Originally posted by Tymora I Agree with Tymora, not similar to the SWG at launch at all. Much similar since the NGE debable, except that TR did the FPS thing correctly in my opinion. Everthing from character development and crafting was much more in depth in the original SWG. That is especially true for crafting when you think of all the complexity of findnig the best resources etc. I like TR but really miss the diversity and ability to change professions of the original swg. |

Why do people play RPG if they don't want to grind?

Good point about the time spent versus reward. I guess it all boils down to how someone perceives that ratio. With that being said the term grinding is probably an overused descriptor of MMORPG's as I don't think there is a game on this website that has escaped being labled a "grind" by someone. |

I see your point. I would have to say the only time I've felt like I was grinding in any game was during the holo craze of SWG when I went through 20+ professions in a matter of a couple of weeks. That sucked. Other than that, I guess grinding is as much a choice as it is anything else. |

Why do people play RPG if they don't want to grind?

Hi All, My thought is that TR has a nice balance between mission "grinding" and kill experience gain. You can actually gain nice amounts of xp by just running around killing stuff, or by doing instances. You can also gain nice xp from completing missions. With that being said why do players still complain about grinding? Either they complain about mission grinding or just kill grinding, or they prefer one or the other. What do they expect out of a MMORPG? Isn't character advancement the whole idea behind any RPG game? Isn't that how the original D&D table game worked? Those that hate any kind of grinding, how would you rather gain exp? Would you prefer gaining xp from dressing up your avatar as skimpily as possible and just standing around chatting all day? You don't have to pay for a game or the montly fee to do that, just go to any public chat room if that is your intention. I do agree that there could be more to crafting in TR as I am sure many people enjoy that sort of thing and running businesses etc, but seriously what do "grinding" complainers want? |

Originally posted by Takingtheday I don't think the amount of damage you do has much to do with your job as much as the skills you choose. Although some specializations like Grenadier will have access to some more damaging skills and more damaging weapons, basic weapons like shotguns, rifles etc can be used by everyone and can become quite powerful in later levels as you progress their skill ranks. I don't even use my ranger specific weapon (net gun) as I find most others like rifles, shot guns, and machine guns work great in most situations. I haven't played my specialist very much as I have been focusing on my ranger, but the self healing etc seems helpful. I haven't used him in a group yet, but I hear medic is not that good of a support class in this game yet. Grouping is pretty good, and to be honest, I havent noticed what the experience gain is like while in a group as I have been so focused on the missions. Overall, missions will give you your best experience but I often notice while working on an instance for example, I gain a ton of experience just killing the mobs on the way to the objective so I think if someone wanted to just kill things to gain xp, you could do that, but you will need to find mobs about 1 or 2 levels higher than you so you get good amounts. Most missions are quite fun however, and you get your fair share of killing within them so overall it seems there is a good balance between mission xp and xp gained from killing. Defending or attacking outposts is a good way to grind xp from killing as you get tons of kills each assault. |

Definately the PA announcements at the Forean base. I forget the name of the NPC at Fort Condor I believe, but he has some great statements in his missions text. The writers did an excellent job with most of the mission text. The random banter that occurs between NPC's, guards at bases etc. Sometimes I just stand around enjoying the different conversations. |

Hi all, For purposes of full disclosure, this is my first post in these forums. I have been trolling these forums for years, but TR actually inspired me to create an account. In reply to the OP, I think the exploration part of the game is great. My first MMORPG was SWG, and this is the first game that has given me that same feeling of adventure I first had when I began venturing out from the area surrounding Coronet. It is very much a free and open land scape that you can go in any direction in most places, but at times it is also challenging to find the pass through some mountains to get to a specfic area of the map or objective. The areas are also fairly large as the second poster had mentioned. I am not sure if it is by design or I am just not finding the quests, but I have found logos and other things of interest and use that were not linked to a specfiic quest. When adventuring around, I like to use the filters on my minimap so I cannot see the enemy up ahead, I find it much more enjoyable to turn a corner and run into a mob of Bane that begin unloading on me. I also find it quite injoyable to find a nice overlook to a valley where I can snipe Bane as they unload from their drop ships, with the minimap off, it is fun to eventually have some sneak up on me and chase me off my perch. I also enjoy that a lot of the quests do not have specific markers on the planet map or minmap, all there are some instructions which requires you to do some exploring just to find your mission target or objective. I hate being forced to group, but I also like the need to group, if that's even logical. As long as you don't skip ahead to more advanced zones to quickly, it seems you can explore most zones alone which is good and bad I guess. I enjoy the exploration part of the game. If exploration is your thing, I don't think the OP will be disappointed, I think you will enjoy it. Cheers
