Sooooo......the games not finished
General Discussion « Pirates of the Burning Sea 1/18/08 7:06:36 PM
The way I look at new MMO's when buying them and trying them is this: Is the direction worth investing in? I do NOT want a game that cannot out live its content. I am not one of those people who find ONE bug and determine that the world has become a ball of flames. I understand that I am the consumer, but the problem with the mmo scene (and this applies to EVERYTHING customer service related) is that alot of people have pride issues and many people want EVERYTHING catered to their own personal needs. If ONE thing isnt how THEY want it, then they go on a forum protest and wage a campaign to get EVERYOEN to feel the same way they do and if you dont "You suxor".. They cannot please everyone, to be honest not even WoW pleased everyone, but people often believe that strength is in numbers.. So they believe as long as alot of people "agree" on something it MUSt be the "right" thing to do, right? No matter how much time and/or effort they put into this game, the arrogant few who seem to be "too good" for a few bugs (which CAN be fixed by the way) will maintain the hateful status and will try as hard as they can to spread the hatred.. (vanguard is a good example of what the "popular opinion" can do) I can live with a few bugs as long as they do not DRAMATICLY interrupt my playing experience. i'm talking "crashing" bugs (like Vista when it first came out), and graphical anamolies such as chunks of missing geometry... So its all in the GAME whether I try and buy an mmo. If a game had a deep system and great mechanics and decent world size, i'd play it if it had 100's of small bugs and 10 people playing it... |

Pirates of the Caribbean Online (by Disney)...
General Discussion « Pirates of the Caribbean Online 1/18/08 11:45:55 AM
This game is crazy fun and addictive.. It is quick and light hearted, yet has the depth (Blackjack and poker anyone?) to truly become one of the greats.. I just do not understand how these so called "hardcore: gamers can frown at this game BUT somehow say that playing WoW is a much more "hardcore" experience? Since when did WoW become such a mature and hardcore game?? PotCO attracts the SAME demographics as WoW, and to be honest if you think of wow to be "hardcore" then there is def. a chance for you to find this game hardcore as well.. But i'm not going to lie, I was not really thinking of trying it since it was of course a disney game, BUT if any of you have seen the PotC movies will realize that is pulled the Lion King theory in where it is a mix of mature comedy and slapstick humour that both kids and adults can enjoy together.. So I guess what I am saying is, being "hardcore" is not a good reason to doubt this game. I think everyone who enjoyed the movies owe it to themselves to try this game and see if they like it or not..

$14.99 per month no longer the "limit", time to dig deep or why we've learnt to hate EA.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/18/08 11:34:29 AM
This is a touchy subject in I have always pondered why MMO's cost the EXACT same as single player games, or games with single player options, YET still costs nearly a quarter of the actual software cost EACH month just to play it.. I may be looking at it the wrong way, but what does software costs have to do with maintaining the servers? I understand the sub costs are to continually keep the servers up and running, but why charge 50 dollars for just the software which is useless until a subcription is paid for usually? I understand that most mmo's with hefty box costs include a free month, but why not, as an actual reason and incentive to buy the box, lower the price to say 20 bucks (5 more dollars higher than sub price) which pays for your subscrition and they could throw neat things like added bonuses and maps to box customers.. I just dont understand how a box, with nothing more than a 15 dollar subscrition included can have to cost 50 dollars ( as much as a game that can be enoyed WITHOUT added subscrition costs). Hopefully we will not let any company get away with raising that price, because I feel its already stretching into the "greed" category, anymore per month and either (A) the software will need to start being completely free downloadables or (B) or it will push the mmo's into a recession where less people will be able to afford, or willing to pay more than 15 bucks for EACH game they want to play + soft fee.... I truly think all NORMAL software mmo's should be free to download OR include bonuses in boxed retail versions |

Bottom line about this game..
General Discussion « Pirates of the Caribbean Online 1/16/08 7:19:43 PM
Graphics : C- , I almost died of laughter when I seen the graphics, and instantly realized that it is the exact same graphics engine used for the ToonTown game. It's not pretty by no means, but I suppose it gets the job done. Being that I don't play games for graphics (i'm on a "medium" performance laptop.) this didn't ruin anything for me. Sound : B , The music is movie inspired, and adds alot of drama to some of the scenes. The sound effects however are pretty bad, though not unbearable, they can get repetitive and annoying in places with alot of people or things going on. Community : D , For the first 2 days of playing (about 11 hours), the chat was EMPTY. There were people in many areas, but there was NOTHING being said, ever. And when I tried to strike up a conversation by saying a simple "hello", I got ignored and ran away from. Grouping was non existent and trying to ask for help was impossible. I was playing a single player game for the most part, and while it almost drove me to quit the game, I decided to continue because of how I remember Anarchy Online when I started. Quiet at noob levels, and then when the floodgates open at higher levels the chat never shuts up. Innovation: B - , Although the "skill tree" concept is a tried and true method, I like the classless option to pretty much create your own class and mix and match skills with a variety of different weapons. The sailing and sea battles are also very fun and require a bit of strategy and cordination to be succesful. Each different weapon on land has a slightly different mechanic. The cutlass relies on timing to link combos, while the pistol requires the user to point and aim a small circle on their targets and the voodoo doll requires the user to create a "bond" with the mob before manipulating them with a series of actions on the doll. Lots of skills, and ways to make your character unique in terms of strengths and weaknessess.. Difficulty: C + , Being that the target audience for this game is pretty much the same as Toon Town (and WoW respectively), the game is not very difficult, especially early on. HOWEVER that is NOT to say that it doesn't have its hard parts, because there are no REAL tiers in this game and you can find low levels mobs and high level mogbs mingling in any area of the game. While this may throw some people off, I find it very good for the challenege factor, sometimes you cant just rush in and kill everything, you have to be careful to avoid certain areas and mobs or risk death. As for death the penalty is perfect in my opnion. It sends you to a jail, where you wake up "groggy" and have to break out. While groggy, your hp and voodoo (mp) points are reduced. The groggyness will eventually go away with time, but fighting and sailing and gaining fame helps the effect fade faster. This is a great death penalty for this type of game as it allows you to jump right back into battle, yet not at full strength which means you have to be careful or you will end up at the jail again. Overall: B , Not much i can say but, for a "kiddy" game this game shines for what its worth. You will not find an EPIC vanguard-esque size world, not will you collect masses of EPIC equipment and items like in World of Warcraft, but if you just want a small world with fast a furious fun combat on land and sea as a pirate, then you should give it a try. I did, and now I am hooked. It aims to do what it wanted to do, and it succeeded.. |

What is teh best F2P MMORPG at the moment ?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/16/08 6:45:24 PM
Pirates of the Carribean Online is very fun F2P game.. I just started it like 3 days ago and have been HOOKEd every since.. The sea battles are fun and the avatar customization is very cool... For this to be a "kiddy" game, it sure does have its deep parts.. And best of all, its NOT an equipment/item based game..it is a SKILL based game including TIMED combos and AIMING when using certain skills... its a blast. you guys should try it out! |

He should be out feeding the hungry and shooting iraqi insurgents and burning crosses and drinking and bangin a new nameless whore from the nearest bar and "pimping" out his new rice-burner and more drinking and doing drugs and building a battlebot and golfing and riding go-karts and watching american idol because aren't these things the only way to have this thing called a "life"? The OP should go get "a life".. You may substitue the phrase "a life" with any noun... try for instance.. The OP should go get "a bottle of beer"..

I CANNOT stand when people try to judge people lives based on pointless things like, religion, social status, wealth, sexual wealth etc... The only thing that should have been said to the OP is that "beating" an mmo doesnt take skill.. thats ALL.. No one has the right to judge any mans life based on that BS.. Thats like the ignorance that places people without a harvard or Yale degree in a lower tier of life, like they are not even human life forms.. Get the F*ck off of your high horses and stop making this personal.. THESE are games, have FUn with em, and stop involving the real life issues that we always have to deal with.. WE KNOW those will be there.. Why keep reminding this guy? As I said i9n the begining, Mmo's are not skill based games which mean while your resume looks nice when talking "basic mmo progression" it means NOTHING to a "think-box" (RTS or Turn based strats) or "skill-twitch" (first person shooters) gamer...Which means "beating" an mmo is a pointles feat to bragg about.. And don't worry, i will not judge your life based on you "success" in a g*d damned video game... |

Play Vanguard and listen to Hathor Zhi's music... Better yet, go to Ahgram.. Vanguard has the best ethnic music I have ever heard.. Being that musical tatses differ I would say that this "best" stuff is really opinionated.. Anarchy online (Shadow Lands especially) has some nice tracks, as well as Planetside.. |

Back in Planet Side and loving it all over again
General Discussion « Planetside 1/13/08 9:54:30 PM
I just started myself, and though I did play before, when it first came out.. a WHILE ago, so much has changed its almost brand new.. It is amazingly fun! The strategic warfare and TRIBES like fighting makes this game a perfect alternative to games like Battlegrounds: Europe (WW Online).. |

LOL.. Gimme a break! MMO's are not even a true test of SKILL.. they are only time sinks... How can you be a GOOD MMIO player? lmao.. There is no skill involved which means getting all this "UBAH" gear is no way to determing how 1337 you are.. How can anyone even envy someone who's only success comes from a game in which NO skill is involved? lol.. And this goes for ALL mmo's.. You cannot brag about getting anything in them because until they make one where player skill actually determines progress, it will remain a pointless success.. The amount of time spent playing a game does not = UBAH LEET SKILL... so umm.. this discussion is now void...lol.. climb to the top of the COD 4 leaderboards and I just may applaud you.. |

Hey warhammer WHERE is your black people at?

Hey warhammer WHERE is your black people at?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/10/08 9:00:40 PM
this topic is already too ignorant... It is a FANTASY game.... Not a real life simulation...lol.. no black people??? Come on... Does that argument even count for anything when it comes to mmo's??? This is almost laughable.. Oh..and before the "I am a racist" flames start to fly in.. Note: I am also an african american.. But, i don't waste my time playing a certain race in games simp-ly because it "matches" my real life skin tone...lmao geez... And here comes rev. Al Sharpton on this matter too huh? lol... MMO Rights activists and stuff... lets be real people.. |

And AO is proving what all the Zombies of Blizzard's MMO (which will remain nameless) will not understand... IT DOES NOT TAKE A MILLION BILLION PEOPLE to keep a game going strong.... |
|
|
NO instancing..... ALL classes are unique to each other (Not just black and white opposites)... The world is HUUUGE, not a collection of bells that warp you to another playfield....... Races are aplenty and each have unique specialties... crafted items can actually DIFFER from one another.....bleh bleh bleh... whatever, not even worth it... Worthless to compare EQ 2 to Vanguard... try comparing it to WoW and LoTRO instead... |

I'm not going to lie.. I played this game at beta and it sucked the life right out of me.. Even at release when I rushed to buy the game I would spend nights, days, and hours and hours whooping up on people trying to find a good mix of stratedgy.. Everything was fun until a few select people discovered the IWIN button, and then the balance issues took over and ruined the fun for me almost overnight... A competitive loss is one that I can surely deal with, hell I died many many times in this game. It is part of the game, BUT dying to the same standing still healing spammer with damage shields and defensive stances was just plain boring... Vortex was the only game that kept my attention, but even that got ruined by balance issues and basically turned into a team deathmatch type of game where I would see people run right PAST a friggin crystal JUST to try and fight for kills using the same pre-made skill set... I could have seen this game do better had it A) Given the players a REASON to fight (I dunno, perhaps a little territorial map where a win pushes control in on sides favor) B) A couple of factions or groups.. Even if I would be allowed to fight ANYONE, belonging to a bigger team with a bigger mission or reason would boost everyones competitive nature as WELL as encourage some team work in some situations.. And the biggest of all C) BALANCE of skills and a better skill system.. The whole idea of "UAA" really just ruined things for me, as I figured the only reason we were gaining this "Essence" at all was to progress and get more better skills. JUST to find out they were selling an unlocker on their site for ALL skills to be available? .... UAA should have never happened, and I think the skills should have been the type that I see in alot of foriegn mmo's where the actual skill gains exp as it is used during battle, which means there could bemore room for strengths and weaknessess and not just one way to win in the end... Just my two cents.. But i'm never one of these people who scream " Failure failure failure" and then dedicate my life to preaching and convincing people why not to play a game (see them all the time on this website.) Hell we are all human and we do what we want to do, to each their own. But 'm explaining the reason for which I had to give this game up and move on.. |

MMO populations rising FASTER then WoW because "Sex Sells"???
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/07/08 6:46:00 PM
lol.. virtual sex... I just don't see where the satisfaction comes from.. They are animated figures of geometry..lol.. SL is pretty lame to me, and for it to even be considered an mmo is kinda misleading.. But I guess I can't blame the makers of SL for it, I'm pretty sure they never PLANNED for their virtual world to be turned into a sexual playground, but it just goes to show, all day and everyday we as humans are thinking about sex.. Give us the power, and we will turn every game into an orgy. lol.. |

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes: Accounts Re-activated for New Year
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/07/08 1:51:10 AM
What a brilliant reply from the guy above! Thats exactly what I say about this game, and why I enjoy it so much.. But first impressions mean the world to most people, and no matter how polished and spit shined the game ever becomes it will NEVER be good enough for most of the "first-impression" bashers, but it's apparent that the game doesn't want nor is SOE trying to attract those "first impression" haters.. Now that all the losses have been basically cut the foul bunch of the player base has gone on to other things and now that the game has already gone as low as any game could possibly go without completely wiping out, Vanguard has no where to go but up.. And for the ones with eyes, we can clearly see the improvements...

I used to play CoH madly, and I have to say even though this gameplay type doesn't interest me as much as it used to, an expansion would certainly spark my interest a little.. But I think the best type of expansions they could make could be little packs based on each archetype. These little expansion packs could be sold for 10 dollars each and have things like new power sets and costume peices as well as UNIQUE enhancements for each archetype that add different effects when used.. They could even go as far as to introduce new missions that have a unique set of enemies for each archetype and a storyline to follow if one chooses... They could call it like "Tales of Heroes and/or Villains" and a sub title for each archetype.. For 10 bucks and a few peices of worthy content, it could definitely work.. |
