Is the Armoured horse worth the extra $25 for the D2D version, or can you make it and the ATV in game?

well fe is almost a sandbox but not a full sandbox

.if its 25$ for it u should still get teh 30 days free with it also. if u dont like crafting dont think u will like fe right now mainly cause 99% of the items ingame are player made. mainly rightnow u do quests. later u choose a faction then their faction warfare. games only been out almost 3 months so if i was u  i would wait till they add more stuff that might interest u. but defeinly keep the game inmind to try later. look around on this forum there a reply witth some good points u might want to read that i made on fe

From all the things I read, it looks like you're right. All it is atm is faction warfare and crafting. I can do much more fun faction warfare in STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl and crafting in EVE (again though, I don't enjoy it.)

I may be buying/subscribing (FE is on sale on Steam for $25) but have a concern. Namely, what is there exactly to do? I'm not a huge crafter, and never will be. I understand you can change factions and stuff, but I don't see this game having the high-player count faction vs. faction battles the likes in WoW or EVE Online. What is there exactly for me to do in the world as I progress?

Quest helper?

I've never used a quest helper of any kind in any game.

How lame!

That's like cheating..what's the point of playing then? Better off reading a book or watching a movie then.

Not everyone has the luxury of a wonderful sense of direction. I'm sure there are things you aren't as good at.

Using proper paragraph structure, for instance.

EDIT: Why can't my character talk? All the TOR characters can talk. All the ME characters can. Yet my elf in DA:O remains mute the entire game? Lame. Combat is cool, however KOTOR and ME appeal to me much more (I'd take sci-fi over fantasy anyday).

Not speaking is the result of having the freedom to create what you want.  ME had a female/male version of 1 charaacter, whereas DA:O would need the same hundreds/thousands of hours of voice work for female/male versions of 6 characters (and that's after you assume the ability to choose a custom voice for your character is removed.)

By not spending 6 times as much money (and instead spending nothing) on main character voiceacting, they had more time/money to devote to the other aspects of the game which are better than ME.

I digress, I find a game more immersive if everyone has a voice. Even if they only hired one actor for each gender (so about 8? voice actors in total) would be fine. Just sticking text in there severly breaks the flow of conversation and just makes it looks like you're reading a book. If i wanted to read, I'd go re-read Lord of the Rings for the millionth time (a lot of fantasy novels are horrible).

I chose the city elf, due to BioWare's unique view on elves in the game. I was playing and wondering a multitude of what if scenarios if I was in this world and not tied to game mechanics or storyline.

I'd go about the storyline as originally made by BioWare. I would then return to the elves still living under the oppressive humans, and using my newfound fame and glory from the Darkspawn conquest, uniting all the elves (including Dalish) under one Elvish banner. I'd then use propaganda to persuade my followers into warring against all nations who oppress us (humans basically) and reclaim our rightful place as the highest race on the planet.

Basically, if this were a true role-playing game, I'd be an Elvish Hitler.

He used the depression as a way to unite the Germans under the Nazi party. THen used lies and propaganda, got WW2 started which resulted in the death of 6 million Jews (humans in my storylines case).

Oh how I wish I had a longer attention span, I'd write a book or something.

Nice ideas.

One issue:

Dance MMOs are hard because there are only two possible classes of characters. The kid from the right and the kid from the wrong side of the tracks. See for example.....i was going to name some examples but actually ANY dance movie.

Some other ideas:

Two areas of the supernatural, somewhat religiously based, I'd love to see - ghosts and dieties/demons.

Many religions share some common traits as to demi-gods/demons whether they are called angels, loas, 'gods/goddesses' (in many religions gods have like powers to angels in judeo-christian-islamic tradition. Some ideas for game setup - Ability to influence the world to some extent, shapeshifting, possession.

Ghosts - Either playing as the still living or as the ghosts.

I agree with the dance MMO thing. Why make an MMO when people can just play Dance Dance Revolution? Although the article, he did state he didn't have a wild imagination. For the deity idea, that sounds interesting. Of course you wouldn't name any of the characters off current day deities, but that idea of mythical/godly war is neat. Minotaur vs. Hercules/Pegasus anyone?

I've typically seen a lot of people don't like historical games as opposed to wild new settings. Why? They're much more foreign and generally exciting.

What's the point in making a Civil War? The Union won, you can't change that. Sure, the game can, but it still wouldn't feel right. A Roman empire MMO? Sounds cool, considering the amount of land the Romans conquered, but in the end, they get conquered themselves 500 AD, so there really is no point. So why are WW2 FPS and RTS games so popular? The history is familiar (it was only 60 odd years ago) and the gameplay is fast-paced and fun. Sci-fi and fantasy games offer people a doorway into a whole other world and life, where the story is uncertain and changing. You can't change history, only alter it severely which I find as a history buff to be disrespectful in it's own right.

Remember that one game, Fall of Liberty for the 360? Churchill is killed in his taxi accident, and Hitler attacks New York City. How is that honoring all those brave men and women (and somtimes children on the homefront) who helped the war effort? It's making a complete mockery over real historical events.

To recap:

Historical MMOs? No. Why?

- No uncertainty, you can get a better understanding of the world through Wikipedia for crying out loud

Altered history? Again, no. Why?

- Takes away from the original historical events

- Disrespects the people who actually lived during such events

Then why do people make historical movies, such as the [fictional] Gladiator, or Kingdom of Heaven? In these, you watch a story about whether historical or fictional characters living through a very real time period. [usually *cough* Life of Brian, still funny though] They pay tribute to the original historical events. I don't want to be a Gaul player PvPing in Rome, killing hordes of Roman soldiers to level up and gain loot to better my character. If I were playing a Gaul in a game, I'd want to play a Gaul to better grasp the -actual- sacking of Rome.

Many MMOs are also loot-driven, PvP-driven, or a combination of the two. A true army for instance in say, the American Revolution, would be trained and equipped with the same gear (depending on their role in the army). There was no "lvl3 Captain with +1 Strength rifle." There was just the Captain, his superious, and his inferiors, all trained to act in accordance with their rank. You also wouldn't be able to coordinate proper battles; anyone who disagrees with me, try organizing a few hundred players all in different parts of the world, different pings, ages andcomputer hardware, to form them into a proper line battle. Good luck.

To quote Morpheus: "No, what happened, happened, and couldn't of have happened any other way."

No thanks Mythic, you had your chance. I played from launch till May, left for the summer (travel), came back and didn't resub (had trial when I came back). What a shoddy mess the game was in. The population on my server was poor, all the best guilds had moved on, the fortresses were gone and Altdorf was still a huge laggy waiting fest. Not to mention my class (Marauder) still majorly sucked.

No Mythic, this "lets stick every race in Chaos vs. Empire" thing is totally stupid. I'm happy with WoW and I see no end in sight for that game (solid PvP, amazing PvE, tons of content, and Cataclysm + Icecrown Citadel in 3.3). Learn from Blizzard - add content, fix bugs, fix classes, be honest.

I seriously think you're the only fanboi left on these boards.

When the "droid" did my system scan, my sound card was listed as "Logitech USB Headset" which I only use for ventrilo and such. I even unplugged it and got the same thing. My real card is a SB X-fi Xtreme Audio. Anyone else getting this? It may turn into a big deal when BioWare assumes I jsut have an integrated sound card with a headset instead of speakers and possible beta denial.

Might I bring to light that the real meaning of the word grind is killing the same mobs or enemies over and over again to get XP? Sieging (although, real sieges last weeks/days), scenarios, and other forms of PvP are not grinding, unless of course you get your Order friend to be killed by your Chosen over and over for renown.

The price may be worth it, I don't know, but it still seems to me that the requirements are pretty outrageous considering the game looks like it could be run under DirectX 8.

$40.

Minimum
# Windows Vista/XP
# 2.5GHz Pentium IV or equivalent
# 1GB RAM (2GB Ram if using Vista)
# 5GB Free Disk Space
# 128MB DirectX 9.0-compliant 3D card (NVIDIA GeForce 5800 or ATI 9800)

Recommended

# Windows Vista/XP
# Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 GHz or better
# 256MB DirectX 9.0-compliant 3D card (NVIDIA GeForce 7950GX2 or better)
# 3GB RAM or more
# 5GB Free Disk Space

I'm sorry, but what? Why would I need a system that could run Oblivion maxed out to play this N64-graphical quality game on minimum? Is there any graphical coding at all, not to mention the extremely choppy framerate in the Introduction video on your website. All this, and you're expecting $40? I can understand a few brace pioneers stepping forth to blow some money on a new idea, but it just seems ludacrous.

.. .Everyone is playing the HERO what purpose would World PVP really serve storyline wise?  Hero's do have clash ups but its rarely a massive world pvp frag event that an MMO would turn into.  YOU can how ever Duel any other hero you want anywhere in the world you want.  Thats as close to world PvP you're going to get.

Its a PVE game with arena / scenario's for PVP entertainment (that gives xp and acclaim poinst for buying gear).  Where the heck have you been ...and in what world did you live in for the past year where its all been about PVE PVE PVE...and "scenario" style arena pvp.

World PvP in a PVE game = fail

btw please stop advocation the destruction of games with the constant call for games to have world PVP.  Not every game works well that way and infact it turns the community against each other more than it binds a community together.

Dude, why do you need a story when you play an mmorpg? Those nerd grind on stories. They dont care about it. They just want to max and show how strong they are. The best way to show how strong you are is when you do world pvp. But doing BG's, arena duel is not suppose to be the point to make a pvp system in an mmorpg. We suppose to leave that job for the fps games or other stuff like that.

Darkfall online is a popular game right now. Eve online too. Both of them dont have story at all. the only story you get is when you check their official site, they tell you about the story on the lore page. In game, its not about story at all since the players shape the world.

I still enderstand that champion online is more focus on pve, but i mean come on seriously. PVE are for noobs. PVP are made for the owners like me.

I was looking forward to that game, max my character and do pvp all day long in the world, use my traveling skill and once i find someone, kill him, but it seem like it wont be possible to do. So champion online is not for me at all.

I'm sorry, I was thinking of giving you a reasonable reply, I really was. But after reading this...I...just...agh.

I think my IQ dropped just from reading this.

I have noticed mobs are much tougher, but if you play it smart, you'll be fine. I've only ever been nearly killed once, and that was from me teleporting right into the middle of 6 mobs + a villain.

Patching is a bit slow,  but understandable because of heavy traffic.
