You know whats funny, with so many peope claiming to hate wow on this site, its just 24/7 wow threads on this site.  Do most of you that claim to hate it secretly play it?      I actually bet my house that the idiots on this site that claim to hate it and then put everyone that plays irt down, actually do play wow.

This thread is nothing about how we hate WoW, we have all returned or started playing for a reason, we are just upset about how the community have turned out.
With the mentality of the general community in the game, it's just no fun, I play MMOs because I like to play together with the players of the community. If they are unfriendly and unhelpful, it kinda spoils it, doesn't it?

Gents.
I didn't say, I hate WoW. The game is great and I like it. My post is just a result from an observation, which I would like to discuss and find out, if it is only on the German server Destromath.
The meaning of an MMORPG for is, and please correct me if I am wrong (which I am sure you will), based on a purely and solid social aspect. Like:
a) Interacting with each other
b) To play together, dive into adventures and find time to help others.
c) To play with an avatar of a real person and to understand how the person behind the avatar influences his behavior.
d) To live and breathe the lore.
..and so on..
Now currently, I have the feeling, that the social is in depression and the we experience the boom of "gear and achievement." I am not my avatar anymore, I am just a number against a benchmark.
And this, this is such a problem already in the real world, where we all are just numbers against a benchmark: Performance aggregation

I fully agree with you, too much nowadays is rated by numbers and grades, things are generalised and only the grades and numbers matters.
I hate it.

This is the reason why I left WoW and won't come back. But that was like two years ago.

A friend and I are trying out PWI for the first time, so far it's been pretty fun, we are probably not gonna play too much though since I doubt that we're gonna invest too much money in it.

If you think about what's called MMOFPS right now, this is till definitely an MMO.

As the Beginner Developer Learning Center has been mentioned, make sure to take a look on the basic "Bits & Bytes" lessons, they are pretty sweet to get a hold on basic programming and problem solving.

I've actually signed up for a distance summer course for basic games programming in C#, I hope it gets me on the right track.

I should have expressed my distaste for EarthRise with more detail, but I didn't want to hijack the thread with a rant....I just had an absolute adverse reaction to that game after watching their videos and cringe when its compared to FE as apocolyptic.

From what I have seen the two bigest problems people seem to have with FE is the graphics and the aim to hit....the first I simply dont understand and is truly overated as a pivitol pass or fail for a game.

The second i believe stems from ones adverstion to FP shooters...to that I would simply say dont worry...its not like CS or even PlanetSide for that matter.  The first time I played an FP type MMO was Neocron...and it added alot to the feel of the game...more control and a sense of freedom during combat rather than standing locked   toe to toe.  If done right, namley limiting evatic movement while shooting through acuracy penaly via crosshair scaling...you get some awsome game play.  An example of not how to do it would be Face of Mankind...everyone running around cirling each other, ignoring cover or any other tactical element of a gun fight (real or unreal) was a key failure IMHO.

The difference is just that in a classical MMORPG (with sticky-targeting), your character is what matters - if your character is a god, you are a god, while in FE or others where you have to aim, no matter how big your guns are, you can still suck - it less about your character and more about yourself.

I would say that it all comes down to what you prefer - building your own skills to become good OR building you character's skills to become good.

FE is unlike anything else in that it is a true post apocolyptic setting........unlike that EarthRise trash...

Now weather they can pull off this very awsome setting with solid game mechanics we will see.....I just wish they would embrase the true flavor of the post apocolyptic setting with scavaging in pvp (consumables at least)....last time I watched Mad Max he took ammo off a corpse...among other stuff.

It will be nothing like AO.....

Calling Earthrise trash just because it isn't a post-apoc setting? I'd call Earthrise post-post-apoc - it isn't in an allround post-apocalyptic setting, but rather in what comes next.

Honestly, I believe that in the real world, society would build up fast enough so the whole post-apoc feeling would pass away when the major cities got rebuilt...

If you're looking for Mad Max, FE is definitely what you want.

It looks promising :)

We're heading in the right direction! With hosting getting sorted out, they will have less on their hands when the s**t hits the fan and it's getting closer to release.

I have great expectations for this game, on the drawing board - it's pretty much exactly what I want in an MMO, I just hope that they manage to execute it in an even greater way than previous MMOs.
