Ok, thanks for the info. It was just a few lines but enough for preview but the previewer did not even mention it, and that shows incompetence for someone previewing an MMORPG. And what ticks me of is that this seem to happen with alot of previews that MMORPG.COM does, they seem to be terribly biased against PvP if they even fail to acknowledge if it exists or not, like they don't care.
Sadly, I was unable to actually experience the pvp elements of the game..hopefully in the future I'll be able to. This was a very limited first impression, and we're hoping to get more information to you all later with regards to further end game play and pvp! Oh and Lazarus.... "I think what they meant is, you actually have to move to position your character as maybe it doesn't auto position you. For example, you have a guy thats 20 ft away, and you try and use a "smash" ability.. they may be saying, when you use "smash" it doesn't walk you up to them and position you close enough to make the attack. Again this is just speculation on what she may have meant." Thank you for that clarification...your response was dead on. |

What is impressive is how flight isn't just randomly tossed in as a "oh-look.-it's-a-new-feature-we-tacked-on-to-make-this-game unique." When Lineage II opened up some flight to it's players, it was class and race restrictive. I wasn't about to reroll my level 63 SE just to run around with wings. For those who obtained flight through their striders...yeah..that was a goal that MAYBE only a handful of people could grind through leveling their pet and then be the lord of a castle ..sorry..I don't enjoy bleeding eyes :D In AION, the feel of having wings and flying doesn't seem like an add on. Every aspect of the game incorporates flight...gathering aether in the air for crafting, to getting around (your wings are your mount :D). The game also takes into account the landscape. You can't glide uphill (obviously) but there are a lot of hills and rocks set about on moderately flat areas that allow you to get some height so you can glide. Another thing that is neat is the fact that some areas have updrafts. First time I caught one I was like "YES" I can fly forever...well..till I fell to my death when my timer ran out. So many games have tried to incorporate flight but used them as travel from one place to another (Warhammer, WoW). The only comparision to how incorporating flight is..would have been if you could have jousted with your horses in Dark Age of Camelot or something like that. The only thing I am really hoping for is wing customization. Since I'm going to spend a good portion of my game time looking at my wings, I am hoping that I can tweak them the way I want them to look.

Try to keep in mind that this is still beta..and isn't live..lots of tweaks to go still :) Also, as far as "grindy" you also have to consider that as well as FF players coming over you have A LOT of Lineage 2 players who are also chomping at the bit to play this game. From what I've experienced and seen, this is going to be less grindy than L2..which for us is a HUGE BENEFIT. Personally, if you are looking to be max level in a week after release..I mean..Wow..there's another game out there for you. |

I have to agree with the customization. That was one of the HUGEST problems I had with Lineage 2....I looked like every other char! |

Sounds like they are utilizing the same type of indicator that DaoC and Warhammer use to show where the action is. |

Well, one of the biggest reasons is localization. And honestly...I would rather that they do the complete overhaul (which is what they are doing) instead of slapping a quick translation on the material and shipping it. For those of us who have played games where they did just that (presto chango translation done)..we're pretty happy they are taking the time to do it right. edit: Still doesn't mean we don't want it now though! |

I had a chance to make a character at PAX last year, and I have to agree that the customization is great without being over the top. I made a character so short that she came to the knees of one of the other guys I was playing with. I honestly think that the choices are going to be such that you can make your character pretty unique. |

I tend to agree with those of you who are drawn to beautiful landscapes. I love finding areas that are just begging to be made into wallpaper or incorporated into a video. The HUGEST thing for me though is a sense of achievement and a community that you get when you play a game that isn't on 'easy mode'. Someone mentioned grindfest (a la Lineage 2). While gaining even just 2% into level was almost painful, I was prouder to hit level 40 in Lineage 2 than I was when I hit max level in other games I've played. If Aion keeps some of the sense of achievement and reliance on a tight guild structure to get things done..I'll be a happy camper :) |
