To answer your question, yes WoW is worth trying. Just bear in mind that this game really does not start until you are the highest level (which is not hard at all to obtain). I dont necessary agree with the flames/rants about the game above me. You will find evrrything mentioned up there in every games, WoW is no exception. Being the most popular game in the world, WoW has to be doing something right.. and it is not just because they advertise a lot. Give it a shot ;)
