I didn't know Eve had a finish line where you could win.

Does this mean that of someone wins Eve will be over till the competition starts again?

It may not have a win in that regard but it certainly has winning and losing on a more micro level of encounters between players and corporations.

Plex does give the opportunity to buy your way to bigger and better guns than you might otherwise be able to afford which could under some circumstances result in a Pay to Win scenario but it's also not a guaranteed win button either.  But than again few P2W games really are now are they?  I mean just because you spent hundreds of dollars getting +20 gear for that Asian grinder doesn't mean you can stand still and let your free play opponent beat on you without reacting.

You can spend all the isk you want. But if you lack the skills someone else in a much cheaper ship can kill you. Isk means nothing if you do  not understand the mechanics.

Rule #1 in Eve: Don't fly what you cant afford to lose.

One of the tutorials even sets you up to die so you learn how harsh it can be. Only the player can be blamed.

Pretty much agree with your above. But rule number one is Trust No One.  Rule number TWO, is don't fly what you can't afford to replace. ^^

Nice article.  I tend to enjoy the lore of various games, if some thought has been put into its creation.  It would be interesting to see more Wildstar lore columns.

Rift has its hardcore dedicated players, I doubt thats going to change.  I leveled  to cap twice (back when it was 50).

I've gone back to check out the game when it went free to play.  I managed to get another two levels on my stealth specialist, before I decided that the game just wasn't that much fun any more.  Different things for different people I guess.

What concerns me, is how much longer Trion is going to run Defiance, before they pull the plug.  The game has always had a troubled position within Trion. I doubt they want to spend much more on its development.  Going F2P may be their last option to get a bit more cash out of it, before they close it down, and move on to something else.

I really do not know what changed other then i claimed a few things and some like char slots, bag slots and load out slots I already had.. I see no difference with my game then i did before and still can not make that race that came with DLC#2 i think.  So can someone tell me what changed for someone that already owns the game (without the DLC's)

The game got a lot harder - do anything at threat level 5+ and you will see.

If you want REAL "fun", try to do the daily/weekly with some high levels jacking the threat up to 10... I'm wondering how much longer Trion is going to keep this game running.  Given past history, I doubt they plan much more development for it.

"This is the power of the crowdfunding that made Star Citizen possible: a publisher would make us ship tomorrow regardless of the current build quality… but as you are all focused on quality rather than a financial return for shareholders we are able to take a few more days to deliver something that is stable."

What a load of crap.  Nothing like talking down to your customers and treating them like gullible morons.  Have some respect for your backers.

Delaying is a good thing, but not all publishers are EA.

No, some are even worse... Like NCsoft that has axed 8-9 western games so far...

As for the other, I'd much rather them take their time, and release when its ready, than release just to appease a group of jaded, entitled, impatient, spoiled brats.

No one forced anyone to be a backer. Most of us did so, because we believe in Chris Roberts, and his vision for the game.

Best of luck to the tech staff. I hope they all manage to find new jobs, or start their own studio.
Given this is the same turbine that closed down AC2 (right after selling us an expansion...) I'm surprised they didn't just close the servers down.  Neither AC nor the new return of AC2 can be making them much money.  I suspect the servers will not last very long.
From the sounds of it, 2016 is more realistic.  When you have that many different staffs involved, it makes it even more drawn out.

I think Mark is assuming we're all forgetful neanderthals. Anything he's apart of, or writes about, has no credence or validity whatsoever.

Can't help but agree. Sorry Mr. Kern, but a pretty damn cool game (Firefall) is now nothing like it was once upon a time. And the people that loved it hold you sole responsible.

Do they? You may, but some of us know more about the complexities of the studio and business politics.  There is no doubt plenty of blame to go around.  The creation of an MMO is one of the most complex software/hardware projects that exist.  Miss any of hundreds (if not thousands...) of variables, and Bad Things happen.

I spent more than two and a half years in Firefall.  I know first hand of its initial promise and potential.  Thats what kept me in the game for so long.  But over time, it drifted from being a shooter, with MMO elements, to being a crafting/economy focused MMO, with some shooter elements.

Its sad, but these types of things happen.  Inexperienced management (all levels) production bottle necks, frequent changes in direction, and finally investor panic.  Its all happened all too many times before.  But as always I wish Jazz Hands and the good folks at Red5 all the best of luck.

While the game originally looked promising, with this new information, its off my list.  It sounds like just another Asian Gankfest grinder.

Now all they need is full loot and perma death, to make it a Goonies dream game...<face palm>

This was predictable.  Given how matters stand at Trion, I wonder what the next step will be.

Sadly, TERA is a classic example of a good game, that was pushed out too soon, and has such a small staff that they really can't afford to do the game justice.

Case in point is the new reaper class.  Its elin only... Now while that may be the Koreans favorite class (lets not go there... ^^), its an example of the limits that a small staff imposes on production.

I quite enjoyed the game (I have four 60's, lancer, slayer, warrior, and zerker), mainly for the combat system.  Add in the established fact that players in NA TERA are at best second class citizens, and it adds up to a game that quite sadly misses its full potential.

After grinding out four 90's, I'd had enough (more than enough).  There was NO WAY IN HELL, that I was going to continue my sub, without any real reason.  The leaving of his Divine Dev'ness Ghostcrawler is one of the very few bright spots of the last several years.  Lets see how Warlords works out in the winter.

Welcome to EVE... Its NOT a game for the trusting, naive, Progressive or anyone else who has become a victim of the nanny state mentality.   Thats simply the way it operates. If you don't like it, don't play it. Its really as simple as that.

Three rules will help anyone actually wishing to play the game.

Rule One. Trust NO One.  I mean it. While there are lots of helpful people in EVE, its also home base to Mittens and his merry band of rampaging internet thugs (and worse...).

Rule Two. NEVER undock what you can't afford to replace.

Rule Three. Keep your clone up to date, and use jump clones in really dangerous situations.

I played EVE as a high sec carebear for almost six years.  In that time I never left high sec, nor did I fleet with anyone else in the game. Its a good game, for those interested in such things.  But it isn't nor is it ever likely to become a "nice" game for those expecting to have their hands held, and/or have the Dev's kiss their boo boos when someone is "mean" to them.

How do I plan on spending my time? Playing Warframe and Wildstar... ^^  I have four 90's at this point, so I'm quite burned out on Panda land.

Apologies to all the haters, but I love this trailer.

I can see a movie release in the wind.

Why apologize to haters? Its not as if anyone but other haters really cares what they are ranting and raving about... ^^  I've quite enjoyed the ESO trailers.  They take a lot of talent and experience to create.

Just like those who are foaming at the mouth about the game.  They have no clue about the complexity of these types of projects, nor any grasp of what it takes to create one.

I'm always amused by the rabid hatred expressed by some of them, who in their ignorance wouldn't last a day in the typical development studio environment.   But then haters gota hate.

Very nice trailer.  Of course, the Usual Suspects will be foaming at the mouth, but then "Haters gota hate"... Its an interesting progression over the last few trailers.  They really should make a movie.

I aim to please :P

The real question is how does it feel to go 6-7 months being disappointed by this game, 4 in ESO and now you'll be sitting around holding your breath for EQ. Sounds like one continual, ongoing, massive disappointment for you...gotta suck that no developer wants to create a game that you would enjoy, I don't know if I could just sit around waiting for something to happen.

Exactly.  I suspect that OP wouldn't be happy with just about any game, that it was technically possible to create at this point.  They are all too typical of the jaded, cynical types, who nothing and no one can please.  Perhaps they need to find another hobby, that they will actually enjoy.

Well, its sad when some one gets scammed, but anyone playing the game should remember the three most important rules.

Rule One. Trust No One.  Seriously. There are lots of good people in EVE, but there are also lots of Goonies and other such.

Rule Two. NEVER un dock anything you can't afford to replace.

Rule Three. Keep your clone up to date, and use jump clones in dangerous situations.

Thats a blast from the past.  I quite enjoyed the year I spent in Perpetuum (right after launch).  Of course, being a Care Bear, I stayed in the PvE islands. ^^  They always seemed like a dedicated group of people, I'm happy they are still around.  I may have to check out the game later in April.
