Star Wars: The Old Republic: Star Wars: The Old Trek
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/23/11 11:37:13 AM
Using the "lore" to support your rampant homophobia is weak. Just because they don't mention homosexuals in the stories, doesn't mean there were none in the universe. If the ancient Greeks practiced same-sex relationships, why would it not happen in a technologically advanced society? Really, people, admit your own insecurities as such. That can be respected a bit more than hiding behind the lore to give weight to them. |

No. It's one thing if, like GA or GW, players can at least get together and interact in-game in a hub. But chatting on Battle-net doesn't qualify. Diablo 3 looks like an awesome RPG; but the name of this site is MMORPG.com, not RPG.com. For that matter, I can't understand why, with an RTS and an FPS component, you didn't start an RPG site, considering more MMO'ers play RPGs than either of the other two. |

Guild Wars 2 vs SW:ToR which you more hyped for?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/13/11 11:01:30 AM
Um, both. Guild Wars 2 will only cost the price of the box/DL, so I can play both. Either will be better than most of the crappola out there right now. I like being part of a story. That goes back to why I played DnD and Gamma World. You feel like you are in a story, an adventure. After killing the equivalent of ten rats/boars, or running package A to person B a billion times, or dealing with overpowered asshats in PvP that is more who has the better gear than who has more skill, I think they will both be a refreshing change. So I'll just sub SWTOR and play GW2 for free. |

Does Harsh Death Penalty really make the Challenge, or does Harder Gameplay make the Challenge?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/09/11 6:05:47 PM
Community isn't formed by DP. It's formed by a lot of people getting together for a challenging part of the game, or people helping others attaining their goals, or, as in real life, a bunch of people with similar interests getting together to have fun doing something they like. A challenging quest isn't going to be affected by DP. it will be affected by how a group of people try the quest until they come together with the right task to overcome it. Also, I would argue that DP causes some people to not take risks for the group in situations where their sacrifice might help the group as a whole succeed. |

Does Harsh Death Penalty really make the Challenge, or does Harder Gameplay make the Challenge?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/09/11 1:08:33 PM
Harder gameplay, by far. As said before, a harsh DP is just an aggravation that pisses a player off, and is a cop-out by a developer who can't truly make the monsters or quests more skillful, so has to tag on DP to slow it down(think Aion and Soul Healers!). It is in the same category as grind, as far as I'm concerned. Adding severe DP, like grind, is just another cheap way for devs to give the illusion of depth and challenge where there is none. Accepting it just gives them another way to cop out of creativity and skill in the game creation process, instead of creating a game with richness and vitality. |

Trion Worlds SciFi MMO to be unveiled at E3
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/04/11 12:46:02 PM
I agree with the "Lumbering SUV" comment. EVE is doing the crossover thing smart. For one, they are staying in the gaming universe. This sounds like a gamer's version of American Idol more than a fun interaction. Second, EVE became established and successful as an MMO first, doing what they do well, then started talking about branching out with Dust 541. With this concept, the game makers and SyFy might as well have used RIFT to push this concept. Finally, I, too, am having bad flashbacks to Tabula Rasa. If Rocky goes to the ISS, I'm gonna crap myself. |

From the looks of the servers in the closed beta, this is more a beta for Hanbitsoft to work out their issues with the game than for players to actually PLAY the game. I'd wait till open beta to check out real gameplay. |

Eh, it's a PvP game. It has low design/maintenance costs, so it doesn't need half a million subs to be successful. Nothing is that broken in it. It isn't going anywhere. Unlike TCoS... |

Why is it that some people need to argue points that no one makes? No one associated with Aion has said it wasn't like WoW after all it's a fantasy MMO and they haven't gone over board saying the graphics are some sort of break through just that they are well done. So in addition to your points being useless and irrelevant, Pezhead you are a dumb-fuck.
+1 to dumb fuck. Nice job, Deserttfoxx |

The game is a super hero game. The object is to be the best hero you can be. If you can't handle that without putting the WoW map over it, it's probably not the game for you. It uses a different style than a classic fantasy mmo. Just learn it and play it under those aspects, and then decide if it's for you.

Re storyless: people like yourself are why others do drugs. @ OP: Yeah, from the looks of the 20 minute demo, SWTOR will be just as addictive, if not more so. They have proven they can write a good story. Hell, I'd take KoTOR I and II over any of the episodes 1-3 any day. I'd rather be addicted to the story and design of Bioware, than the grind and leveling of other games. |

Finally someone that picked up on the issues that I thought were of the most importance! :) Jumping, swimming (possibly underwater!). These are features that GW lacked, and I'm VERY glad they'll be in GW2. I just have 1 more hope for this game..... Higher level cap with a MUCH broader range of gear power. That was the biggest turn-off for me about GW. I could not find fun in getting new loot, because the only thing different about it was the TINY increase in stats or damage. I like this to be handles more traditionally. I love how WoW approachs it. Gear dependancy is paramount. no...no nononononoNONONONONO! Keep that WoW "mah gearz pwns urz" shit out of the game. That's one of the things that was GOOD about Guild Wars. It was skill over time played. No ass-hat who had elite design armor had any advantage over a guy with basic max armor. In fact, the guy with FoW armor was most likely to get beat down in PvP. Personally, I just hope I can still make a Mesmer. |

Having suffered the beta of Fallen Earth, I think I'll give it to Earthrise. Fallen looks like a post-apocalyptic Darkfall with crafting. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: GC '09: Demo Walkthrough Video Now Live!
News Discussion « General Discussion 8/21/09 10:38:00 PM
Yeah, they show the big WoW event, then Bioware comes up and says, "Oh yeah, here's a little in-game action for you," and proceeds to blow it out of the water. Between Aion, this game, and Guild Wars 2, WoW really shows its age with the Tauren and gnome re-skins. |

Biggest expansion in the history of Mmorpg's?
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 8/21/09 7:20:06 PM
Eh, if you like WoW, it will be well-received. Considering they made the game easy to work with, they can do something as big as this and have no problem. It's what separates Blizzard as a company from the others. It's not like it's even original, when you look at Anet's story of the dragons in GW2 over a year ago. "A dragon legend rises from the oceans.." Where did we hear that before? cough-legendoforr-cough. Thing is, they are smart. It's plenty enough till they get started on the real game, Blizzard's next big mmo. But easy, fanbois, on the "revolutionary" claims. This was NOT hard for them to do. all they are doing is refreshing the war between the horde and the alliance, which has been going for, what, 5 years, now? It isn't Rocket science to re-skin Taurens and gnomes into Wolf-whatevers and Goblins. It'll be good, it'll make money, but please, enough with declarations of WoW dominance into the next century. Really. |

Nope. They said in the beginning that they were sticking to the same business model as GW. They like the idea of people being able to play the game without feeling required to play because of a sub. |
