I applaud to those who are sticking in there and making the best of it. I personally can't stand the simplified moves and the limited choice on profs. It's what made SWG special. For those who still believe in the current SWG, as long as you have fun. For the current swg players: /tiphat For the vets out there: /bow4 Such a shame, this once beautiful game.
I must admit that I have this problem too, but I suspect it could be one of my addons I use. I tried with IE and it loads fast. I have not tried/tested it with Firefox without having my trusted addons installed, kinda reluctant to do that not knowing what kind of adds my comp will be taking in. Like most firefox users I use No-Script and AdBlock Plus. I also have a few others like Better Privacy, Chatzilla(irc), Echofon(twitteraddon)and backup bookmark Febe & Cleo addon. Wish I had a second computer to test it out how this site will load without the addons installed. Although u will be taking away the strongest feature of Firefox that made Firefox what it is today. Questions like: Do you have an updated browser is for firefox users a redundant question since it updates automatically, same goes for all the addons(autoupdate). Hearing some of the people in this thread saying it loads fast, I would very much like to also hear what browser and addons they are using. I doubt it is a firewall issue since mine is on alerts, so no silent blocks. I must say it only freezes up in the beginning, once yur browsing through the website the pages load normally. It is however annoying that when coming to this site it takes 2-3 refreshes to view the site in firefox(ofcourse with addons).

I was REALLY excited to be able to try this game, I wanted to see the character development and mission maps. So I tried the demo. The demo advertises that you can play until lvl 15, which is pointless because when you level you just stockpile points because there's no where you can go to spend the points on new powers. You don't really get to interact with the regular community, so I still don't know about that. Basically I spent a few hours playing through the 4 or 5 missions they give you, and I still know NOTHING about the game. The most fun I had was creating my character.

Sorry Cryptic, but if you want me to go buy the box, you have got to show me more. Thanks for wasting my time.

You do know what a trial means right? It's doesn't mean you get full unrestricted access for 15 levels so you can be content with never wanting to go pass level 15 and play only on the trial server. It means you are suppose to get an idea of how the game is played and base on that idea, weigh the just of that in purchasing the whole unrestricted game......

I don't know any P2P trials that give you full access to everything.....do you?

This is an unlimited playtime Free Demo "demonstration?" a demonstration to represent the game, a teaser if you will. The fun part of downloading such a huge file and waiting for patch, only to find out that this demo does not have the selling point to excite and tease players to wanna know more about it. Most have come to this conclusion on CO forum, actual stories about friends wanted show them how fun CO is with the new demo, but they couldn't. The friend unknown to CO, would only find the costume part fun, but the rest is too generic, too common, seen that done that. A dime a dozen!

The Function of Demo? To excite people and to eventually draw more subs. Sadly enough this Demo does not have enough meat on it to do just that compared to other demo's. I would really love to hear from people that actually downloaded the file and patch and give a honest answer if the demo has a selling point in it. To simply say, it is a trial or it is completely free why are you complaining without even really experiencing the demo, is too easy and does not give a real and honest objective opinion about the demo.

Cryptic wants more subs, but this demo will just scare them away :)

Ofcourse there's always the fear of showing too much of the game, but if you visited the CO forums there are plenty of ideas and suggestions on how to contain all the demo players without sacreficing the whole game.

Yeah I didn't know about this game either.

Some words in the title of this thread is already very inviting: Levels 1-15, Free and Forever.
One way to get everyone to atleast give it a go, but imo in reality you will be greatly dissappointed and somewhat fooled.

Levels 1-15: The given missions and some extra ones like "lost cat" and "police car" will get you somewhere at level 6. Although it starts out as fun making your way to level 6. It only takes a short time to get to that level,  which makes it too short to get a feel for the game.

I suggest not to go through the whole city after you done the last thing in the starter area, you end up exploring an empty city with nothing to do or kill. Instead just go back into the headquarters and just choose to go back to the invasion.

Only then you'll able to grindfest your way from level 6 to 15. Yes the word "grind", people want to be entertained not feel like it is a grind. Sending out a wrong message here.

Free and Forever: Sounds nice, but the starter area is so short and you do not even have your travel power or dabble with other powers and stats. For me those would be the things that would pull me over the edge and buy the game and give it atleast a month a try to see if the content is enjoyable enough to make me wanna stay longer.

Conclusion: This is the wrong way to really get new subs or get people excited. The thanksgiving free playtime was a much better approach. You got further and you were able to dabble with a lot of things and once the days were over, you just craved for more.

In short:

This demo is too short to really get a feel what CO is all about. Although the words like lvl 15, free, unlimited playtime sound so sweet, someone failed to mention that it is only enjoyable to play from level 1-6 and the rest is grind.

To top it off:

They still haven't fixed the last part where you fight along side Defender. The NPC gets stuck behind a pilar and when going to the last panel, the npc also gets stuck in front of closed doors(were the doors suppose to open?). When you figured it out you'll have to walk around the room to get to the last panel, after that you do not know where to go and a minute goes by(which feels like is the game pausing? What am I waiting for?) suddenly a door is blinking with the npc spawning right in front of that door( I would assume he walk and fight with you, not suddenly appear at a door lol). Very sloppy, I mean first impression sets the tone.

I don't mind bugs here and there and later it will be fixed, but not in a demo and certainly not in a starter area.
I mean cmone, your standing there before big doors stepping into an instance on your own and not knowing what to expect.
You see the hero of the game, fighting alongside him, working your way to the end goal and you get these bugs?  :)

If this post was really true and not some attention seeker, then make a detailed memo explaining things. You always stand stronger when you have things in writing.

Is there already a trial for this game besides the buddy keys?

Sad this MMO has failed in the end, together with its instant mix jedi.(Stir and add water.)
Once..., once it was a good game and jedi was something mystic, something hard to obtain, something you would need more people to take down or a proffesional BH armed to the teeth.

The diversity and the amount of proffesion was its strength. Bored with 1 prof? Try another and another, mix and mash you own template. Housing, amazing, it felt like a home. Not just a big inventory on your screen, but an actual house with rooms and doors.

Now, it's just a remnant of a long, lost passion. The memories are good, we still hold you dear in our heart Tiggs what you have done for the SWG Community.
We will not forget.

SOE's SWG is a facade, empty inside, more machine then man.

But there are others...

Maybe the Phoenix will rise again from it's ashes in it's true state.
True believers and followers will join that cause, support, love and cherish it.
There is always hope...

So what game are you playing now? It always annoys me that people bitch and moan about the Jedi profession, when no other game offers an alpha class, yet they go and play those class, level, quest based grinds anyways. They bitch about SWG having classes and instant roll Jedi, but they leave SWG to go play other class based games. Hypocrisy.

Edit: I realize that you may not be one of those I am referring to. I am speaking generally.

My old old shooter Soldier of Fortune 2 :) I dunno the new shooters are all eyecandy. COD series are always good fun though and ofcourse SWGEmu Nova TC and that's about it.

I really hope SWGEmu comes through and there will be many variations of it. Just depends how the server owner likes to outfit his emulator.

  yes, yes indeed...

At one time many of us felt that the NGE was the final stroke, because (to paraphrase a famous line) "that game was our last hope."

But as the all wise Yoda quickly replied, "No...there is another..."

its just another KOTOR game, with some miniscule multiplayer options.

Way to completely guess.  Also the sad thing is even if it it KOTOR with a chatbox(which it wont) it will still be 5x better than the buggy unpolished SWG.

He could have the scoop, heck he might even be the developer in disguise :) To already have an opinion about a game that is not even out yet LOL :)

Who says we're talking about Kotor Online? That will probably be totally something different and a whole different feel to it. We're not talking about Kotor Online :)

Although I definately wouldn't mine next-gen graphics, for me personally gameplay and content is what really keeps me going. Get that down right and I will keep on subbing. I don't mind changes, but never go in a direction swg has gone. They really screwed themselves over (sry for the language).

To me the whole process, the path from newbie to captain must be an adventerous one. That keeps me on the edge of my seat and keeps me playing for longer then 4 hours. The Customization imo must be very extensive and fun, upgrades to your ships etc etc. Those are very important things to me. Although next-gen graphics should be of this day and age imo, it should not go in the way AoC has done.

But enough examples were given in this thread why gameplay and content goes above everything else.
I hope Cryptic feels the same way :)

Greetz!

Or is SOE lying?

That should be written in stone and put up in SOE's office :) When has SOE ever lied? hahaha!Sry that really made me laugh so hard haha :)

It's one big money machine, if they can't get it the normal way they will sqeeze it out of you. Heck if you missed a monthly payment they will lock/ban your account until you pay a year's of subscription and that's only for unban/unlocking it again without playtime.

I can understand they want 1 or 2 months extra out of you, but 1 year that's just insane.
Anything to sqeeze the money out of you.

It would have been nice that kotor mmo would use mass effect graphics (which is sublime), but I am sure not gonna pass on this by not trying it out :) I am too much of a SW fan to pass on this.

Everything is in motion, games will get polish along the way. It's a bit of a downer not having real people as your crew, but I really hope they will eventually put that in.
