I played for 30 minutes last night, there was nothing remotely sandboxy about the game, in fact maybe most linear MMO I've tried in years.  Is this just the tutorial?  Is there a way to skip the tutorial?  Does the world open up hugely after this?  When does that happen?  How much of a "sandbox" is the game after that point?

Thanks so much!

Archeage is a sandbox. Just bc you CHOSE to play it like WoW, doesnt mean its not a sandbox. You are obviously of the generation of gamers created by hand-holding mmo's. Ive leveled 3 toons to 50 and i havent killed a single mob since i hit lvl 15 on my first toon.  Sandbox doesnt mean you cant play it like a linear WoW kiddie... it just means you dont have to. The fact that you chose to play it for 30 mins, chose to play it just like you would have played WoW, by following breadcrumb quests,  then come running here to complain, tells us a lot.

Been a member of these forums for 10 yrs or so I've seen my fair share of hate threads. For some reason Wildstar seems to have more than its fair share but why?
Ive played every major MMO since EverQuest in 97 and honestly Wildstar is among the better of them. Is it perfect? Far from it. It is better than anything released in the last few years hands down.

Everquest: First and foremost great game for its time.
DAOC: Great RvR overall solid game.
WoW: Great in the early years til they dumbed it down.
Aion: Bot infested waste of space.
WaR: Fun game was sad to see it go.
AoC: Fun game but no longevity.
GW2: Nice graphics but a fail game.
FFXIV: Great graphics, fun game but lacking Endgame.
AA: Solid Game if you like PvP. A little light on PvE.
Wildstar: Cartoony Graphics, Great combat system and a lot of Endgame.

Honestly in my opinion I think what hurt Wildstar the most was WoW. Not in the way you think. WoW hurt the entire MMO genre because it made players lazy. You could face roll any and all content in WoW, so when Wildstar came out it was a challenge players couldn't master.
I see it on a daily basis. If you pug any dungeons in Wildstar there are always fail players who stand in telegraphs, miss interrupts and just are overall bad players. If you ask most of them, they will tell you how epic they were in WoW.

Wildstar is a challenge. That is the main problem with the population now. People are lazy and don't want to put in the effort to do mechanics. They want to spend 20 minutes face rolling a dungeon and get their Epic Lootz.

People are going to post behind me and talk about bugs and bots and exploits as to why the game is bad. If you've been following the game at all, Carbine has all but eliminated the Bots, Fixes bugs on a weekly basis and same with exploits.

So when you talk about how bad Wildstar is, maybe you should look at yourself and see if maybe your skills just weren't up to par to handle the game. Its easy to find fault with a game you cant master. So at the end of the day will Wildstar survive? Who knows, I hope it does. Im having a blast playing it. Working through GA atm and its as challenging a Lich King Heroic was. Gotta love a challenge.

i TLDR'd this.. skipped down to the end to see the meat of the post consisted basically of

"LOL IF YOU DONT LIKE IT< IT CUZ YOU SUCKZORZ"

maybe we actually just take issue with your pleading of the facts. Im sorry if you think that it was a great combat system that took epic proportions of skill. I instead only found a highly advertised game with tons on the surface, nothing underneath, and a combat system that required no skill and lacked depth due to limited activatable skills. couple that with a quest system that was so bad, you actually were sad you weren't grinding mobs, and you got yourself a game that was truly cringeworthy after only 2 weeks of playing it and lvl capping.

So I get that itch to play FPS every once in a while. So the past couple weeks, I've played Planetside 2, APB Reloaded, CoD Black Ops and BF4. Turns out, every single one of them has hackers / cheaters. People that can't play an FPS without having to cheat and it really is crazy how rampant it is. Punkbuster, Hackshield and every other anti cheat system fails cause they simple patch fixes to stop them. No one gets banned for cheating anymore. Proven fact when I turned in 2 separate videos of a guy hacking in BF4 almost 6 months ago and he's still playing the same account. So, I'm done wasting time and money on FPS and TPS games since they are guaranteed to attract cheaters.

i thought screaming HAXXORZ stopped being cool in 2011.

AA end game is simple : ZERO

You do realize that end-game dungeons running and raiding is not the only option in MMORPGs? Right?

Dungeons are as easy as they can be. Like give keyboard to dog and cat easy.

Because ArcheAge is not about running dungeons at all, imagine that?

No pve raiding for bosses, you have some world bosses easier then the dungeons, for those , you might just give  your keyboard to a fly or a moskito if you see one arround .

Again - raids and PvE bosses are NOT the focus of ArcheAge - I mean does EvE suck because it doesn't have PvE raids?

Its a farmville 3.0 , but you can kill others to steal their chickens and plants.

/facepalm

ArcheAge is as wowish as every other traditional mmo out there.

The only difference is the crafting and trading in AA is based on a sandbox idea.

Dont type huge walls of texts blaming old mmos for the demise of new ones and then use AA as the one making the difference and causing controversy.

MMOS that live under WoWs shadow saw it coming. You cant beat WoW at its own game, they will beat themselves in time. AA made something diffrerent (craftin/trading) but the majority of the game is traditional mmorpg

EDIT: AA started on the right path to break the wow cycle, but then they became another wow like game with generic features.

Prototypical response of the "hold my hand" class of today's gamers. Just bc you CAN play it like WoW, doesnt mean IT IS like WoW. The fact that you choose to play the sandbox like a themepark and then complain its like WoW tells me you dont belong there. AA is as much like WoW as is EvE online. ... HEY ITS GOT QUESTS! Instead of thinking your own opinion is somehow more pertinent than the OP's, maybe you should just try reading. The very community which was killed by the introduction of WoW and its "features" is that same community thats ALIVE AND WELL in AA. Does AA have thempark elements.. sure, it has a topical quest line to allow solo leveling to 50. Does it on the other hand punish those who dont participate in the community, yes, and in fact very harshly. Few other MMO have done this since WoW's explosion, and THAT is why AA is causing controversy. Dont kid yourself kid, AA is not a wow clone, no matter how hard you wish it to be ( otherwise what fuel would you have for your troll posts)

They already know this game is going to fail, that's why they are trying to rush release. Milk as much money as they can. I'm not giving them a cent, but I'll still play!

Rush? They delayed release by one year. This game is not going to fail, it failed already.

the fact that it failed in Korea should actually make you very hopeful that it may not fail in America/Europe.

Dammit I work away every second week, so I had a 50/50 chance of being home for head start. And, naturally, I'm away so I've lost my head start advantage.

*sigh*

Contact me in game.. ill have 12 houses set up in prime spots all over the world within the first 2 hours of the launch. Ill gladly sell you a spot for a Harpoon Clipper design.

I may try it, but saw a video of it, and the tab targeting combat... meh

But looks gorgeous, and liked the way they manage mounts.

I like how kids find it so cool to have an opinion such as this. Hop on that band wagon folks, its "tab-target" bashing time. Last two games to try their hand at making non-tab targetting a "feature" ended up sucking balls. It almost like "i hate tab targetting" is just an extension to the "i hate wow cus its cool to hate wow meme"

And by the way.. i totally take your view seriously when a major game feature that you HATE is somewhat balanced out by "the cool way they do mounts".

I wonder how the Korean and the Russian communities feel about LP. You think they'd agree with the title in this thread?

Honestly.. Im hoping that Korean Gamers feel terribly about LP.. usually games that succeed in Asia fail in the west. The ONLY reason i have hopes for this game is bc it was underperformed in general in Korea. Here's to not giving a crap about what Asian Gamers think....

do you make it a habit to know the smell that men's genitalia gives off?

I'm not against the labour system itself. I just think it could lighten up a little, so I don't have to waste labour points to determine what my quest reward is. That, and opening purses - the rest of it is pretty reasonable.

I still think you'll see bots though. They can never get rid of all of them.

Well. thats nice and all.. however there is a built in proficiency system that os quite integral and tied into Identifying gear and opening packs. It raises your chance of the item you uncover being of a higher rarity. I find this cool, and for the pittance of labor it takes to ID your bow.. its worth it. Identifying magic items is a STAPLE of D&D and im glad its found its way into this game in a meaningful way (not as a gold sink scroll item)

Judging from past asian game performances.. maybe the fact that it sucked in Korea is PRECISELY the reason Trion feels it will do well in the west.
hell yes! only reason im not putting in 16 hours a day is because first year law school is taking all my fucking time
Take a look at MMO's that actually survive without having to pump out crap content every 6 months. They survive bc of things like a meaningful crafting/economy that survives and players make use of. Nothing fucks up economies more than farmers and rampant flooding of the market along with hyper inflation. Archeage realizes this is trying hard to rectify this issue with 2 fixes. One is the APEX system which attempts to mirror the PLEX system in eve in order to curb illegitimate real money transactions; the second is this labor system where you re limited in how much you can put into the economy. This is a free to play game, where one can feasibly create hundreds of accounts and farm, you can see why the economy will very quickly be destroyed. By limiting how many labor points free accounts can get, you curb the farmers, and at that same time, reward valid players by creating a system where their labor points now have value. Value with which they have the choice in house to use them in game. It is no coincidence that there are many striking simillarities between the EVE's market and AA's attempt.

landed in alpha a few days ago. The game is about 10% done. They've basically just thrown all the basic minerals and gems into the world at the surface so people can get in and start mining.. and using basic crafting.  There is no substance because WE ARE ALPHA TESTING FEATURES AS THEY ROLL THEM OUT. thats what an alpha is in case people have forgotten and seem to think its just a free game to play.

this being said, this game is amazing and has more potential to do things than anything on the market or in development right now. Ive been playing MMO's for 16 years, back since UO in 98. Ill tell you this, IMO, NOTHING has gotten me this excited with such little substance in a long, long time. The game, like i said is about 10-15% in, and ITS STILL A BLAST. Imagining where they can go from here.. it can only get more fun. I HATED EQ, and EQ2, and basically shat on the entire SOE world of games besides Planetside 1. I was a hardcore UO,Daoc, Shadowbane player and SOE was just a giant Smedly vagina in my eyes. But ill be the first to say it.. out of all the games we see being developed right now.. ESO, Wildstar, indy games.. Ive played most of them, and THIS GAME ,, this game right here, is the one to really watch. If you want innovation and next gen, this is the game.

The factions are still completely intact. There will still be FACTION pride. You can just play any race and still belong to ONE FACTION. You arent FACTIONLESS>. you are part of a FACTION, just not limited to the RACES OF THAT FACTION. I hope i was clear enough for you. Really, this shouldnt be needed at all bc just basic READING SKILL should have been sufficient to understand this.

so.. after NINE YEARS of playing a game, all it took was a terrible whine on mmorpg.com and a few trolls to get you to REALIZE that it WASNT THE GAME FOR YOU. You would think that .. i dunno... THE NINE YEARS of sucking and not having fun would have led you to that conclusion.

And the whole Mack thing.. i think thats hilarious. You're chilling in a ore field in prolly what, .5 space? You're most likely sitting mining AT the warp in spot. You see a frig warp in on top of you.. and you most likely continue mining bc after NINE YEARS, you havent figured it out. This is all presuming of course you werent just mining afk in your mack, waiting for your 35k ore hold to fill.

I wouldnt be surprised if your next post was a rant about how you gave 300 mil to a guy who promised to double it, and OH NOES.. HE DIDNT DO IT!! its dos sneaky devs out there looking specifically for YOU.

Wizard 101 has a decent story and hands down... the most in depth pet breeding system in any game. Crafting is lackluster but useful at least.. oh yeah.. it takes like 3 mins to install and runs on a pentium 2 350 mgHz machine.
Time is NEVER unequal between people. We all have 24hrs to work with each and every day. We dont all have equal access to money, but when it comes to time.. there is NOTHING that is more universally equal. If you choose to play less, then you are choosing to be not as high lvl or not as geared out. This is not a real life advantage... this is your Choice. I cant CHOOSE to have more money ( well.. not directly). So yes time is money..... but the fact that my time might not be worht as much in terms of money as your time.. that advantage is now taken out of the equation. All we have left is the same 24 hrs to work with. Play IRL or play the game, its your CHOICE.
not sure what kind of fps your rig will give you, however, now that you are buying a decent computer, you should at least understand the difference between low fps and lag. lag has nothing to do with your computer... lag is also known as latency.. which is caused by a bad internet connection.
