On a related note, and because I was initially confused, this means the death of the initial Firefly MMO, the one we heard about ages ago but never really saw anything about it.
There is another, newer Firefly MMO in development, not related to Multiverse, and it is still very much alive. The main site is down for now while they focus on development, but check out their Facebook page:

Not to worry, if you already own GA then your account will be flagged as the elite agent status. So you will have access to all the payed stuff without having to pay again. Quoting from the GA news article about this: 'All players that have previously purchased Global Agenda will be automatically upgraded to Elite Agent status.' |

TERA: The Exiled Realm of Arborea: Class and Race Dev Blog
News Discussion « General Discussion 6/22/10 9:15:04 PM
I tend to agree that some races shouldn't necessarily have all classes. I know little about the game's story, but from a design standpoint... While watching some of the videos, I saw a Popori as a Lancer and that just looked weird o.o A Popori as a Berserker is a stretch, but not impossible. But as a Lancer? Yeaah, I find that hard to believe. |

I think this game has potential. It'll certainly be interesting to see the multiplayer aspect. Plus it's been a while since I really got into a good city building game... It's about time and Cities XL is a good prospect :D |

But now that I look at the full image, yeah, that definitly aint how it's supposed to be. |

As in, since the Sovereign, there haven't been any new multi-role starship designs. Until the NX-91001. |

Star Trek Online: A Look at the Sovereign Class Starship
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/21/09 6:36:47 PM
Actually, the above is an image of the NX-91001:
startrekonline.com/ships/nx91001
It may look like a Sovereign class, it's possible it is even a Sovereign refit, but... The NX designation refers to prototype vessels. The first Defiant captained by Sisko was an NX. The first Enterprise in the series of the same name was an NX. Refits typically keep the NCC designation.
And no where does it mention in the above link that it is a Sovereign class. |

I was thinking the same as I watched the Dev Chat. Problem is without lose of equipment on death how do you make a viable crafting economy? Difficult decisions ahead! Pirates of the Burning Sea's death penalty was the main reason I left that game, I just don't want to be spending all sorts of time grinding money.
Most MMORPGs (emphasis on the RPG part) don't have item loss. They have durability, and sometimes not even that. And yet they still manage to have thriving economies. How? Everyone wants bigger and better stuff. I highly doubt that once you buy a weapon in JGE, you're never gonna need another again. Because there will always be something bigger and/or better to get. And even if people reach 'endgame' and cant get any better equipment, you've still got new players coming in, and old ones creating new characters... And eventually new content released.
Granted, EVE has item loss and it's economy is the best out there, hands down. But apart from being space sci-fis, EVE and JGE dont have much in common. Certainly not the gameplay. And... I have completely forgotten the point of this paragraph. Uhhh... I guess what i'm saying is you shouldn't size JGE up against EVE. For one, as mentioned in the dev chat, battles are fast. And that's to be expected, because this is dogfighting. Death in JGE is probably going to be much more common than EVE, meaning item loss on death would be much more painful.
So, to summarize: Not item loss doesn't necessarily mean bad economy. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Updates from Around the Web
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/25/08 9:47:07 AM
As mentioned, this game isn't even in alpha, and yet people are already saying it's gonna suck. How stupid is that? You don't even know what the game is going to be like, yet are making decisions to not play the game, based on a few words that have no context behind them.
They say the game is about being a hero, but what does that mean? Are we literally going to be heroes (ala CoH) or are we going to be performing heroic actions (which your character does in the majority of MMOs).
It appears to me that they are simply saying that you'll be doing things that impact the world... Being an entertainer in SWG is not impacting the world. Being a moisture farmer is not impacting the world. Saving a colony from raiders /is/ impacting the world.
But then i'm not a dev working on the game, and neither are any of you, so none of us have any idea regarding what the game is about.
As for those arguing about the game being story driven and therefore cutting out social interaction... Anyone who has played NWN multiplayer will know that you can have both a strong story and strong teamwork. And who developed NWN? Gasp! Bioware! So they have experience in this regard. Infact, they're probably one of the only developers around who do... So if anyone can do it, Bioware can.
Yes, stories tend to be linear. But then the majority of MMOs are linear to some degree. They just give the illusion of openness by providing alternative routes. But in the end they all lead to the same point, the endgame. |

Star Trek Online: STO - A Message from Jack Emmert

1. I agree. Any missions that dont involve starship stuffs (combat, space exploration, travel, so on) will need to be instanced. Otherwise you're gonna beam down to a supposedly unexplored planet, only to find other players there. Or transport onto a enemy station only to find everyone dead, meaning the mission you were given doesn't make sense. On the other hand, anything done in starships can be part of one complete world. Because it'll be big enough that the chance of running into other players is low... Atleast I hope it'll be big enough, because darnit it's space!
2. Again, I agree. Giving everyone a ship right from the beginning is like SOE changing SWG so you can be a Jedi without any trouble. And look how many people STILL flame SOE for doing that. To me, Star Trek is more about crew interaction that takes during the missions, not the missions themselves. Making everyone a captain is pretty much going to dumb the game down to the point where it's not Star Trek. Just look at Puzzle Pirates. For those who haven't played it, Puzzle Pirates has player-owned ships that typically need player crews to run. And being on the crew can be just as fun as being the captain. If Cryptic can follow this example, they'll have one hell of a game. |

Star Trek Online: STO - A Message from Jack Emmert
News Discussion « General Discussion 7/28/08 4:52:33 PM
Yeah, that's pretty much what i'm expecting too. I wouldn't be surprised if STO plays out like one of the current ST games out there (most likely the Starfleet Command series or Bridge Commander). But I don't see either of those working well as an MMO.
In my opinion, the best way to go is to have a player captain and player crews. Funny thing is, this is how Perpetual had it in the very beginning, before they decided to stuff us. |

PE To Focus on STO, G&H Cancelled, Result of New Investors
Perpetual Studios Version Discussion « Star Trek Online 10/10/07 7:00:42 AM
All you people who say you're not going to play STO... I find you quite funny.
Did PE stuff up with G&H? Yes. Are they going to stuff up STO? Quite possibly. But I am not going to judge a game I have not played. A game still far from release. It is possible they will stuff it up, but it is also quite possible they wont and STO could be the next best thing. If STO is good are all you people, who say you're not going to play it, going to stay away from it? Or will you play it?
You're not going to lose much from trying it. Even less if you manage to get into a beta. So all you people who say you're not going to play it because of PE's stuff ups are just depriving yourself of the opportunity to possibly play a good game...
Or are you saying you're not going to play it just because everyone else is saying it? |

Tabula Rasa: Next big hit, or next big flop? Something in between?
General Discussion « Tabula Rasa 9/29/07 8:46:55 PM
Everyone has different tastes. There are parts of TR that some people will like, while others wont like. While the opinions of the posters in this thread are valid, in the end they will have very little impact. Only time will tell whether this game will flop or not...
Personally, i'm so sick of the saturation of fantasy games in the MMO market that any game which isn't fantasy is already a good game. |

General: Blog Spotlight: Character Customization
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/24/07 7:38:17 PM
A good example of what I consider great customization is 'Perfect World'.
I haven't actually played it, but from what i've read... You have your standard set of armour which has stats to improve the combat capability of your character... And then you have a set of clothes that is entirely optional. If you choose to use this set, they go over your armour but don't unequip it. And these clothes appear to be /very/ customizeable. So you can look great (and probably unique) while still kicking ass!
Go check the game out! An international/english version is getting close to release. |
