For me, I dual screen, and have done since 2006ish. I used to have one 17" LCD and a 19" CRT (which I only paid 99p for, but it was a Dell, and was *stunning*).

Now I have two 21" LCD's running off my graphics card (used to have them on dual DVI/VGA outputs, but recently upgraded the displays to HDMI versions).

Keyboard wise, its either the Logitech 19 or a Logitech G510 (as a backup), although i started on the G15 (blue screen version). I just like how the keyboard works.

Logitech G13 and like you Matt, I find it hard to play *any* other games on the main PC without it.

Mouse wise, I have the Logitech G600 (the Logitech Naga) for my main rig, and the Razer Naga for my laptop. Speakers I keep hidden at the back, and I have a USB headset that I plug into the front (atm a Logitech G35 for the desktop) and a Sonos Ozone 5.1 for the laptop.

Yes, I like my hardware, and I like gaming comfortably.

I have seen a few people posting up here that this project has former Paragon Studio developers working on it.

I might be sticking my neck out a bit here, but unfortunately I have to actually say that this is incorrect.

There are no former Paragon Studio developers working on this project. Although I am unaware as to their exact structure right now, I do know (at least from what they have said in other articles scattered around the net), that they are instead 136 volunteers working on this project.

Now, I do have my own fears about this project, because this team *is* unproven in the industry, and as many of them are doing this *on top* of their "real world" work, i feel that when push comes to shove, they might just find out how hard it can be when it comes to crunch time.

I do wish them all the best, and I would like to be proven wrong and have them actually able to ship this product... the same goes for the other "spiritual successors" of City of Heroes out there (Valiance Online and Heroes & Villains), but I am wary about all the projects out there.

I never had to log into my NCsoft account page to buy the game. In fact, you *can* play Guild Wars 2 without having an NCsoft account.

 

Does this mean that if you never have to use the support page (which I haven't), then it will never be linked up to an NCsoft master account?

CoH was pulling about two times what  Guild Wars 1 was pulling (look at NCSoft reports.) Why is Guild Wars 1 still running then?

Does this mean that NCsoft/Arenanet *wont* shut down Guild Wars? Who knows, but I am not expecting to stay around forever. In fact, Arenanet quite possibly have more *power* with NCsoft than Paragon Studios ever did.

I personally give Guild Wars 1 another year or 2 before it gets shuttered, if it does get shuttered, or Arenanet depart from the NCsoft stable (and to be fair, it does look like they could fairly easily do that, seeing as Arenanet now manage the Guild Wars 2 accounts themselves (or at least that is the impression that the NCsoft Master account page gives... Guild Wars 2 doesn't appear on it).

This complies with to the notion that NCsoft tried to work with Paragon to make things work and keep the game alive, but the Q2 2012 Earnings Report seems to jive with our anonymous friend's claims. CoH seemed to, at least during that window, be bringing in around 3-4 million dollars a month in revenue.

The only part I have a problem with is the above section.

You link to the financial report, and say that it was bringing in $3-$4million per month, when the report that you linked to says that the figure is around $3million per *quarter* (granted, with currency conversions whatever that figure can fluctuate). I calculated it myself (around the time of the closure) that the game was bringing in roughly (at least via the financial reports, in the same fashion that has been used by the players over *multiple* years... ) roughly $2.5million - $3million per quarter, and although it had been semi stable over the past year since freedom, there was still a general downward trend.

The days of it bringing in $3-$4million per month were several years ago, when it was in its early stages of life.

 

Just to point out to people here... CCP have allowed the sale of GTC's via their forums at least since june 2007 (going by the earliest post in the 'Timecode Bazaar' on their official forums).

So to say the least, this isnt a "new" thing as it were... infact if anything since then the price for 60 days of game time has gone UP in ISK value whilst the $ value has remained fairly static (30 days now going for about 270million IN game, 60days GTC about 510million on the forums) , whereas originally 90days GTC was about 400million...

BUT i have also seen some PLEX's accidentally sell for 150mill (or less) on the market as well is in excess of 350mill on ther market. 

 

So in reality... how much is 30days game time worth in terms of ISK?

 

Its whatever the player SELLING the gametime values it to be at that point in time (or a very stupid mistake pricing it up on the market).

 

Can CCP ever *truely* stop the selling of isk via ISk selling websites? No, but they can try to limit it though; and this method of "selling gametime for ISK" is one method that at least the community prefers and has accepted...

 

Still, nothing better than blowing up a players ship knowing that he bought it with ISK obtained from selling a GTC, especially if you were the one who bought the GTC ;)

Now if AV offered a trial (that could only be used in conjuction with this offer) it would make more sense. Granted, it would also follow a very similar structure to other MMO's "refer-a-friend" offers as well

1) Send invite/trial to a friend

2) If they BUY the game using the same account (ie upgrade the trial to a full account) then you get credited with the full $10-$11

 

This would work (and be more likely to increase the gaming population), as people are more likely to take up a trial offer for a game, then dump the cash upfront to buy the game, and then realise that they dont like it.

Hell even if you are all in the same group, and like the same style of game, there can be somethings that TOTALLY throw you off and make you realise that you dont like (could be something as petty as a crappy UI, whilst the rest of the game is wonderful)

The main advantage of this though, is that it *does* allow you to do the "hey try this game for x days, for no charge at all... if you dont like, at least you can say you tried it". THAT i think would definately make it possible for people to get their friends involved in the same game as them.

TBH, I dont play Darkfall... i would *love* to give it a try (although apprehensive about it, seeing as it seemed to have been quite a cluster^&*k at the start), but the lack of trial is seriously offputting for me. I dont want to spend cash on a game and then realise that it sucks balls (and have no comeback for a refund on it...).

But the number of trials/Demos of games that i have played though means that at least i can say:

I have tried the game and:

I) I loved it

II) Will get it when its cheaper... i feel that it doesnt warrent the price that they are charging

III) Nope, nice try, but just not for me

IV) WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT PIECE OF $*1T.. arrrgh, my computer will never be clean again, and i cant unsee what i have SEEN!

 

Yeah, although i think the game would fall into category IV for me, i *AM* intrigued by it and a trial would at least mean i can comment on how good/bad/brilliant/crap the game is.

 

tl;dr version

If they did a trial *AS WELL* as this paid referral (hell "refer a friend" by any name, this just rewards you with cash and not gametime), then i can see it possibly doing well....

However, this actually requires you to convince your friends/people to try to game... they still need pay the game to see what it *actually* is like... and just rewards the person whose link you follow. YOU (the person who was referred) still has to pony up the cash just to see what its like... THAT part needs to be eliminated... so AV get a trial system out as well, and i think you will see this scheme be more succesful...

Ave are about to open a third server, official forum registered accounts are still going up by 500 per week, clan counts from the actual game show an steady upward trend since the expansion and now xfire also shows solid growth in both users and playtime. quite the contrast to eg: WAR which has now closed 63 servers since release, or AOC which is also on life support.

Unfortuantely, the RATIO of people having these card issues is stupidly high, and proves that there *is* a distinct issue with the billing system, either directly with Adventurines order system OR via their collection side.

Until the game is available for general release, and the majority of players *dont* have to jump through hoops to get their hands on a copy of the game, i personally dont view the game as "released".

Even games that have a "head start" period (which could indeed be limited in number/ preorders only) then at least they acknowledge that fact and say that the official release date is X / Y / ZZZZ.

This *typically* avoids the "backlash" issues that have arisen here on these forums (and indeed on other forums).

Unfortuantely Adventurine haven't even done this. Hell *if* they turned round and said "Sorry, we are only going to allow pre-orders in for the forceable future whilst we get the issues sorted out" that would have also lessened the backlash. It wouldnt have been pretty, but it would have been a lot less than what they are getting.

Instead they are doing a "rush to get the game" without even confirming to the people who WANT to buy it WHEN they can buy it... they say a time, and miss it... it then becomes a scramble for the order button when it goes up, meaning that their ordering system gets hammered harder than they expect. Everything that they said would be done by a certain time, has been late...

Seriously.... if i were them, I  wouldnt even put up or even HINT at when the game would be available for general release UNTIL I *knew* that the order form could take the punishment. Adventurin should infact over compensate when it comes to the server being hammered for orders... not let the orders out in dribs and drabs.... whilst it might ensure that their one game server doesnt collapse upon itself, it doesnt do much for the people who *want* to buy the game. To spend their *hard earned money* on the game.

If they keep it up for too long, people *will* give up buying it there and then... and then when they do eventually get round to buying it, their view *could* already be jaded.

Being honest, its been a clusterf*&k of reasonable proportions. The game might run nice and smooth for those who managed to get the game, BUT 1st impressions are important. And when a game makes itself this hard to get your hands on.... it had better be the best game ever, because if it doesnt match up to the expectations it rapidly becomes a contender for "fastest uninstall ever" (although apparently it already did that to itself....)

I havent played the game, I not all that interested in playing the game right now, but i am interested in the game and have followed it over the past few years (i was reading the forums before i signed up for them). I *want* to see a game like this succeed. I *want* there to be more choice, i *want* more companies to take a risk in their idea's about a game.

But seeing as this is basically the flagship for "independant MMO development" it *really* doesnt do a good job of "this is what you do"... its more becoming a case study of "this is what you SHOULDN'T do"

Champions Online/ Star Trek Online are being published through Atari (Atari now own Cryptic Studios as of a couple of months ago) so expect anything (to be honest, Atari DO have a recent knack of spannering up releases)

DC Universe is being published by Sony.

NCsoft West's next title due for release the American Market is Aion (Q4 2009), with Guild Wars 2 coming due in 2010/2011

Wow... everyone here is citing Half Life as a brilliant case of "Vapourware", when i would say the ideal candidate would be "Duke Nukem Forever".

How many times has *that* game won "Vapourware of the year" award? Numerous times. Infact on one site they even put it into their "Hall of fame" just *purely* for that reason. It had won that category so many times.

When it releases though it *wouldnt* be vapourware (technically) BUT it would still carry the title (as it were) as they have become synonymous with each other.

Anyway I am running out of popcorn. I want to know more about the game.... please tell me a GOOD and OFFICIAL source of where i can get it.

There was just a big write up of it in Massive Online Gamer Magazine.........Never really cared to take a look at the game before, but man...now I wanna play!

 

Funny thing though concerning that Darkfall report from MMOZine (issue 9), is that they end it off saying:

"With a European release already underway as you read this (and a US one to follow shortly after), we'll see if these Greeks are bearing a gift worth spending time with very soon now"

Oh it also says that the ETA for the game is January (100% incorrect though).

I just wish that there was more information in the article about the game that wasnt already mentioned elsewhere (ok granted, a couple of screenshots that i havent seen before, but then again i have only been following this game (screenshot wise) very intermittantly... on the other hand, i have been reading up on most of the articles that get published about the game.

What style of endgame are you looking for?

If you can answer THAT question, then it will help a lot more.

For some, its crafting, for others it getting all the classes up to 50.

Others are there looking for the "leet" loot.
