It seems to me like there is this NC Soft engine that just keeps getting tweaked here and there whenever a new game comes out. 

I did like the sound though on the character creation.  The cool explosion sound rang awesomely when I clicked on my new character.  I hope the other in game sounds are just as good.

But I do hope I didn't just buy a repackaged version of Lineage II with updated graphics engine. 

 

 

Well I hate to type this once again...If you do not like the Asian (Korean) still of MMO and graphics this game is not for you.  Even the English writing is in an Asian font.

And yes some of the graphics are similar to Lineage 2 but in more detail.  (I still play L2).

You should think more along the lines of Guild Wars.  I found the graphics closer to GW. 

But the style is quite different and I think you are in for a treat if you have never seen a day and night cycle like this before.  Where Linaege 2 had a very bright sun and shadows, and some really stunning effects going from day to night in certain areas, (those who have played it know what I mean), this game sort of has the same thing but it uses coloring differently from the sun and the moon for a more artistic effect.  (i.e. Sky going from green to purple to blue one night, and blue to purple to orange the next night.) 

The idea is brilliant and I hope they pull it off good.  I have only seen up to ascension and the larger cities to see how it works so I really can't give a 100% opinion.  And I am sure some areas will be more pleasing to some than to others.

Stick with it.  I do not think you are going to be disappointed.  And when you get to level 10 try the arena.  It gives you a good idea on what the pvp is like.

Oh and I almost forgot.  It is like very other MMO in most of its gameplay.  Aion is an MMO.  That usually involves grinding.  If you are looking for something different try City Of Heroes or wait for the new Star Wars:  The Old Republic.

 

 

I am sorry but lvl 10 shows you absolutely nothing about your class or the game, maybe around lvl 35 you will start to get the feeling for the class.

Why don't you pvp at lvl 1 rather then 10.. its about the same.

Why would you come into a full on pvp game and want to be " The explorer"..  The game is built around pvp not a huge vast land to explore.. Maybe MisterSR has your highschool photo for his avatar.

In regards to the violence in games, some developers are just looking for trouble. Some E3 trailers were just dispicable. I'm not in any way in favor of banning games because there's violence in them, but some companies (Valve) need to get a clue before they release trailers.

Maybe you need to get a clue before venturing onto the internet.

Well to be fair to ALL posters,MOST AION fanbois tell others they are not allowed any opinions unless they play a certain length of time.Well now we have people telling others they should not play at all because they should have been able to form an opinion without playing?that sounds hypocritical if i ever heard it..geesh,be fair to both sides.

For myself,i most certainly can tell a lot from a game without even playing it,just from videos and description of the game and its design purpose,actually that alone is a LOT to go on,but for many it is not.

What makes MOST discussions bad,is that every positive one gets the high five and anything the AIon fanbois[or ANY game] takes as negative is NEVER accepted.It is so bad on the fanbois part that they are pretty much saying their game is "PERFECT" not a problem there at all,these are biased posts and would carry no creditability at all.

You have to be willing to notice the good and the bad ,as EVERY game has it.You use both the good and the bad to decide if the game is at least /possibly playable for you.Sometimes players are caught in between,they like a little of this but hate some of that,so yes then they need to actually play it.If someone hates the character models,that does not mean they might not like the rest of the game,because is it not true we have heard the MAJORITY state graphics mean little "it is all about the game play" right?

So for once as a fanbois,say you are right that part is bad,but there are MANY other parts of the game that are great,that would be a realistic and fair response,one that people could accept as not being biased.Actually could we count on more than 4 fingers the amount of times soemone accepts another players complaints about a game?Even if you are of the opinion that does not agree with the poster ,you can say in this case,you may not like the character models ,for myself and others we do.

My favourite game is FFXI and yet i could write several paragraphs on the games failures,but you know what?it offers a few things i love ,so it became the game of my choice.I can accept criticism and the good ,both are there in the game and i know it and accept it.

 

That really depends upon what they say is bad.

I find that most people can't separate "bad" from "working as intended/not intended" to "It's just not my taste".

Aion looking/sounding like an asian game is not a bad thing but a matter of taste.

That's like saying the color blue is bad. Well no, you might just hate blue but it pretty much is what it is.

I keep seeing people criticize Aion for being too WoW like. Well that is a matter of taste as well as they clearly stated they were making a tradtional mmo. so if one doesn't like (or is tired of) traditional mmo's then fine but for those who like/don't care then that's good.

Bad would be wanting to make a pvp game but the controls aren't responsive or there is too much lag. Bad is making a Character progression system that will penalize/gimp a player if he/she hasn't read extensively on what to do or not to do.

If one is going to label something as bad then it has to be usable. I love Lineage 2. but most hate it because it's open pvp and it has a huge grind.

It's not bad because it's open pvp. That is a point of personal taste. Is the grind bad? That's a tough one. Subjective in my opinion but for the most part I would say for the average player they would say it was bad.

Bad texturing is bad. Bugs are bad. Game play can be bad depending on what the game was trying to do. So if someone critcizes someone it might be because what they say is bad is really just personal opinion  or taste or a lack of knowlege on the subject.

So the op says it wasn't what he expected but what was shown as far as art design has pretty much been posted many times. So that I find a bit surprising.

However, I might see the point if he felt the game play was going to be something different if he hadn't read that they were going to make a tradtioinal mmo.

If they said they were going to be releasing a ground breaking title then sure, I could see where people would be pissed.

If I make a cheese cake, tell everyone I'm making a cheese cake and they try my cake and hate it because they hate cheese cake then that is on them. If they try my cheese cake and find it tastes like saw dust then I can see them being pissed.

So then one has to look at Aion and see if it is a good example of a game in the WoW/LOTRO/"fill in the blank game" tradition or if it fails to live up to those games or even any game in the genre.

I had no problems playing with a amd quad core.

The most important survival tip IMO would be cutting up your credit card, so you don't actually buy the game..

But hey iam sure there is other great tips also.

I tried Tcos the other day.. i got to fame 5 and did not see a single person the whole time.. i don't know if i picked a dead server but not seeing a single person, or any chat happening in global at all killed the game for me.

How is asking about hit boxs breaking the NDA..  There could be information on the webpage or DF forums about it which wouldnt break the NDA.  Or give someone the chance ot say "sorry we wont know until release". so we don't get a million reposts of the question.

Play if you want to play, i don't know why you need someone to tell you to come back or give you reasons to return..

If you need someone to convince you to come back i would say not to.

Don't expect to much help when you don't give people any real information on what you are looking for.. Fantasy is a HUGE number of MMO's out today.

Try to give alot of details what you are looking for, people arn't going to sit here and guess what you want.

2 new classes does not fix the boring endgame.  I will not return until something can grab my intrest more then rerolling a new toon.

Howling blast  was changed to a 5 sec CD instead of a 6.

I dunno about heavily hyped.. I, like many others seen this game running the same fate as Fury. 

But we can't say it will be 100% fail yet.. only time will tell even if the odds are stacked poorly for it.

The best thing to do is to experiment and find out what appeals to you most. Unholy is a lot of fun as it has some unique abilities and a pet (should you spec for it). Frost I found a bit boring, and Blood I am currently experimenting with, but has some nice raid buffs.

Try creating a spec of your own, putting points into things that appeal to your play style. The DK is still new and experiencing growing pains, and they will take time to settle.

All 3 trees can dps,tank,and survive.

its just some trees DPS better then others.

since the new patch.. the top dps spec might have changed...

but for pvp I and many others use.. 27/0/44.. tanking you can pretty much tank with any spec aslong as you have the 3 tanking talents from each tree 5/5/5 and then put your points anywhere you want.

but check  elitest jerks webpage it has all you need to know... just google elitest jerks DK builds.
