They both came out at the same time, they're both AAA, they both cost a mint, they both features VO stories...

I enjoy SWTOR more because my friends and I can do things together.
Skyrim is the better game but it's single player. Skyrim is my favorite single player game. |

No classes, sounds good. Maybe I will give it a try. |

We are all here voicing our opinions hence we are all opinionated. The fact we think anyone cares when we make these posts hints toward arrogance. As far as fickle, well....sandbox players are anything but fickle as they continue to languish in a genre where there is slim pickings...where themepark games with 100 million dollar plus budgets are compared to sandbox operations created out of someones garage and then point to those failures as somehow endemic of sandbox design.
I play whatever is good, be it themepark or sandbox. There's been quite a few themepark games released. I'm wondering when we will see a 300 million dollar sandbox game. Until then, yeah...people who prefer that style of gameplay are gonna be asking for it and feeling like square pegs trying to fit into circular holes when playing themepark. |

Wow, thanks for the link. I loved precu SWG and really miss it. Archeage looks like the game I've been waiting for. I can't wait to play it, but also afraid it will disappoint.
It looks really amazing so far though. I'm excited to try this game. |

I like the sound of this actually. It will help get some congestion out of the starter areas and I would definitely like to continue a character once I started it.
Not sure of what to expect with this game. From a big fluff bear point of view the animations are cool and I love the art style. The human women avatars are beautiful....been awhile since I played an mmo where I was happy with my appearance. |

I only had one person ask me to duel, and he was a guildie about 20 levels above me that wanted to show me how tough he was. Meh...if it makes him feel good about himself why not. I dueled him and lost but I wasn't expecting to win.
He must have liked it because he asked me to duel him several more times afterward. Maybe he just liked hitting on me. |

TOR claims 99.5% up time outside schedule maintenance. I call Shenanigans.

Typical day of SWTOR for me

The way you were going point by point I thought you were complaining because you were bored. I didn't realize till the end that you thought this was a positive experience, lol. To each there own.
I'm level 49 now. Once I hit 50 I'll probably be doing the same until my sub expires on the 18th. To me what you described seems rather tedious, but until another mmo launches I guess I might resub. Just downloaded the Rift free trial...another themeparke, but what the hell, gonna give it a go. |

I don't really see the game going down except for scheduled maintenance, so seems believable to me. Maybe there were times when it went down and I wasn't there, but since I wasn't there I can't say. There are a lot of maintenances though, but they are trying to get the wrinkles out so it's understandable. |

I've had it happen lots of times. You click an ability and nothing. Or there is a delay. I don't know why some people experience it and others do not. |

I love the art work. Looking forward to trying the game just for that reason alone. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: With Friends Like These

Guild features are BASIC. I can't believe they didn't include more guild stuff. I like the idea of a guild ship though, and some place we could decorate and hang out as a guild would be pretty cool. Might go a long way to making the game feel more social.
It really does make you wonder where all the development money went though. Other development houses have had much less to work with and produced much more. To my mind, this fact does not bode well for the future of SWTOR. Three conspicuous failures come to mind, APB, Vanguard Saga of Heroes, and Tabula Rasa. From what I recall they had lots of money but failed due to poor managerial leadership. I think that is what we see going on here. |

There are many facets to a game. PVP, PVE, Crafting, RP, Story/lore, Exploration/Adventure.
This game does well in Story/lore, but in every other area besides pve it lacks excellence and distinction from other games. What they need to do from here on is start filling in the conspicuously absent features in a steady and timely manner. So far they seem to be moving rather slowly compared to some mmo dev teams I have seen, but not all devs are created equally so...
Dedicated pvp crowd is probably not a majority type of mmo player but they are a strong, dedicated and fanatic player base. Games need that kind of enthusiasm.
RP crowd is also probably not a majority of mmo player, but again very dedicated and very passionate about the games they love.
Crafting also has it's very strong followers, and people who love to craft will invest a lot of time and energy into games.
Exploration/adventure is about making the world a compelling place. And surprisingly for an IP that you think would be amazing in this regard it isn't. The world designs are mediocre at best, lot of walls and corridors and you get stuck in cracks and holes or in some cases fall through the world. The worlds feel static and dead and erily silent. Nothing surprises, nothing takes your breath away. Big empty cities.
They need to start working faster and harder. Once I hit max I just don't see any compelling reason to continue.

IGN's Final Review of Kingdoms of Amalur : Reckoning (9.0/10)

I just played the demo the other day. After Skyrim this game is a huge step down. There's no way I'd give this a 9. Maybe 8, maybe 7. Movement was awkward and made me nauseas. The graphics looked awkward and I didn't feel immersed at all. I won't be getting this one. |

Renewed My Subscription Five Minutes Ago and Already Regret It
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 2/04/12 7:59:05 AM
I'm wondering if I'll renew. I cancelled and the sub is up on Feb 18th. Not sure what would get me to resub...maybe running around with my guildies, but I don't do that very much in swtor. Be nice if they added something, like appearance tab or chat bubbles....something to justify subbing again. Raid instances don't do it for me.

It's hard to believe that many people are playing when I hardly see another soul in game, except for the fleet station. And fleet stations are not looking as busy lately. |

I can't believe this game is so much like STO in design after STO was SUCH a great success. You have lots of instances, load screens, sharding of populations, companions, space and ground game, and central hub for the game is a space station. It's a total STO rip off!
Except STO doesn't attach stats to clothing so you can dress how you like...+1 STO has better character customization by a landslide...+1 STO lets you play alien races...+1 STO has a much, much deeper space game...+1
I can't believe in SWTOR to go from one planet to another you have to load from spaceport to hangar, then load hangar to shuttle, then load shuttle to air lock, then load air lock to space station, then load space station to your ship's hangar, then load into your ship, travel to your destination, and then do it all in reverse. HOLY MOTHER OF LOAD SCREENS BATMAN!!!! Are you fricken serious...what moron designed this.
DAMMIT, If I was 20 years younger and not making such a damn good living in my profession I would go back to college and become a programer/game designer, because apparently I'm a lot smarter and more creative than these clowns.

It's really kind of hard to tell if there is a mass exodus. Except for on the Republican Fleet Station I sometimes don't see anyone else. Sometimes I see two people run by and have to remind myself it's really one person and their companion.
The first time I recall seeing this sharding of the population was in Age of Conan, and I saw a lot more people running around. It's weird. This game is weird in it's loneliness. Thank goodness I'm in a guild and can bla bla bla in guild chat from time to time.
Lately I've been thinking about past mmos, how you would see people out in the world, or how you would see birds and butterflies and insects. Everything seemed more alive. Some of those games are free to play now. I'll probably give them a shot next or something else. I'm feeling the need for immersion lately. |
