If I like PvE more than PvP should I give Aion a try?
General Discussion « Aion 3/12/10 10:21:31 AM
Iv gone to an Aion fan site and got a lot of info about the game. Most of the players there seem quite upset about it and didn't really provide me with much information. I hope I can get some information here.
I am a heavy PvE player, I love to quest, I love storylines, chatting with other players, I love being the party leader and going off to do dungeons and raids. That's my kinda fun right there.
Now I know Aion has open world PK, Which I can totally live with as long as I can still get things done in between. That means As long as I don't have to be killed every 15-20min I will not mind it.
There is an area called the Abyss, I have herd that it is optional to go in there. Now I have also herd this is where the majority of PvP happens. As well as end game PvE dungeons and raids.
Now I don't mind PvP when it is organized. I just mind complete gank fests when I am busy trying to quest (Example Age of conan PvP servers last year where you couldn't quest for 3 min before you got attacked).
I am also a very casual player I only have about 12 hours a week to play the game. So Being busy trying to survive from PKers for 6 out of my 12 hours I have a week will kind of be upsetting to me as well. Hopefully Its not as bad as AoC was in a PvP server.
My 5 questions are now.
#1 How often do you get PK'd per hour when you're out questing? #2 Is there any way of knowing someone is coming to an Area so that you can move away or does some one in your area generally want to go after them too for rewards?
#3 Is the abyss optional if I have no interest in End game content?, Now this may sound odd but I generally don't care much for end game content. I probably will just reach max level and take a 3-4 month brake Like I do in most mmorpg games. I like leveling classes what can I say.
#4 Is there a solid Storyline in this game?
#5 What server is mostly dominated by the Elyos? |

Interested player however the rumors of bad cash shop turned me off since Cash shop was out
General Discussion « Rohan: Blood Feud 3/10/10 12:43:11 PM
Hmmm well overall I did play the game about 2 months and decided it was not for me. Mostly was the cash shop, the way things worked in this game was way more greedy than other F2P games I have played before. Sure the game looks nice, and all but so does Granado Espada and the CS there is a bit less mandatory and a bit less of what I personally view as a scam. |

General: You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling
News Discussion « General Discussion 3/07/10 10:48:17 AM
There is a major difference between what an mmorpg does and what a single player RPG does.
MMORPG games are easy as hell, but they make their grind take so long in some cases months and years to reach level caps, and at that point your ether sick of the game or deprived of any real challenge. End game in mmorpg games usually involves high # of players working together to do something which other than getting everyone on the same page, and eventually getting everyone well geared enough is usually not a challenge just more time consuming.
RPG games are a challenge, they have puzzles, they have bosses that can actually kill you, confusing rooms, and many other things that add to the challenge.
Only really 2 mmos / online games that I know of that actually provide this kind of adventure feel and challenge without so much of the grind.
Monster hunter and D&D online.

June Version Update ~ lvl 99 cap begins by 8 w/ each Abyssea!

I felt complete even though I lacked the gear, I didn't find it as important as having my jobs at max level, Take that away from me at a time in my life where I simply cannot afford the time to put into leveling once again and well, basically saying thanks for playing 6 years now here's a slap in the face. thats how I personally feel about it. FFXI was the ONLY mmorpg on the market that had yet not increased the level cap and was seemingly unique in the aspect that instead of adding more grind they added more content, now its nothing more than just another mmo in the bunch to me.
You do have a very strong point though and the matter of fact is no one forced anyone to do anything in the game, you did it because you wanted to.
The way I see it there are roughly 5 kinda players that this will bring about
1. Players A were looking forward to this and are happy about it. 2. Players B Want to see what happens and are unsure 3. Player C is unhappy and is going to complain but continue to play anyways. 4. Player D is going to complain and rage quit and come back at a later date. 5. Player E Is going to quit, delete all characters and leave the game for good.
Personally after 6 years of FFXI I happen to now be player E.
The 2 choices I honestly see here are.
#1 Accept it like it or learn to adapt to it. #2 Quit.
I pick #2. |

The Airship (General) « Final Fantasy XI 3/01/10 2:03:09 AM
Glad a lot of people like it. There must be more people who wanted this than not for it to be implemented.
l After 6 years of playing constantly supporting this game, and being responsible for bringing in 16 players to it who are still playing, I deleted my characters tonight. 75 DRG, BST, WAR, WHM, SMN, SAM, DRK and 4 mules.
The fact and feeling I was able to come back to FFXI and feel like I could enjoy the game because I felt satisfied and complete with leveling is no longer going to be there. The only reason I returned year after year was the fact I could come back and always feel complete. It was fun and the best mmorpg I have ever played by far and made some friendships that got me past a lot of tough times in life and were also part of the good times. Fathers and grand parents death, my surgery, depression, college graduation, a lot of these friends I met became real life friends as well. I really have no words to describe the anger I feel towards SE for this update at the moment. Its the last I deal with this company.

General: Fiddle of Gold - Also Available in Shop

F2p mmorpg games = cash shop, Fine acceptable you need to make money some how, your choice if you want to go cash shop for your revenue. Do they charge a subscription fee? NO.
P2P games = 15/mo hell sometimes a bit more, I pay $17 dollars a month for FFXI because I have 5 characters, That being said, I can obtain everything in the game without any microtransactions. The way It should be for a fair and balanced game. Adding a cash shop to a P2P game is just pushing it. Kinda like the insurance company in CA raising insurance premiums by 25% all of a sudden and the entire state broke in an outrage, they then decided to stall the premium hike. Lesson here is, if you don't like what the P2P companies are doing, show them by not playing their games, and by speaking out against them. Myself?
I was a avid Pirates of the burning sea player. SoE added Cash shop to many of their games, well I no longer want to do business with that company. I believe its not ethical what they did. Do I miss pirates? Hell yeah, Did I have a lot of friends in pirates that I left behind over this? You bet. Do I talk to them on Vent almost daily and keep checking up on whats happening in game, yeah. Does the game have an item mall too? No but thats besides the point. Do I regret it? Not one bit, its called integrity. I would not feel right supporting a company that in my eyes is extorting and abusing its players even if its not directly affecting me.
The difference is between the guy who said "Yeah Im all for green economy, and supporting our environment" Then he goes out and buys a hamburger at Mcdonalds, in his Hummer, and trowing the cardboard box in the trash can. Sure hey may donate 5-10 dollars a year to the Sierra club, but the majority of his actions don't support what he speaks.
Then you got the guy who said "I care about the environment" actually recycles daily, is a Member of Greenpeace and Sierra club, participates in protests, cuts back on his meat intake, and rides a bike to and from work. This is the man I admire. This is the difference between players. Some will complain bit#ch and cry on the forums, then go off and buy what they sell. To them I say cut the crap.
Some players Complain on the forums and bi#ch and cry, but then they go and not buy anything of what the game is offering in their item malls, they don't give in, to them I say good for you.
Then you have the players who just quit playing the game say they are going to and actually do it, I believe these players are the minority. They are the ones that will actually make a difference in the long run.
Then you got players like myself who regardless of the game even if it does not affect me If I see a company do something that I find ethically wrong I stop supporting them all together. Example, Microsoft did not address the problems with Xbox 360 RROD until over 2 years after the console fail rate was over 50%. Sure they made up for it later, and I do cut them some slack for that, but did I buy another 360, no. Will I buy another Xbox product again? Probably not. If some one gave me an Xbox360 would I buy games for them, Sure why not, Like I said I cut them some slack.
Different people deal with these issues differently. Some just complain, and some actually do something about it. |

Would you play a 100% PVE MMO, No PVP at all ?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/17/10 11:39:07 PM
Yes I would especially if it was decent story based PvE content with a lot of group activities. If this game was a F2P it would be just awesome. The biggest thing F2Ps do to make money is add benefits to CS that usually over powers some players to make others easy pickings in PK or PvP without PvP some players being super powerful would not matter because it would all be a competition over who does more DMG but it wouldnt really affect anyones experience like getting ganked or owned because you dont have real life money.
FFXI is kinda like this but its a P2P game. Since there is little to zero PvP in FFXI there are people who do a lot of end game activities with gear that is vastly inferior to others but no one minds, reason behind it is the end game is doable with both amazing good gear, and basic decent gear.

When did your mmo "jump the shark"?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/17/10 11:36:18 PM
Sword of the new world.
It used to be 8 dollars a month subscription fee + ONLY cosmetic cash shop. Entirely based on costumes, storage, and pets. 2 months after it released it went F2P with total end game / high level cash shop dependency. Took them almost 2 years to get the prices logical, used to charge 40-50 dollars for basic benefits, those same benefits you can now buy for 10 dollars. At least at the moment the prices are fair although its still basically entirely cash shop based. |

I can always tell when I'm burnt out on mmog's...
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/16/10 9:29:14 PM
When Im so sick of them I actually consider going back to the worse mmo I ever played just to see how things changed "Sword of the new world" and usually become enraged within 15min of playing that pathetic excuse for an online screen saver. |

Pay by time is awesome and I wish more mmos had it. The moment you log in your timer starts until you log out. As long as the price was not something crazy like $15 dollars for 15 hours I would be ok with the pay as you go. Hell id prob like it more than the standard 15/mo sub. Something along the lines of $15 dollars for 40- 50 hours. $20 dollars for 70-80 hours and like $25 for unlimited play for a month sounds reasonable to me. Personally I think this would be beneficial for almost everyone, and if the time got rolled over every month and stacked up it would be great for casual players and non hard core. Actually the only people I can see really complaining over a pay style like this is those hard core log in every day from 8am-12am kind of players. |

wow game is much better and more fun than I remember.
Maybe its because Im bored of traditional mmos maybe its just the casual style of this game but something about it I really like. Im prob going to play 2-3 months after this free month is over if I continue to enjoy it as much as I did today. |

Yeah Im really interested to see how the game has changed since March 2008. I didn't like it much then very focused on ship and ocean stuff very few quests or things to do with your actual character. I don't mind the majority of the game being at sea but I wanted more character development. I wanted to feel like a captain not a ship.
Hopefully things changed a bit this time around. Im currently updating the game waiting for the downloads to finish. If I like it this time around ill stick. I am actually looking for a casual mmorpg to play on weekends right now and if i remember correctly this game is very casual friendly. |

Can't find a casual mmorpg with low level grind (Not a complaining or Beeping thread).
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/04/10 10:49:56 PM
Im going to give pirates of the burning sea a try, they are doing a free 30 day of play event if you ever had an account before. My cousin had an account so ill log on his for this month and see how it is. I did virtually everything I wanted to get done already in Guildwars, by no means do I have the most expensive armor or any of the huge major titles, but I have good armor, I have the games cleared and 4 characters at 20 thats really enough to satisfy me in guild wars. |

Yeah I have considered going console as well. Right now I am looking at pirates of the burning sea, and Monster hunter 3 which comes out in april.
Pirates looks like a relaxed pvp based game.
Anyone play warhammer and know if it is a grind or not? If its just fast leveling but deep pvp id be ok with that. I just don't want to spend a long time leveling is all. |

Can't find a casual mmorpg with low level grind (Not a complaining or Beeping thread).
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/03/10 9:13:42 PM
Hey guys. For a while now I have been looking for a casual mmorpg to play while im in college. My main mmorpg is and has been FFXI since 2004. I love the game lots of stuff to do and a lot of people to do it with. Great mature adult community, lots of depth and storyline once you reach high levels as well.
That being said if there is one word I can use to describe FFXI is TIME. It is by far the most time consuming mmo I have ever played and I have played my share (List bellow). In some cases I spend 14-16 hours just getting 1 or 2 levels on a craft at the mid level stages, or I ll spend about 8 hours getting 1 level. I mean there is a lot to do in the game but I just don't have the time for it when I am in college.
FFXI is usually my game for 3 periods of the year.
#1 Winter break. #2 Sometimes Summer break #3 Thanksgiving month.
I basically play FFXI about 4 months a year. The rest of the time im busy with college.
I need an mmo if possible with the style of guild wars but in an open world.
I will take a PvP or PvE mmo at this point normally I hate PvP but Im trying to open up my options so if you guys know of an mmorpg that is PvP and is very casual friendly as in you can compete and get a lot done in short periods of time id be interested. I only have 1 rule. NO Cartoony graphics. I can't describe how much I despise the WoW and Mabinogi & Atlantica style graphics. That is really my one and only pet peeve. I won't even play a game if the graphics are like that. Anyhow if anyone knows of a game like that that is pvp or pve focused and is very good for short play sessions very fast leveling and able to compete id like to know.
Its hard to try to balance College, extracurricular activities, and an mmo all at once. By trying to do this with FFXI I end up being a max level player with virtually no end game completed and unable to do it as well. Basically the only days I have to play are Friday Nights for about 6 hours Saturday for about 8 hours, Sunday for like 6 hours and Monday for maybe 4 hours.
So 24 hours a week is the time I can play an mmorpg. Trust me when I tell you that time available for FFXI in most cases won't even get me 2 levels. so I can't just stay in it. Anyone who has played FFXI knows that to progress in that game you basically need to clear your calender for weeks at a time or have a lot of high level contacts both of which I don't have.
So please if anyone knows a very casual game ala guild wars level of casual but an actual mmo let me know.
Pay 2 play if possible Id like to compete without braking the bank
I don't mind PvP or PvE just as long as its not cartoony graphics. Warhammer online is about as Cartoony as I can stand. The games I have already played that I know don't fit what I want are.
FFXI WoW Lord of the rings online Age of conan City of Heroes Aion Everquest Everquest 2 D&D Online - Would be almost perfect but I don't like the overall game set up. Vanguard
Again any style im willing to try, RTS, open world, Sandbox, PvP, PvE, anything I am willing to give a try just not cartoony, not Cash shop game, and not the ones I have mentioned above. Hope you guys can help me out. Thanks

I didn't enjoy the game all that much in the beta. Yes I thought the presentation was absolutely beautiful, stunning even. The community was ok, the overall artistic side of the game including music was phenomenal its really to bad that the game play was so dated and sub par. Sure it had fancy nice looking animations but at the end of the day it was just another typical mmo to add to the bunch. Not even an original Control scheme or interface style like FFXI has At least I can credit that game with those 2 points of originality in the midst of all the grind. and missions. |

5 years for a game that never got a REAL update and was milked for every last bit of content on a CD I would say that's an impressive run. Lets be honest there was not much to the game a GREAT combat system yes, awesome smooth controls yes, but game play wise? Grind the same map because its only place to find people over and over and over again and then grind high lvl maps in S rank to get good drops. I mean really? No real mmo features to keep players who wanted a bit more depth around.
I saw PSO as an online action game more than an mmorpg. In that light 5 year life span is damn good.
I would say PSO had a fantastic life span and a great run for what it was. |

mmorpg that can be played with a controller on the pc
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/27/10 11:29:11 PM
Is that currently the only game available? I really don't like super hero things to much but if it is the only game out there with this feature then Id prob try it. |
