I don't think they are going for "complete" server resets.

After sieging the opposing realms Cap city, it only resets the RvR area as they push your forces back and allow the entire RvR battle to begin over again midway between the cities in the mediating zone.

Scenarios 101

Scenario Basics

  •
  • All Scenarios are timed and come to an end after 15 or 20 minutes.
  •
  • All Scenarios are score-based up to 500 points. Doing various things within the Scenarios, such as killing players or possessing an artifact, will give your Realm points.
  •
  • You win if you have the most points at the end of Scenario OR if your team gets to 500 points first.
  •
  • All Scenarios have a universal resurrection timer. In other words, when you die, you may be able to resurrect within a few seconds or you may have to wait a bit (up to 30 seconds). However, if a buddy resurrects you, you’re back in action immediately.
  •
  • All Scenarios have a population cap. For the most part, this ranges from 12-on-12 to 24-on- 24.
  •
  • All Scenarios are bracketed to pit you against players of relatively the same level.
  •
  • Within the Scenarios, Realms are represented by colors. Red is Destruction. Blue is Order. White is Neutral.

Highpass Cemetary - Highpass Cemetary is a 12-on-12 Scenario in Tier 3 Chaos vs. Empire. Anyone between the levels 18-40 can hop in this Scenario and fight amongst the headstones.

Nordenwatch - Nordenwatch is a 12-on-12 Scenario in Tier 1 Chaos vs. Empire. Anyone between levels 1-12 can hop in this Scenario and duke it out.

Stone Troll Crossing - Stone Troll Crossing is a 12 vs. 12 scenario in Tier 2 Chaos vs. Empire. Anyone between levels 7 and 23 can hop in this Scenario and duke it out.

Talabec Dam - Talabec Dam is a 12 vs. 12 or an 18 vs. 18 scenario in Tier 3 Chaos vs. Empire. Anyone between levels 18 and 40 can jump into this scenario and put up their best fight.

Unfortunately still doesn't seem to answer what range the level brackets are, surely it's not 18-40 so there has to be more bracketing in there. Relatively in the same level is such an ambiguous way og putting it it's hard to tell.

I could see doing 4 levels like in Daoc but that would make so many brackets and I have a hard time imagining Tier 4 being broken up into several brackets, at least scenario wise.

    I'm guessing the RvR zones will be 1-10 11-20 21- 30 and 31-40.

The scenarios seem to be laid out differently and not have to do with certain tier RvR zones exclusively.

Who knows? I guess we will find out when they release the game.

Thats nice assuming DAoC will be the same size as Warhammer Online though. Warhammer will bring many new people to the genre. The official warhammer site gets about 60k hits per month, but we all know the game is played and miniatures are brought by many more. A lot of these people will come online to play this game.

We can't tell if the DAoC model will work with an estimated 5 times as many subscriptions as that game imo.

Is it fair for one unofficial site to have all the devs post there?

The Warhammer community is more than capable of running multiple fan forums.

The devs understand this and have decided to let things unfold as they may. Look at the bright side, Mythic will have more time to focus on in-game additions and improvements rather than have to mop up the forums floors day in and day out.

This is where you've gone wrong. WoW is PvP and WAR is RvR. They play out differently.

RvR battles do not always rely on numbers, they rely on skill and organization.

(Somewhat off-topic example - (if you have played Planetside) The TRx folks on -Emerald server- Planetside could drop 10 players in on a base crawling with NC or VS and easily slaughter the defenders and get straight to the objective. Victory does not lie in numbers.)

    2. Server jumping - Once it's evident that a certain realm is at a disadvantage (either population or skill wise), people will change servers and join the more powerful realm there.

Or join the less populated realm? You understand most players like a challenge, right?

You will often have your better players on the underpopulated side, meaning there will be better organization. Organization easily overpowers a slight population imbalance.

I can easily see realms quickly becoming out of balance and RvR falling apart. Does anyone know if there are going to be safeguards in place to prevent these issues from occurring? If not, I doubt I'll even bother playing WAR.

I think you have a slight case of pessimistinegativititus.

    Yes there are safeguards.

PvE Quests and Scenarios both contribute to the overall RvR Effort. Scenarios of course make sure each side has the same amount of players, and if uneven the spots are filled with NPCs.

Anyway, I doubt total overpopulation of one realm will occur. I have never joined a server simply because I wanted to join the overpopulated realm ( in order to get easy kills off of the underdogs ). Actually, I am having a hard time thinking of players I have met who would pass up a challenge of that sort, but perhaps we run with different groups of people. *shrug*

Second thing I noticed (well it actually was the first) was that the animation seemed... off, stilted but it is a beta so I'm willing to let that slide.

I'll look at this from the view of someone who has played Jedi Knight Academy : (Movie Battles II Mod).

The striking of different body parts, and defending with shield (saber in JKA-MBII) may look good on paper. Unfortunately I suspect there will be some problems for this combat system in an MMO.

    1. Lag - If a player hits a nice lag spike while fighting another, the opponent can simply run around behind and start slashing them in the back of the head.

(Jedi running in place due to lag, Sith runs around behind the Jedi and says "Oooo thank you for the kill, *poke*.")

    2. Exploit - There will be players who run in and spam the same combo attacks over and over.

(Blue style side sweep on JKA - MBII)

    3. The WTF? Factor - If either 1. or 2. is widely experienced in combat, and is continuously determining your fate (for worse and not better), many players may pull some good ole /ragequitting.

Overall, that combat system has a greater chance of causing grief compared to the majority of others.

EA imo killed WAR and Mythic.

So..... I'm guessing you have access to info we all don't have? You know how much they have completed, the quality of what they have completed and how much they still have to work on. (i.e. Scheduling)

Paul Barnett gives some information about the Black Guard in this video.

They use a "Hate" mechanic and the more they hate you the more damage they do towards you.

I remember plenty of grind groups for my last few levels in Daoc where we hardly ever spoke a word.

We as players cannot relate to casting spells and magic in real life. However, we can relate to masculinity, femininity, and sexuality. Many of our basic social norms carry over into the game, so........ Men "make-believing" that they are women is something many gamers cannot relate to.

Though apparently a few can for unknown reasons.

How is it so much harder for people to grasp the concept of a guy playing a girl in a game? You say people can't "relate" to magic because it's not real, but they can "relate" to gender norms.

Ok, by that logic people should have the same reservations about playing an evil character in a game. People can obviously "relate" to the concepts of right and wrong in real life, so therefore shouldn't they want to only play good characters unless they are a psychopath in real life?

As you can see, that line of reasoning doesn't play out. What I think it really comes down to is that our culture is intensely homophobic, so most men are in mortal fear of being associated with anything feminine. To alleviate their paranoia of the public perception of their own masculinity, they adopt a witch hunt mentality wherein they look for evidence of unmasculine behavior in others and thereby draw attention away from their own real or imagined shortcomings. This is the same behavior you see in imperialist societies--the native population is defined as Other and compared unfavorably with the colonial power, effectively making it a foil to validate the oppressors' belief in their own superiority.

I see this behavior for what it is and refuse to buy into it. The fact is I like the way female characters look, and so I play them. I don't do this "for unknown reasons" as you claim, but for simple aesthetic appreciation of the female form. If you'd like to go on pretending that I'm some kind of nutcase that "gamers cannot relate to," I guess that's your choice.

Thank you for not understanding my post, please look again.

This time "make-believe" that I was not calling anyone a nutcase, inferring gamers cannot relate to the player (male playing female), and understand that it is not in any way homophobic to dislike the idea of a that female character you often group with (who claims she is female) is actually of the opposite sex.

Male players who play female characters for looks and make it obvious that they are male do not cause the problems. It is those who roleplay female characters, and attempt to maintain the idea that they are a female throughout thier entire experience online that cause others to become uncomfortable.

Which brings me to the point that it is often nice clarify the reason you play female characters.

"You know, make-believe and all that?" makes it sound like you "make-believe" your a female.

Rather than play a female so that you can look at digital female's body.

(means I replied to you as if you roleplayed female characters, and you replied to me as if I was homophopic toward males playing females for visual preference reasons)

I am sure healers gain public quest influence by aiding thier friends during the public quest.

Nah, don't worry about it, you have a 1/3 chance it is 50% female..... Go for it.

Personally, I don't understand the obsession with somone's real identity in an online game. And if you were 100% certain someone was a female, what then?

How do you know she's not 70 years old? How do you know shes' not bald? How do you know she's not 300 lbs? None of that matters, as long as she's female?

I want you to be generally polite, fun to chat with, not ninja loot, and not get my party wiped. I also hate need before greed whiners. Other than that, I don't care who you are in real life. I'm not going to meet you for beer, or go see a movie with you. I just want to play the game with you and earn some xp, or go kill some people.

Mmmk, thanks for replying to me about something I wasn't trying to infer..... but........ alright sure.

     EDIT:

Although, I do have some MMO friends that are women. One lives a few hours away from me and we recently rocked out and had a groovy Irish Pre-Saint-Pats-Day time at a Floggin Molly concert. It's always nice to imagine a womans face ( no matter what she looks like ) behind a female character rather than having a weird idea that there is a man in a digital woman's skin ( no matter if it is purely for cosmetic reasons or viewing pleasure ).

Just my personal opinion and preference, so no need to get all uppity
