I feel that it is the GW2 fanbois that are afraid that SWTOR will be more successful. I for one WAS looking forward to playing them both, but I wouldn't touch that game now since I know what the community is going to be like. I think GW2 will be a good game, but I will never know now...

I am not hating the game, I am hating the player.

No GW2 fan would see SWTOR as a threat cause GW2 is B2P with no release window. As far as anyone knows, GW2 might not come out till next December long after the sub plummet this game will have. Even if the subs remain pretty decent, the fact that GW2 is B2P gives a reason for people to still buy it even if they are playing a P2P game cause they can play both without having to pay more a month.

Like you pointing that out is helping one bit either ...

Ahh, so you agree... Difference is I'm trying to help the OP, not feeding trolls.

I never said that I was helping, but I also don't think you are helping either. Unless you work at EA or Bioware, there isn't much you can do other then just make the guy feel better.

I think that the MMO genre is splitting up into 2 new branches right now. One with TOR that is using a lot of instances and are kinda somewhere in between MMORPGs and CORPGs, and another one with GW2 that instead try to use scaling to bring out massive non instanced battles.

That does not mean that one of those things are better than the others, just different.

I can actually see myself play both those games, they offer different aspects of a MMO but as long as they offer it good it is all fine. :)

10 thumbs up for that, coudln't agree more!

I feel it's more like people are tired of riding the same roller costers that SWTOR offers, while SWTOR makes the roller coaster more appealing then others, it's still the same ride. Some want to try some other kind of rides in the themepark and hoping that GW2 offers a different kind of ride that doesn't feel like the same roller coster. In the end it may just be another roller coaster but as long as it feel like a different kind of ride then it's worth riding. That's probably the same reasoning why people are interested in ArcheAge, cause it seems to offer a different type of roller coaster ride and that's what we want.

Sandbox is dead, quit acting like a new game is going to be one cause it isn't.

Yes, cause it's impossible for someone to care about someone other then themselves. Srsly, go get some friends.

Pretty good. I wonder how many people bought the game though. I expected that number to be much, much higher.

How is this good?

With all the hype and it being a bioware game I find the number a bit of a joke. Still enjoying my time in tor but honestly I can't see myself staying here longer than a month maybe two to level a char on each side, and despite all the exitement in the first week and a half it seems to be the consensus in my guild as well.

Just LoL.

1).  Is over 1 mill of subs till the 20 of dec, where most of the people didnt put a subscription until after the 22th of dec, and is growing every single day.

2). swtor is the most successful launch in the MMO history.

3). haters gonna hate.

Launch success is meaningless if the game doesn't hold the subs.

No it's not THAT bad, but there's a few things, seems like I'm on railroad tracks when levelling up and maps seems very confined and each class has their own zone to start in. Most other MMO games let you roam to other zones/planets. As far as PvP goes, people are saying it's balanced at 50, not so thrilled about having to wait til I reach that level to do some.

Overall it'll last me a while, I'm definitely not going to play this game 12 months straight though.

I really think the game could have been a lot better with just a few relatively minor change.  Here is what I would like to see in patches and future expansions (preferable sooner than later):

  • Expanding the Racial diversity - allowing players to play some of the NPC races already in the game (ie like the Cathar in the trooper Story)
  • BH, Smug, Agent and Trooper available to both factions
  • Increased Reputation system tied to Morality Bar (make Light/Dark have some more substance to it)
  • Space game to more a Rogue Squadron/leader horizontal free flight
  • Ground and SwoopBike content (using the old space mechanic)
  • Open up the Worlds, so players do not have to follow the same path with their Trooper, that they did with their smuggler.
  • future VO Cinematics to have better acting  (play more like something out of clone wars, with more attention to animation detail).

This is in addiiton to some of the stuff BW already said they are working on.

I do not believe BW will be able to churn out content fast enough, to keep the VO's fresh and exciting.   Imo, the VO's will become stale quickly (which is why people are starting to skip them), which then turns attention on the rest of the game.

I'll buy when I can play an Ewok  - Sith Warrior

They probably have a buffer with content that is already finished and held it back. The real problem is that it will not last. It will however give them some breathing room.

So, they're basicly pulling an on disc DLC move ... well, it is EA, so it shouldn't be a shock.

Do you know anything about economics? If SWTOR fails it will hurt the entire MMO market. Themepark and Sandbox types

My theory is if TOR fails it solidifies WoW fans once and for all to the point they never try anything else. Blizzard takes the oppurtunity to start dropping cash shop items left and right. Only reason they changed that tune in 2011 is because Rift/F2p games/ LoL/ and TOR hype completely gut'd 1.7 million players.

It would stagnant the genre for sure. Although if ArenaNET is actually serious and not going to be useless with GW2 they can change things. People do realize if Guild Wars was any good and ungodly profittable the payment model would have been taken up years ago. 7million sold, but how many people actually play?

Also yeah I have to agree G4tv is as crooked as it gets with reviews and they are just pandering for clicks on their website

TOR failing / underperforming would probably push the F2P / Freemium movement since companies know its profitable and has less risk in comparison to P2P.

Im not gong anywhere in a month and judging from informal polls on the 3 servers ive played on most people in game are having a blast.

So as for people just dropping in waves dont count on it.

Its only been officially released for 2 days. Forgive me if I feel that opinions are biased since there is still 28 more days before that decision needs to be made and a lot of opinions can change in that amount of time.

I give it 90-120 days before it starts to really take a nose dive. In all actuallity people do stay for atleast 1 or 2 month subed up.  The third months sub retention rate is where they really dry up for these type of games. There just isnt the content there to last longer.

True, but first month drop off is still usually big in MMOs and I am sure it will be noticed if it happens on here. 3rd month is usually when it notice it's down and out.

Can someone explain why it is a bad thing to have a successful themepark MMO with an awesome launch?  If anything this game will attract more potential gamers, which means more money for new innovative sandbox mmos among others.  So what if this wasn't the game to satisfy everyone - this game is what keeps the genre alive.  You think developers are real keen to dump money into an mmo project given the catastrophic failures of the recent past?  SWTOR keeps this thing going for the majority of us who don't want to buy the next imported asian grindfest, because up until now it was starting to look like another lackluster year.

If I had to guess a possible concern then it would be that people don't want another 5 years of WoW clones now with VOs cause companies will think that's all they need to do to have a successful MMO.

wont be long before those that have put tor down from day 1 start saying g4 like ten ton hammer and pokkett were paid for there postive opinions

while obscure sites like sandboxer.org or ihatemmos.com are used the the only unbiased reviews since they bash tor.

u know its coming.

Or we could just wait for the free month to pass and see the people playing the game drop like a bag of rocks. Either or, you know it's coming. =P

I voted 61 - 70 cause I feel this game deserves a 70. It's a basic themepark MMO which gives it a C rating IMO. Adding voice acting would give it a few extra points but they are removed cause it lacks common features found in normal MMOs now a days. People who give this game a perfect score or anything over 90 is not giving a real opinion of it based on an MMO. They are only basing it on the VOs which is not a feature that will help it's life span.

I knew it wouldnt be a great game since its based off Star Wars and such but is the gameplay and PvP really as bad as people make it out to be?

Most of the haters are either:

a) Disgruntled sandboxers who dont have a AAA sandbox to play so they come here and trash themepark MMOs instead.

b) Ex-SWG players who are annoyed their game was ruined / shut down.

c) People who dont like Star Wars / Sci Fi and just want to stop people from leaving the current games.

I havent seen a single intelligent arguement against SWTOR except from people who just hate themeparks. And everybody knew that this game wasnt going to be a sandbox from day one, they just need to move on.

Combat in SWTOR is easily more fun and balanced than what youll find in WoW, Rift, Everquest 2 or LOTRO. Also the later worlds (Taris onwards) are massive, and the difficulty ramps up after level 30.

TLDR - If you like themepark and dont have some deep rooted hatred for Star Wars then youll like the game. If you dont like themepark or sci fi, you wont like the game.

I have clearly stated quite a few times the problems that SWTOR has but it gets lumped in with other posts as 'troll'  or 'hater' posts. Anyone who supports SWTOR isn't looking for an actual discussion on SWTOR's faults that make it not worth its cost. So don't act like the people who dislike the game don't actually have a reason for their opinion. You're just not actually looking for it.

SWTOR fans are attacking the compitition directly now.

If the game is good, I'll still buy it, then treat it like Skyrim and play it as open world adventure with nice combat system for a month.

Whats the big deal?

Oh this is the internet.

Never said the game was good. Even so, it's not worth full box price + sub fee. That is my point which has nothing to do with being on the internet. =P

Technically it's 0. Subs really wont start till Jan. 20th.

What you are seeing is a vocal minority that is absolute in its intention to proclaim innovation as the industry's savior. This is unavoidable and occurs in literally every single genre. What these proclaimers fail to observe, however, is that the most enjoyed and successful games do not focus on being innovative, they focus on being fun. Just take a look at the industry's most renowned titles: Call of Duty, Halo, Starcraft, Diablo, World of Warcraft, etc. Change for the sake of change is unnecessary.

Each one of those games you listed came out in times when features or gameplay they had did make them stand out when they were first released. What feature / gameplay element does SWTOR that makes it stand out? Voice Overs? Not enough for it to last for more then a month.

Um....... What???? lololololol what features make mw3, halo 3, starcraft 2, WoW to be considered innovative at the time of their releases?

You obviously didnt read what I put then. "When they were first released" as for WoW, it pioneered the solo MMO gameplay which is now being imitated by every new MMO since. So yeah. Maybe instead of acting like 4chan reject, maybe you should actually learn what made these games stand out to begin with that allowed them to get mediocre sequals/ripoffs.
