Permadeath in Star Citizen! Yup, this game will be hardcore!
General Discussion « Star Citizen 2/16/13 2:05:56 AM
Originally posted by desdecardo Hmmm, EVE currently has over 450K subscribers, and it's population has been booming over the past couple months. Quite the failure? I think not, especially because it's been around for 10 years in an industry that chews up lesser games. And when you're talking death systems, EVE's is actually quite good. Even Chris Roberts said as much. For me, the only "harsh" mechanic to EVE's system is the loss of your ship, although if your ship is destroyed it makes sense that you would lose it. And getting podded is hardly a "harsh" penalty. |

Camelot Unchained won't be available for a couple years.
For F2P, I'd recommend Aion. For B2P, I'd recommend The Secret World. |

Gearing treadmill and game immersion

Play EVE. Easily one of the most immersive MMORPGs available today, given the chance.

I think the biggest misconception here is that Dust would exist without the PS3. It probably wouldn't.
Sony funded a fair amount of the project, so if it wasn't for that **1-year** PS exclusivity contract, you probably wouldn't have a game to hate on or spread misconceptions about.
So when the haters cry about how Dust a PS3-only game and CCP screwed the pooch on that choice, they're really just being ignorant. |

Dust has been improved by leaps and bounds since this thread was started. Also keep in mind that the game is in beta---it seems a lot of people in this thread are treating the game like it's already been released.
As for it being a PS3 exclusive, that is only true for the first year of it's life. After that, it can go anywhere, including the PC. Also keep in mind that Dust probably wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Sony's funding, hence the PS exclusivity contract. |

He'll back back sooner or later. No one quits EVE permanently.

Totally agree. The amount of things you can do, and learn, is what drew me to this game and keeps me engaged even years later. It doesn't hurt that it's also one of the most immersive MMOs out there. |

Limited Engagement battles - Dueling coming to EVE Online

Should be good. As long as ships can still get destroyed (which they can be) in this new system, it works for me.

If people can't handle the recent drone changes (which I love btw), not sure they'll be able to cope with more difficult missions.
That being said, I'm very excited that they'll be taking a look at PVE. It's a large part of the game for some, and that paer has spent enough time getting kicked to the back of the line by myopic pvpers. |

It's all about what *you* want to do. Check this out: http://swiftandbitter.com/eve/wtd/
Also, press F12, and do the following: 1. Click the Tutorials tab and do the tutorials. 2. Click Show Career Agents and do the missions for each one. 3. Go. |

CCP Unifex blog: changing the way EVE is developed
Jita (General) « EVE Online 1/16/13 3:32:34 PM
The first years of EVE were more about surviving and throwing in features to fill up a fairly sparse framework. I expect that the next 10 years will follow a vision that goes beyond just surviving and is more about enhancing the player experience in meaningful ways and iterating on the existing framework.

EVE's population has been booming over the past couple months and still steadily climbing. It's a great time to join.
There are many, many channels that you can join to chat depending on your ingame or out-of-game interests. I'd recommend the "rookie help" and "Help" channels to start with. And because it's a single shard, there is a *minimum* of 20-25k people on at any time of the day. |

I enjoyed every game that I played in 2012. They all had qualities that made them fun. If you're looking for a game to replace your RL, you will always be disappointed. Games can't do that. If you're playing a game that you don't like, or feel the need to complain about a game that you no longer play, then it's time to move on. Enjoy games for what they are, not for what they aren't. That way, you won't get so emotional when a game doesn't meet your unreachable expectations. |

Sci fi wasn't always my cup of tea either, but there is no more immersive, or sandboxy, MMORPG available right now. |

The answer to the thread title is of course EVE. It's not too complicated, there is simply a lot that you can do and might initially appear overwhelming. Hence, sandbox.
For a fantasy sandbox, consider Xsyon, Darkfall, or Age of Wushu. |

It's a great time to join, by the way. The population has been growing steadily over the past year and recently reached it's highest point yet. Click the link in my sig to join and look me up ingame for help.

I think this can be true of any game. From what I read on forums and blogs, there are a lot of players who tend to get hyped about game features. Then, when the players actually experience the game, there is a natural letdown because the features don't meet their personal expectations. Personally I'm still wowed whenever I turn on my computer and see moving pixels, but I'm old and started playing games when text adventures were the hottest games available. So I'm easily amused and amazed.
In the case of EVE, the fact that it provides so many different ways to play is remarkable in itself. Just look at this thread. It's entirely dedicated to hauling, which is only one of the careers in EVE. Imagine if we talked about exploring? (my favorite activity) It provides an entirely different gameplay experience from hauling, yet it happens in the same universe, at the same time. We could easily have a lengthy thread dedicated to all the intracies of that exploring in high sec, low sec, and null sec. And like hauling, I might not pew pew for days when exploring, so for the pacifists out there it's an excellent career choice.
While I think most games are flawed, simply because they are inherently limited in their ability to provide everything for everyone in the exact manner that they expect, I think EVE comes as close as any MMORPG out there to provide a breadth of choices to users who are looking to fill different niches. I've been playing EVE for years now, and every time I come back after taking a break I try to do something different than I did the last time. So far I haven't run out of things to do. That's pretty cool. |
