Expansion?  Are people even allowed to openly buy Darkfall yet?  I haven't followed the game closely lately, but it sounds like a train wreck.

People are different.

/thread

Both.

Positive in that it's introduced mmos to a lot of new players.

Negative in that it's forever dumbed down the genre to the detriment of EVERYONE...old and news.

So overall I have to go with negative.

Sorry, but what crap community is this now?

Now?  The community has always been crap.

No.

I wish I had back the 3 years of my life I wasted on this game.  Though I'm long over the game (and the drama it creates).

AION FAILED.

Looks okay to me.  /shrug

This is about a year earlier than I expected.  My wife has really been excited about it.  Me?  Not especially, but I'll try it out.

I've got a bad feeling about this....

The columnist completely missed the point of why people are complaining.

WoW is a f'ing CASH COW for Blizzard.  The amount of money it makes for Blizzard/Activision is STAGGERING.  So what does Blizzard do?  The offer vanity pets for...$10.  TEN DOLLARS.

Let's just be honest here.  Can we just drop the ruse and rename the game World of Greedcraft?  This has nothing to do with the controversy of microtransaction, blah, blah, blah...it has everything to do with a VERY RICH game company crossing the greed line.

On Vilya it was a chore to find a group for epic content shortly after launch, unless you belonged to a large guild.  Lots of lotro players only log in 1-2 times a week and skipped most of the epic line.  I'm one of them and am glad I can at least now go through the storyline.

LOL!

"A fool and his money are soon parted."

Meh

Most of the people I used to play with were adults (18+...some in their 30s and 40s)...and >50% of them were extremely rude and selfish.  You don't have to be a kid to become obsessed with a game and let it rule your life and behavior.

WoW has not killed the mmo genre.  It's dumbed it down and made the genre more accessible to millions of players.

Some people would consider that the death of mmos, others don't.

Myself...I couldn't care less either way.

EVE is the only mmo I've ever tried that itimidated me and made my brain hurt from it's complexity and vastness.  Regrettably I never got in on the ground floor and each time I play the demos I like it but fear it's too late.

The new Dust 514 game coming up makes it look even more challenging.

Good god.  Another way to get players to mindlessly grind?  It's unbelievable to me how many WOW players don't know how badly their being manipulated out of their subscription $$ every month.  LOL!

Depends on the game, but I try to read the quests.  Hard to do in some games when you're grouped with people with ADHD.

In my WOW days I rarely read the quests because they were crap.  Quests in all the F2P games I've tried are about 100 times worse than WOW quests as far as immersion and actual grasp of the Engrish language.

LOTRO I read every quest.

My opinion of this site has drastically reduced because of this review and the author's prior positions of NC Soft and Aion. Giving Aion the highest rating mmorpg.com has ever handed out is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen on this website...and makes you guys look like, well, fools.

The game is fine. It doesn't suck. But it's also CLEARLY not the best MMO ever made.

Not that anyone cares, but maybe someone who owns/operates this site will realize that there's no way to objectively review a product that gives you money to advertise their product without introducing some sort of bias in to the results. It's IMPOSSIBLE.

I played Aion a bunch, couldn't be bothered to actually subscribe.  I'd never give this game an 8.7, but the reviewer is certainly entitled to his opinion.

If Aion had come out 5 years ago I'd give it an 8.7.  But there's nothing new here.  I'm looking for new, not polished same.  Thats why I'm not subscribing to Aion.

Even though I don't agree with the direction LotRO has taken, I agree that it's a very well done game.  I wish they weren't making it more WoW like (6 man instance grinds, gear grinds, rep grinds, craft grinds).  But, what can you do....?
