Honestly, I have to agree. The difficulty of these bosses is pretty insane for the level they are. I mean a challenge is good, but dying 20 times is insane. I shouldn't have to have my gear perfectly upgraded just to handle a boss of equal level.

I can understand if I was level 8 and trying to kill a level 12 or level 13 boss and dying so much. But even level, and he's just destroying my sorc?

Nah.

MMORPG fans are a miserable lot.

Please think before you post.

Dedicated healers gives a healing class more VALUE. If there are FOUR out of SIX classes that can heal, then it doesn't really have value. This is the EXACT path SWTOR took and that game had merging servers and a f2p model within 2-3 months of release.

I predict the same fate for Wildstar if it does this class model, which it looks like it.

After reading more about Wildstar I'm definitely passing on it. ESO all the way for me. Wilstar's class system is a joke like SWTOR"s was where each class can be DPS and Healer. No diversity at all.

Yea, no thanks. Wildstar will merge servers and go f2p within 3 months guaranteed.

Because maybe you enjoy the playstyle of a Spellsplinger over a Medic. Maybe you want to tank but do not want to play an Engineer or Warrior, you like the stealthy aspect of the Stalker. At the end of the day allowing multiple classes to fill multiple roles allows people freedom to choose how they want to play the game and have fun. At the end of the day isn't that why we play these games?

Tell me, name a few other MMO's that have already been released that have gone with this class system method? Do you know what they are?

I can give you hints if you like..

Get your facts straight then we will talk.

I just watched two videos on the classes and there are FOUR healers out of SIX total classes.

What's your point?

Warrior - Tank/DPS
Esper - CC/Heal/DPS
Spellslinger - Heal/DPS
Medic - Heal/DPS
Engineer - DPS/CC/Heal/Tank/Do the dishes/Go grocery shopping/ Did I miss anything?
Stalker - DPS/Tank

So basically, most of the classes...can welll...do everything?

Tell me...why in the hell would I play a Spellslinger over a Medic? Or better yet, why don't I just play an Engineer and be amazing at everything?

Why can't a Medic JUST heal? An Esper JUST do CC and dome DPS? A warrior JUST tank? A Spellslinger JUST do DPS?

What is with these game developers making a "lets just make 6 classes that can do everything!"

Oh let me throw another curveball at you fine folks.

Let's pretend I'm an Ogre Warrior, and I'm leveling up and going about my business. I also level up my rogue, mage, and cleric on the same character. With me so far?

But I want my mage to be a female high elf! Since they are going to let me be any class and swap them out of combat when I want to, are they going to let me change my race too?

Because I'd like to have:

An Ogre Warrior
A High Elf Mage
A Halfling Rogue
A Dwarf Cleric

on the same character please. :) I mean why not right? If you're going to let us "Choose what we want to do", then I want to have all the classes and all the races on the same character.

except not really
Or at all....but people can hyperbole the shit out of in on a forum.

He does have a point though. That's the direction MMO's are going towards. Instead of actually leveling up a separate Mage for example, this system will allow you to take off your plate armor, put away your Polearm of Destruction, take a cloak and staff out of your backpack, put it on and voila, you're now a mage!

Oh wait you don't need a mage, you need a rogue. Hold on for 2 seconds before you pull that mob...let me change into my Assassin real fast...oh and let me hide and sneak behind the mob first before you pull it.

So much for goddamn immersion. :) lol

I started playing way back when the PVP server Nagafen released, but quit after a few months. I haven't played since but I thought I'd give it another try but was wondering if it's too late. I'd have to start over from scratch most likely.

My question is, is the game worth to start playing and be brand new at? How are the populations? What servers are the most populated?

I love the Holy Trinity class system that EQ2 gives so I figured I'd come back.

Any thoughts?

I dont think anyone here doesnt know that. We know we can mqster every class in the game. So? In eve I can learn every skill and train into every ship BUT I can only fly one ship per character at a time. I have to choose which ship is active out of the multitude of roles for any given figjt before it happens. So in EQ it is the same I must choose what abilities and therefore what role I want to play before hand for any engagement.

I for one think this is awesome

How is this any different than GW2 + RIFT? Because it's a combination of both.

They also don't want dedicated healers and tanks in the game, if you keep watching the video. They are steering away from that which means that if there are no dedicated tanks and healers, then everyone will be able to...right? Unless that's not what "we dont want dedicated tanks and healers" means... please correct me if i didn't hear him correctly in the video.

OP, from someone who was AT that panel, you honestly are lost.  You cannot do EVERYTHING if you multi class, you have your main class, cleric in your example, with its specific weapon skills, then you can pick 4 class abilities from any classes you have available for your class slots, someone multi classing CANNOT have all 4 cleric class spells, or they're not multi classing, so if you take all your cleric class spells and someone has 1 of yours, 1 from war, and 2 from rogue, they will not be healing nearly as well as you.  Get it yet?  You're not handicapped for sticking to a cleric, or a warrior, or w/e.  You will be far better at that role than someone who is just dabbling in multiple different roles.

I hear you, but when someone asked about playing one of the 10 classes and just playing that or multiclassing this was the panel's response:

"You can absolutely start out with 1 of the 10 classes, and then you can go find the other 9 classes in the world and be all of them if you want to..."

No where in that entire video did they ever state that a multiclassed character of let's say a Cleric and Warrior will be ANY weaker than someone that just wanted to play a Cleric. Meaning, they will have the same ability. Multiclassing is the way to go because you're just as strong.

I watched the hour long video twice now regarding it and not once did they state it.

Why not let players experiment with different classes / combos? You can start as a healer / tank / dps and keep your role, you are not forced to multiclass.

That's fine, but from what I understood from the SOE Panel those that multiclass will have the same ability and powers of those that just use one role and stick to that role. There isn't a "well because he's multi-classing, his powers aren't as strong as someone that focused on one role". All roles regardless if you multi-class or not will have equal strength.

Most of you are entirely missing the point of this thread.

Personally i find the whole old raid mechanics completely handcuffing and restricting to my style of play and am glad EQ Next went without cookie cutter classes

What is your style of play if I may ask?

Originally posted by Zaradoom I don't mind custom classes, at all. I do mind Jack of all trades approach. I do mind not having a tank. I do mind not having a healer. Group dynamics NEVER worked without a trinity, GW2 being a recent example of "group play". Everyone in the group is basically soloing next to each other. Maybe giving each other some minor buffs, or at the very best one person kiting a boss while the others fire at it.   Did i mention how boring and mind numbing that is? Id 100% prefer waiting 5 hours for a tank to do a group dungeon then soloing the same dungeon with other soloer around.
This i can see where you're going with. Theres nothing stopping us though from just assigning ourselves certain roles to preform taht we focus on more than others. I mean say you got a group of your buddies just say who wants to focus on healing and who wnats to focus on drawing aggroe or what have you and have them preform it to teh best of their abilities without a cookie cutter class to do it in. I mean I guess im just not seeing it as that much of a problem to overcome

You aren't understanding the entire point. Yes there's nothing stopping people from just "role playing" assigning roles to people. But most people (because it's available for them to do so) will play everything in one super human class where they can do everything (tank, heal, cast spells, and do rogue-like abilities). And for those that don't take advantage of the system they have put in place, they will be at a disadvantage.

Case in point: It's in SOE's court how they want to implement their class system, and if they want people to group up and just solo mobs like GW2 does, then that's how they want to make their game.

It's fine.

It's just too bad because it's nice being that powerful Cleric in a group that does all the healing and saves the group from certain death. It's nice to mean something in a group and have a ROLE. I remember in EQ1 as a cleric, even people I've never met before knew who I was because I was one of those clerics that never charged people to give them a rez, so I was sought after. It's just nice to have roles.

Agreed. Perfectly stated. This is exactly what I'm talking about.

I don't agree with the OP at all. I mean this is nothing new in UO we had no classes and we could mix and match whatever we wanted to be at anytime. Drop one skill raise another. We had been doing things like this since i played pen and paper too you were never confined to one single class you could dual class or multi classin D@D as well. I mean wtf is the problem here?

There's a difference between dual classes, and being able to do everything. Atleast in pen and paper D&D there were dedicated tanks and dedicated healers in the game. UO and Shadowbane were different games. EQ1, EQ2, WoW, DAOC, etc all were games that were based on having dedicated roles so groups worked well with the content.

What those SUCCESSFUL games (EQ1, EQ2, WoW, DAOC) didn't have were JACK OF ALL TRADES classes that could do everything.

From my understanding, you still pick a main class.. say Cleric. The cleric is given 2 weapon choices and you get 4 abilites for each of those weapons. Then you are given 4 class slots. Those 4 slots allow you to pick abilities from any other class you have collected. This link explains it in alot more detail.

http://www.mmobomb.com/everquest-next-classes-detailed

You also can still level up other classes though as they stated in the Panel. It's not just one class and then you decide on weapon abilities, etc. through tiers. They specifically stated that you can level up a Warrior to level 20 or whatever, and then do a mage and use those weapon abilities as well.

We're not even getting into the 4 max weapon ability system that is directly copied from GW2. In fact, almost the entire class system is what GW2 has.
