I was in the same position about a year back when I thought AoC was to come out in october. Here is my system.
- Windows Vista 64 home Premium
- Nvidia nForce 680i sli Motherbboard
- BGF 8800 GTX 768 Mb
- 8 Gig RAM DDR 2 800, 4 x 2
- Intel Q6600 @ 2.4 Ghz cpu
- SB X-fi extreme audio
- 2 x 35 gig raptor 10500 rpm in raid 0, only AoC runs on these disks
- 2 x 320 gig sata in raid 0 for all the rest in 4 partitions
- LG 226 WTX widescreen monitor
I have all this in the biggest Thermatake case I could get at the time with the biggest water cooled system.I also bought a battery backup to protect all that nice hardware. Also, cpu and RAM were upgraded from dual and 4 gig a couple weeks after i got in beta. Also I have nothing overclocked yet. I wanted to see after launch first as I prefer stability to mad performance. :)
My in game performance. I run the game since Feb in closed beta with everything maxed out except full shadow and no AA. With AA bloom is just not good in high enough resolution and full shadow seems to increase the crashes. I was to wait for the DX10 client to put that and see. Even at start in beta I could very often play for 10+ hours without a single crash. I can run through any zone without a single stuttering and sprinting with a horse using all my stamina once the shader file is built. Loading time are anywhere from 5 to 30 seconds depending on zones.
That system is 1 year old so I am guessing you can get some of the pieces cheaper than I paid for them or even a best one for same price.

This is how MMO world works and you accept it when you press that "I accept" button. Might want to read that agreement next time.

Hey I got a great idea! All of us (the great community of AoC) write our schedule and send it to funcom so they can plan downtime to accomodate hundreds of thousanfs of peoples so that everyone have the server up when they want to play the game. :p
You want to know how AoC is? Buy the game, play it and have fun. This is the only good way. :)
To all the peoples that base their FACTS on things like "I heard"....well.....that game is simply a masterpiece to me.
Missing content? I think not....siege battle is there....player cities are there, crafting is there and I personnally know enough quest around the world in the game to go from level 1 to level 75 without grinding any mobs. :p
Is there bug? Yes there is, it is a MMO. The day any MMO stop to have bugs is the day they stop adding contents and it is also the day they start going down. The thing is, AoC was the best beta I ever experienced and it is also the best pre-launch I ever experienced and as of right now, I can say it will be tomorrow the best launch I will have ever experienced.
See you in Hyboria game lover! :)

Yes that game is the most beautifull game I have yet played, as a MMO anyway. I play with DX10 enabled and everything at max and I am still amazed at some of the view I get in some places. :)
I hope we get shader 4 soon!
This game is the first MMO that I dont start with a mage or a healer. Probably because the melee feels so much like a real fighting technique where you have most of the control over each swing your character does. I say most because of the combo, you can interrupt combos but why would someone want to do that and lose the amazing damage they do? :)
Among the classes I prefer :
1 - Barbarian 2 - Priest of Mitra 3 - Conqueror
I have a similar rig but I dont understand the choice of XP 64 instead of a version of Vista 64. If you like good graphics and get the best performance for that 8800 GTX (what I have too) you should consider Vista 64. XP is DX9 and you will never get the best performance of a DX10 card with DX9. I am telling you this simply because I have the 2 and Vista can manage my system much smoother than XP can.
In any case, dont listen to all what peoples say about that game, wait on launch date and judge for yourself. I am a game lover and play games for over 30 years. There is no bad game they are all made to be enjoyed and have fun. If you dont have fun playing one, you should not play it.
See you in game! :)
