Middle Earth MMO with real PvP and balanced classes....
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/26/09 6:51:38 PM
Most people who are into LotR(not saying all, just most) pretty much wanted what LotRO set up. They wanted to travel the world of Bilbo, Frodo, Gandalf and Aragorn through Middle Earth, seeing all the familiar places of the novel, as well as some areas from lore. They gave enough PvP for a little variety, but this is Middle Earth, not WAR. Why does someone want to play on what they know is the losing side? What, you think they should have Guilds of the EyE and Guilds of the West? Whatcha gonna do when they get to killing that ring and your guilds disintegrate? I know they COULD do just that, but they are under license from the Tolkein Estate. They have to design the game under what the estate thinks is the vision of Tolkein's Middle Earth, not what a bunch of RRRAAAWWWRRRR!!! PvP guys would like. Sure, I'd love to play a Haradrim on an Oliphaunt mowing down Rohirrim; but I know it won't happen. You can always hop on another MMO and Role Play. Hell, as was said before, they're all based on Tolkein, anyway. |

On the "Lost in translation" issue: the team working on it involves US devs at NC West, so I think the NA/EU game will be fine. Personally, I wish everyone would quit jinxing things by spouting that "WoW-killer" crap. If they release a nice, polished game(which it should be) that doesn't break 500k, as long as I am one of those enjoying the polished shiny stuff, that's all I care about. Looking for the next "WoW-killer" is not just a waste of time; it's retarded. Even if a game surpases them in subs, they'll still be around for a long time. Besides, at the rate they are going, Free Realms will reach the numbers before any other game. A lot of under 18...hell, under 13-year-olds can enjoy that game. I don't think Aion, or WoW, for that matter, can do that!. Not to mention those above 18 ;) |

Guild Wars 2 is taking far to long!!
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/25/09 10:08:08 AM
Man, how many threads have there been on this subject?! They only said anything about working on GW2 to explain why they released EotN instead of "Utopia", which was supposed to be the fourth chapter. They have a Live Team of four people working on Guild Wars. EVERYONE else is working on GW2. They aren't going to release ANYTHING on the game until after Aion NA/EU is released and has a chance to run. The game's beta won't be out till at least next year. They are making a WoW-size MMO. Do you think that takes just two-three years from start to release? If you do, you're a moron. Personally, it makes me smile every time they don't cave to the fanbois and idiots screaming for content. AoC gave content. Tabula Rasa gave a lot of content. WAR gave content, and was made in three years. TR was rebooted from scratch two years before it came out. You want THAT for GW2? Go outside. Enjoy the sun. Play another game. I look at how long Aion and GW2 are taking as a good sign of things to come. |

Original Guild Wars has a nice storyline, but the other chapters offer new features that you might like. Nightfall for example lets you develop heroes (henchmen). These heroes can be developed with customised gear and skills. Basically in Guild Wars you develop your character by gathering different skills for more diversity and developing these heroes. It might be a refreshing change from just lvling a character. You can PVP with only the original Guild Wars. But if you are planning to join a guild for some well organised guild vs guild, you will have to buy the other chapters for a lot of skills that are commonly used in GvG. Although I think you can buy skill unlocksets in the online store now for PVP use. All 3 chapters have access to the Battle Isles and PvP. So, no matter if you get Guild Wars, Factions or Nightfall, you will have access to pvp. As for the characters,I have a female mesmer in the game(avatar). If you want to look good, there are no others that do it as well. |

Or, if you really need a fix, get something brainless and fun like Free Realms. It'll be like hopping on Methadone to take the edge off till you can go back to hardcore stuff like Aion, Champoins, et al. |

I think where AMD/ATi fail is in their legacy support. One of my comps is a laptop with Windows 7 64 and an ATi mobility X1400. It's two years old, yet I look and ATi offers no support for the card. nVidia still supports FX5200's, for Chrissakes! They don't realize that, when I look for the next great card for my desktop, I'll be taking a look at this long-term lack of support as a factor. As in, I just bought a 260 for my desktop, and plan on checking off the nVidia column for my next note. gg. |

I'd suggest they kill this thread, but I'm having too much fun seeing one person demonstrate how many ways he can make an ass out of himself! Going back to the "Oriental" comment, if your brain were developed, you could have said East Asian, which refers to China, Japan, and Korea. Southeast Asian would be from Burma and Thailand to Indonesia. Central Asian would be India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and the plethora of other -Stans. As to TR...I agree with one poster about the game having not enough for an MMO. Hell, give it better graphics and it's an RPG. They spent 7 years working on one game, then, with less than two years left, trashed it, took Auto Assault's engine, and threw together a Halo rip-off. Really!! Richard Garriott slaps his name on it, and off they go. It was fun, to a point, but, when I hopped on, you would see maybe 20 or more people in the MAIN HUBS. Hell, I can go into a hub on Guild Wars for 5 minutes before I lose connection from the heavy population, and that game has been out 4 years! TR was dead after less than a year. I won't even touch those math skills. With that understanding of finances, you should work for the government. But keep posting. You entertain us. |

Ummm, he's right. Unless you have cataracts, you can see they have similar artistic design. Heck, even the characters have that look. Maybe you should check the plethora of comments on photos/footage of the game stating this fact, before you lambaste someone for posting their opinion...one shared by many in the community. And to whoever said gameplay over graphics...yeah, that worked great for Darkfall...oh, wait... |

Two things... OP: do the free trial thing. I have played and loved the game for over two years, but it's always good to try it out, and see if you like the mechanics of it. To whoever said GW2 was coming out soon: The game isn't coming out this YEAR. We might see a beta towards the end of the year, but probably not till early-mid 2010. NCSoft, the publisher for Anet, is pushing hard on Aion, so Anet isn't going to step on that games toes so it can have a good release(after Rasa and Auto Assault, I think NCSoft wants a good release to get the bad taste out of its mouth). The geniuses at Amazon just posted pre-orders with the game date to gauge the popularity of the title. Anet has said before, it will be released...when it's ready. Not a day before. |

All Jedi should be NPCs only. Not real players.
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 5/13/09 8:27:00 PM
Another post by someone who has no clue why people play these games. If you want to be a Joe Schmoe, there's a game called Real Life. I hear it cn be the meningless drivel that you want to play. The whole point of people playing games is to escape and have fun. It's why some people make fun of farmers in games. If you want to grind, get a boring job. That should satisfy you. Some people are happy to be a cog. Others want to run the machine, even if it is just a fantasy. Jedi are the key to the Star Wars universe. At the time of this game, there were probably thousands of Jedi roaming the galaxy. Compred to the billions living there, that wouldn't be much. If you cut out the Jedi, you cut out the player's link to that universe. It's like saying that you can play LotRO, but only as a human. No Elves, Dwarves or Hobbits. They will offer other options, I am sure. However, just because you can't deal with some people acting like gamers having fun, don't say a game designer needs to kill their profit margin just because you can't stnd to see the "holy image of jedi" ruined. |

Yeah, I played the game about a month, and I just couldn't get excited about it. I men, people hyped it to be the game that WoW wished it could be, nd turned out to be the game WoW is gld it isn't. From all the IP this game has behind it, You would have thought it would be less linear. This made AoC feel like a sandbox game, in comparison. The big thing, to me, was how a game that looked worse than LotRO, run as bad s AoC. This on a rig with 4 gigs and a HD4750. It just felt cheap in comparison to other games. I'll play F2P games before I pay for a game like this. |

I'm one of those who were disappointed with the game's release, and wouldn't go back. That being said, it soulds like you like the game. They still have over 200k people playing. I wouldn't worry about the game dying. Hell, NCSoft kept that dor Tabula Rasa around over a year, and it never broke 100k at its prime. They consolidated their servers, so I'm guessing there are enough people to find a guild. If you are enjoying the game, stick with it. Most of the people who flme the game were, like me, expecting more out of the game than they delivered when it opened. There were many bugs, and the content past Tortage dried up around level 45. If we had, like you did, hopped into the game now, I have a feeling ouor views would be different. If you re enjoying the game, don't let others decide whether you stay. AoC isn't going anywhere, not unless they do something to lose 100-200k subs in the next few months. |

Originally posted by Wizardry No excuses. WoW manages trial accounts with few issues. LotRO, same. Ditto EVE. FFXI, out for 5...6 years, can't? If they don't like the free trial offer, fine. Don't do it. But don't offer it, then make it frustrating so that you have to cough up the cash to play. Most people will /uninstall and never buy your product. |

You can also get a SSD a year or so down the road, when the prices come down, though they don't offer much if you aren't on a laptop.. Windows 7 is more solid playing as an RC than Vista is with SP2. Plus, you got over year to save pennies for the final release. |

Where is a mod when you need them? Is this constructive? No. I guess the pre-reqs for the Drkfall threads are lower than others. Just a bunch of 5 year-olds yelling "Is not! Is too!" |

A couple of comments. First, name me one successful MMO TODAY that has full looting. Don't pull out that MUD bs. This is 2009, not 1992. your average player(and no one posting around here is average) likes the current model of limited conseuences for dying, because their idea of fun is not the UO model. If Mortal Online wants to use this, fine. there may be some who like to play this way. Don't for a second think, however, that it will break 100k using this. Second, FPS works in ranged combat. It sucks in melee. Keep whipping out Oblivion till the cows come home. Lemme check my MMORPG index...hmmmm...nope. No Oblivion on there. Last I checked this was an MMO site. Not an FPS or RPG site, but MMOrpg. As was said before, you need 180 degree perception, which isn't going to happen without VR goggles, three screens or a concave screen. Otherwise, you are running around like one of those horses with blinders on. gg. The game visually looks good, and the options are nice, but those two things are limiting its access to casual gamers. You do that, you are cutting the legs out from under you. Look at how well DF is doing with that model. |

any point in playing this now, if I haven't already?
Lion's Arch (General) « Guild Wars 5/08/09 10:48:27 PM
Been playing the game for over two years. I've tried many other P2P games, yet I still can't find any that give me what GW does for free. As said before, the community is still very much alive. Every day new guilds are forming, and others have been active since the game's inception. Between the storyline, the art, and the PvP, there is plenty to do to keep you busy for at least a few years. Besides, GW2 Beta wont be out till next year, probably, so it gives you plenty of time to enjoy the game. s far as buying the other two, you can get the Guild Wars trilogy for 49.99 at eb games, and Eye of the North for 20. Compare that to shelling out 15 bucks a month for a game that will probably look and play worse, and that you will feel obligates to grind out to get the most out of it.
