I used to play it but was not currently subscribed when they made the announcement. Can I log in and check it out before it goes down or do they expect me to pay for the last few weeks on a game that is closing? |

I know, I was going to say: TIGGS IS A WOMAN. Not a man. HAhah. Fake. It is not being released in July.
OH, Tiggs posted to this thread. Hahah. See?!
Just because it is in Wikipedia does not make it so. I could go post some inane crap there right now and people would start parroting it as fact. |

Sad to say, this is effectively a single player game now
General Discussion « The Chronicles of Spellborn 6/01/09 7:07:28 PM
People berated me for saying this would be EXACTLY what would happen. Now it is true. I knew it would happen because I played through two phases of beta (pre-NA release/beta) and it went the exact same route. I posted it about it also on some other sites, explaining the population would thin out to nothingness and people went ape sh** on me. Well, it turned out to be true. I'm not gloating, I'm just saying that it was not exactly hard to see that this was going to happen. Acclaim does not help but I think that a big part of the problem also sits within the game itself. The game has no staying power despite a few neat aspects. It's far from crap but it does not do enough to separate itself (beyond the combat system) and KEEP players interested. It's fun for a few weeks, maybe a bit more or less. That's about it. And that's exactly what an MMO can NOT do if it expects to survive. I also agree that the quests were completely unoriginal and boring.

I've been playing since the game was in beta,I don't recall any friendly fire. However, some jack asses on my side have sapped me inside of a structure in the heat of battle. |

This really sucks. I was going to resub for the double xp weekend but their account management is down. I've been trying for 2 hours. Neat...doesn't work from any PC and it is on both of my accounts. Something is up with their website. Can't reactivate or even view any info relating to the account beyond logging into it.
Edit; Nevermind, their server finally worked. I don't know anyone in the game at all now. Haha. I just have some 15-25th level characters. DAMN! Spoke too soon...at the last step I got an error when it took the c card. Haha. Ah well. I'll try again later. |

Seems shaky to me. After all of this anxious waiting, they are basically canning everything? It really makes me very skeptical. Naturally, I am disappointed too. Ah well, the window for this making upgrade being a viable move is evaporating and I am doubting it will ever happen. I'd be stunned if it came out before the end of 2010(despite what they are saying), and expect there will be other games to choose from that will make this entire upgrade obsolete. |

I'm bumping this old thread for a point of reference for people looking at the game. I don't know what changed, but I went back and got the game to run very well on the same hardware on the same system. I am suspecting either a new driver or a new patch made it work on my system. The same tactic I tried the first time that failed worked this time for making the game run. Either way, if you're looking through old posts, don't let this scare you off. With a little adjustment you can probably get it to work. |

Coming back to try yet another time...
General Discussion « Star Wars Galaxies 5/20/09 5:33:33 PM
Thanks for the fast reply. Yeah, I knew how to switch but was afraid I would lose all of my ranks (or whatever they are called) in piloting and have to start at 0 and work to master pilot in Imperial piloting. I'll look into that. I did not know about the xp boost, either. Pretty cool. Thanks again. |

Yeah, I've never heard of characters being wiped. I'd look into that. I was a pre-CU SWG player and have to say that there are still some fun things to be done in the NGE. It has matured a bit, there are some aspects that are still similar to the original version. I got into the space combat pretty heavily. I have always been Imperial on land and made the mistake of going neutral in space when JTL came out. I had a whole character concept going on, however, it ended up being a massive failure. Basically, everyone attacks me. Hahah. I was too high in my progression to change. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a way to switch factions in piloting without losing all experience. If there is a way now, I'd love to know! I used to have a lot of fun building ships. I sport a Jedi Starfighter and just need to finish the last level of XP. Ah well, good memories. Last time I went back I found out they did yet another revamp and all of my gear was crap...again. |

They are much better off not releasing promo stuff like this. The screenshots so far look decent, this makes the game look very mediocre and dated. I know, I know, it is not coming out until 2010. Most people see a crappy video and don't consider, "Hey, it's not coming out until 2010 so they will most likely refine and improve much of it." If they were smart, they'd not release any more of this hog shot until they have something appealing to show off.
wtf @ the 0:50 mark where the mob is standing on the player's head. Looks like they were just really lazy throwing this together. |

The op's post is probably one of the funniest things I have ever read on this site. I would love to hear more details, that is a great post...and I am not being sarcastic. Tell us more! |

They changed that about 5 months ago. All servers have item shops now. A lot of it is cosmetic and not a major game changer, but opinions differ on that. I won't hijack this thread. You can check out the eq2 forum to read more about it. |

General: New Column: Why Not Historical MMOs?
News Discussion « General Discussion 5/12/09 7:11:42 AM
I put together an article and posted it (on another site) a couple of months ago about a theoretical Western MMO. What we came up with was quite interesting. There's a lot more going on than cowboys versus indians, the discussion generated some very neaaaaaaaat-o ideas. As for "historical" MMOs in general...man, some of you people in this thread need to take a deep breath and relax. it's just using a time period as a setting, it is not supposed to be a historical recreation. It will always be historical fiction when you revisit the past with modern people in a video game.

I have been wanting to try this game for a long time. I couldn't get over 5 fps on my system. Vista or Xp(neither helped), 8800 GTS 640 Mb, 4 gigs ram, Q6600 quadcore @3.2ghz. The fact your computer is not fairly old is working against you in this game. If you ever find a work around to make it work, please let me know. I tried everything but gave up. I will be able to play it once the graphics upgrade comes, but I say that it will be at least the end of this year (or longer) at this pace. |

Those looking for circa 2006 graphics will be disappointed. I played through the Euro betas, US beta, and a bit at release to see if it changed. It's the same. It's a mediocre game that will find a small niche with a few dedicated people. The environmental graphics aren't horrible, the avatars are laughable. I thought that the dozens of identical little kids scattered around picking their noses were the product of amazing art direction. I don't mind if a game's graphics aren't amazing. For a 2009 release you have to admit it's a bit under par with modern capabilities. However, the reasons I dislike the game have nothing to do with the graphics. It's just another thing to dislike in a greater tapestry of crap. Check back in 2 months and we'll see how many people are still pumped on it. New shiny things, even if they are very average, have a way of keeping people captivated for a few weeks. |

Originally posted by funnylumpy MMOs are like j'ing off. There's no point in doing it 10 hours a day, for years on end, because you're never going to recapture the feeling of the first few times and it will just start to get boring after a while. I've never found a game, even the best ones ever, that could hold my attention for 3 years. So while you mention the new content is boring to you, that is within the context of playing for 3 years. I'd love to hear you name one game you've played for longer that is still a huge thrill... I'm enjoying EVE. More power to someone if they can play it for years on end, I'm not that type of gamer. I can stick to something 6 months to 1 1/2 years, but beyond that, it is likely I will want a change of scenery or something different. |

Why this game is off my list...and why it sux.
General Discussion « World War II Online 4/26/09 1:40:05 AM
If you had seized on a lot of other shortcomings about this game I would have agreed. I'm hardly a blind fan and have voiced my opinions about some things relating to this game. I have played it off and on since 2001 and come back from time to time. I have had the exact opposite experience with their customer service. You need to file a ticket via Playnet, at least that's what I have used with success. I not only get a response, they typically write me a letter -- a non-form personally written letter -- and fix my problem. I have played many games and have never had such great service with the issues I've faced. That's just my experience and I am certainly not doubting yours or meaning to diminish that. I don't know how much time you put into your experience but I have had some very intense and amazing moments in this game. Even as someone who tends to like great graphics, this game is still fun to me. It certainly has its moments where there's not a ton to do or the battle can lick sack...overall, though, there's nothing out there that does what this game does, and I mean that in a good way, not a negative one. I've turned on quite a few people to this game and they dig it. I have played a ton of MMOs as well as multiplayer games. I think that WW2 has plenty of issues and the forums are generally retarded. A lot of the people there have a bloated sense of self importance but I have a great solution -- I don't use it. I just enjoy the game and play it when I feel like it.
