Would you play a game being unable to create alts?
General Discussion « Earthrise 11/12/09 11:24:33 AM
I wouldnt mind at all, I normally do play only one character. I put all my effort into learning the best way to play that character's class and continually improve that one character. Gives you a real edge knowing your character so well when it comes to PvP, also in a group you know your role a lot better. Just from my experience, people that focus more on one character tend to be better at playing than someone with a maxed out character and several alts. |

*edit* I tried getting my money back from NCSoft for my inactive paid for month and they denied it. Assholes really haha |

The last trial I remember playing I was training skills for engineering. From what I understood mining was one of the major aspects to that track early on. I was in a non NPC corp that was for noobs like myself so they were very helpful from what I experienced.
Metalhead, could you tell me how long youve been playing EVE? How hard is it for a new player to be well enough off to not worry about the advantages a vet has? |

Originally posted by Czargio I stopped reading there. Did you actually play EVE?
Yeah, I mean I did what I could in the 14 day trials. By actually playing you mean not logging in, setting up some skill to train, then logging out right? I did do that before I went to school a couple times but as far as Im aware I did actually play it. The majority of my time was spent mining and doing what I could to upgrade my ship and mods. |

Originally posted by Gabby-air Yeah, Im going to check it out before I give my final verdict. I prefer a game with more action than click and let happen. However, I just prefer a good game than one that fulfills my smaller wishes so I leave no stone unturned. Thanks again for the info man
Try updating one patch at a time rather than jumping the in between. Also, if you rather this: updated to 1.0001 and download the Oblivion Lost mod. Its an outstanding mod that keeps all the story together but adds a bit more realism and stuff that was taken out of the final version. |

Probably right, now that you mention it I doubt its free. But as for actual game play, does it feel like click this and watch or is it more intereactive?
Did you buy from D2D when they were having that sale? Which patch did you use? |

Really? Thats a shame, it could be a lot of fun since there isnt much other end game content. Im going to download the trial for Ryzom, sounds like they made a lot of improvements. I loved the A-Life engine STALKER uses, actually challenges you. How is the gameplay all around though? Does it feel like another MMO (click this attack, watch it happen, follow with this attack, do again)? I havent played it in a few years so I dont quite remember. I do remember you can use guns correct? Is it lock-on or free aim?
As for your techincal issue: install the latest patch and it should work |

Well Ive got two months left on Aion so Im going to keep my eye on Fallen Earth. There can still be diversity in what other skills people choose to upgrade right? I mean, not everyone is going to be Serious Sam or Duke Nukem. I was actually looking into what skills Id upgrade to become a sniper type. How far are you into the game? Its not unusual for people to be able to make the same items, look at the standard MMOs. This game wasnt created to be like a sandbox game from what I understand, it just had some similar elements to that of one. Im not trying to bash you so dont take it like that, just saying really. Have you been able to try out the PvP? Also, if you like sandbox, you would love EVE. Its really a really good sandbox MMO without a doubt. Just not what I was looking for. |

Originally posted by Zhauric Its been out for I believe a year in Korea. Taking into consideration that their use to the "grinding" MMOs Im not seeing any real improvements any time soon. However, I hope to be proved wrong. Im very anxious to see what is on the next patch rather than a few big fixes |

I really like the atmosphere Fallen Earth offers. Have you ever played or heard of a game called S.T.A.L.K.E.R. -Shadow Of Chernobyl? Or its prequel Clear Sky? Well, if you hadnt I ask you to check them out. That is my favourite PC game of all time and I always wanted an MMO that resembled its harsh reality as it is very realistic when you take into consideration the setting. Materials are very limited and you have to find anything that you want, the shop inventories are limited. This is why Fallen Earth has appealed to me so much. What about the six factions and PvP in Fallen Earth? How is that panning out? Seemed like a great idea from my reading but any insight on the ingame aspect of it? Ill definitely download and give Ryzom another go, it was promising even when it felt like it was going to crumble.
Thanks again for the info man, much appreciated. |

Originally posted by holonist I said rarely ever die, I died a lot 10-15. Once I hit 16 I got better at kiting and avoided death a lot better. Thats not to say I havent died but I very rarely do. Also, 1% is not a significant amount so its easy to go unnoticed.
Perhaps my problem is Im PAYING to grind when I could easily get almost the same, not nearly as well polished, experience in some F2P MMO.

It is well rounded, no doubt, just feels like another MMO to me. |

SO now change of story and number??
Basically, you are into #1 and #2. The reason is you can't find quests because there is no Quest mark on the map, so you can't find them. Since you are a ranger, it's harder for ranger to level up at lower level and they die easily, so I would say you lost a lot of xp even you have done so many quests but loss of xp prevent you from leveling up. so vicious cycle is You CAN NOT level, therefore you can NOT get new quests, then No new quests, you can NOT level.
Teco, you trying to be a doche? I dont see how its relevent, fact is Ive done the lot of qests
Im not in either, Im just a casual player with better things to do. I rarely ever die and I do whatever quests I can find. Plus you dont lose XP when you die cause you can just get your "soul healed" |

Then you are lying. LOL because Mortheim level ranges are 20-40, so you are only early 20s, there is no way you can find that many quests to do in Mortheim. Most of peopel would go to Brusthonin to do part of lvl 20s quests. Well Ive also got better things to do than count my quest, I was also just throwing a number out there without actually taking into consideration what numbers youve posted. Originally posted by teco221 Across Algard and Mortheim, about 300 give or take a few. Thats also not counting the repeatable coin quests, which Ive done about 10-15 of each
Also, if you think about it, thats obviously not enough quests because the rewards are utter crap |

but Im not going to get into ANY of this with you because its pointless.. you don't like the game, that's fine... but don't make Aion out to be something that it's not. You guys make me laugh... if you can't level cap in a month as a CASUAL player, then its a grind. Please... I remember vanilla WoW took me months to level up and no one said a thing... why? Because people LIKED the game. The same way people LIKE Aion.
In short, you don't really know what your talking about - but your entitled to your opinion. If you don't like Aion, dont' play... its really that simple That all being said, youre right and I respect that. Im not normally one to play through an MMO just to get the end game. I enjoy leveling up, getting new stuff, new skills, etc. I played WoW before the expansions (never played the expansions) and enjoyed it as well. It didnt feel like a grind, then again I was 14 at the time so it didnt really matter to me. Im a very casual player, usually only play maybe an hour or two a day when Ive got time. My Xfire game times are misleading because Ill leave it running when Im not even playing which goes for all games on there. It took me two months to reach level 50 in TR which I didnt have a problem with at all, that game was purely fun to me. Once my two months runs up, I dont plan on playing it. Figured I might as well play it since Ive paid for the month xD |

Originally posted by teco221 THAT is the dumbest argument ever. People will bring that up in game and its just one of the dumbest things Ive ever seen. In a GOOD and WELL POLISHED MMO grinding isnt something you HAVE to do, its something you choose to do in order to get a certain drop, money, etc. People dont consider leveling grinding if there are an abundance of quests available. In Aion, you dont have a choice, your a slave of your own time and money. Theres people that are already level 42 or so. These people are the ones that have no life, probably go to college and spend the rest of their hours in their dorm clicking mindlessly away. These are the people that will tell you Aion is the best MMO ever. A hashly bias opinion since they find ecstasy in clicking their lives into oblivion. I came from Tabula Rasa, only reason Ive played this game is cos it was free. Tabula Rasa was, without a doubt, a great game. It just lacked content leaking from it's ass and well constructed PvP. However, leveling in that game was a LOT of fun, the community was absolutely awesome, and there was still enough content to keep you going. It was, regardless of what people say (because 90% of those who bash it never even did a trial), a well put together game; simply great. Aion: grind. Thats all I see in this game. People want good gameplay, something fresh that doesnt feel like a second job. Something they want to do rather than deal with the frustrations of grinding their brains out and investing hours upon hours into a single level. I heard, that when one gets to level 45, there are absolutely no quests and that person will have to grind for 38 hours (I think) just to get to level 46. That my friend is bull shit. Another thing is that Ive found people dont call it grinding unless they dont enjoy it. Which, Ive yet to find someone who actually enjoys grinding. Not only that but the community of Aion is mostly people with their heads up their ass. Now I said mostly because not nearly everyone is like that, there are few players who are acutally helpful without being a douche about it.
Im a level 23 Asmo Ranger and wish I didnt spend $15 on this game |

Honestly? There isnt much I like about this game, its a grinder through and through. The crafting system is nice and (if you ever get there) end game armor system is neat. Other than that, after my free + paid for month is up Im going to switch to Fallen Earth. Aion is just another MMO that lacks originality which is what I was expecting from a game with so much hype, thank God it was free |
