Edit: I mean, have a free class/gender system, then release a gender locked class...

Its simple economics. By having it only Elin, they seriously cut down on the development of art assets and all of the related staff work.   But as far as I'm concerned, its too little too late.  I quite enjoyed the game (four level 60's. Lancer, Warrior, Slayer, Zerker).  But I really hate the Elin.  But since its the most popular race in KTera, thats hardly a surprising choice.

Classy to the end. The best of good luck to you Grummz.  I hope things work out for you and Red5.

I see far to many people complain or give input on the way companies choose to develop their games but clearly have no idea about any part of the process that goes into creating said game.  I think as a community we need to step back and give devs a break.

I wholeheartedly believe our unreasonable expectation over that last few years have had a massive impact on the current state of mmo gaming.  Devs forced to cut corners or compromise to deal with those expectations. We need to take games for what they are and praise the devs for the things they do right more than bash and crap all over them for the things we dislike (even though most wont/don't understand why such creative or design based decisions are made.  Maybe then devs will actually be inspired to create the games we all have wishfully swirling around our overindulged egos, instead of trying to make everyone happy and therefore coming out with a game that is bland with no heart or soul.

Just my two cents (throw lit match on dry bush that is

I suspect many of the problems are caused by publishers/investors attempting to micro manage process cycles, sequences that they really have no clue about the operation of.  Especially, when it comes to cutting corners and not allowing sufficient time for QA and polish.

They are, after all the ones with the internal power to cause such changes. Impatient players can howl to their hearts content, and not really have an impact on such things.  This is a good over view of the gaming industry and the general gaming population. There are exceptions, but over all... ^^

But its shiny!  <face palm> ^^

I doubt its a rumor.  One of the European Dev's (red border people) posted in the thread, and said something about it being unfortunate that we had to find out this way, and that the official statement would be out after their meeting. Later their post was removed, and its not in the Dev tracker any more.

I guess when you squander 100 million someones head has to roll.

Well thats the theory. In practice, look at the Too Big to Fail banks that almost destroyed the worlds economy... Nothing happened to their leaders... ^^

I can't say that I'm surprised at this. It follows a typical pattern, that I've seen way too many times before. Mark Kerns would hardly be the first (nor last) founder of a company to be back stabbed by their own board.  What ever comes next, I wish Mark and Red5 all the best of luck.

Ea has quite a pile of corpses in the mmo genre.

Yes they do. But I suspect NCsoft has even more.  I was sad to see Warhammer go, but it was all too predictable.  I hope the tech staff all manage to find new jobs.

Lets count NC Soft: AutoAssault, Dungeon runners, Dragonica, Tabula Rasa

But EA dont kill games it kills developers here the list is quite long, to mention only the better: Orgin, Bullfrog, Maxis, Westwood, Mythic, Dice, Pandemic. On life support  Bioware.

Good points. But NCsofts count is actually nine MMOs. Check this list.

Add Exteel,  Point Blank (Korean server), City of Heroes,  Linage (NA server), and Trickster to the list.

Looks like fun. Lets see how it plays.  I'd be interested in seeing how it compares to WoW rogue class.  I've played dagger spec since 2004.  As for the graphics, they are designed to run well on a WIDE selection of the installed hardware base.  The  ultra high resolution graphics of some games, seriously limit their own appeal to anyone lacking a high end system.

Never tried Tabula Rasa, which I'd have really liked to.

Then there's Rubies of Eventide, a small old MMO that's cancelled by now, would play that even if only for nostalgia's sake.

Not really sure about any of the others.

You know, you are one of the very few people I've ever run across that remembers Rubies. ^^  Entertaining game for its time, but even back then the graphics left much to be desired.  But it was the many players I interacted with that made it fun.

My first would have been Tabula Rosa as well.  I loved aspects of that game.  I played from launch, until the day it closed down.

Second would be Earth and Beyond

Third would be Ultima X: Odyssey:

Merry Christmas! You're out of a job!... Me thinks that the days of CCP actually caring about their own people, are long since past.  Their suits have become little different from those of other corporations, mores the pity.

Dallies have become just about everyone's bane.  They are simply a lazy and thoughtless approach to design.  Which would pretty much describe much that his Divine Devness Ghostcrawler came up with over the last while.  Perhaps now that he has left Blizzard, they can get back to a game thats not just paint by numbers.

I have four 90's at this point (warrior, rogue, DK, hunter) and timeless isle allowed me to gear them up for the next expansion.  But I'm on vacation now.  I have very little interest in raids (people howling at you because you don't know a fight, the first time through tends to be annoying... ^^).  So timeless isle was a good opportunity for semi decent gear for once.

Lets hope that WoD can salvage at least some of what made WoW such a good game, during some of its rise to fame.

That business model works for me.  You don't have to play the game if you don't like it.  These games cost tens of millions to create. I have no problem with the Dev's wanting to make a profit off of their work.  It remains to be seen how the game will play. Until we know that, I'm going to reserve judgement.

Wow, I always thought the only way he was leaving Blizzard was with a toe tag.

Would be really interesting to know what brought about his leaving, but I have my doubts we'll ever know the true story.

You never do unless it's just a train wreck of a person that goes all tabloid. I really doubt GC is leaving on bad terms. He's either unhappy with the direction the game is going or as a creative person really wants something new to work on and maybe even has a new offer somewhere else.

It could be any number of possibilities.  From a rat fleeing a sinking ship, to someone over at Blizzard corporate, finally seeing the writing on the wall, after losing millions and millions of players.  Only time will tell.

Christmas came early!

Exactly my thoughts!! Merry Christmas to all!

Nah, just mostly dead. ^^  Its free, anyone can check it out and make up their own mind if they enjoy it or not.  I came in at launch, and played to cap (50 if I remember right).  This was the second time for Dave Allen (first was Horizons, now Istaria) and also the second time for him being back stabbed.  But thats water under the bridge at this point.

This isn't a troll post. I want to love EQN.

EQ1 was my favorite game of all time. I loved EQ2 and WoW as well. Every game since has been the exact same formula with a different skin.

Convince me that this game is going to be different. What are the main points that are making it different than any other generic MMO out there? What has you sold?

Thanks in advance

Convince you? I've not managed to convince myself at this point... ^^  What I've seen looks promising, but at this stage separating the hype from any real advances isn't really possible.  Once we have more real data and some hands on experience, that will no doubt change.  Until that point, do your own research and take whats said with several grains of salt.

I tried scarlet blade, it's like the poster child of what im saying.

Tell me about it... ^^ I made it to level 15 (just to see what the next armor looked like ^^) before I uninstalled it.  The jiggle physics are nice, but the game itself is nothing worth bothering with.  Its the usual pointless grind fest that we've come to expect from certain sections of the Dev community.  Even the combat system itself is generic.

If you want eye candy and a better than average action combat system, try TERA. I have four 60's (lancer, zerker, warrior, slayer) all Casti females. ^^  But the end game is pretty much the same endless gear grind that you find in most other games.

I frankly have lost faith in this game. Blizzard too little too late. Housing is in every modern MMORPG, to not add it for so long was silly. Everquest 2 has the best housing system in any MMORPG, but WoW has kiddified EQ2 as well.

Everyone calls WoW "Kiddie Craft," but WoW was far from that in Vanilla. Kiddie Craft started in WOTL, but mostly in Cataclysm. After all of this does Blizzard really think this expansion will bring players back?

I BETA tested WoW Vanilla WoW was epic. The game in it's current state is a mess. It is too easy to get to max level. So many servers are empty becuase they overfilled them. So many aspects of the game are dumbed down. I say this as someone who actually likes some of the less popular changes. I actually like the dungeon finder. The battle grounds I have mixed feelings about. They killed world PVP, but some people forget how difficult it was to get groups for some dungeons before that.

Long story short, Blizzard you flat out waited too long to listen to your base. WoW will be no more once the new MMO's come starting next year.

I can't believe people still say this type of stuff after all of the failed attempts to dethrone WoW.

Exactly. The only real threat to WoW, has always been and likely will remain Blizzard themselves.   In this case its easy to put a name to that, Ghostcrawler... He has done more to lose Blizzard millions of WoW players, than all of the other MMO games since 2004 combined.

Citation needed? Look at the world first contender guilds dropping to ten man from twenty five or dissolving all together. Hardcore raiding has NEVER been a majority and it's only getting smaller. Why would a company make content only 5% of the playerbase gets to experience? I have 4 50s in this game, all decked in DL gear and haven't set foot in Coil. Like the other poster said, I'm in no hurry to either. Players who consume content like locusts are the same ones who end up playing for a few weeks after a patch then unsubbing till the next. Why would you make content for people that fickle?

Well stated.  The 733t raider types will almost always complain about anything that isn't so difficult that it inspires a rage quit response in 98% of the player base.  The idea that a company should spend the time/talent/money that quality content takes to create, to pander to a SMALL percentage of the player base is nonsense. Yoshi P is anything but a fool, so I wouldn't expect him to cater to such types.  2.1 looks like a lot of fun. Lets see how it plays.
