World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria: Five Great Things About Pandaria
News Discussion « General Discussion 3/19/12 12:06:35 PM
I can not speak for others, but I will speak for myself. When I think of pandas I imagine them fat, soft and somewhat clumsy. They are like teddy bears. The movie kung fu panda makes them into a comical figure also.
Now many people do not want to be fat, soft, clumsy and comical. Sure there are those that will revel in it. But I think there is a good number of people that gravitate toward darker themes, and the light hearted nature of the panda is contradictory.
Also, a lot of people now days are looking soft and fat. Maybe they don't want to look that way in a game as well.
They could have made a cool looking cat or rat people as well, something sleeker with a bad ass component thrown in. There would have been balance. I think WOW flubbed on the pandas. But...to each their own. |

World of Warcraft: Ghostcrawler Talks Mists of Pandaria
News Discussion « General Discussion 3/19/12 11:51:20 AM
I think there may be quite a few people that have no interest playing a panda. I play the humanoid races almost exclusively...humans, elves and sometimes dwarfs. The only exception was a rat person (ratonga) in EQ2. For some reason I was intrigued. |

I really hate to concede but..
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 3/17/12 10:22:48 AM
Well my light side points were frozen for couple weeks. I guess they forwarded my bug to the dev team. Couple days ago it seemed to be working again and I got some light side points. I was so happy. But now I seem to be bugged again. I completed athiss, which gives you 100 light side points when you complete the quest, only upon completing the quest nothing happened...no light side points.
I'll have to see if this extends beyond fps. Last time it was fp, heroics and quests...nothing gave light side points. It's very frustrating...I'm close to light side 5. I want my damned speeder, lol. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Update 1.2: The Miracle Patch?
News Discussion « General Discussion 3/14/12 12:10:04 PM
The whole premise of the game is light side versus dark side, and I can't advance light side do to a bug. Maybe if they fix it where I can get light side points again I will resub. The patch will come after my sub runs out toward the end of March though so i don't know. I'm still exploring planets and there are lots of quests to do even after i hit level 50. |

Light side points are broken
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 3/13/12 5:09:14 PM
Yeah, like the title says. My light side points have not gone up in at least two weeks, possibly longer. I was hoping it would self correct with maintenance or patch but it didn't.
One ticket closed, another locked and then deleted. Just got an email saying they are sending my ticket to the dev team. That's great I guess but why would a core mechanic break? A couple weeks worth of points gone and probably more than that although I admit I was playing casually. But points add up. I'm pretty sure I'd be light side 5 or close to it by now.
I can only think of one reason. The development team is a PUG.

Critical assessment of SW:TOR (not!) - unfair or deserved?

Even the Pro Tips guy cancelled his account!
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 3/13/12 8:25:52 AM
It's a fun game for awhile. I quit and resubbed and then quit again. Basically I'm just going month to month.
But last two weeks my light side points are bugged and no longer increase so it feels like I can't advance my character. Customer support said it's a known issue. Well then they should fix it.... |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Details Revealed about SWTOR Update 1.2 - Legacy
News Discussion « General Discussion 3/05/12 11:17:53 AM
Originally posted by crysent I agree with this statement. Just because they throw a bed in your spaceship doesn't make it a home. We've seen housing implemented in various mmo already, instanced and noninstanced, that allowed for customization, display of trophies, etc. Can anyone even go onto your spaceship? The last time I tried to take a friend he could not enter my ship. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Details Revealed about SWTOR Update 1.2 - Legacy
News Discussion « General Discussion 3/05/12 11:14:55 AM
Some nice features, some of them overdue, but I don't think it will be enough to stave off the population decline. For that they would need to introduce something game changing. |

Sounds intriguing. I'm down for giving it a shot once it is released. |

People's tastes change as they age. That's an important consideration to make.
People seem more distracted with their gadgets. It creates an ADHD mindset. |

Living, breathing world = delusional thinking.
This kind of thing happens all the time in big companies. The bullshit becomes more important than the product. Just keep the spin going and the fanatics will hold on tighter.
But what could they say, the dead lifeless worlds... |

What's The Next "Seamless Open World"?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/03/12 6:41:37 AM
The more load screens between zones you have the less open the world feels. There is also a subjective aspect to it when considering the topography of the world and limitations it places on the player in terms of movement and exploration.
Seamless to me refers to my experience as the player. Some people will say WOW is not seamless because there is loading in the background but this a technical aspect the player does not experience so for me it doesn't count. Where I get bothered is when a world is comprised of x amt of zones and there is a load screen between each zone, which in turn has instancing and sharding to further splinter the population.
To me a lot of developers make excuses. They act like many of the things we experienced in past mmos are not possible today, despite most people having faster connections and more powerful computers. Maybe it's there crappy game engines. |

Free speech isn't free. People spilled blood so you could have the illusion. If you are capable of speaking you can say whatever you want whenever you want but the consequences mean you will pay and thus it isn't really free because money is only one kind of currency in this world. Whew...run on....
Message boards are usually more entertaining than mmos. It's still massively multiplayer but just in a different way.
Sometimes when I am in a humorous mood I will pick one of the gold standard forum board topics 'why do men play female avatars' or 'why no boob slider' and read them aloud. Holy shit people take things seriously in the game world, lol. We are a very intense group. Even I have been guilty of typing up a page or two now and again. I like the read the posts with different accents: it's completely random. You have the genius accent, the drunk accent, the geek accent, etc. |

Why doesn't SWTOR have social hubs on the planets?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 2/29/12 3:18:25 PM
There's nothing really keeping some of the planets from being social hubs. They have the cantinas and there are usually vendors nearbye.
What would be good is if they added auction house vendors in the cantinas. Give us the ability to sit in chairs and add little minigames to them. Drinks and foods could give social buffs. For instance, a drink might give the ability to play a certain song with an instrument or perform a certain kind of dance. Just trying to come up with ideas to make it more fun.
I usually go to fleet to check the auction or buy something from one of the vendors. Sometimes I do the flashpoints. |

If you can't find a single sandbox MMORPG that you like, then you're not an MMORPG sandbox fan.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/28/12 11:52:50 AM
I've found a couple sandbox games I like, but SWG is gone now and APB was ruined by cheaters. Therefore this thread does not apply to me as I obviously love sandbox. I'm hoping AAA sandbox title comes out one of these days. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: The Curious Changes of Patch 1.1.5
News Discussion « General Discussion 2/28/12 11:40:37 AM
I agree with some of the previous comments. They need to focus on the fun factor and also implement the usual mmo features.
But yesterday I was on Alderan exploring and questing. I am level 50 and am going back to the different planets to fill out my map and do any quests that may interest me. But there were only 5 to 7 people on Alderan besides myself. Now i was soloing, so it shouldn't have mattered. But seeing such a low number was very discouraging. I meandered around, discovered a few new areas and logged out. |
