Ok everyone, here's the plan.  Don't tell this guy that for his $10 box at best buy he can bring in the reciept and get that off the cost of the game when he picks it up!

Darn you, NC Soft! How dare you take that extra money from us!  I put down $49.99 for my preorder!

I don't think I would even count the Fallout MMO for Bethesda..  They supposedly contracted it to Masthead Studios.  So all of the Fallout MMOs success or failure will be on those crazy Bulgarians..

Ultima game?

LInk Realms?

Not entirely trying to start an argument.. But he presented the question in a terrible way...

There are games that require more player skill to be good at.  But I'll assume you mean a game that has a skill based "class" system.

I believe Darkfall is skill-based.. It's also hard to get into because they can only sell a limited amount of accounts until they get multiple stable servers.

I think everyone talks about Mortal Online like it's Darkfall except better/less disappointing.  Darkfall doesn't have the best performance right now, but the concept is good from what I can tell.  A lot like UO, but that's what we all say whenever a new "hardcore pvp" game comes out.

To all the naysayers that think this guy is trolling, you are incorrect...

I played AoC at launch and now on the same rig, and I could play on high both times.  Before the graphics were amazing, now mine look just like his screenshot.  I believe they did something to the trial client so that they could try to boost performance and make it seem like they really got the bugs out and made the game run smooth..  It looks absolutely terrible on my computer compared to when I played before and I upgraded to much better monitors since then...

That screenshot has no textures on and hence it looks bad. If you have the same problem, try getting the textures to come on.

By playing with the video setting in the game.

Graphics in AOC are some of the best in the industry that is a known fact. If you are not getting that then either your PC is outdated or your drivers are.

It's fascinating that you completely ignored the point of my reply.  I have the graphics on the highest settings.  My drivers are fine, they were fine the first time I played back in May-July.  I saw the textures then and I do not see them now.  Do you not understand that they have a trial client and a full client you can download?  The trial client could easily only allow you to have terrible graphics so this "awesome" trial they're letting us have for free makes us think they boosted performance.  Also, it's interesting that they are allowing me to play through Tortage.  Was there -ever- a problem with Tortage? No.  It was really fun.  It's when you go to the actual game that it becomes buggy and boring.

Ganking is only fair when the ganker is risking something himself..  He may be able to drop you in a second, but you should have a chance to find him and fight him one on one or ten on one to get revenge.  Most modern MMOs don't have a required set of time you must stay logged in after you've killed someone and also have no search player feature that allows for hunting someone down.

Back in the day, I played a UO type game where killing someone meant you were stuck in the game for the next 10 mins.  And there was a spell 'Find Person' that could tell you simple cardinal directions of where a person is, but with a "very far" "far" or no adjective which says roughly home many screens worth distance they are from you.  This allowed for the ganker to be put on an actual KoS list, you could hunt them down while they were alone or with friends.  Still, by killing someone in the form of ganking, you could easily get killed back at some point.

Goodness, they got me excited when I heard they finally had te trial available...  I played beta, early release, and a few of the first months.  I thought I was going to test the parts of the game they had screwed up before, but in actuality, this is just another chance to play through Tortage.

Tortage was a ton of fun.  I had more fun going to zones there to pvp a bit because it was a concentrated group of people my level.  After Tortage, the game loses its luster.  Pvp is either greatly unfair or there's no one nearby.  The rest of the game is the buggy part, and the enjoyable voiceover quests are few and far between.  I would not recommend paying 50 for the game or resubbing after this trial..

Interesting argument about AoC.

I'd have to say less marketing would have kept subs higher.  They flat out didn't include half the features that made me want to try the game in the first place.  There was enough there that I would have tried it out, and I totally enjoyed it.  I just felt empty inside because there wasn't mechanics that I was told there would be.

Marketing in general is not a bad thing.  They should have marketed the real product instead of the idea of a product.  If Darkfall is ready to start today, as Tasos said, then there is no reason they cannot do a small marketing plan.  No marketing will have the game try to survive off fanbase only, it needs just a bit more to get people interested in it.

a) Professional opinion - I'm sure other game developers dislike WoW.  Not just because it's popular, but because they have the numbers and their game is decent at best.  Casual gamers love how easy it is, while developers hate how casual gamers could love it.

b) Pseudo-professional opinion - All the press loves it.  They look just at numbers.  If there's a couple million people playing it because they've never played an MMO and this one is much easier than the other ones out there, they see it as a couple million votes for why this game is amazing.

c) A typical PC-gamer's opinion - A typical PC gamer, such as one from the games listed, would not really care about WoW.  There are other PC games that sell better because there's a much larger market for a game where you have a gun and shoot such and such enemy.

d) The 'Veteran' - Well, let's start out by not including ANYONE that has WoW as their first MMO.  They have been tainted.  Considering -real- veterans, they've seen there's mechanics out there that the casual gamer can't handle, so WoW obviously can't include them.  These mechanics are small pieces of every MMO that came before WoW.  They are the things that kept us attached to those games.  WoW ignores all unique mechanics and takes a generic approach to it all so that no one feels negative emotions while playing the game.  Who wants that?

So trolls decided server merges are bad?  I thought the gerenal troll opinion was Mythic is dumb because they've got populations spread out too much, so their big new thing (RvR) was pointless with so few people.

Concentrating players to several well populated servers to show how fun RvR is and then attract more players to fill new servers isn't exactly a bad idea...

And here is a little taste of reality...

Can't fall back on xfire.  Mostly just wow players bother with it.  So the numbers are skewed away from every other game.. The only way for other games to get any players/hours in on that is when the percent of the MMO population that uses xfire is also the percent of the xfire users that play WoW and something else, and that percentage has to be the percentage that plays WoW and WAR.

Your statistics don't have anymore backing than the scenario I have set up.  Who's to say which is true? You fail.

And to be completely honest, what's it matter if the MMO player has been playing for so many years?  The longer we've played, the more perspective we've got.  I've got a viewpoint that I don't need all my games to have WoW UI and I don't need to farm raids for gear.  I can see the quality, or lack there of, in any game.  Don't look to forums for an opinion, make one for yourself.  Play the game and try it out.  Most of them have trials.. or are free to begin with..

Did you just say you don't like the opinions of anyone on this forum and then follow it up by asking for their opinion on a better forum?

This is the best forum ever! You can't find one that does MMOs better than this!  It's unique and somehow better than the rest!

This is the worst forum ever, it's too generic, it's not what I expected.  Whenever I'm looking for something I crash to desktop or get lag cause I'm running a PC from the mid 90's.

This forum isn't that great, you should probably go to w ww.bettermmoforums.com. They're so much better than this, you should try it.  You'll never leave it.

So yeah, instead of whining, you could just look around..  There's dozens of MMO sites and they've got forums too.  You'll find about the same crowd at all of them though.  If you're looking for nothing but positive feedback, try finding a fansite for the game you want to hear good stuff about.  If it's run by fans, they can keep the haters out by banning them or deleting posts/threads.

Destruction complaining Order is overpowered?

I played a BW in beta (which isn't a full perspective of the game, I know, but it's a glimpse).  Destro has tanks like crazy.  I could kill a tank solo maybe, but even if I've got a healer or two, I can't take an equal number of tanks..

Now I consider myself a mature gamer who is fair when reviewing a game and I certainly don't bash for no reason.  However seeing a user rating of 8.87 for WAR it really makes me mad as its so unrealistic and either we have a bunch of gamers who have only played one MMO aka WOW or they are desperately trying to attract more people by blatantly lying about the quality of the game.  RATINGS AS FOLLOWS:

USER RATING                   MY RATING

GRAPHICS   - 8.7                               My Rating - 7

Considering the game has graphics that is not up to date, not bad but certainly not 8.7!  Initially it was the key let down for me.

FUN  - 9.4                                My Rating - 7

Ok who am I to say if people think the game is fun or but 9.4 Are you freaking kidding me?  Is this seriously the most fun in an MMO that you have ever had?  GET OUT MORE!

SOUND - 8.8                            My Rating - 4

8.8 for sound?  Ok now this rating has donkey crap all over it.  The sound in WAR is borderline pathetic compared to most MMO's out there.  AoC has movie quality ambience, EVE even Tabula Rasa crap all over WAR.  All I seem to hear are dull drums going off and an odd screech.  8.8 rating? I must be playing a different game.

COMMUNITY - 8.6                    My Rating - 4

Community may differ on each server but this game has the worst community I have ever come across.  Is it the players fault? No. Its the set up of the game.  There is no default global chat and unless you are in a guild there is no way of knowing what the hell is going on.  Met some nice people but the game does not have an overall community feel.

ROLE PLAYING - 8.5                My Rating - 2

Now this is funny.  Role Playing 8.5?  Based on a 1000 votes as well.  Come one people are you seriously giving this game 8.5 for RP?

PERFORMANCE / LAG - 8.8    My Rating - 7

I give this game 7 which is pretty good for a new release but once again 8.8 is so overinflated its funny.  What about the lag? The 60 second lock ups? The graphic glitches? The reboots?

VALUE - 9.2                            My Rating 7

If WAR was free then I would give it 9.2 but unless you have mummy and dadddy paying for the sub then there is no way in hell this game gets 9.2 Value rating.  If this was true I would cancel my 2 EVE subs and my AoC sub because I am yet to see a game get close to 9!

SERVICE - 8.8                         My Rating - 6

I have not needed to contact service in-game yet but I give it a 6 purely for the pain of registering and trying to work out how to log in.  No instructions and for the first time I even had to call a mate to find out why it wasn't working.  He had spent 2 hours working it out as well.

Is this a WAR bash thread?  Not really but the concept of WAR having 8.87 rating is laughable and anyone that voted stupidly should be tied at a stake and have tomatoes thrown at them.

For the record I played table top Warhammer for almost 15 years so if there ever was a fan I should have been it.  Unfortunately they have gone to the mass market and dumbed down the game...IMO

I'm not sure what game you're playing... Oh wait.. AoC. I get why you're complaining about this.

The game beats out the other "cartoony" game in graphics.  It uses polygons for detail instead of painted on images to flat surface (cough cough wow cough).

It's far more fun than most games out there.  The last game I enjoyed was AoC until I got to the end game. They did pvp perfect, except no death penalty :'(.  WoW's pvp feels one sided.  In low lvl bgs you can get killed almost instantly by all the twinks; in high lvl arena whoever has the best armor (has played longer) will be far superior to anyone else.  I could easily overtake someone higher than me in WAR as long as I'm better at the game than them.

Sound? Really? Doesn't matter.. I don't listen to any game's sound really.  I usually have vent or music playing in the background so I turn in game sound off. But hey, some people like it and this game might not have the best.

It does community well where it's needed.  There may not be communication, but there's a connection usually.  PQs consist of many people coming together for a common goal.  Many many random people.  I only saw that in wow for PUG instances and I wouldn't say a PUG is people connecting.  It was usually me getting aggrevated.  I get the same kind of grouping in RvR and scenarios.  Random tanks/dps/healers get into small groups and fight together as a unit instead of alone.  Global chat doesn't mean community.  I turn it off in WoW because most of them are filled with chuck norris or anal -spell- jokes.

I dunno where the roleplaying score came from, I didn't see many people doing it.  Haven't seen anyone do it on anygame though, and I play RPPVP on WoW.

I got perfect performance on my laptop and desktop.  Dunno what you're complaining about.  If you play AoC on a regular basis, you shouldn't have problems either.  Check your drivers..

Ah, value... 50 bucks then 15 a month for this?  How does it compare to others?  The cheapest out there is probably WoW.. 20 bucks for the original disk and then 15 after that.. Not bad.  As long as I'm paying something, I don't care much if it's an extra 30.  I'm saving money as it is compared to buying a new console game every 2 weeks to a month.  I think it's worth what I pay.  I haven't seen any problems with it yet.

I don't really get what you're talking about with making your account.  If the average 3rd graders could make an account in 10-15 minutes, you may want to get yourself checked out.  It's a pretty simple process.  Step by step instructions?  Really? Have you used the internet before?  Have you signed up for AoC and 2 EVE accounts? It's all the same.  You should be able to figure it out.

I think all we have here is another sad AoC sub that's whining cause WAR isn't failing completely yet.

To be completely honest, AoC and Guild Wars combat/controls are far different from WAR.. WAR is very close to WoW... They just slowed it down with the cooldowns.. I've never played a game for the PvE content. I can get that in a single player game. I play for PvP and this game is the best yet in that department..

OMG one more game down the whole... what a shame.

By this i mean there is no point in full loot. because you can make and find all this bad ass gear you want but whats the point when ... if someone sees it on  you everyone around will gank you for the fuck of it just because there an ass and can take your shit . yea thats fun let me tell ya. It makes crafting point less it makes items pointless all because  you can loose them... let me rephrase that because you WILL lose them. stupidest idea ever

I'm sorry, but no death penaltyis for new-age MMO gamers (aka what we call casual gamers).  WoW is the game that started carebear deaths.  All games had death penalties before.  You can work hard to craft that stuff.  If it matters so much, I suggest you get good enough at the game to defend yourself, otherwise you shouldn't be wearing that epic of gear.  Worried about gankers?  Hunt with friends, so you can protect each other while progressing.  This forces players to -want- to play together instead of for themselves.  What? Community?  Yeah, it's probably new to you because you're from WoW....

Well, you don't like to get max level quickly, many of us do. The longer it takes to get to the max level (usually when the fun only begins), the more of a grind it becomes. Of course there are a lot of people who like to work hard for their levels, but there are plenty of games like that. (L2 takes forever, lotro is very level oriented and takes a while IMHO). But there aren't that many games where leveling goes fast, in fact, I only know of Guild Wars....

Games can't be perfect for everyone, but getting to the max level quickly is a welcome change for many of us.

I don't know if you read anything we said when you posted, or if you're up to date with anything that's going on in new MMOs, but I think endgame isn't where the fun is at recently.  Endgame comes after the company has perfected the rest of the game.  Tabula Rasa, Age of Conan, and now probably WAR.  People like you rush to the end thinking you'll get WoW's 7+ years of endgame perfection and find that there's almost nothing.  And of course most people condemn the game if it doesn't have endgame after the first week of release and then head straight to the forums to flame about how the game sucks.  You're the reason new MMOs are failing, and because of all the failing MMOs, the market is losing investors which means there won't be many new ones after a while.

I agree completely.  Everyone should relax a bit and enjoy the game.  I did not buy it (probably won't do a release game for a while because of AoC), but playing in beta was the most fun I've had in an MMO in years.  There were so many people that actually played healers and the whole pvp combat feels slowed down slightly so there's no 3 hotkey button smashing that will own you in an instant, instead you have to think and use the right combination of attacks.  And that's just what I experienced doing scenarios.  Omg, the RvR was amazing.  It wasn't one side owns the other at all times, each side would have small skilled groups that would capture bases, and there were always "hotgates" with walls of order smashing up against walls of destruction.  RvR provides so much fun that it seems like a waste if you rush to lvl 40 right from the beginning.  When I get the game (probably around the time my winter break starts cause I'm too busy with classes atm), I'm actually going to slow down and read the quest, enjoy the lore, and take time to help players with quests and such.  I've been caught up in the power leveling craze like many others, but it's time we all realize what really matters.
