to help you learn to use your own imagination start with Morther gooses nursey rhymes and work your way up to the classic's  Trust me games are alot more fun if you have the ability to use your own imagination.

VG is still buggy. Performance is barely acceptable ( can be compared to EQ2 ). But when it comes to graphics and gameplay its probably the beste MMO out. So if WAR doesn't convince me, i'll stay with VG.

Bugs are annoying though.

Actually bro ive been playing Vanguard every setting maxed sence day1 and it runs 10 times better than EQ2, honestly EQ2 is the only game i couldnt run with every setting maxed ya i could play but it wasnt very smooth

Omg i paused for 1 second well i was chunking in vanguard, think all go cry .

I'm sorry for you if you are playing on some old hardware.

I have played Vanguard during beta and the first month of release (and tried it out again last month). I have always played with all of the settings maxed out, antialiasiang forced in the gfx display drivers (as the crappy VG engine still doesn't support antialiasing - wow the jaggy lines all over the screen are nice, we are in 2008 aren't we ?????) and anisotropic filtering 16x. To get even better visual quality than what is available in game I have also edited the ini file to display much bigger drawing distances (for grass, trees, objects, mobs, etc...). This since beta. And I never had any performance problems with this game.

And this was 1 and a half year ago, with an older PC than this one - I had an ati x1900xt512 (I have since upgraded the cpu, the ram and the gfx card). Today we are in 2008 for Christ's sake.

So yes, I can play with shadows and even ,much more detail on screen. Even AoC with much better gfx is no problem with everything maxed out.

Sorry, but I have to laugh hard when people with old PCs that can barely play Wow tell me "You actually think you have a computer that can play vanguard with shadows on everything. now thats funny". Yes you are very funny, indeed.

Dont be sorry ive been playing vanguard every setting maxed at 1920x1200 sence day 1

We are in 2008 and this crappy game engine still doesn't have object shadows. Houses, objects, etc... have no shadows... How could they release such an unfinished game?

And I'm not even talking about water reflections, etc... which are even basic game engine features in free 2 play games today. I'm only asking for the most basic thing : shadows. The game looks great at night, but when the sun is high or inside buildings with lights it's so bad...
