Consoles have their place, but as far as I'm concerned, nothing beats the PC for games I'm interested in.  Not to mention that all of my motor reflexes are mouse and keyboard based.  I'm simply not going to mess those up by learning a new set for a console controller.

Then of course there is MickeySofts Xbox One... Talk about overwhelming arrogance.  That console was designed for the whims of Big Content, not for Mickysofts unfortunate customers.  It takes a LOT to make Sony look good by comparison, but the Evil that lurks in Redmond has managed it.

I'll close with a joke thats making the rounds... "In Microsoft America, TV watches you!"... ^^

The main problem that many people forget, is that this is a REAL beta, and not a promo meant to pump up hype.  That means there is going to be limited content, many bugs to be reported, documented and fixed, and all of the rest that goes with beta.

They are trying a different approach in their development, and only time will tell if it works out.  I've been in for about a year and a half. In that time I've enjoyed many aspects of the game (mainly).  But anyone looking for a nearly complete experience, doesn't understand how Red5 is running this process.

Even with all of the ups and downs, I'm still hopeful that the game will work out, and continue on and become even more enjoyable over time.  Open beta is July 9th, and then everyone can get a better sense of the game.

What do you guys really want? A "Triple A" MMORPG that has no means of earning any money what so ever?

Players want a cash shop built correctly, and not one that relies on supremacy goods and other game breaking item shop purchases.

Looking at whats available, I'm having a very difficult time, finding the "supremacy goods"... ^^  Perhaps you would care to provide some examples?  All of the things I'm seeing, are rather below what can be gained from runs through various upper level dungeons, let alone the raids.

lol, they're insane

Insane? Not really. Arrogant? Very.  The Evil that lurks in Redmond has had things its own way for so long, that its become much like Mordor on the Potomac.   As much as I dislike Sony, if they play this right, they can deal a serious blow to Mickysofts market share in the console market.  Only time will tell how this works out.

I don't think people are defending the game. I think they are calling out this site on it's obvious duplicity.

What duplicity? Not liking a game?

MMORPG.com is damned if they do and damned if they don't with the tinfoil hat crowd. If they like a game that's advertised on the site, then they were paid to write that. If they don't like a game that was advertised on the site then some kind of deceit or duplicity is going on.

This is not really a case of "Damned if you do and damned if you don't". This site accepted $$$ for Ads and then plastered those pics all up and down this site site. While their 1st round of Ads came through, I remember having to quickly minimize this window if my kids came around. It was MMORPG.com that I had to hide from my kids, NOT Scarletblade.com. Now, they want to turn around and say it's "Shameful and Degrading"?

While I consider Scarlet Blade to be a sub par game (due to its game play elements), the eye candy is just amusing to me.   MMORPG accepting money to run ads for the game, is simply business.  Sure its a silly game, but its money is still green, and it pays the bills the same as money from better (and worse) games.

At its most fundamental this is about business and personal taste. If you don't like a game or if it "offends" you, then don't play it.

"...plenty of cover mechanics."

Someone's been playing too much Gears of War, since when does a Space Marine or an Ork take cover? Lost interest right there as it's an insult to think either are as weak and pathetic as the soldiers in Gears of War. Run out there with your bolter and chainsword for the Emperor or cower in shame behind cover soiling your armor. There should be an option to purge anyone who takes cover.

To take cover is to admit defeat and to admit defeat is to blaspheme against the Emperor!

Imperial Inquisitor mode: ON

I sense the taint of Khorne in your words Marine.  Your duty and honor are bound to the service of He who guides the Holy Imperium from His throne on distant, sacred Tera.  Your life is not yours to throw carelessly away.  To think otherwise is to tread the path of Heresy, that leads to the final Chaos.

The fact that you have to pay in order to play a Space Marine in a WH40k "free to play" MMO is somewhat hilarious.

Ork Boyz, seriously?

someone has to pay the bills. or no one gets to play the game. TANSTAAFL!!

Well stated.  But way too many people can never understand TANSTAAFL...  Many, *many* problems result from that.

Literally within 5 minutes of reaching level 60 (max atm) you can buy all the gear you need to raid.  I thought we weren't going pay to win Trion?  what happened there?  I know you can buy your PvP kit as well not sure what impact that will have, but I am sure it won't be all that great.

Why sell gear at all?  It is so unnecessary, sell mounts, pets, wardrobe and dimension (think housing) items and you will make heaps.  But selling start raiding armor and weapons, to me that is exactly what paytowin is.

Just my opinions, I am sure most will disagree, but this game, just broke for me.

To each their own. I hope you find a game you enjoy.  I see no problem with selling entry gear.  Not everyone has the advantage of being in a good guild, or having dealt with the wonders of the LFG system.

Blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the Skull Throne!!... ^^  From what I've seen, it looks like fun. Lets see how it plays.

Your comments about its aesthetics lacks objectivity, a characteristic required for good journalism. Your moral views are irrelevant to aesthetics, probably shaped and nurtured by some corporate religion. This is a meta-ethical moral relativists world we live in by the way

Morals are absolutely relevant to aesthetics if the aesthetics offend.

If you are "offended" by some aspect of a game, the best response is to not play it, and go play something else.

Do you think you could have used the words "degrading and shameful" a few more times?... ^^  Granted the game is silly, and as a MMO its the all too typical grind fest, but going on (and on...) about how "degrading" it is,  says more about your ideology, than it does about the game.

Lets not even get in to the PC aspects of this, but you could have simply pointed out how little the game brings to the table in terms of game play, its dynamic systems and all of the related *game* aspects, and that would have been more than sufficient, to warrant a low score.

You are obviously not part of the demographic that this game is targeted at.  As much as some might wish other wise, sex sells, especially to those this game is directed at.  But without all of the hysterical over reactions that its received, it would have rightly passed un noticed by the vast majority of players.

If i want see porn, i just go look for it on net.

Its like; "hey look here is big boob females, join our game, be cool!"

Not this topic again...<face palm>

If you are "offended" by a game, there is a simple response...Don't play it...

I almost totally ignored chat, from 1-60 on my GWF.  Since GWF's typically get kicked from dungeons, just for being GWF, I gave up on dungeons, and just soloed to 60.  Then I left the game.  If they add a class I have interest in, I might go back.  As for chat bans, just like anything else, it can be abused.  But I've seen games that are TOTALLY over run by gold spam bots (Raiderz is a glaring example) to the point that chat is useless.  If the Dev's can't be bothered to deal with these problems, this is the next best thing.
Not at all interested in PvP.  I'll pass on this one.  If they really are nerfing the cleric class, that just further demonstrates how out of touch the Dev's are.  I spent more than eight years putting up with the FOTM nonsense in WoW. I'm not in the mood to tolerate it in another game.

So much potential but pay to win:/

Its not pay to win. People who pay money do not get anything that gives an advantage over players who don't. I wish people would stop saying its pay to win.

Wrong!  Just look up Runes and how they work and see that without the cash shop you have a 1% chance using them.

The game is a major pay-to-win game, very typical of PW games.  I knew PW would ruin anything cryptic made.

I think you might be wrong on this one. I don't see these runes being pay-to-win. I associate pay to win with having a distinct advantage over another person. Considering in PVE be it dungeons or raiding it would equate to perhaps dealing more damage or taking more damage I don't see how you 'Win' over your fellow PvE fellows?

PvP is a bit different considering its a skill based system, but in honest once 60 you nuke everything very very quickly and it becomes more a 'team based' exercise rather than a solo PvP experience. There is a reason the PvP is designed as team based combat rather than a Free for all where the guy with the highest damage gets the most kills.

In addition, a key costs around 40k AD. A very easy sum to obtain. I've personally earned  around 2 million AD since my time on there. I should also state that I bought Zen as well mainly for the character slot and for 2 bags. I used the AD I gained from buying and selling and playing the Zen market game. I have bought around 15 keys and traded for 10 others and I have got myself an epic mount, around 7 of those stones that prevent rune failure, 2x companions and a host of other goodies.

So, I haven't been required to spend a penny on that stuff. Why are you going about it the hard way? You really don't have to.

ANY advantage constitutes as P2W, defend it all you want but any sort of advantage one receives over others will constitute as P2W.  Should the close calls be the winner who pays for "non-essential" upgrades?  I think not.  Not mention Hellloooo Health Stones and Rez Scrolls.  The cash shop is atrocious and the entire system reeks of company greed.

I am sorry, but no matter in what kind of strange parallel world you are living in, convenience items do NOT count for pay to win. And what you listed are exactly that - convenience items.

Instant full health pots, your dead but can rez yourself with a scroll, items that provide top notch enchants on your gear..... OHHHH that's certainly CONVENIENCE items..... NOT.

You expect the same benefits as someone who is actually spending money on the game?  Good luck with that... These games cost a LOT to create. I have no problem with the Dev's making a profit on the time and talent they have invested in their game.  In fact, I'd rather they make a good profit, so that there is more chance of the game continuing and perhaps being expanded.

I expect em to be truthful and not take back their word, the said specifically that all items will be convinience and vanity items only.

Cryptic needing to make money is not the issue, the issue at hand is the fanbois trumping the game as not P2W when the CS cannot be any more blatent that it most certainly is.

You've obviously not played any of the Asian games, in which you can purchase high level weapons, armor and combat mounts in their cash shops.  That IS P2W.  Neverwinters cash shop isn't even in the same league as that.  As for the rest, given what else I've stated about the game, I'd hardly be one of their fan kiddies.  But I do understand the reality of these games, and I'm more than willing to support the ones I enjoy.

HOAH Now we got over 800 signed onto the petition.

800 people wasted their time.

The "Save CoH" petition had 20,000 signatures and NCSoft still dismissed without a care.

Tabula Rasa will not be returning and thats probably for the best.

Knowing NCsoft, and the typical attitude over there, it wouldn't have mattered if it had been 200,000.  Tabula Rasa was caught in the political cross fire between the upper level suits at NCsoft, and RG.  NCsofts antics eventually ended up costing them $32 million.   I seriously doubt at this point, that their ego would allow them to back track.

Richard Garriott termination [edit]

Richard Garriott, lead developer of Tabula Rasa, sued NCSOFT for US$47 million in damages concerning his termination from the company. Garriott asserted in his suit that he was forced out of the company and was made to sell his 400,000 shares in NCSOFT's stock, losing him millions of dollars. In addition, he claimed that the company was guilty of fraud by forging his resignation announcement.[16] On July 30, 2010, a jury in a Texas federal court awarded him US$28 million in damages. NCSOFT appealed the ruling.[17] Garriott again prevailed on appeal and NCSOFT was required to pay an additional US$4 million, bringing the total damages awarded to Garriott to US$32 million.[18]

Well, I reached level 60 as GWF and thats enough for me. I like the combat system, but unless or until they do something about the dungeon system, and the kicking of GWF, simply because they are GWF, I see no point in continuing.   I ran a trickster rogue up to 16, but Its not really what I'm looking for. I have no interest in the other classes.  Its too bad, as I quite enojoyed the over all game.  As for all of the howling about "level playing field"  I really do not care about such things in a PvE game.
I played TR from the first day of launch, until the last day at server close.  It had its share of problems, but I really enjoyed aspects of the game.  I've yet to find another game that was nearly that much fun, in that regard.  I've been hoping that Firefall would pick that up, but it looks like Red5 is moving in a different direction now.  I'd REALLY like to see TR get another chance.
I quite enjoyed the article. I'm glad you are enjoying the game.  WoW for all its faults is still a good game up to level cap.  I started in late beta.  I have two 90's an 87 and six 85's.  But I suspect I'm pretty much done for now.  Last month, I logged in to work on my level 87 hunter, and just sat there. Nothing really motivated me to get to 88. So I logged off, and ended my subscription.
