Have to agree, I loved this game.  With the exception of the questing, was just so so bad.

agree..., I play'd Tera until lvl 25, after that I stopped. I like to be a solo player and up this lvl u need party for instances and Boss-quests and there the problem starting. You never find ppl for help or party. I asked i open chat and waited for 3 hours, ppl showed up, looking around leaving again but there where no invite, talking/answering. So I deinstalled Tera sadly.

Thats too bad. But I know how it is. I ran to level 60 on Lancer, Slayer, and Warrior. I also have a level 45 Berserker, all of that solo.  I've only been in to the first two instances a couple of times.  I very much enjoy the combat system, and the graphics are nice.  But the guild and dungeon system need work.  Its too bad, as it could be so much better, with just a little more thought.

Oh well. Life is filled with missed opportunities.

Don't lament what is, look for an alternative.

The whole thread reminds me of a PETA speech.  The PC cause celebre, save our precious and adorable virtual animals, pixels have feelings too.

Perhaps.  Or perhaps its a perspective that has nothing to do with the tree hugging, or touchy feelly types? Its an unfortunate reality that violence is some times necessary. But that IS a reality.  That doesn't mean that one should take pleasure in it.  Violence is seldom the best solution to a given problem. But it does tend to be the simplest and most thoughtless response.

There is a better way. Its known as the ZAP. Zero Aggression Principle.  But make no mistake, those who follow the ZAP, are seldom pacifists.  They simply do not believe in initiating violence.

I mean in games. Yes in RL also, but that's not the issue in this forum.

No, I mean... when I saw an article on a gaming website "the cool upcoming games in 2013", it was like 90% of them were about war and killing, mostly as dark and gloomy as it gets.

No seriously, I really am not overly moralistic or whimsical. I play games for 25 years or so, and per se, I don't mind that games to a degree are combat centered. Really not. I mean, I collect swords, I am pro-NRA... but still: why have our games become so damn war & killing focused? I am really TIRED of it.

War against terrorist, war in Arabia, World War III, World War II, war in other worlds, war WITH other worlds... it never ends! And more often isn't even the funny kind of combat, as in, say Dynasty Warriors where it is so hyperbole absurd that you really don't take it serious. No, the war in games today is VERY serious. And all is grey, brown and dark, visually speaking.

Bending it back to MMOs, it is the same. Once in Ultima Online, a MMO was about a world. In Star Wars Galaxies I knew people who spent 50% of their time or more as DANCERS. Or musicians. Or Doctors. Or Hairdressers. And I don't have to tell you the many fantastic stories of the UO days.

And today?

Go there kill this. Even if it is wrapped in some fishy story appearing not to contain "kill this", it does involve killing. Always. Everywhere.

Sorry, maybe I am getting old (42 here) or what, but I am certainly not a pacifist or overly sensible, but I am just tired and worn out of KILL KILL KILL. What about finding other solutions? Talking to the robbers in the forest? Outsmarting them? Finding alternative solutions? Sure, I mean in single player games there are Sims or Civ or whatever. But by and large the games are so focused and dominated by war and killing, it starts to sorta unsettle me. Not that I think it causes violence, that is BS. But why people so much want to experience war and gloom and despair nowadays? Ultima the RPGs had combat too, but it didn't revolve around combat. Or there were games like Kings Quest or whatever and war was just one part.

Especially in MMOs I feel like Online Games have so gone in the wrong direction with their focus on combat as THE sole focus. Sure they add some figleaf crafting and a bit discovery, but by and large 95% of the MMos today revolve around war and killing. And sorry, but I just think that is sick. And as gamer it really starts to bore me, same as someone who eats cake every day, you reach a point where you simply can't see another cake anymore!

Rant over...

You make some excellent points.  The simple answer; Because its what people have been conditioned to expect.  Playing to the expectations of ones audience is the path to riches (or power in politics).  Its also cheaper from a time/talent/creative perspective.  Dev's like almost everyone, will take the path of least resistance.  The tragic results are all around us, obvious to anyone who isn't too blind to see them.

You people really think you know what cryptic is doing and that they just ignored the bug ? Idk what's more stupid , people making up conspiracies like that when they have no idea how to run a mmo or what sort of channels you have to go through . The funny thing is you people actually believe the bs you say yet I bet if you tried to start an mmo you would fall flat on your faces, it'd be one thing if a few players played but thousand upon thousands players play the game so they recieve thousands of bug reports and thousands of forum posts on various things, furthermore they don't just camp the forums. It's nice for people to act like they know how to run a business when they have no expirence doing so

You know, one of the more interesting things about the internet, is that you never really know who you might be dealing with.  You are making some really broad, sweeping general statements, with little in the way of evidence to back them up.  My remarks are obviously speculation. But they are backed up by decades of personal experience in both the production and business side of various operational enterprises.   You of course, are free to believe what you wish.  If you have some evidence, I'd be fascinated to examine it.

I really wasn't bothered or effected with this exploit, but I would have thought that would have raised the question: The exploit was know for weeks/months, why wasn't action taken sooner instead of last sunday (5/19)?

Well, if you read the Cryptic version of events, then you''ll see that they "first became aware of the bug on Sunday (5/19)".

Which means they're saying that they never received any bug reports, tweets, emails or any other notification that a bug like this existed. Quite simply, they were not aware of it.

All these people posting on various forums claiming that they told Cryptic about the bug are lying.

Or Cryptic is lying.

But BOTH parties can't be telling the truth, surely ?

Its not quite that simple.  Given how studio politics plays out in some instances, those reports may not have reached the people responsible for making the decision to deal with them.  Look at it this way: Given the nature of some of this, it implicates QA and the coders involved in the use of the legacy code base.  It would be very much in their own best interests to keep this information as minimized as possible. Until it blew up in such a public fashion that the higher ups either discovered it, or it was realized that it couldn't be ignored any more.  I've seen this happen out and about in the real world (far beyond gaming development).

You obviously don't know Cryptic's track record and that they have been known for doing such things like this in the past. They are a mediocre company with terrible developers that somehow got brought into the spotlight. Their only good game was CoH which was killed off by NCsoft.

Cryptic was doing a fine job of killing CoH before they left.

Cryptic is a bad developer and the amazing thing is that they are actually getting worse with each new release.

Subjective value judgement.   I really, REALLY disliked STO. Its one of the very few games that I've spent less than two hours on, before I gave up and uninstalled it.  Neverwinter on the other hand, I quite enjoy. I currently have a level 53 Great Weapon Fighter, and a level 16 Trickster Rogue.  I enjoy the combat system, the lore and while the graphics aren't bleeding edge, they are good enough for the game as it exists.

I suspect at least some of those who are going into hysterics over the "economy" and other such nonsense, are either guilty of exploiting it  themselves, and/or no longer play.  That would tend to explain the depths of emotion we are seeing from some of them.

Thanks. Good videos. The game looks like fun. Lets see how it plays.

Thats the first thing that came to my mind as well... ^^  I have a level 48 GWF and a level 13 TR. I'm quite enjoying the game.  EXP and drops are about whats typical of these types of games.  I've even had some blue drops.  The graphics aren't bleeding edge, but then they don't need to be, for the game to be enjoyable to me.

WE pale face?... ^^  Gamers, perhaps, but the "always connected, yapping on FacePalm, or their phones, or texting crowd" are going to eat this up with a spoon.  Not to mention the endless legions of TV Zombies, that can't get enough of various sports, Reality TV and other such brain rotting nonsense. ^^

Just hope he doesn't get high blood pressure or a heart attack while filming.

This is one of the few times that I've seen Angry actually at a loss for words... ^^  It might have been better if he hadn't been totally hammered by being awake so long.

I have an feeling that this has something to do with patent that allow camers / kinect-like devices to check HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE SITTING IN FRONT OF CONSOLE / TV.     Now group that with "DRM" and "face recognition" and "privacy"  :E

BUSTED!!  you have caught them!!  the US government is working with Microsoft to get XBox One in every US household so that they can monitor all activity through the Kinect.

US + MS + Cloud = best, largest bad-guy database and profiling system in the world!!

Laugh if you wish. Given the paranoia back in Mordor on the Potomac, do you really think they would pass up the opportunities to be had from such systems?  ^^  Not to mention that Mickysoft is such a Good Corporate Citizen, they wouldn't have any problems with it.  Its all for the HomeLand, after all... ^^

As Yakov Smirnoff was fond of saying, In Soviet America, TV watches you!... ^^

You know, I hear you can cover the Kinect with a tin-foil hat!

Just make sure its tin foil... Aluminium doesn't work nearly as well...

Did ANY gamers ask for these features? Really?

At this point, I doubt Mickysoft is targeting gamers.  They seem to be going after the facepalm (facebook...), TV watching crowd.   Someone over there has their eyes on being a "social/entertainment" hub, rather than a game console.  We will have to see what happens at E3.

How hard is it for your people to understand that both consoles (PS4/XBO) are going to play next gen games - that is a given, so the ONLY differences are going to be

1. Exclusives

2. What else the console can do

Which is.. duhhhhh why they are marketing/advertising and showing off #2 and #1 in their press conferences...

And E3 is going to cover 1 and everything else (the massive numbers of games going to both consoles and PC because they are all on x86 now)

I did say, that we will have to wait until we see what happens at E3... ^^  I'm not at all surprised at this shift in focus.  They are after a wider demographic, and also want a slice of various other pies in the process.  It remains to be seen if this comes back to bite them in a tender part, as it did with the general reaction to Windows 8 did... ^^

I am happy because everytime this happens, more people are educated about cash shops and the destruction f2p causes, thus creating even more f2p haters. Play the game if you will, but don't spend one penny. As consumers it's our duty to keep them honest.

Train wreck? In your dreams. I've been having quite a bit of fun with the game.  I'm quite enjoying the combat system (level 47 GWF and level 12 TR).  The graphics aren't bleeding edge, but then they don't need to be, to be entertaining.  I have no problem with cash shops, the games Dev's need to make money in some fashion. I also believe in supporting games I enjoy.

What's going to happen to Gamestop? :/

Looks like they are SOL.  Given that we are in the depths of the IP wars, this was a predictable move on the part of Mickysoft.   I'd be quite surprised if Mickysoft doesn't move to always connected games (and later, cloud only games) over a few years time.  Given various trend lines, this may turn out to be one of the last (if not the last) console generations.

being punished by PWE least of your worries because being charged for fraud is not good hehe

Given how these things work, I suspect most of the CC companies are going to come down on the side of their own customers.  Especially those based in the US.    Proving fraud can be difficult, in the best of situations. Given the details of these transactions, its going to be even more difficult, and likely not worth the effort.

Any idea if they are going to make last names optional? I can never think of a last name I like to go with the first name I plan to use, it just seems akward to me. Think they will include an option to just not use it? I hated sending whispers in ff14 1.0 to people due to how damned long some peoples names were. I mean it'd be nice if it was an option.

I'm actually fine with last names.  That means if your normal name is taken, you can still use it by adding a different last name.  At least that has worked that way in several games so far.

good song but I can uninstall game which if  70% of the player base did the same they would send a quick statement to MMO makers that they should listen to the CUSTOMER because we are always right.

it's not 70% of the playerbase it's 70% of the people on the forums. And not even "the people on the forums" but "the people on the forums who voted.

Exactly.  Not to mention, no doubt many of those voting are socket puppet accounts, of people just looking to grief the entire player base.
