General: Four Immediate Thoughts on Cryptic’s Neverwinter
News Discussion « General Discussion 8/24/10 6:22:10 PM
You should check your facts before you speak trash like that. The whole reason Hasbro is suing Atari is because they DO NOT have any rights to D&D anymore. They are allowed to do nothing but offer support, which is the only reason Cryptic can do it, Atari will be in a support only function. Nor does Atari own Cryptic yet at least. Not that much would change if they did, both companies suck it hard anymore. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Five Reasons to be Wary of The Old Republic
News Discussion « General Discussion 7/15/10 5:49:09 PM
Honestly all this whining about companions should already be considered a done deal. The idea is most likely based not only on their own games, but also on the fact you have companions, aka heroes, in Guild Wars. They even pretty much function the same way and yet no one has ever bitched about them being in Guild Wars. Why not go tell Arena Net that they should remove them as well, since they obviously dont work in an MMO. I personally have no objections to companions and in fact welcome them. If I want to play with a friend or two and no one else is online that we want to group with, we dont have to pug it out, we can toss in a couple of companions and still enjoy the game. And another point that someone mentioned..about the so-called outdated graphics..that was the secret to WoW's success...lower graphics that didnt require high end computers for people to play it, thus made parents more willing to buy it for their kids cause it didnt need an expensive computer and opened the game to a huge market of players with lower end machines. Not everyone can spend a couple thousand on a top line computer or wants to upgrade parts every other year. Keeping it simple = bigger base = more profit. But that isnt to say that I wont hope they put out a higher resolution texture pack as well. |

Someone please make a Forgotten Realms or Dragonlance MMO
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/27/10 4:44:09 PM
First off, Atari only has limited licensing to the D&D name and maybe none at all now that Hasbro is suing them. And regardless of what you might think, Turbine right now has one of the best reps of any MMO company, and if they even thought of letting Cryptic do a D&D game it would flop, they are just not a good development company. But the main reason there is no and will be no Forgotten Realms or Dragonlance MMO is that they have never been core worlds, and the official setting for 3.5 which is what DDO is based on is Eberron, the official setting used to be Greyhawk. While I would love to see any of those made, any new D&D game will have to be based on 4.0 rules, which are to D&D as WOW was to MMOs....dumbed down and easy to play, and yes fanbois start your ranting, but regardless what you might want to think, that statement is correct. But then, that is also why it is a success, so its not a bad thing. But a Forgotten Realms MMO would be great, it has a very full and well developed world, but then again that also hinders the ability to create a good MMO in that world, everyone knows it and will expect things, and by just creating the game, it puts it into canon in a way and further limits creation. So Eberron, while kind of a wierd world, is a good core to use as a D&D game, cause there is nothing really established and Turbine, had free rein to make the world as they saw fit mostly. |

Compared to most games though, $4.99 is cheap and the games is geared towards kids more than anyone, so still if you don't like the game, dont play or pay. And I would say the Free part os more in how you can swap jobs anytime you wish and such not free as you can play and do everything and never pay.

I really enjoyed Tabula Rasa as well, both as a Spy and a Medic. Main reason it failed in my opinion was that the devs spent too much time focusing on the whole pvp thing and less fixing issues and adding more end content. The way the game was setup adding new content would have been easy with the wormholes and shuttles...was like a guaranteed no end to areas to add. Wish NCsoft would get off their asses and just release the server codes for Tabula Rasa and Auto Assault, they were both pretty unique games that were fun and would be nice to use the game boxes for more than bookends. |

The version you are beta testing isnt even the version that will be released. But if you dont like it..then dont buy it and play. Everyone is too damn concerned with ripping anything new apart and tearing though levels to the end game... bottom line..you dont think there is enough to play then dont buy it and dont play it...rather stupid to come in here and whine about it..it is your choice after all. |

Anarchy Online: New Engine Screenshots
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/20/09 11:58:36 PM
AO was a good time, was differently different than anything out then and now...however, they have been saying they are revamping the graphics engine for years now, and if or when they actually get it done, I might return to Rubi-Ka myself again. |

Why are Bioware keeping how the game is designed a secret?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 6/09/09 5:27:45 AM
They havent been secret about that..the game IS story driven in that EACH players class has a complete storyline that has more choices adn content than all the choices in previous KOTOR games combined. That wasnt a secret...it was in teh dev dairy video. And the storyline advances like any other...by completing quests, you can group with friends and help with each others story lines. And yes I believe they said something to the effect that your choices will have an impact on your alignment and you can go from good to bad as well has having your npc companions turn on you and attack. Try going to their website and watch the trailer videos..pretty much everything you asked about they answered on them..its called research. Plus they show some images from in the game that look pretty damn good already |

Not really...about all I got left to say try is those 8.56 drivers and make sure even though you have DirectX 10 on Vista that you download and install the DirectX 9.0c from March...you can have and run both on the same comp since they use different DLLs. |
|
|
Another thing you may try is turning off hardware occulsion in the options. Also someone else is having the same exact issue in the forums as use, even teh screenshot looks almost identical. It was suggested in addition to all weve mentioned to "Try typing into the chat window /setfog 700000, 819200 and see what happens with your image." Also, the player said VG worked fine with the Catalyst driver 8.56, so might try looking for a copy of it instead. |
|
|
well i would try deleting the cache folder and letting it reinstall them...might take a bit when you first start it back up, but could solve it. Also, you may wish to check your catalyst drivers...they are notoriously bad at times and instead of running the most current you may need to revert to a previous version, for Vista 32bit they recommend the 9.3 drivers..so running the new 9.5 might be part of the issue. If you cant find the 9.3 one on the ati site can check at www.guru3d.com Also, might need to install DirectX 9.0c from March if you havent cause Vanguard doesnt really support DirectX 10..if you need to, do it before doing the video drivers |

One other little thing you could try while in the game is type /flush all that will clear the texture cache and could possibly get it to redraw them. Might try looking at this too, it might be a little outdated, but help tweak it some...formatting didnt carry over however: VGCLIENT.INI FILE LOCATION: In trying to make it easier for people to tweak their .ini file, I have placed mine below colored coded to make that task easier. Please keep in mind that these settings will in fact give you more performance along with teh game settings I have included in teh following vgclient.ini file. Please change according to your preferences. Please allow me some time to write out details of teh below changes. I will also provide some tips in teh near future that will help gain more performance out of your computer to help teh game run smoother. If you wish not to copy and paste my .ini file, please note teh legend below will guide you through making teh changes manually yourself. Legend: * Red: Items you NEED to change according to your mod, monitor settings, and system settings
[Version] [FirstRun] [Engine.Player] [Engine.Engine] [General] [UI] [WinDrv.WindowsClient] [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice] [Engine.NullRenderDevice] [ALAudio.ALAudioSubsystem] [ExceptionHandling] [WindowPositions] \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ MaxPixelShaderVersion=300 teh above should only be set to teh settings I have shown above if your video card supports 3.0 shaders. If your video card does not support 3.0, please change teh lines to teh following: MaxPixelShaderVersion=255 |

Lucas would not be under contract to SOE it would be the other way around since SOE has to pay Lucasarts for the license to use the Star Wars name, and if Lucas decided they wanted SWG closed it would have to be, cause the name and universe of the name if copyright owned by Lucas, and only leased to SOE. As for BioWare not being a publisher that is true, they are a development house, one of the best in the business, however they are owned by one of the largest publishers in the business, EA. And as such SOE doesnt need to maek room for a game they will never touch. |

The North American and European RF Online servers were taken down when Codemasters was unable to extend the license from CCR Corp. RF Online only runs in Korea now. Posted on website: The RF Online European and North American game service operated by Codemasters is now closed. A copy of the closing down statement can be read below: 1st October, 2008 It is with much sadness that today we announce our intention to close the European and North American RF Online game servers operated by Codemasters. Our licence for RF Online is due to expire shortly and unfortunately, despite several weeks of negotiations with CCR, the Korean developers of the title, we have not been able to reach an agreement to renew the contract. This means that Codemasters will no longer have the right to operate the service in the Western territories it currently provides service in and therefore we are obliged to shut down all associated game services before the licence expires. The last full day of service will be 9th November, 2008. All RF Online world servers will shut down on the morning of Monday 10th November UK time. The purchase of credits is now no longer available to ensure all players have the opportunity to spend their remaining Novus credits in game. Likewise, the creation of new RF Online game accounts/subscriptions is now disabled. For further information, please see our RF Online Closing Down FAQ in the forums. RF Online was Codemasters Online's first MMO service and we have been very proud of its development and success during its three years of existence. It was also one of the first Eastern-style MMORPGs to ever make it to Western market and do well and it's with much fondness that we look back and remember these achievements. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who declared their allegiance and gave us their support with RF Online over the past few years and especially, to thank all the players who spent countless hours with us in Novus.

General: Top Ten Games That Should Be MMOs
News Discussion « General Discussion 5/01/09 1:39:08 AM
Hate to burst your bubble at your list but there has already been a Neverwinter Nights MMO. Backed by AOL and published by SSI back in 1993. It was one of the first true MMOs out there, even if it was dialup. It had avatars you could interact with and quests. Gameplay was, at the time, very advanced and there was several hundred players in the game pretty much all the time. So unless BioWare would be able to acquire the rights to produce another Neverwinter Nights MMO from AOL (since BioWare still holds the Neverwinter Nights licenses for single player versions) and given their ability to produce quality games and their new found jump into the MMO arena with SW:TOR, that would probably be the only way such a game could come to light. However, I would also love to see a Mass Effect MMO, given the way the single player game is setup, it wouldnt seem to be that difficult to make a MMO that plays in the same fashion, and it would have virtually unlimited expansion ability, cause they could just add new worlds to create more quests and areas to explore, something that they should have focused on doing in the now dead Tabula Rasa. There are plenty of fantasy based MMOs out there so a good sci-fi one in addition to SW:TOR would go a long way. |

Wow you know everytime you make a post, you are killing 30,000 brain cells of people who actually have to listen to your worthless drivel, not to mention wasting precious seconds reading nonsense that we can never get back. Maybe we should sue you for stupidly wasting our time. Oh and caps only get you ignored for being a drug addled moron. So lay off the mountain dew, hot pockets, and internet porn. |

Actually 35-40 fps in Vanguard is pretty damn good, That what I run at with max settings and I experience no issues. Vanguard itself is one of the most hardware and graphics intensive games around, so really on high or better settings, if you are getting 35fps you got a good system. And for the most part, just ignore the general chat when you get all the little kids boasting 60fps and such, half of them cant even describe their systems in real terms and a number of them straight up lie LOL. As long as the game is playing smoothly for you I wouldnt worry about anything else. |

Have to agree Vanguard needs to sad burial.
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 2/11/09 12:23:42 AM
Funny how he said they spend all their time in eq,eq2 and swg, when the devs in Vanguard have been fixing things and creating new content all of which they have been adding lately. And since they added the trial there has actually been a raise in population. This is a totally different game than when it launched. Normally I just roll my eyes at the ignorant posts about it, but they seem to be gathering in number recently, must be a full moon or something or maybe they are all just fanbois of darkfall or somethign else, trying to divert attention from that games failings and mishandling. But I totally agree, if you dont like the game, well guess what..no one is forcing you to play it and most troll posts like that just end up making you sound like some pathetic emo whiner searchign for attention. And so I agree with the poster above, go to the WoW forums, its alive and full of the same types. I for one really like Vanguard and I am glad to see them working so hard to improve it constantly. Now I can play the game on max settings with no lag or hitching, where even in beta you almost had to stay on lowest settings to move around, so saying they havent done any work on it is ill-informed. |
