If MTs are for RP stuff etc, then I am ok with it.  Otherwise I will not be getting this game.  Been waiting a damn long time to get the game but MTs will cause me not to get it if done for the wrong reasons.

Damn

No, it actually scans the pc you use.

That's not good for me, my 8800GTX was sent off to get a new one.  It went bad and so BFG was replacing it.  Right now I have a crappy 8600GT in its place.  I have a dxdiag from a few weeks back but I guess it will scan with my crappy card in.

If you watched the 4 part video of the Dev walkthrough, then you would understand that yes this is massive and it is an MMO in a normal sense with extra elements such as a FLASHPOINT.

Too many ppl are assuming that the whole game is like the flashpoint where the Sith and Bounty Hunter were teamed up in.  They forget about the cave where the Sith had to kill the creatures which was shown in the dev walkthrough and they forget about the smuggler hiding and shooting.  Those two scenes were just like any other MMO.

"Oh really?  Then where were all the other people running around?"

It was a dev walkthrough, which means no one else was playing.

If you don't understand what a FLASHPOINT is, then consider this.  From what I can tell, and no I haven't played the game so I don't know for sure, the flashpoint is a like an instance or a dungeon if you will.  In other words, your character along with another or by yourself can go into this flashpoint area and do the mission.  No one else will be in there because it is instanced to you and your group.  Just like World of Warcraft's Onyx Lair or something similar.

The closest think to compare a flashpoint to would be a mission in City of Heroes.  You open a door and you are now in your own mission or with a group in your own mission.

I would assume that the flashpoints are not for every quest/mission but are for special occasions that call for a story element.

I'm a few days into the trial and playing on the Set server.  The game is fine but I have yet to speak to another player.  Yeah they are around but I have yet to get anyone to say a single word to me.  Is everyone talking in global channels that I can't access yet or are AoC players really this antisocial? :-)

Trial accounts cannot talk in Global chat.  Most have trial chat turned off because most of us thought they discontinued the trial.

I could be wrong but the picture i see here is Funcom using the region to fund free training,to basically get free employees.I guess they figure this will more than offset the leasing cost.I don't think they have bought land and built anything,it sounds like everything is already in place, they are just cashing in on incentives, free employees.

The Canadian Govt. usually has incentives for placing education students and unemployed into the work force,i think this is probably what is going on.There is usually new incentives also for first time businesses, this would also be the case for Funcom.I can see a 2 year lease, milk the system then close it down, but maybe i'm wrong,we'll see.

You obviously have no idea how the video game business works.

Was the player housing ever confirmed?

 yes

The adventure I will go on in this game has me excited.

I only hope there is End Game content as I love to raid.  PvP is a must and I am sure there will be plenty of that!

Dark Temps are great at multiple mob tanking but for the most part it is a guardian who is the standard tank.  However, with the Frenzy/Defense stances, Guardians can also dole out a lot of dps.

I enjoy Sanctum much more.  I enjoy AoC and play as much as my time allows (work, kids, college) but Black Castle is the one instance that I am not fond of.

And because the poster was trolling by opening many threads just to state his disdain for the game.

Before the 4 thread were closed started by this person, another 3 were closed a day or two before.  Have some common sense.  Of course your hatred for this game probably clouds your common sense.

Aion is a good solid game (unlike WAR/AoC)

I don't know about WAR, havent played it since Feb, but AoC is a good solid game.  If you played AoC in the past few months then I will accept that as your opinion.  If not, you are misinformed, just like most of the AoC haters.

AoC failed?  OMG ...

I logged into AoC today, the servers were still up. There was still a whole load of people at the traders, I was still constantly running into other players.

Hmmm, I dont get it, AoC seems to be doing fine to me.

AoC is a failure if you compare it to game as successful as Aion. Aion is the most polished and stable MMO about to be released in the West this century, period. Add in the dynamic gameplay and the large scale smooth PvP  you have 3.5mill+ subs in Aisa already. Aion could potentially drive the final nail into AoC and WAR's coffin, this isn't specualtion its a fact - a game can only survive for so long with only ~3 servers.

Comparing it to Aion, does not make AoC a failure.  What would make it a failure would be that it is closed like Auto Assault, Hellgate London, and Tabula Rasa.  If there had been no hype over AoC, I am sure the number of subscribers would be about the same, maybe less because less people tried it.  But because it was so hyped and then released so unfinished, they went from 800k to about 100k.  That makes AoC look bad when in fact 100k is a good number for an MMO.

The reason most think the measure of success has to be higher is because of the huge success of WoW.  Since this past Spring, AoC has been gaining numbers and the game has been getting more and more fun.  AoC is not a failure no matter how you try to compare it to another game.  It is successful and could be around for many years.

This drive to level and the viewing of quests as nothing more than xp is a large part of what is wrong with the MMO community today. People like you are a part of the problem. It is views like this that result in games like Freerealms, where lore and story have been completely disposed of.

I read through the text of my quests every day. I take the time to enjoy the plot lines and back story. More important, I could not care less about how fast I level. I play for fun, and to enjoy the journey, not race to the end.

I enjoy the quests the first time through, however once I am on an alt, it gets repetitive and I rather get the new character to higher level to do the higher dungeons.

Stradden's type of gameplay is not THE problem with MMOs.  How does it affect you when he rather get through the leveling process quickly?  Why does that create a problem?  It is his way of playing and it doesnt change anything that you do?

Enjoy your questing and dont worry about those who rather reach end game fast.

As for using Questhelper in WoW, I dont see a problem with it.  In fact, in Age of Conan, a system similiar to Questhelper is already in place.  This allows those who enjoy the questing to do as they please, and those that want to get it over with to get to the "X" and complete the quest.

AoC did not crash and burn.  You lost all credibilty with that.

It's a pretty good list, but now let's see a counter-article about the five companies that should NOT make an MMORPG.

My top 5.

5. Company that takes the safe route (level based, quest hub to quest hub with an "end-game")

4. Company that takes the safe route (level based, quest hub to quest hub with an "end-game")

3. Company that takes the safe route (level based, quest hub to quest hub with an "end-game")

2. Funcom

1. Sony Online Entertainment

Too bad you are way wrong with #2

Ever heard of Anarchy Online?  And "GASP" Age of Conan is actually a fun MMO.

I'll be damned if I go thru another 1.  I should have known when it took 2 hours to download the patch.  Everything CHANGED, expertise, combat, dps, equipment, armor rating, etc, etc, etc, right on down the line.  This game wasn't even as good as SWG was in the befores.

Someday, someone, is going to get my gameing dollars again but it sure will not be SOE or Funcom.

Edit:  and yeah, AoC.  My advise, avoid it like the plague.

I was one of those that was playing SWG when the NGE suddenly changed everything I loved about the game.

patch 1.05 is NOTHING like the NGE, and on top of that, patch 1.05 is a good thing.

You are way misguided.

I went to AoC and I am so glad I did.  Warhammer = bore

Dana is awesome. Everything she writes is smart and entertaining.

All the other columnists suck, and I hope they get fired soon.

First, Dana is a guy.

Second, Sanya wrote this, not Dana.

Dana is one of those other columnists/employee of that site that I assume you hope gets fired ;)

ROFL!!!
