Still going very strong for me after nearly three months. *confused*

That said, perhaps the game just isn't for you, and that's fine. I personally find this game to be very refreshing from everything else out on the market right now. My first character got deleted as her APs were all over the place, but I now have a lvl 24 melee that is currently working on her faction spin. I still find this game to have a lot that I've missed and now have an alt that I'm playing to hit areas I didn't do before. It's a shame you no longer enjoy the game. Perhaps one day, you'll come back and find a love for it. |

Most games, I'm hardcore. Race to end game and smell the roses on an alt, type of player. In FE, I have felt no desire to rush. I'm having a blast harvesting, crafting, questing and whacking mobs even if they wont give me XP (I've always loved a good one-shot!). So far, I have a lvl 24 melee, lvl 10 pistoleer and a little lvl 4 newb that I think will go rifle. I love that you get a free mount right away, like by level 2 if you do the extended tutorial, you'll have a horse. There are so many things in the game that make it enjoyable, at least for me. Sure, it's a bit choppy for me, but then, my computer blew on me and I'm playing on an older rig right now (about 4 years old - GT5622 with a GeForce x700, not good for todays MMOs). My personal opinion on the game is that it can easily satisfy casual and hardcore playstyles. There are some flaws in the game, but overall, I think it's very well done. The devs are also VERY active on the official forums and the communication is top notch. There is also constant GM presence in game and they are very helpful to new players. I have not needed their assistance at higher levels, but I'm sure they are still there for the players, I just don't have experience with that. Give the game a chance. 10 free trial with no CC info needed to try it is really nice. Also, for me, the free month didn't start until my free trial period would have ended, I was pretty impressed with that. |

When my husband and I came across this game and saw the 10 day free trial, we DL'd and tried the game out. I have never subbed to a game so quickly from a trial before! 24 hours after starting the trial, we bought the game. A little note here, the first billing notated on the account includes the remaining trial time and the free 30 days... I was amazed! How many other games keep the clock for your trial time and not begin the free time after a trial would end? Anyway, the Help channel can be rather busy and once you reach the cutoff level, chat can seem rather empty. However, I see people start up conversations all the time in Region, especially in Sector 2. Personally, I've enjoyed the peaceful game and not having spam all of the time while I'm playing. Character customization is limited in that you can only pick from a number of face styles, however there are piercings, tattoos and face paint to separate you from others. There are also body tattoos, limited selections, but still, it's fun (well, until the tattoos on my legs became very visible in a skirt I got as a reward LOL). Crafting is amazing! Sure, you can park yourself to craft in the appropriate facilities (Science building for science crafts, etc.) which will cut your craft time down, but it's not necessary! For me, I get my materials in my inventory and set a bunch of stuff to be crafted and off I go to quest or explore. The crafting also continues while you're offline, which is totally cool. Some items take many hours to craft (vehicles and their components) so you just set those before you log off for the night and in the morning, voila, your items are done. The only issue I had with the game was my first character's stats were totally messed up. At this point, there are no re-specs available so you have to know what you want to do with your character from pretty early on in the game. You gain APs through everything you do (harvesting, hunting, crafting, questing), but there is still a cap on how many you'll earn for your character. All in all, I would recommend this game to anyone and everyone. There is a FPS feel to it with the targeting, but I've quickly adapted and enjoy having to pay attention to kill stuff. No more sit in the back, target and just nuke away. You have to keep the mob in the crosshairs or you miss. Sure, not everyone will like that, but I'm not an FPS player, have always hated them, and yet I love this game. Well, my quick post got a bit longer than I had wanted, but I hope that what I wrote helps others decide to at least check out the trial. It's 10 days, you can go to level 10 and they don't even ask for your CC information unless you upgrade. Pretty nice arrangement IMO.
Edited to fix a typo - did I find them all? =) |

Though I completely understand the OPs reasoning for leaving the game, I have a hard time supporting them in it being that they only got to level 25. Not all players can dedicate large amounts of time to a game, but posting and only being part of the way there, not having seen many parts of the game makes it pointless. Aion has some neat features, but the cool stuff doesn't out weight the bad, IMO. Once I reached 50 and saw how much of a grind there was for either the PvE armor or the PvP armor, I lost all interest. I can understand grinding for great gear, but for me, Aion was way over the top. The game was originally made for the Korean market, where they pay by the hour to play. For that style of gameplay, the game is perfect. However, for people playing a set amount monthly, it is just too much. Sure, there are changes being made, they had some bonus XP weekends (bonus effected all aspects including crafting and harvesting). There have been improvements in the broker use, but it's still very limited (only list 10 items for sale). Personally, the drop rate annoyed the heck out of me, yes, I would like a little more reward for my time, but that's just me, I wont speak for others. No, I don't want the top gear right away, I enjoy working for something, but overall, Aion was just too extreme. |

What about Fallen Earth didn't you like? Coming from all of the fantasy games and normal leveling styles, the free trial in it has thus far been quite enjoyable for me. Perhaps posting what you didn't like about the games you've said no to would help the community assist you with recommendations. I can say, FE takes a bit of getting used to as far as movement and it has the typical sci-fi motions in it (the way characters move, bounce on the screen), but it seems to have a lot of crafting in it, you make just about everything you'd use. You get a free mount at about level 2, an arsenal of weapons and level off of everything you do. Their forums have the normal bunch of complainers but they all agree that the GM team is top notch and very responsive to the community, to me, this is a huge plus. Anyway, best of luck in your search for a new MMO to play. It is not an easy thing to do these days! |

Heck, I even went back to EQ, did the $20 for all of the expansions up to Underfoot and got 30 days free with it, but honestly, I just can't take the graphics or bleh combat. Aion was the latest disappointment in a string of bad MMO releases. I can deal with the grind and got to max level pretty quickly, but found soon that the game just lacks... anything. PvP is harder to find than they let on, PvE is just a mindless grind and crafting is ridiculously expensive and boring. Not to mention the bots and RMTers run rampid even after all of the bans. WAR was only fun in the beginning and with all of the changes to it lately, it seems to dead to bother checking out again. Of course, you can do their unlimited free play for only T1, but really, how long will that keep you entertained? The rest of the tiers are pointless. AoC had so many issues from the beginning, even the character customization was dull after creating a few toons. And beyond the beginning area of Tortage (I think that's what it was called), the game just fell flat. Raids were easily beaten once you figured them out and offered nothing more than headaches if you were organizing raids. Oh, and the PvP? Yeah, yawn-fest. EQII is ok, but it's in that "been there done that" catagory and I just can't see doing it again. I love the crafting in the game and the gameplay is ok, just don't like the "stupid" script encounters on raids. WoW was fun, but for me BC ruined it. I just can't say if I could really stomach going back to that game again. When I upgraded my Rogue's Lobotamizer with a green the first day going back, I almost cried. And then the faction grinds for the crafting on top of the dailies grind drove me right out of the game. And let's not forget, with all of the add-ons, the game practically plays for you now. DAoC, man that was a great game, but after going back to it again a few years ago, it just didn't have to same feel to it. The whole insta-level to 30 thing really ruined that game. FFXI as an American player, from the beginning, we were at a disadvantage, not saying we should always be number one, but it was really disappointing trying to level up and fit in with the Asian players who already held us in disgust. I think I still have my cheat sheet here somewhere so I could communicate with my Asian groupmates, at least with simple things: Thanks, good job, have a nice day, etc AO is free to play for the basic version, but really, why bother if you can't access what the majority are? And do I really want to pay for that game again? Spaceships, implants and total freedom on outfits was cool, but not really enough for me personally. Saga of Ryzom, really liked the changing world where seasons and weather effected mobs and harvests. The game was just so limited, I mean, what beautiful water, but I can't swim down to check out those coral reefs? *sigh* So, in summary, I feel the post MMO depression. It's the holidays and I'm sitting here with the family stuff done and bored to death. All of the games I look at just don't grab my attention or give me any feelings of "cool".
Edit: Downloaded Fallen Earth's trial and have been enjoying it. Takes a bit of getting used to, but still enjoyable. |

MMO with good community, teamwork required, low to nothing grind, non-cutesy or cr*p grpahics

A lot of good information here for you to review and I thought I would add my perspective on a few F2P games that I enjoyed, at least for a period of time. Perfect World International:
Runes of Magic:
Those are just a few things about those two F2P games that stand out. I personally do not play either one anymore as I'm more of a P2P type of gamer. |

What's the ratio of Fans vs Haters on this particular forum?
General Discussion « Aion 11/06/09 9:39:46 AM
This is a tough question really given that unhappy players are more likely to post over and over again that the game sucks or whatever other negative things they can. You also have the extreme fan boys who light fires with their posts against the haters. There are still issues with the game, but there are some really great things in this game as well. Each person has their own opinion and it is important that you take that into account when reading what people post. |

There is a post on AionSource.com regarding the reporting of bot. Sure, we have a feature in game called /AutoReportHunting, but apparently, the only way to really get a bot on the list is to submit a ticket through the official Aion site. Apparently, one an official ticket is made, you may be contacted by a GM regarding the issue and from there, a friendly one will tell you to email the bot names to them directly. Now, regarding the comments about NCSoft making money from the bots or RMT companies, the majority of those accounts are being played with stolen CC's or accounts (people who were dumb enough to go to one of the links in regular chat promising gifts from GMs) that were keylogged. NCSoft has a real problem on their hands and better communication with the community regarding properly effective reporting methods would be a step in the right direction. They have already cut down on the gold spam in chat, though some creative spammers have found ways around it, for the most part it has been dealt with nicely. If you're just now starting this game, be aware that there are bot issues and if you want to help improve the game, all players need to work together to report bots. |
|
|
Yet you'll still have to fight the bots to kill the mobs needed for quests. Until the bot issue is under control, this does very little to help things along. |

Friendly reminder, if you plan to cancel, do so before 29th

Some people's subscriptions renewed on 10/22, give a day or two. Apparently, my account wasn't one of them, but I had already given in that I would pay for the first billing to give them time to fix some things before leaving. The bots are completely out of control and until that issue is fixed, this will be the only payment they receive for my account or my husband's. It's quite a disappointment to see the status on bots. For those who truly enjoy the game and can tolerate them, best of luck to you. I don't ever like to see games fail, but it is a reality of this industry. |

Actually, Patriot, I've played a few MMOs with Dryden23. I know for a fact he spent real money on the game. The gold bought upgrade items are only good to +2 an item. Any further than that, you're looking at spending money on diamonds (or getting lucky and finding them at a decent price on the AH). Basically, the failure rate on said items is terrible. This goes for both types you buy. If you personally have had great luck with the upgrade items, congratulations. If you have had luck like me or many others that I know, you would be irritated and disappointed.
With your constant RL references... if you as a paying customer went into a store and said "Hey, I really don't like how your customer service department is handling things. Would you look into it and see if there's some room for improvement?", and then said company kicked you out of their store, how would you react? |

This game has some potential. As of right now, when you reach max level (currently level 50), it's pretty boring. Sure, there are some different instances you can do, but there are no formal raids other than the Ant Queen. To have really good gear, you need to use the cash shop of spend a lot of gold in game to buy diamonds to use in the cash shop. Now, they have also added some of the upgrading items to the token shop, but at their prices, you're looking at almost two weeks of daily quests in order to afford one Purified Fusion Stone.
If you want to play this game for free, it will take a lot of time to obtain items to improve your character. If you're willing to spend the cash, you can get your character geared a bit faster. To build your character, you'll need to find stats which come from lucky drops in instances and if you review the RoM forums, you'll see the chance to get good stats from drops is pretty low.
Enjoy the game as best you can. If you do decide to spend money on it, be frugal and watch for sales before buying. |

There's an applicable adage from business that fits here which is, "You get what you pay for." If you paid no real money then what are you complaining about? The company isn't obligated to serve you since you're not, by definition, a customer. A customer spends real money and a company makes every effort to ensure their customers are valued. On a company forum, the company is the one that sets what is acceptable or not to their corporate image. If negative comments aren't constructive and serve to fuel a flame war then I'd expect them to lock the threads. Your opinion about the contents of said threads is entirely subjective and not shared by everyone which makes them subjective. Also, you do not have the right to expression on private property. The right is only applicable when you are on your own property, public, or government property in the United States. If someone was in my house talking like I've seen some of the flame threads on Frogster's forum you can bet your bottom dollar someone is going to be kicked out. I can guarantee you it won't be me.
Considering many people buy diamonds with real money in order to buy the upgrade items, they are paying customers. So, in essence, your first statement holds no merit. Regarding the moderation on forums, the stress level of the customers has risen over time to the point of being hostile due to the lack of any real communication from the company. RoM's forums are their property, however, they have given registered members access to these forums to express their views. Even when solid suggestions are given, many times, the threads are closed and get burried. So, from your stand point, how are the paying customers supposed to let the company know that there are issues? |

Actually, it is up to us as customers for these gaming companies. If people keep letting the companies act this way, we will never see an improvement in the industry. It is important that players stick to their guns and let the companies know that we are sick of being treated like trash and our pocket books will be the way to show them. The whole point of this thread was to say "look out, no matter what you do, they don't care. If you want to play a game that treats you that way, you'll want to stay away from it." Can I name a game with great customer service? Not really. And why can't we find a company that knows how to release a solid product and provide decent customer support? Well, because we let them get away with it. |

Originally posted by l-louse House, you make some very valid points here. Unfortunately, attempting to post constructive feedback that touches on the GMs comes with warnings and potentially bans. Also, the majority of suggestions made by the players receives very little attention or at most a "we're looking into it" response. RoM has some great potential. It is very Cash Shop dependent and with a level increase planned in the Fall of '09, spending money now to upgrade your character is not a wise decision. Some points to look at when considering playing this game, either buying diamonds or not: *Upgrading items in the CS and Token Shop have a large failure rate, this process costs unlucky players a lot of time or money in diamonds. *Mounts and all other Cash/Token Shop items are character bound. *Diamonds purchased are on a 30 day waiting period which means you may use them for your own character, but there is no gifting of items from the CS or abiltiy to use them on the AH. *Game updates are slow to come and even when things are changed, notification of said changes are very late in being provided to the players. |

And you sound like a troll. Did you read the post that was initially posted? Did you read the rule that was violated? Do you not see that there is a severe issue with regards to customer service? Unless you play the game and have encountered the GMs, you have no reason to call another person a whiner. You would be better suited to comment on the relevance of the treatment to a games customers. Better yet, each patch in the game creates more errors and lag than they can find. Patch notes are never up sooner than 3 hours AFTER the servers come back up. Many bandaids have been applied to help stop gold spammers: You can't type in public chats more than once every 10 seconds. Are those examples on top of the ridiculous forum warning enough to justify warning people away from Runes of Magic? |

FYI: Rule 20 that apparently was broken is this: 20. Post constructively. After reading the post quoted above, I see no rules being broken according to the rule stated. Be warned that the GMs in this game are very power hungry and have a complete disregard for paying and non-paying customers. |

That proves my point if you actually work on PQ's you can get better rewards than you can from a renown vendor, simply because you have the chance to get blue and purple items. Other than better armor and resistance the stats aren't a whole scale off from most green drops you get like they are in WoW.
The gear from Renown Vendors is good. However, for RvR, the gear there has more resists for those types of encounters. After this weekend, I actually carried my RvR gear and my PvE gear and would switch it out depending on what I was doing. I got owned continuously until I found out about the gear that I could buy at the Keep. Once I had that gear on, I took a lot less damage and had a ton of fun. BTW, funniest thing is the message in the resurrection box "You have died! Don't worry, it's part of the game!" (something along those lines). I thought that was great and smiled at each death. Not to mention, you actually get a title from dying... Anyway, there is no reason to complain about gear. I had a blast earning different pieces of gear from the PQs and RvR. If I was being overpowered in RvR, I'd simply back off and use a new tactic. It isn't just gear that makes a character great, it's the player running it. Focus more on your playstyle, maybe you just need to change it up a bit. Oh, and get that gear when you hit the required ranks (it looks nice too!). |

Preview Weekend Over : Are you buying the game ?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 8/25/08 11:17:21 AM
Yes, I will be playing the retail version of WAR. Admittedly, when I first logged on, the graphics put me off. I played for about an hour disecting every little thing I could about what I thought was wrong with the game. Later, I logged in again and pretty soon, the graphics didn't phase me at all. Then, the global cooldowns on skills started to not be an issue either. It became an interesting game to play. Never was I out of stuff to do. If I didn't feel like questing, I'd take part in a public quest. If I wanted something more to do, I'd head to an RvR area and have some fun. My time in the game was greatly enjoyed and time flew because of it. I foresee myself enjoying WAR for a long time. If you missed out on the preview weekend, I'm sorry. It was a great chance to get in and check things out. I hope to see many playing at release! |
