Join The Expedition [XP]! - Casual PvX American Guild Looking for Fellow Adventurers
Guild Recruitment « Guild Wars 2 11/18/12 8:38:18 AM
The Expedition [XP] has never been stronger! Here are some stats:
We have a core of 20-25 people logging in every day out of a roster of 35, even though we are casual, with members often letting us know about travel/vacation/afk plans.
Our top 5 group activities include: 1. Dungeons (Story and Explorables) 1. World vs World (as frequent as Dungeons) 3. Jumping Puzzles and Exploration Achievements 4. Special Event Activities 5. Tier 6 material zone runs
Our top 5 member goals include: 1. Looking Sexy (Armor/Dye Fashion thread is off the charts) 2. Achievement Points 3. Helping people's progressions (storyline, achievements, etc.) 4. Pwning in Wuvwuv and sPVP 5. Legendaries
Our top 5 most frequent conversations: 1. "How do I look?" - Armor conversations and dye trading 2. How many ways we can mispronounce orichalcum ("or-cha-chal-chum!") 3. Making fun of Charles sobby mesmer or Twitchii's random outbursts 4. Awkward jokes, flirts, and innuendos 5. Upcoming game changes, official forum dev post/rumors, etc.
A lot of our members have core RL friends/spouses/SO's in the guild, with plenty of room for "friends of guilds" that are even more casual than we are. With no officer roles/responsibilities, the members are the ones that make this community so great.

Guild Recruitment « Guild Wars 2 8/04/12 11:20:47 AM
![]() Gates of Madness Server Centered around the "Explorer" mentality of discovering all of what Guild Wars 2 has to offer, embracing challenge and taking risks, The Expedition [XP] is home to skilled adventurers who are capable of sustaining oneself, but welcomes fellow adventurers at anytime during his or her personal journeys. We are a small, casual group of gamers that balance our real life responsibilities and gaming on a daily basis. We are all about exploring our games in and out, in both PvE and PvP, trying new things, delving into different aspects of the game, all for the value of "the experience" over "the reward." With work, school, families, friends, RL responsibilities, and peak daily gaming hours from EST to PST, we are fully capable of sustaining ourselves on our solo adventures; however, we support our teammates in both skill and morale when we do adventure together. ============================================ Further Insight Into [XP] "What? Small guild? Casual guild? How can that be any fun? I'm going to be alone all the time. I'm going to log on and see maybe 2 people on the guild roster... I won't get to do explorable dungeons or WvWvW or pre-made PVP! Eh, their site has pretty colors, but nah..." [XP] is not for everybody, and our members are a unique bunch of people who are dedicated to the game and the friends they play with. Even though we are casual, we have members on everyday; however, we do prioritize real life over our gaming life (most of the time, haha!). In GW1, we always were able to attempt any content we felt like, and the journey together was worth the time played. As a small guild, we play each night by ear, and pick content that is suitable for whoever is online. "We have 2 people? Let's go do some jumping puzzles or trigger some meta events! Do we have 5? I hear that dungeon is great. Oh no! We have 7... .. ... heck, lets do the dungeon twice! YEAH! He wants to do this event... I've done it like 50 times, but hey, it's his first time and he needs help. Oh! She found a secret path in the other zone... hey, let's go and see what happens!" With our real-life responsibilities and active social lives, we cannot commit to weekly-scheduled raids and pvp groups, nor do we require other members to report online daily; however, that doesn't mean we don't make an effort to game with each other. With our ample means of communication, its often that we may ping people the day before "Hey, I'm going to have Friday free... dungeon anybody?" and just play everything by ear. We are in for the journey and the experience... we help each other enjoy all aspects of the game. Our group is tight enough that we know each person by their nickname, not just their avatar, and we know each others strengths, skills, and personal likings so we can pick what content we want to do. We know each other as friends... not as online guildmates that we use for group content. We know each other's personalities, each other's stories, and each other's goals. Critical thinking, upbeat attitudes, flexibility, and patience are key traits of our strongest teammates, which helps with maintaining a strong cooperative gaming environment. "Oh, he's on.... he's not a fan of PvP... but she wants to pvp now. Hey, how about lets do some PvE events in WvW. Or if he is going to level in the swamp, he can tell us when the meta is about to trigger, and we will jump over. Oh, so-and-so got to the top of a jumping puzzle but can't beat the boss solo... let's go!" We share the fun... we take screenshots together, we post videos for each other, we strategize and theorycraft. We often feel that GW2 is really catering to core groups like us. With structured group content at 5-man teams, we don't need 100's of other guildies that we "sorta know who they are, but are just going to use because we havent done the dungeon". Also, we love to take on challenges and prove that things can be done unconventionally. Rather than "I don't think we can do it", we always say "heck, lets just try it and see what happens!" If the experience is the reward, the end result is insignificant. [XP] is open for recruitment, but our unique style isn't for everybody, but at the same time, we might be the perfect guild for those who may not realize it. Those who join us believe in making our system work, and that's why it does... because our guild is our home online. What do you look for in a guild? What do you look for in the game? How many people do you truly find yourself playing with on a daily basis, not just sitting quietly on vent while the other clique of people are talking? Are you ready for an adventure? Do you embrace challenge instead of running away from it? What is your story? ============================================ Read more about us, including recruitment information, at: http://www.the-expedition.org |

The combo-style of the weapons skills made the controller feel much more natural than button mashing the keyboard. If I ever get the game, it would probably be for the PS3. Not too often that I can relax and enjoy my mmo's reclined on a couch in the living room. But really, its the personal preference. At least if you play on the PS3, you know everybody is on the same playing level if you PVP. Otherwise, PC will be determined by who has better rigs, and I'm not sure if macro-ing will become an issue with some of the combos. Also, the PC community will be more traditional MMO-like, while the PS3 community will probably be more open to traditional console players. It's up to you! |

The Expedition [XP] takes a different perspective on “guilds” than most other others in Guild Wars that claim “active”, “hardcore”, “experienced” requirements. [XP] is a PvX guild designed for individuals who like to play Guild Wars to simply relax and enjoy the game, playing at their own pace, seeking out their personal goals, and exploring what they self-define as “fun”.
Guild Wars is designed around accessibility and versatility, being able to pick up the game and play it in the style you want, whether solo or in a group. Players should NOT be forced to play a certain way at a certain time with a certain build with certain members during a certain guild event or forever be plagued with guilt if they refuse to do so.
People have various play styles, capabilities, and spurts of casual and hardcore gaming. Therefore, [XP] does NOT require faction farming, title farming, playing with conventional builds, or participation in guild groups, but members are more than welcome to do so if they wish. Members should not feel burdened to do things for others and must never burden others to do things for themselves.
What the guild DOES require is that members do what is fun for them while bringing a supportive attitude to the community. Even in the worst situations, members are able to “shrug it off” and continue gaming on. Though the guild does not demand guild grouping, members are expected to at least communicate in guild chat and on the forums.
Ask yourself this: "What do I need from a guild?" If you need members to play with you to get the stuff you need done and give you a reason to have fun and play, there are plenty of other guilds that do that, and so we are probably not for you. If you want a guild that likes talking about gaming (more specifically Guild Wars), is active on forums (such as MMORPG.com and others), and want a long-term social community both in-game and out, and onwards in Guild Wars 2, please send us an application. Our members don't need the guild to have fun in Guild Wars; being in the guild just enhances the excitement and enjoyment of playing.
The Expedition [XP] is community of social Guild Wars fans that are not only experienced but are also self-sustainable, able to support themselves in Guild Wars in any situation. [XP] is currently accepting applications for long-term gamer friends within their community. In addition, [XP] will be in preparation for continuity into Guild Wars 2 as a guild, sharing our amazing first experiences with the upcoming title.

thinking of buying the game, but i have questions
Lion's Arch (General) « Guild Wars 2/09/09 3:13:04 AM
(As stated by previous posts...) Europeans can buy all 3 stories and the 1 expansion in The Complete Collection like a previous poster said. USA and other countries can buy the 3 stories together in The Trilogy for about $50. Or you can buy any of the storylines separately: Prophecies, Factions, or Nightfall. It typically irks people when others call them expansions, because they arent. |

Any MMO's have solo or 2 man instances
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/09/09 3:08:02 AM
Guild Wars is fun with any number of people, and the great part is that you can go in from 1 to 8 players (and fill up the other spots with AI henchmen/heroes). It is a campaign style game, so its similar to like the story campaigns of RTS games where you can only play missions that you have progressed in the story; however, you can always play with your friends in content that you have already beaten to have them catch up. I have done almost everything solo in the game, though plenty of people have done all of the storylines solo. And it plays sort of like Zelda or Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles... you can stay with the main storyline, or branch off and do the side stories. |

I will have to say your gut reaction to Guild Wars is a REALLY good choice for your situation. I can write an essay on it, but pretty much, its VERY versatile in character customization/progression, playstyle, and content. You make your own goals and reach them however and whenever you want. You aren't really forced to play a certain way, almost everything is customizable to your playstyle, and its mainly a co-op game where you can go through the main content with any number of people. I have been mmo-hopping for years now, but I still get on guild wars and accomplish what I want to accomplish playing solo. It has been my favorite online rpg by far because there are a ton of things i can progress in and feel like im accomplishing things even if I have very little time to play. I'd say for two people, it would be a great mmo to explore together. You can have some fun making your own little "duo-force" to defeat content. And its pretty light on the wallet, both with no subscription fee and also the fact that now that you can get all 3 separate stories for about $50 for one account (Guild Wars Trilogy). Then if you want to top it off, get the GWEN expansion. (If you are in Europe, you can get the Guild Wars Complete Collection with all 3 games and the expac) If you do get GW, I would suggest starting with Nightfall. The progression and story is probably the smoothest and matches what you are looking for as far as story and character. Also remember that much of the story really gets exciting after your characters reach max level 20, and even though you have reached max level, you still continue to gain experience and title points for more skills, stronger buffs, etc. |

I am looking for a game; any suggestions would be great. I LOVE Bosses/Encounters, but I am a bit picky. When I say boss, i dont mean "rawr! im a monster with a name! kill me! rawr!", I mean semi-scripted encounters, even ones with simple solutions, as long as it requires some skill and footwork to get him down. I like semi-chaotically running around to get a task done. I like the boss encounters in Zelda games, though they are a bit basic, they are simple and provide a lot of dynamic gameplay. I also LOVE Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles multiplayer for the gamecube: short trash mob to the boss with (again) a simple objective that requires a lot of chaotic gameplay to get the boss down. As far as MMO's, I have played many. I do like encounters like COH's Giant Monsters (like Lusca) and Guild Wars' end fights (Shiro and Abaddon, and some of the GWEN dungeons); I do like the fact that all players get a reward in the end for both games, but I am more interested in the fight than any loot (I raided in WoW solely for the fight and passed on much of the loot). I have played WoW's lvl 60 raid content and some of the 70 before quitting, but I think that game is centered too much on the greedy playstyle and don't care much for the community there. Also, the thought of aggro is a bit too drawn out for me; Boss: "I am going to continue hitting this tank even though he is just being healed and I am being damaged by the other 39 people around me." I have played heavily through COH, WOW, GW, and currently playing TR. I have tried EQ2, Lineage II, LOTRO, MapleStory, Dungeon Runners, Exteel, and a lot of other f2p mmos, so if I missed something in any of those, please tell me, but I haven't really been impressed by any of them. I don't like point'n'click movement (since I like running while activating skills). Also, I prefer something without the "free" aftertaste of F2P models (if you know what I mean). I am looking at The Chronicles of Spellborn because I like their art style and what they have talked about so far in their dev logs, but I don't know how they are really going to handle encounters (and still waiting for them to announce a US publisher). So ya, if anybody has any suggestions, I am looking for dynamic encounters requiring fancy footwork and skill from a group of people (not necessarily raid; i just like playing with people) with a hint of 'random', server-generated fate. Thanks!
