As players I don't see much beyond word of mouth that we can do, the next step needs to be taken by SoE in the form of advertising and trial accounts.

Don't underestimate the power of word of mouth though, it is a very powerful tool.

Melee healers:     Strong vs 6 classes, weak vs 6 classes

Ranged healers:  Strong vs 6 classes, weak vs 6 classes

There were 3 classifications, not two, and the balancing was consistant between the general types. The only imbalance being that there are more ranged healers than melee healers.

Also, you will only be opposed to 12 classes, not the 18 you are claiming for melee dps. 4 of those fall under the even catagory, 3 under strong vs, 5 under weak vs.

Those numbers are reversed for melee dps, with the effect that people taking ranged are still making the trade off of being strong vs one archtype at the expense of being weak vs another. Those taking melee dps so they can take advantage of the fact that there are more ranged healers than melee healers are probably going to the same ones that scream when they get owned by tanks.

In either case, a well constructed and played group is going to own.

I would say WoW over EQ2   65/35 %, don't get me wrong EQ2 is a great game.

WoW has much better maps. EQ2 you have to search the internet very hard and use multiple sites to understand the world.

WoW has better world graphics, and much more lush. however EQ2's latest expansion pack equals WoW's graphics, but thats only a new 1-20 area.

WoW has most  servers full, and very easy to find groups. EQ2 you must be very social and sometimes pushy to get the most from it. EQ2 could be dead during the day, and does not pick up until late evening, if you live on the east coast.

I'm having a lot of fun with EQ2 and can squeeze the fun from it using the knowledge from other games, but you must squeeze and thats the best way I can put it !

EQ interface, download the EQ2 map program.

My vote would be for Vanguard though.

Nurgle, not only can I take a hit better than you, but no one is going to want to stand close enough to hit me in the first place

As a bonus, Nurgle does not restrict his followers in the manner of Khorne

I couldn't have said it better myself.

While graphics are important for making a good first impression, good gameplay is what is going to keep players engaged.

I personally enjoyed Enchanted Lands more than Zek, but you should try both.

Saying WoW and LOTRO are like McDonalds and AOC is like Steak and Wine? Well... he didn't specify what kind of steak and wine.  I'm thinking Riunite and cube steak.

Will someone please let this Gaute guy know that you should NEVER serve wine before it's time.  And if you're gonna promise good wine... don't serve Koolaid.

While I'll agree that WoW is the McDonalds of MMORPG's, I pesonally don't find AoC to be any better.

Graphics does not make a game and AoC has no soul behind the prettty pictures.

Now if only they had a way I could mute the kids / tv / wife I have making noise in the background while I'm playing. That is the primary reason I refuse to hook a microphone up to my computer.

All you really need to know is that he is a badassed fighter, Does it really matter if the person on the other side is actually a 12 year old girl? I would hate to see perfectly good ogres shunned because people don't like the fact that they are a soprano instead of a baritone.

Has raiding gone too far?

The thought of grouping many people together with a common desire in mind seems fine on the surface. But what about the side-effects?

-Loot driven progression.

-Gaming becomes work.

-Clicks that form up.

-Sleepless nights of players staying up for a raid when they should be in bed.

-Server drama.

I'm sure many more examples can be found. Do you think raiding has gone too far?

Shouldn't the game be about the story and fun, instead of about loot? I think it should, I try to avoid games that have raiding. What do you think?

Short answer:
      No

Long answer:
Everyone has their preferences. Some people enjoy raiding, some do not, don't try to deny this aspect of the game to those who enjoy it. I personally enjoy raiding with my guild in EQ1, it is something I look forward to 5 nights a week. On the flip side, I've been playing EQII a lot recently, where I am taking my time and completing a lot of lore quests with no real desire to level up ( I feel no need to be max level in order to have fun and just enjoy playing).

I'm a die hard D&D fan, I'll never grow tired of the fantasy games derived from it.

Not that I'm adverse to other genre's, I would love to see a Gamma World or Rifts based game. I'm just not going to ever get tired of my elves and orcs.

I'll buy my daughters WoW accounts before I let them anywhere near this.

I made the mistake of letting my oldest daughter into the Hello Kitty store at the mall once about 8 years ago

My faction of choice was always Nurgle, no real desire to play anything else so I will most likely just watch and see how things go at launch before I make any real decisions.

The most fervent WoW player I know is 6'3", about 250 lbs, has 10+ years experiance as a bouncer, and is very heavily armed (due to people coming back to the bar with weapons after being forcefully evicted.)

All three of them are the same player at differant points in time.

Each is playing the game that happens to the flavor the month from his perspective.

Each will argue relentlessly that his current game is the best and anyone who disagrees is an idiot.

He will be correct in his arguement

Before I stick my boot in on this subject let me state that I am buying this game, I have played the table top for the past 20 years and have always been a massive fan.  However here lies my biggest issue with this game...with the table top game each side had the same points.  Playing WAR online is like having an 8000 point army vs a 2000 point army.  Outcome is inevitable...

I keep reading how Chaos is more popular than Order and that it will be slightly in-balanced.  However today I read a survey done by another reputable gaming site.  The worst stats I saw were Chaos outnumbering Order 4 to 1 with the closest match having Chaos outnumbering Order 2 to 1 when comparing similar career paths.

I am playing Order mainly since the guild I joined is Order.  My questions are:

* Is this going to be one massive Chaos feast with Order being pwned the whole time?

* How will they balance the game if 3/4 of the gamers go Chaos?

* If Order is getting bashed then hordes of players will emigrate to Chaos causing a much larger in-balance thus making the whole aim of the game pointless.

Forget bugs on launch, instances etc etc.  All that can be overlooked or fixed but I fear WAR will have the same problem as PotBS and Chaos will be like England winning by default due to the number of players they have over everyone else.

Maybe WAR should have had 3 sides...

Or they could have included some of the other chaos powers and set them against each other.

Chaos has always been the strongest power in the world, only that fact that most of it's might is spent fighting itself has prevented it from dominating the world.

Along the same lines, neither Orks nor Dark Elves should be aligned with Chaos. They should be their own entities, spending as much time at war with each other as with the forces of order.

I too have been gone for 5 years or so. Tried going back with the SOE 60 free days. Installed my cds

patched ALL 14 expansions logged on my Chanter played for an hour. Logged out and uninstalled.

Do not go back if you like to keep your memories. Not saying it is bad or anything negative. I just got use to graphics of today and game play of today.

lol that's exactly what i'm afraid of if i download, patch everything i may only last an hour or so before i uninstall.  I have to admit though according to mmochart

http://www.mmogchart.com/Chart1.html

it has a bigger player base today then it did 5 years ago and with that many active accounts i don't see it going away anytime soon.

There is nothing wrong with the size of EQ's population, it's just that the vast majority is concentrated a max level. Also, these days, most grouping is strictly in guild. Very few people are willing to do pick up groups these days and most people have a cleric or shaman alt that they box with when there is nobody on in guild to group with.

Well there's been a lot of expansions which have radically altered the game in different ways. There's probably a new race and class you may not be aware of- namely the Beserker class and the Drakan race. There has also been some alteration and graphic upgrades of various zones namely, Freeport, Neriak Forest, North Ro+Oasis, and maybe South Ro(I've forgotten) are one zone now, and some other areas that have slipped my mind. There is also a reduced downtime with a new feature of after 30 seconds out of combat, rapidly increased hp/mana regen. Currently, there is a 60 day free return you probably know about. The xp bonuses in the hotzones (something else you might not know about) are pretty generous if you decide to have a look.

I think if you do return you will find the graphics pretty dated in some areas, and I think a lot of the people that do play nowadays are raiders. Make of that what you will, but it's worth a try just for nostalgia sake and because it's free for a while.

Beserker class was out when i played my highest level toon was a 66 bard i did get the omens of war expansion but didn't get to involved with it and left soon after the release.  Playing a bard i had a quick mana/hp regen but the 30 second out of combat thing seems to be a much needed feature for many classes. I guess no more standing around trying to buy a err kodiak intellect or ki whatever it was called.

the auction house, bazaar or whatever do you still have to be logged on and in trader mode to sell your wares or they finally come up with an automated system?

You still have to be logged in but tbh the bazzar is mostly hideously overpriced twink gear and even more hideously overpriced high end cultural gear.  Kei is still popular, as you have to rest less frequently if you have it, and the only starting city that is not a ghost town is Creseant Reach, which is where everyone defaults to.

It is not the same game that you loved five years ago and if you come back with that expectation it will destroy your fond memories. This is not saying you cannot have fun playing EQ, just don't expect it to be the game you remember.

As a side note, They revamped Freeport, North Ro, Oasis, South Ro, East Commonlands, West Commonlands, High Pass, Steamfont, Misty Thicket, and Neriak. Wthen they did they Merged the commonlands into one zone and merged South Ro / Oasis into one zone. They are grapichally nice but most agree they destroyed Freeport when they changed the layout. The other zones are very close to the original with only a graphical revamp.

How about a game called "Think For Yourself"?

If i want to think, I will read a book or work.

Games are entertainment. Just like big summer movies, thinking should not be required.

I want to stop thinking I'll watch television. My personal preferance is for games that require the player to think about what they are doing. If I still lived in an area where they were played I would be involved in Warhammer and Warhammer 40K

I hate television.
