Final Fantasy to me has been games that no matter the gameplay is all about story.  The franchise is legendary so any gamer whether they have ever picked up a copy of any of the games will at least know the legend that is Final Fantasy.  This is why I love the franchise, for all the good and the bad both in personal experience and in reviews which are not always accurate for every player, we have a series of game that shows no sign of dying out and with every new game the world expands.  Just like our individual stories here on earth we can experience the stories of dozens of other characters in a world that is evolving and becoming more rich in lore.
well eve online is the only subscription based mmo where the total number of subscriptions goes up every year.
NcSoft has done massive wrong in the past, and this closure sucks and seems too fishy because maybe a month before the announcement of the closure Paragon Studios was showing us players new content new costume sets etc...  If NcSoft was going to close it down, because it was losing money they would have given some sort of warning down the line at least to the devs so they wouldn't be investing time into something that would never see the light of day?  It would be like if Ford was going to shut down for good but said even though we're not going to actually sell anything keep making cars and expending resources.
That's the thing, Aion is losing NcSoft money, CoH was making them money it was turning a descent profit...  And they turned down offers, and not like here's 10 grand, if I remember right, and I don't remember where I read it, might have to re-google it, but some company did offer them millions for it, and for a game that they are scrapping, the potential profit means squat.
NcSoft got a few solid cash offers on CoH, they turned them down, yet in a few public releases said they couldn't find buyers...  What I don't get is Aion is losing them cash, CoH was actually making them money...from a business standpoint that is corporate suicide.  Is NcSoft a Publically traded company?  I'd buy a hundred shares in order to go to a shareholder meeting and ask, so why did you shut down a program that was making money and keep one that is leaking cash?
I play, pay the subscription fees, and can say 100% that my friends who game whether they are hardcore WoW heads or Rift people or whatever mmo of the day they are playing, they have tried TSW and find nothing wrong with combat or story or progression.  They find it to be refreshing and there are places that you find very dark with things that aren't really there moving in the shadows(or at least they might not be there).  The only things that need work are all the buggy quests and a better way to organize inventory.  And with the factions I have ran quite a few "faction" quest lines and can say that sure I wish there were more early on (but I'm barely into egypt)  and feel this is far superior to SWTOR and combat is way better than Tera.  my 2 cents, but a solid game if more people would give it a shot.

The shit bethesda made is just embarrassing.

Ya, im sure there real embarassed for resurecting a dead franhcise into something even more succesful, by making fun to play games.

Better than what interplay did, or does your selective memory make you forget the l;ast fallout game that came out under interplay?

Fallout Tactics was horrible, but fallout 1 and 2 were far better overall than the fps crap that bethesda released simply because they lacked the humor and creativity that was fallout, and they were not bad games, fallout 3 and new vegas were groundbreaking, but it had the fallout name and shared some similiarites but if you can't get what was the original "core" of fallout back in might as well dump the crap and start from scratch.

WOot, congradulations to Bethesda. We may actually have a chance at a decent FO MMO.

If it is anything like the FPS crap Bethesda has done to the series, count me out.

I hear you there, the fps fallouts were descent and if they weren't the "fallout" series it might have been accepted better by me, but where is the max gore perk, and the humor, the truly wacky random encounters with things like a shuttle team from the enterprise or the velvet elvis painting next to the ufo.  If they release a fallout mmo and it's not like it should it'll bomb by true fans of the IP.

Eve....still has a huge subscriber base, at any given time they see between 30-45k people logged in.  People are jumping to conclusions here.  People want to talk about servers?  Everquest, the first everquest is still pay to play, still has content released(albeit very slowly now) and still has a handful of servers with a descent population.  Now, if in the 15 or so years since everquest launched it's still around, can we assume the same for any current mmo?  it's just overreacting.

Really?  Then EXPLAIN TO ME why someone who is a IT Security Specialist who has a special set of programs that tell him when ANYTHING from a cookie to a packet of information to a installation of a program hits his harddrive(whether it be a keylogger or winamp).  This guy uses completely random numbers and letters for passwords and every site he uses a different username and password which he only keeps on a paper pad he stores in his locked desk.  Now he got his WoW account hacked not just once but twice.  So to say it was HIS fault is like saying that our current president is responsible for every action that every president that came before him did or any legislation that was put into place.

No, hackers are unstoppable, it's the build a better mousetrap.  Hackers, at least "real" ones do what they can to break through and leave a note or something to say "YO!  We got in here are some of the holes, FIX and we'll be back again to break through another unprotected area".  It's not a matter of how secure or how good your personal web-security people are, if a hacker wants in and they are good enough they will get in.  The ONLY way anything is secure on a computer is one that has NO connection to a outside line/another computer/internet/wifi/remote access of any kind.  Then it's a breaking and entering thing in order to get physical access to the computer.  It's gonna happen, I'm sure blizzard has had it happen whether or not it was leaked to media or even alerted to their subscriber base is unknown(I just don't know/remember if anything ever hit the media).  What your looking at is another in a long string of problems that will plague the internet gaming community.

for me, I look at the wow I started playing, and the wow that came out with wrath and I look at everything and go all the massive changes people bitch about are changes the community bitched about wanting...It's not a 50/50 split but blizzard is doing in small doses what they need to which is listen to their player base and fix what truly needs to be.  It got too dumbed down for me or too easy however you want to put it, since I remember when it was more of a challenge than it is now.  It's not a bad mmo, and there are dozens of reason why it sucks and dozens of reasons why it's great it's all in player perspective.

quite seriously, it's not just they get in legal trouble judges can say ok, it's a felony to possess a computer, cell phone, even go as far as barring any device that can connect to the internet like a PS3 or 360.

What we have here is another MMO, which I will be playing, that is brand new on the market, now comparing it to world of warcraft is fine provided you are comparing it to Vanilla WOW...and not what world of warcraft is today.  You take almost any new mmo, at launch, and look at WOW when it launched and you'll hear people "nothing has had a crappier launch than WOW"  This is roughly true, not necessairly 100% depending on perspective, but the last bit of beta, that was open, is well polished, very little wrong with the game itself.  Only downfall is that Rift to make it look wonderful takes a bit of a computer, but my gaming rig, right now, runs it just fine on "normal", and it looks good, I've seen the "great" graphics and it's really fantastic, but doesn't take much to run it descently.  (AMD x2 64 5200, 3 gig DDR2 Ram, nvidia 9500 GT 1 gig)  It's a unique experience, I love it myself, but I don't know if it's enough unique to keep it around since the MMO world revolves around the comparison to world of warcraft with their cataclysm expansion for any fantasy mmo.

No, WOW was a horrible launch it's heralded as the worst not just here.  You got lucky VERY VERY VERY lucky, or your lying.  Lag in stormwind was so bad you would experience the feeling like your wearing electromagnetic shoes trying to sprint across a steel golden gate bridge and someone keeps flipping the shoes on and off.  People just logged in standing around, zones overfilled with people, queues horrible.  What's potentially the worst, is the game has gone from what it was, a reasonably descent game, after they ironed out those problems, to something I don't want to call a real challenge anymore.  They've increased the level cap, 85, great, now make it harder to HIT 85, REALLY harder, the game is no longer a challenge as a worgen within 2  days of launch at MAX(maybe less I forget what I was told)  hit max level, that's stupid, I understand quick to hit 60 maybe, but they've turned it into something that's too easy.  Eve Online has done some great things, removing learning skills refunding players back those skill points and making the new player experience better by not having them so people aren't stuck training learning when there are cool ships they want to fly but a corp mate says no train learning not that it'll be faster.  I've been playing eve for over 3 years now, it's one of the most solid mmo's I've had the pleasure to play and I've been involved in beta for Aion, Warhammer online, champions online, dozens of Free mmo's, and been a subscriber to everquest, everquest II, Age of Conan, City Of Heroes, DDO, WoW, Final Fantasy XI, and I know there are probably a few I'm forgetting.  But off subject there, really world of warcraft had a horrible launch it was too popular and it took blizzard quite a while to get things settled.  Hopefully their next mmo will be released with lots more stability and implemented with better results.

Ok, I am a former Wow Player, got hacked, no keyloggers no malware nothing my machine is clean, had another guy who has tighter security on his pc than the white house, and got hacked multiple times(prior to the authenticator being a hot ticket item).  Someone was able to get into blizzards system, maybe not the credit card info, but their system.  A friend of mine had his account hacked, during a period the account was OFFLINE due to no payment in the system, the whoever they were took and reactivated his account to use it...this was 3 or 4 months into his inactivity then a few months after went to reactivate his account and saw when it was last turned on and went what the hell...and got an authenticator.  Whether or not blizzard knows about or can stop the internal intrustions on their end I do not know.  For giggles, I created a fake(i.e. one I won't use more than a dozen times) email address and setup a trial to WoW and not a day later got a phishing email about my account being that sort of pins the nail in the coffin that whatever is happening is something with blizzard itself, whether they have the people and/or resources to stop it.

You are right, lots of people have started numerous trials to get it right.  The games core creation has changed since I made my first characters, So your not choosing a package like soldier or engineer, your picking a core race which gives you some basic skills.  To get the game to click easier you want to research the various races.  Predominately the amarr use lasers(turret slots) and have some missile turret (launcher slots).  The Gallente use Hybrid weapons railguns (sniper rifles) and blasters (shotguns).  The gallente have some ships with launcher slots, and most of their ships capable of combat(non industrial ships) have a drone bay.  The gallente are also the only race with multiple ships with drone bonuses.  Both the amarr and gallente rely more on armor tanking which is shown by frequently more low slots to fit armor hardeners(things to boost your armor resistances) and other armor devices like reppers.  The Caldari have the largest number of ships that use more missiles than guns, but their ships do occasionally have turret slots and fit hybrid turrets (based on the bonuses of the ship).  The Minmatar ships use autocannons and artillery which is machine guns and long range cannons, the artillery is really slow to fire but heavy damage usually, and autocannons are relatively fast.  Both minmatar and caldari shield tank.  You'll find the minmatar to be some of the faster overall ships as well.  Once you know roughly for combat what you think will suit you(because you can cross train into anything) then you have to look at what you as a player want to do in eve.  When I started I took a package that allowed me to build stuff loved the idea of the engineer, but realizing that it all cost money to build anything I opted to move into assault frigates(advanced frigates great for blasting through a lvl 1 mission quick).  In moving there, without any guidance I took the little mining frigate I had, the navitas, as I am gallente and started mining veldspar until I had gathered enough to afford an Enyo, the best tech 1 fittings, and the skill book for the ship.  Knowing what I do now, it's far easier for me to gain isk than what I did, but I found a great love for mining.  I spent 3 months roughly in the starter corporation, and from there a guy I had been mining regularly with told me of a old group of friends of his who had just formed a corporation, and told me I should go apply, he was going to also.  That was some 3 years ago, and today I'm still part of the same corporation.  Avalon Project has been my home for a long time, descent group of people, only problem is our US people are not as active and so I'm constantly logged in to find myself alone in corp chat.  So finding a good active corp is also a good idea.  And if what you find isn't right, keep looking, and one of the most important things in finding a corp, is talking to their people finding out some basics, and what kind of requirements they have for your time.  Some corps don't have a set agenda, just if you want to on said day come help do whatever, or do your own thing if you want.  and others have frequently scheduled stuff and expect the majority of people to stop what they are doing if they are on and come.   Knowing what low sec space is, and null sec space is and being able to avoid it especially when using autopilot is good.  And no matter what people tell you, High Sec space is still dangerous.  Hauling sleeper loot and salvage from a wormhole to a trade hub can be dangerous and even warping to 0 gate to gate is dangerous as it doesn't take much for someone to scan your cargo, see a bil isk in stuff and go *gank* and they roll in and scoop they've made 3-600 mil roughly and they might have lost 100 mil *if that*.  Like others have said in the thread, it is a sandbox, you make eve what you want, and given the parameters the game has set, it's easy to get lost just in the numbers of the market and make a killing just as a trader.

Hope this helps,

Bremmon (in-game name)

I was part of the beta for it, it ran funky but welcome to beta.  It's not cancelled, just delayed.

Cryptic laid the groundwork for CoH but let it go to ncsoft. Champions sounded promising in the beginning, but when I beta tested it it was quick for me to see that applying some of the features of world of warcraft for questing and changing the graphics enging so drastically that most of what I saw looked less than appealling .  Some of the highest populated areas in champions are now ghost towns, too many people are either waiting for another super hero mmo or have headed back to CoH.  You give a company a few chances, but they dropped the ball twice and their gem go(CoH).   Friend played Star Trek Online, said ship combat was pretty cool, but everything else seemed poorly planned and that other races were just a novelty to play and were not developed fully, or developed like they wanted which was lame.  The away team stuff sounded descent but it was just as poorly done.  Cryptic though filled with veterans in the gaming industry did not do either title properly.  There are a few good points in both games, but overall as a package it's not worth playing in my opinion.

I would still be playing but twice since it's launch that I am aware of they had massive billing issues.  This last one was just as I started again and was using gtc's and their website shows wal-mart selling them, but sadly they aren't on the shelves here at my wal-mart and I ask the employees and they have no idea what I'm talking about and can't explain why  something advertised to be in their stores isn't.....I stopped playing because I couldn't get gtc's anywhere in town.  The game isn't bad the pve is a little lacking imo, but for pvp it's pretty good compared to pvp in most other games similiar.  I might stretch and see about a prepaid visa for it, to avoid my bank account getting pinged by another billing error, since I love the skaven, but if they are both factions and not just one?  or a new third faction then why should I even bother.
