Isnt its boring? Let say i'm a pve hardcore, i dont like pvp, so grinding item for me in pve is not a problem. But what if i am a pvp hardcore? If everyone when they enter WvW or pvp match and have access to all skills and item, wouldnt that make it pointless to pve? I could just jump right into pvp and fight with all the goodstuffs? In other game, if u play 1 month, and then u pvp with a newb, u will deffinitely win becuase ur higher lvl and have better stuff. In GW2 if everyone is equal in PvP, shouldnt it be unfair to those who play more than other people?

sorry, im new to guildwar.

You are gaming for the wrong reasons.  You should probably uninstall everything and spend your remaining days kicking puppies and such.

The made me chuckle.  +1 internets to you sir.

OP, the longer you play, the more "cosmetic" gear you'll have over your competition.  That is one reward.  Not stat boosting but cosmetic, so you still get to show off that you've been playing longer (and better) than much of the competition.

My brain works similarly to the OP.  I looked at my map for the next empty heart and made sure it filled up.  By doing just personal story and filling heart quests in my own starting area, I found that I didn't have enough content to level up to do my next personal story quest.  Thankfully, there were three starting zones to complete heart quests in so I was able to find plenty of content to do.

I'm just not the kind of player that can just run around with no purpose and 'look' for stuff.  I end up running in circles and wasting precious gaming time that I never seem to get enough of these days.

The best advice I can give to break that habit (which I had as well coming into GW2), is to group up with people and just follow them around.  See where they go and how they progress.  I was extremely surprised at the amount of content I missed in the starter zones because I was only sticking to the heart task path (which isnt the way this game was designed to play).

People investing in a product with their own money upsets you?  Why do you even care OP?  Because projects that couldn't be funded other than word of mouth are utilizing mediums like kickstarter to get a chance at being completed?  Because some people have excess money in these hard times because they saved and invested properly are now wanting to spend some of it into something that interests them?

I'm actually confused at what the issue and point of this thread is.  The kickstarter page of this project does not dupe you, doesn't steal your bank account information, nor force you into concentration camps for not paying.

Point: Who cares what other people want to spend their money on if it doesnt negativly effect yourself.

IF OP is serious, I feel very sad for his jadedness when it comes to gaming.  Not seeing the positives GW2 is brining to the genre by removing the tedious and bad mechanics that MMO's are notorious for must suck.

Hopefully you find your niche OP.

EvE Online.

The economy, logistics, and production (crafting) in that game are so complex they resemeble real life markets and industry.  Give the free trial a whirl and see if ya care for it.

Engine and server optimization.  We all saw how not having your network optimized come release when Diablo 3 launched a few days back.  A-net knows the first few days NEED to be playable as much as possible to start on the right foot.  The stress test was a baseline for them, and now for these last few months they will try to optmize the crap out of it, and hopefully start using the GPU more.

So imo, GW2 is not quite ready yet, but its close.

I am a long-time fan of Bioware and still hold them in high esteem.  But something went seriously wrong in their macro-design and people are now either unable or unwilling to admit it.

See my previous post! "THE" Bioware no longer exist.

OK ...so it this version of Biowares first MMO. How many developers keep all the same teams forever in the gaming business. Sure..some key figureheads maybe..but the business is transitory at best. Guess what....the Ronald McDonald you see on the commercials isn't the same one from the 1963 or the 70's or last year even. Does this shock anyone?

EAware renamed every EA owned dev house they possiby could "Bioware" to wring every drop of money off the reputation Bioware had before EA. They are running the name into the ground. It'll be time for them to buy up another studio soon so they can hide mediocre devs behind anther reputable name to churn out some more mediocre games after the name "Bioware" is synonymous with "shit". Which is pretty much already here anyway.

Command and Conquer by "Bioware" is a good example coming up. ROFLMAO

Nailed it.  This is EA's business scheme.  Stop being ignorant fools and look at their track record.  They buy names, make $, and run studios into the ground.  The only way to stop the machine is to stop praisin it, defending it, and buying its products.

Bad MMO's generate bad communities.

Good MMO's generate bad communities.

Internet communities are bad because they have no face or risk.

Point being, SWTOR is dropping faster than a tied up swoop bike because they went for fast cash and targeted the casual market.  However, subscription mmo's require a constant hardcore base to keep afloat, and SWTOR did not implement the features to keep those hardcores subbing, thus we now are witnessing the leaving of the casuals to newer games like Diablo 3.

It needs to go free to play to stay alive.  Unfortatnly were talking about EA here, and Warhammer Online STILL isnt truly free to play yet.....

A Single player game franchise transitioning into the MMO genre via the Hero Engine.

I will pass on another TOR hyped up piece of crap.

sigh

I'm not in the beta so I don't know, just curious how that compares.

Personally, I'm not banking on any games open world PvP until planetside 2 comes out, but this game seemed to have a pretty close approximation of it to me.

Yes, I just logged for the night.  Its much more open than any other themepark that has open world pvp.  OP is an idiot.

If you need a statistical advantage = the amount of time you put into this game (like every other themepark on the market), this is not the game for you.

If you want something different than the majority of gear treadmill themeparks that soak up the current market, this is the game for you.

Pretty simple.  Anet has stuck to their vision of changing the mmo scene, and I applaud them for that.  GW2 will not please everyone, but hey, you have tons of other options if getting more numbers means that much to you.

I really hope I can enjoy Guild Wars 2 for a long time to come - but I am worried.

The PvP I'm sure I will, not too into PvP in other MMOs because of things like level disparity and everything being about gear - something I don't have to worry about in GW2.

But the PvE, I am sure I will love the level up process but I like raiding and gearing up, getting better stats etc.

It's the only reason I still play WoW.

Started out in MMOs that didn't have levels and gear though, so I'm hoping GW2 can reawaken the things I loved about the old games I played.

But can it break me from the gear/raid mold I currently find myself enjoying?

We'll see!

Well Spock you can do what I'm doing.  I enjoy raiding myself, and have developed some really close friends thanks to it.  I raid in RIFT atm, and plan on continue raiding even when GW2 is released.  Will my time be limited, for sure, but I only plan to play GW2 for about an hour a day anyways so its a win win.

LOL! Class warfare in video games?  Really?

Its not about poor and rich...its about who had time and who doesn't.  Itll always be this way,  those who play MMO's more will always have an advantage over those who play less just from having the experience of using their skills longer and understanding the fundamentals better.

Sooo much spectualtion.  Call it what you will, but I will defeat anyone who uses these "convience" items any day of the week.  You have mroe traits and skills than me?  Doesn't matter because I will outclass you with knowing my class better than you know yours.  Can't wait to steamroll all the people who think the cashshop items are going to give them an advantage.  Your tears will be delicious.

So ultimately you have to ask yourself do I need to buy anything from the cash shop to make this a complete game or to continue the game. No you don't. Do any of the cash shop items give you a competitive advantage? Not that I'm aware of although I'm sure some will to try to spin it otherwise.

Time convenience items are a competitive advantage as far as I'm concerned, give me infinite time and I will achieve everything and rule the world. I have sympathy for people who don't have much time to spend on games and feel like they get left behind in MMO's. They will be left even further behind by people who have alot of time and use time convenience items ontop of that so it doesn't improve anything for them.

I simply cannot understand why anyone would want a cash shop with anything more than cosmetic items unless they intend to pay money to gain a competitive advantage. You pay for the game and then you pay to achieve things faster, bypass content and gain a competitive advantage over other players, makes no sense for me and I want none of it.

"Want", probably very few people want one... "mind" that's something else, at least in my case.

I don't have as much time as I used to (married with a baby and going back to college do that to you). Will I be pass over by people spending more time/money/both in the game? Yep, definitively.... and so what?. I understand it might be a problem on games like WoW, or for people that need to feel they're the first to get to the cap... me, I just don't mind. Besides, they won't get any advantage on structured PvP, and if they get any in WvW I won't be fighting against them but besides them (and against another servers that probably has just as many people spending just as much time/money/both), won't give them that much of an advantage in dynamic events either, since they scale difficulty up and scale you down of you overlevel them.

So I don't particularly "want" this item store and most likely will never buy anything off it (not with money at least)... but I don't mind it either. In any MMO there are always people that either by spending more time or money level faster, people that level slower, and everywhere in between, don't really see a problem with it, from my point of view, at least.

Its gunna be a great feeling when people like you and I destroy the folks in WvW who spend all tis money because they believed they "had" to to be viable.  God I cannot wait for the amountof butthurt to ensue.

I cannot wait to thrash all you in WvW who buy these so called "must-have" items from the cash shop.  How salty will you all feel that I didn't pay a dime, and yet still destroyed you.

Lol well said....same here.  I can control myself from spending widly on shinies.  This whole argument is just a personal dillehmia people need to get over.

What game play affecting items are in EvE, WoW, and GW2? The only one I have a problem with is Diablo 3 simply because of how gear based of a game it will be. I would hardly consider cosmetic items in EvE game play changing in any way, unless you need a monocle to fly your ship.

You actually don't know do you?

In EVE you buy PLEX which can be sold for large amounts of ISK. This ISK can be used to buy ships, materials, blueprints, upgrades, etc.

In WoW you can now buy tradeable Guardian Pup mini-pets. These can be sold on the AH for Gold, which can then be used for gear, consumables, gems, mats, etc

In Diablo 3 you can literally buy items and characters directly with cash.

In GW2 you can now buy Gems using cash and sell them in-game for Gold. This gold can be used to buy gear, crafting materials, consumables, guild influence. In addition, you can buy loot bags and gameplay bonuses (xp, karma, rare item chance, etc) directly from the cash shop.

OP, so when has it been OK to allow gold selling companies to take money that could/should be going to the game maker?

See, that is the question people like you refuse to think about.

It is NOT possible to stop gold selling unless the game maker themselves makes it availible.

It is 100% better for the game maker to get that money so they can reinvest it back into the game.

It is 100% better to have a game with no gold seller spam knowing that anyone that wants to spend their money is not only getting it from the game maker, but the money from it is going to help keep the game going.

This argument is laughable.

Yes, RMT will always happen. The issue is how widespread do the developers allow it to become.

There is a huge difference between knowing that a few people will find ways to cheat and the developers openly endorsing it.

Wait wait you already know what they are selling?  You're breaching your NDA for the beta?  You're playing the game right now?  Damn I'm jeaous........*all speculation that goes against the words that Anet has already said*

None of them have the same system as the others, so your generalizations are innacurate.
