When exactly does it get stuck? Is there an error message associated with it? We need more info... |

Originally posted by Argo951 WoW is no where close to being the most popular of all time...Most popular MMO? Yes. Most popular game? No, not even close in today's market. Games like Halo Reach, Call of Duty, Pokemon, they've all stomped on WoW's hours in the dirt. The Sims alone has sold 20+ million copies, compared to WoW's 12 million. EDIT: Actually, it may not even be the most popular MMO for that matter. F2P games like Maple Story have boasted 90+ million accounts. It's the most popular P2P MMO though. |

I read the word "WoW" too many times and ignored anything you wrote. |

Would you consider playing a first person MMORPG [poll]
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/02/11 4:13:57 PM
HRM, an MMORPG, or massively multiplayer online ROLE-PLAYING game in first-person? Thus, forcing you to get into your role more? PREPOSTEROUS! I agree with everyone here, an RPG where you play as the person is stupid and dumb!

All classes deal damage, they devs wanted that from the start. You can't go in thinking like WoW or EQ with healers, tanks and DPS-only classes. I'm fire currently and I both tank and do DPS at the same time. Though my damage isn't as high as a controller (buffer/damagers/debuffer/pets) I still output quite a bit. There are also healing power sets like nature which can also put out poisons and other damaging abilities. Heck, as a tank, some of my abilities of taunting require me to do some AoE attack persay. It seems that gear and power choice will determine your "spec" but most powers are versatile. |

What effect if any do think DCUO will have on CO?
General Discussion « Champions Online 12/05/10 1:45:57 AM
You guys are leaving out a HUGE leverage DCUO has over Champions. The PS3. DCUO may not be all that hot on this particular website, but imagine all the little kids who'll run into BestBuy or Blockbuster yelling at their parents for the cool new Batman game they see? Who cares if it has a sub, they still buy the game thinking its like Spiderman 3 or the Hulk. |

For a hardcore fan of the comic since 2005, and someone who's been watching zombies since they were born, I loved it. I attended their panel at NYCC and knew it wouldn't disappoint. Hint: the season ends coinciding with the comic's issue 6. I asked Bob Kirkman. |

I generally go outside or talk to friends over Skype when my games aren't working rather than typing out lengthy essays. Why am I posting this than? I can't sleep, I'm done with games for the day, people are offline and it's dark outside.

I'm a nerd first and a geek second. They're different things, and I really dislike when people confuse the two. Geeks tend to like a certain genre or subset of a genre a lot, or a series relating to such. For example, you're a geek if you're deeply into World of Warcraft, which is just an MMO, a subset of role playing ames. Nerds on the other hands are generally individuals who excel at academics. I know the two are often heavily linked, but they are different things. I have a friend going to U of Waterloo for nanotechnology, and he straight out doesn't take part in video games, geeky movies, or anything, often being cynical towards geek culture. He's a nerd who likes mainstream media, that's it. I went to Comic Con and it was a prime example why geeks are still not main stream. The New Yorkers would walk by giving strange glances to even someone wearing a Star Wars t-shirt. People would line up for hours to get Katee Sackhoff's autograph. Really? She was only in a TV show (and such one that heavily used the deus ex machina; debate that with me in another thread). I know movies like Star Wars, Spiderman and The Dark Knight look mainstream. Sometimes they truly are. But those are just the movies; easily accessible, cheap and fun. How many people do you think actually read into the comics or other basis of lore behind the movies? Hell, half the time the screenwriters make things up for the sake of Hollywood. Still don't believe me geeks aren't mainstream? Try this. Walk up to anyone who you consider a "normal" person, and simply ask them what their favorite sci-fi series, anime series, comic hero, anything, is. I guarentee you most of the time you'll recieve either a dumbfounded look or an answer along the lines of "Batman I think, like that guy who was in Dark Knight?" I hardly ever talk about my life on the Net outside my smaller group of geeks (most of whom are nerds and we end up talking about automobiles or architecture anyways, nothing geeky at all), most of the time having a feeling of shame when I talk about it with "non-geeky normal" people. Don't tell me that's a lie, I bet most of you get this too. We may have more movies being made for us, and more shows being shown to us, but the core reason is this: Hollywood has realized we have loads of cash. We are not mainstream, not yet anyways. We just have a more noticable market share now, which companies like Disney and Warner Bros are exploited in the fullest sense of the word (Transformers 2, anyone?). And once again: nerd =/= geek. |

Very confused in regards to beta pre-orders
General Discussion « DC Universe 10/27/10 8:34:42 PM
I pre-ordered the game. Sent them my Paypal receipt from Steam. I didn't get a confirmation page or email saying I sent it, so I'm a bit worried. That was 2 weeks ago. I now see preorders are getting beta invites, and now I'm even more worried. I scoured spam folders and inboxes on my email and can't see anything. Any help? |

I played the game first hand. It was fun, it looks fun, and I pre-ordered. Will I buy the DLCs/cosmetic items? Oh hell no. That should be free, but it's not affecting my leveling or fun, I don't care if other players buy them. When it becomes the point of selling actual items, gear and weapons, that's when I get mad. Yes DLCs are becoming the wave of the future (look at the ridiculous MW2 DLC at $15) and it's a horrible trend, but just boycott DLC. Simple as that (unless if it's a full expansion pack, i.e. Cataclysm). |

Some examples. I think it would be cool if they dynamically opposed players if they take part in certain non-instanced missions that are deemed "PvP-allowed." Let me explain: a group of 4 villains recieve a quest to go rob a bank for the Joker. They begin by assaulting the armored car and then proceed to hold the bank hostage while stealing the money. A group of 4 similar level superheros get a distress call from the bank, Superman, whatever, and can accept (like APB). They rush to the scene, the two groups battle, one wins, XP, gold, you know the drill. Only certain missions could be considered PvP missions, and you won't always get an opposing group of heroes/villains, just to make things more random and exciting.

They should make a full movie out of the trailer
General Discussion « DC Universe 10/21/10 8:37:53 PM
The only reason the trailer was cool was because it showcased a large battle. If this were a movie, you would have way too many branching storylines for each different villain or hero, it would seem muddled and silly (like most serious superhero movies). The trailer is just thus, and it's good in it's own right. tldr; i overthink things too much. |

I played a short demo at New York ComicCon and can honestly say DCU had the most fun combat I've ever played in any MMO. It was a sword/melee character fighting Harley Quinn's goons, and I just had a blast. It felt like a mix between God of War's combat and Champions Online power ups. I played with the PS3 controller and keyboard/mouse, and it felt very fluid on both. Never watched this game before and that demo alone made me preorder it. |

Empyrean Guild Project - Ideal guild for new / returning players without friends in the game

This doesn't need two topics. For those daring to click the link, it's just your ordinary recruitment message for a guild they claim largely comprising of mature players. |

Each Cinematic less Epic than its predecessor...
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 10/19/10 10:37:34 PM
In terms of pure narrative and hype surrounding such, I found WotLK to be my favorite. There's no real combat, death, or anything. It's just Arthas, with a foreboding speech given to him by his deceased father about ruling an empire, then you see him in an ironic nature, raise an army of undead. The BC and vanilla cinematics just showcased some of the new races and bosses, and Cataclysm's was a Roland Emmerich trailer.
