Thanks shadow_51, you reminded me of another great ancestor to Atlantica - King's Bounty. I think New World Computing made a sequel to KB this year, but I'm drawing upon my experiences with the OLD game - the one I played on my Apple IIe. Atlantica combat is a happy blend of FF1, King's Bounty, Disciples, and Ogre Battle... bravo Atlantica. (please note, King's Bounty rates in my top 5 all time and the others are right up there... no, they don't pay me to say good things about their game... I'll be pointing out the many flaws over the next few months in my articles - but, what game is without flaw? Let that game throw the first byte... ok, this is a long footnote.) |

Personally, I'm not a believer in the Atlantica loot system. "Stuff Quest" should be embraced by mmo developers - rare drops and item customization are fun fun fun (Diablo 3 might just make my head explode - in a good way). I do agree that the box limit is "odd", but it's not enough to make me stop logging in... probably because I'm pretty casual. However, as correspondent, I'm trying my best to set aside a day to try and hit the limit and see what that does to my psyche (If I have a complete breakdown, I'll try to post a vid to youtube or something) |

The "Sailor" You can find the info ingame right now by going to the Merc Info screen, Swords, Sailor. Looks like North America may be back in the game soon as well, as the text says the quest to get yer sailor is started in the Caribbean... Good stuff on the horizon! |

As a fellow casual gamer, I agree with your observations! I do get in trouble sometimes, though, when my kids light the house on fire (or some other equally disastrous event) and I come back to find otter have ambushed my party and decimated my front line! |

Shaman was my first as well... then, I tried cannon and haven't looked back yet. Blowing stuff up is just too much fun! |

Hi and welcome to Atlantica! That merc can now be upgraded (cost: 50 ashen crystals) Open your inventory screen and click on the little magnifying glass for that merc. At the bottom should be an "Upgrade" button - enjoy!

Grouping is tons of fun - especially in the group-based dungeons. It all depends on what type of game you like to play - if you like doing the same fights over and over again (FF1 to grind gold, FFT to build characters, Disgaea to do just about anything, etc), then this may be the game for you. AND you can do it all with a friend (or 2) - which is added bonus. The good thing is - it's free. No $50 lost on a box from GameStop Personally... I haven't felt it "grindy", but I'm quite casual (2 kids)... *shrug*

How did you find out about Altantica Online?

I clicked on a banner while viewing the great vids on www.thatguywiththeglasses.com Usually, I end up playing these free games once and then uninstalling... with Atlantica, I've been playing for 2 weeks now and warhammer online has been collecting dust. |

In 2 days, I have gotten 0 spam in my in-game mailbox. On an average day, I got 20 mails before. Good change. |

You can also "store" mercs in your merc room (My Info - Merc room). That'll free up a spot to beef up your front lines a little more, which I suggest you do! |

The confusing part about the blinking whisper box is it comes to you "minimized", and you must click on the "minimize" icon to "maximize" it. (by minimize icon, I mean the underscore "_") There are a few interface quirks and mistranslations throughout the game. Hopefully, these get cleaned up during open beta. |
